USA NETWORK’S AWARD-WINNING AND CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED ORIGINAL DRAMA “MR. ROBOT” SCORES SECOND SEASON AHEAD OF SERIES PREMIERE
One of The Summer’s Most Talked-About New Series Hails From Universal Cable Productions
Nearly 3MM Viewers have checked Out The Pilot In Its Pre-linear Debut
NEW YORK – June 24, 2015 – USA Network today announced a second season pickup of the captivating one-hour original drama series MR. ROBOT, ahead of the series premiere tonight at 10/9c. This buzzy breakout series has already received significant critical acclaim, prestigious industry honors and has garnered nearly 3 million views in its unprecedented pre-linear launch across a wide array of digital platforms. The second season, which will include a minimum of 10 episodes, will air in 2016.
“We knew from the moment we read Sam Esmail’s provocative script, and witnessed the brilliant performances of Rami Malek and Christian Slater, that Mr. Robot is a stand-out series that is unlike anything currently on television,” said USA Network President Chris McCumber. “The overwhelmingly positive fan reactions to the pilot and the broad sampling of it, reaffirms our confidence in the series, and we’re excited to see where this timely drama will take us for season two.”
“Sam Esmail has captured and distilled our ongoing cultural conversation about identity, privacy, value and self-worth,” said Jeff Wachtel, President and Chief Content Officer, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “We are all talking about the central themes of Mr. Robot – Sam has just done it in a completely original and uniquely compelling way.”
MR. ROBOT won over audiences at this year’s South By Southwest Festival in March, winning the coveted audience award in the Episodics category. The series was also named an official selection of the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival in April.
To-date, more than 2.7MM viewers sampled the series pilot, which was available four weeks early as part of the network’s unique windowing strategy. Beginning May 27, USA made the pilot available via On Demand platforms including Xfinity On Demand, USANetwork.com, the USA Now App (iOS, Android, Xbox One), Hulu and YouTube, iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, Vudu, XBOX Video, PlayStation Video, and M-GO. The pilot was also available via Twitch, IMDb, EW.com, THR.com, Telemundo.com, Terra.com, Latina.com, The Verge.com and 22 sites within the Crave Online.
MR. ROBOT follows Elliot (Malek), a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night. Elliot finds himself at a crossroads when the mysterious leader (Slater) of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the firm he is paid to protect. Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs he believes are running (and ruining) the world. The series also stars Portia Doubleday (“Her”), Carly Chaikin (“Suburgatory”) and Martin Wallström (“Simple Simon).
From Universal Cable Productions, MR. ROBOT is from writer and executive producer Sam Esmail (“Comet”) and executive producers Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin (“True Detective”) and Chad Hamilton (“Breakup at a Wedding”).

Woah. That's quick. A lot of people must've watched online then. Very happy with this as I loved the pilot.
ReplyDeleteThat was fast
ReplyDeleteArey Wah!!! This is good news. Hope it lives up to USA Network's confidence in it.
ReplyDeleteYay! I really loved the pilot so I'm happy with this :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't expect this so soon but I will happily celebrate anyway.
ReplyDeleteI have the Pilot downloaded and sitting on my system ever since it was released early . All the positive buzz has really increased my interest. Will watch it later tonight.
ReplyDeleteI watched it this afternoon and it was superb.
ReplyDeleteJust watched this the other day and was impressed enough to purchase the season pass via Google Play, this makes me even more comfortable in my decision. USA must be impressed with the rest of the episodes as well I'd say to make this call so early.
ReplyDeleteRespect to USA for believing in the show and renewing it. The creator seems adamant that the show is a 10 episode a season, 4-5 season show, hopefully USA will allow the show to stay at 10 episodes instead of 13 episodes a season.
ReplyDeleteBold move, especially with Proof not doing that well. Lets see how the nubmbers will do from ep 2 onwards.
ReplyDeleteI might give it a try.Everyone is saying it's very good.
ReplyDeleteThe creator seems adamant that the show is a 10 episode a season, 4-5 season show
ReplyDeleteAny source link that you can provide for this? Please.
You definitely should. It's quite a bizarre pilot but it is very well put together.
ReplyDeleteWow this is very unexpected. Very bold move. I was waiting on the ratings to decide whether or not to check it out, I guess I don't have an excuse now.
ReplyDeletethis is probably the first USA show i'm watching
ReplyDeleteAwesome! The pilot was incredible.
ReplyDeleteInterview in THR today with the creator, question number 2 in the article.
ReplyDeleteThey should have at least waited for the ratings for the premiere, or maybe ep 2 (as the pilot has been available online for a month). They might get stuck with a low rated show if the show doesn't do well.
ReplyDeleteI loved the pilot. It was amazing.
ReplyDeleteAwesome news.
ReplyDeleteI knew you would be very happy with this lol
ReplyDeleteMaybe they sold the show to other markets or something in such a big way to ensure it is profitable no matter what? It is not like USA is flooding with alternatives either. I don't know, it is very surprising to me as well but I just like to think that they wouldn't be so dumb as to do this just like that if there was a possibility of them loosing money on the product.
ReplyDeleteYou really should. I knew the pilot was going to be good, but I was surprised it turned out to be amazing.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Hopefully you'll like it.
ReplyDeleteWow,wasn't expecting that so soon.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to read this loved the pilot. Rami n Christian, all of the players were amazing in the premiere can't wait too see more.
ReplyDeleteGreat interview by the way. Loved what he said about likeable characters on TV.
ReplyDeleteThat was fast! Ok, I was going to check it out but now it has definitely moved up my to-watch list.
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Haven't loved a new USA drama for long time and was so surprised by the pilot.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was quick for a renewal before the series starts,
ReplyDeleteGreat news, I'm allready addict
ReplyDeleteWoo, thanks USA! Glad to see that they have such faith in the show and I'm looking forward to seeing more of the story unfold in the next few weeks!
ReplyDeleteI am glad for the news. The pilot won me over in just a few minutes. If quality stays the same throughout the series, it'll be a masterpiece for sure. Really looking forward to episode 2!
ReplyDeleteJust got done watching the pilot. Best thing USA has done in a very long time.
ReplyDeleteGlad you loved it.
ReplyDeleteThat was quick. Good for the show I guess...
ReplyDeleteI've only heard good things, but personally all the promotion (even the sneak peeks) did nothing for me...
