Person of Interest - Season 5 - Synopsis

PERSON OF INTEREST is a crime thriller about an ex-CIA agent and a mysterious high-tech billionaire who prevent violent crimes with the help of an all-seeing artificial intelligence, known to them as "The Machine." John Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) have saved countless lives thanks to the omniscience of their supercomputer and their crack team of brave misfits -- NYPD detective Lionel Fusco (Kevin Chapman), the unpredictable cyber-hacker Root (Amy Acker) and missing-in-action operative Sameen Shaw (Sarah Shahi) -- but a new threat puts their mission in jeopardy and their lives in even more danger. For years, they've been protected by The Machine, but as worlds collided and a rival AI known as Samaritan finally cornered The Machine inside the nation's power grid, it was the POI team's turn to protect Finch's creation. In season five, the cold war is over. The world around us might look the same, but something has drastically changed. Samaritan's lethal "correction" has initiated its control. Finch's Machine is essentially dead. Shaw is still missing. And the team is once again hiding in plain sight. But with Samaritan's invisible grip tightening everywhere, will Finch be able to rebuild and resurrect The Machine? And if he does, will it be the same Machine when it comes back online?

  1. So, I'm thinking from the final two lines that the season WILL revolve around Finch rebuilding The Machine? Awesome. Can't wait for this.

  2. So, looks like S5 will be the dawn of a new world in the POI-verse with Samaritan in total control. And Finch will try to rebuild the Machine. And Shaw will still be missing. And Control will in a black hole somewhere, hopefully sharing a cell with Shaw. And I wonder what Root will be up to and I wonder too if John tells Iris the truth (that he promised he would tell in the S4 finale). Fusco will be fine.

How much time will it take for Finch to rebuild the Machine? If he is successful, will the Machine be able to defeat Samaritan? So much story left to be told and we only get 13 episodes.

I end my post with my customary finger to CBS. F*CK YOU CBS!!!

  3. Sounds tremendously awesome. If it is the last, heck of a story to go out with...

  4. Hopefully this will lead to a season six.

  6. Okay but I want Shaw back.

  7. Oh please, oh please let this get a decent ending. I want the full 7 seasons. I'd be happy with six, but if they need to wrap up story lines, not leave us hanging. Either have CBS announce that it's the last season and give them time to shop POI around, or have CBS announce that it's the last season and have them wrap the story in a satisfactory manner, or have CBS agree to take it for one final season. This waffling by CBS "we aren't saying it's the last season yet" has me so very nervous.

Cool! Sounds like a rather strong and straight forward finish, if this in fact the end!

  12. I fucking love it can't wait till it comes on

  13. Straightforward? On POI? Never gonna happen.

  14. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Dear lord I am not ready!

  15. This sounds so epic. I haven't really fully incorporated the idea that this show has/ will be cancelled this year. So annoying

  16. I hate it too. They did the same with The Mentalist.

  17. With 13 episodes, assuming this is it, I think that is exactly what we will see. There is little room to introduce something completely new, only a way to survive/explore 'the new world' and attempt to take it back. We got rid of the mob story, so now it's finishing fleshing out the remaining back stories of these characters (Finch, Reese, Root, Shaw, Fusco, Greer, Control) and see if they can use any former/new POI's or government officials to their advantage, while also working to save Shaw, and officially proving to us who these characters are going to be and if they get happy endings or not...

The only twists that I think they could make time for are:
-Samaritan turning on Greer and Greer teaming up with Team Machine
-Samaritan eliminating Greer and opening viewers up to Decima
-Using past POI's to rebuild/protect the new machine--showing us that the lives they saved, were not just for their the sake of immediate justice, but the sake of the future and the rebirth of the Machine. (Pro humanism = typical Bad Robot trade mark)
    - New organization anti-Decima/Samaritan comes to add Finch straight away in the season, but at what cost?

I could be wrong, but I just don't think we're going to be able to go to far beyond the outline they presented in this synopsis. And I don't think they will have time for random SOTW....

  18. There is quite a bit they could fit into the season, and knowing the writers, they will. The outline of the season won't be too much different, but it's what actually happens for those arcs (e.g. The Machine, once rebuilt, could be the "new threat") that won't be straightforward.

  19. Can't wait

  20. I really don't think it's THAT much story to tell... If this is the final season, then 13 episodes feels like a good amount to tell that story. All killer, no filler, and it'll be a good season. All we need is Sarah Shahi's willingness to return sooner than originally anticipated.

  21. That's it, I want you writing this show now.

  22. "and I wonder too if John tells Iris the truth (that he promised he would tell in the S4 finale)."

That is something that I'm most curious about. I mean he said that he would tell her anything. But does she really want to know "everything". Is it the smartest move to tell the complete story? Wouldn't she be more scared than anything else?

  23. With that much Shaw in one press release she has to be back!!

Sounds good to me. As long as they end it properly.

  25. Yeah, and totally to the last line. Especially after the 15 episode BULLSh*t that was pulled on us.

  26. I just mean that I don't think there will be too many surprises or as many plots stuck in air all at once, as we have sometimes seen them play with. I'm not saying they can't make what they have rewarding, I'm just saying that I don't think they are going to overly expand on anything (Like introduce new mob, a third different machine, or even go a little more sci-fi with something like cybernetic human being--although I have always hoped for it), so that it is more of straight shot for these characters to fight a new cold war to save humanity, rather than introduce too many new things, while also doing this.

The idea about rebuilding the machine and if it will be the same and if that is for better or for worse seems comes at the very end of the synopsis. So it seems that is the end game, as oppose to middle, unless we learn rather quickly (and the creative film two different endings) that this isn't the final season.

  27. LOL. Na, you wouldn't! But thanks anyways! That was kind! :)

  28. Hopefully the negotiations with Amazon goes well and they decide to pick it up for a full season.. (at least).

  29. I don't understand all of the synopsis as I'm still on Season 1, but I can't wait to continue. I really have no idea how this show stayed off my radar for so long!

  30. We're back to 13 episodes now. I hate CBS.

    ReplyDelete
  31. My heart is broken thanks to the fatal 13 and now they pump me up by releasing this synopsis while we have to wait till 2016? Whyyyyyy....? And when I think of that season 5 might be the last one, I want to curl up in a ball and cry - but instead I'll keep on daily cursing the fudging CBS and wish upon them a major rating loss in their procedural shows!!

  32. Still hoping Elias found a way to survive the correction but with only 13-15 episodes I'm not optimistic. Hoping for a season 6 but feeling pessimistic about that too.

But whatever they get to show I am confident will be kick a.........

  33. Sounds like a final season...
