Rebecca Mader and Sean Maguire have both been promoted to series regulars for the upcoming fifth season of Once Upon a Time, EW has learned.
Lost alum Mader first appeared as Regina’s (Lana Parrilla) half-sister Zelena, also known as the green-toned Wicked Witch of the West, in season 3. British actor Maguire also joined the series in season 3 to replace Tom Ellis, who briefly appeared as Robin Hood in the second season.

ReplyDeleteHell they promoted someone completely unrelated to the shows mythology and cast to regular last year just because he starred on the spin-off. Nothing surprises me anymore.
ReplyDeleteOUAT has the most rotating regular cast anyway: Raphael Sbarge, Meghan Ory, Michael Raymond James, Eion Bailey, Jamie Dornan and Giancarlo Esposito were all regulars in the last 5 years and didn't make it to now

And Bex is just amazing. I just fear about the "baby storyline" and I hope Robin will be a "regular" like Will then :p

ReplyDeleteFinallyyyy for Sean Maguire! About time! I like him and Robin Hood so I am glad for this. As for Rebecca I don't know whether to be ecstatic or afraid. The Oz storyline is one of my favorites ever from the show and I adore her character but I am not convinced about what she can bring to the table long term. They will inevitably have to redeem her or something for her to stick around and not really sure I want to watch that. But in any case it will be good for a while and I am happy for Rebecca.

ReplyDeleteOmg I loathe the shipping too! :D So hard to meet a fellow non-shipper. Shippers ruin the show, especially when it panders to Swan Queeners. Will was an absolute waste and I am holding on to hope that they will rectify that mistake, not by sweeping him under the rug like they did Greg and Tamara, but by actually explaining his presence and giving him purpose. But it's probably too much to ask out of a show that doesn't even incorporate Aurora when it finally gives Maleficent a story.
ReplyDeleteThey had Maleficent warn Snow and Charming about the Dark Curse when it was at least implied to us in the pilot that they first heard about it from Rumplestiltskin. Then they explained it away by having Snowing swear in the flashbacks they'd never speak of it again. Also rather weird how they'd been keeping the secret of getting rid of Mal's baby forever, even though it wasn't at all foreshadowed before S4B. That's why it was sloppy.

Another plot hole is when Maleficent asks Regina in 1x02 who gave her the curse. She should have known that it was Rumple, because she was there when he took it.

Looks like now next season is going to be pretty entertaining between Emma becoming the dark one, finding Merlin and Zelena becoming one of the main villains of the show, and not to mention Maleficent and Lily spicing it up. Bring on next season! Can't wait!

ReplyDeleteEh, I'm not happy. I was sure that Robin Hood will be a regular, but the truth is that I don't like him at all, and the actor isn't that good either. I want Regina to be happy, but I lost all my interest in Robin. Rebecca Mader is an awesome actress and Zelena is a great villian, but I'm already sick of her pregnancy storyline, and I guess she stays mostly for that. And we already have enough main characters. I mean we have Will Scarlet and I love him but we still don't know why he's there and he didn't have anything to do last season. Even his only flashback was a Robin-centred one. And for example Belle never gets enough to do either. So many characters faded last year because of the lack of storyline. They shouldn't repeat the same mistakes.

ReplyDeleteI do agree that the shipping gets over the top, though I have my favorites, but it is hard not to have couples on a show about True Love and fairy tales. Love in one form or a other is a huge theme of this show. There are many shows in tv right now that shipping has ruined and I have stopped watching them, but not this show for me! And I agree about Will! Cannot figure that one out.

ReplyDeleteI wish they'd give use some kind of resolution to his character. I really want to know what happened with Anastasia. They teased us with him passing out next to the book with her picture in the library, then nothing ever came of it.
