MOVIES: The Fantastic Four - FOX Pulls Previous Movies From Digital Services

9 Jun 2015

Jessica Alba really has become the invisible woman: Fox has removed all traces of her and Chris Evans' Fantastic Four films from digital platforms as the studio prepares to release its 2015 reboot, starring Miles Teller and Kate Mara.

Fox is rebooting its Fantastic Four film franchise this summer with the release of a new take on the comic-book story, which also stars Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell. But those hoping to download Fox's most recent Fantastic Four films (the 2005 and 2007 ones with Evans and Alba) on iTunes or Amazon are out of luck.

A source close to the situation tells The Hollywood Reporter, the older titles have been removed from digital platforms ahead of the release of the new film, so as not to distract from promotion of the rebooted franchise, which is seeking to establish a different tone than the previous releases. The source says the older titles might cause confusion in the marketplace.

Well...you all know what this means...

  1. This reboot will flop so hard. Can't wait to see it go down.

  2. Fox is actually worried about that film competing with the new one!?!?!? It must be really bad if Fox is concerned about that!

  3. Great choice of comic panel there. Though I'm not fan of the original films it does seem a bit silly. I mean its not like Sony erased all traces of the original Spidey films when Amazing Spider-man came out. Its very clear there is a difference!

  4. This just seems like a shortsighted and desperate move lol. I probably will end up seeing the movie although it doesn't seem all that exciting.

  5. WTF?

Hey, we're promoting a franchise big now. What to do? Let's throw some potential money sources from streaming services.

God, I want this movie to fail now

  6. Really? What is Fox afraid of? That people will see how awful the reboots are??

    Seriously? That's just messy Fox....

  8. I have to confess. I have both on DVD.

  9. as do I and I don't care what others think: I love 'em

  10. there's a whole list floating around the internet listing every production mess this movie had, I'll try to find it for you...

    Same.

I still want them to release the classic 'unreleased' movie onto DVD though. I want a proper copy of it.

My favorite was when Josh Trank had a meltdown and leaked spoilers of the movie himself onto 4chan and started arguing with people over the Star Wars drama.

    Mmhmmm.

Marvel and Disney have already jumped on the band wagon. The 3 FF animated series they own are being re-released on DVD. The 4th (the 1960's show) is owned by WB and I doubt will ever see the light of day again.

  14. I'd love to see a version of that movie that isn't all grainy :D

  15. I really want Disney to ban all F4 spots from the ABC lineup

block that sh*tty movie (I'll eat my heart out when it's actually good but who cares, f**k Trank)

  16. I would have felt bad for Trank if he wasn't such a jerk. Got to be hard to stem a big budget movie all on your own but the way he totally sh*t talked Lee and Ditko and implied that they were racist for NOT making Johnny Storm black in the original comic book was outrageous

    Hopefully one day...
It was confirmed late last year that Marvel Studio's bought the rights to it so they now they official own it. So in theory if enough people pester Marvel for it they might release it.

  18. Might as well pull the reboot from being released too.

    Mmmhmmm.
    Dude's got problems.

  20. neat, I might give it a try to annoy them on twitter and some other contacts I have. Hell...I might even do a DVD/BluRay cover art for free!

Don't forget to ask them about that other live action Spider-Man show!
    We need that :)

I wouldn't mind seeing a proper release of some of their pilots that didn't make it to air either. Some have leaked like the cheesy Solarman pilot:

  22. Same, I love these movies!!!

  23. Our biggest hope in that might be european DVD companies or SHOUT! factory.

I'm pretty certain that they'd love to do some "Marvel Classics" box sets.

They still have Dr. Strange, Generation X and Man-Thing shelved.

Don't hope for too much, my conncetions go to Maker-Studios (wich is co-owned by Disney) and a Disney Rep. who considered me to do a cartoon for them based on Mickey Epic. That's where that story pretty much ends.

btw. while we're at it, any thoughts on that sequence? (it's just a test so it's unpolished but I'm currently working on a Green Arrow animated series as a side-project for fun and really need the input):

Man-Thing was released on DVD in Europe (it's a 2-disc special edition). I believe the issue with Dr Strange and Generation X are that Marvel Studio's don't own them. (The Dr Strange TV movie is owned by Universal while Generation X is owned by FOX).

I'm still hoping that SHOUT! will release many of the missing live action Tokusatsu shows that have a western adaption. I only discovered the other day that The CW of all channels had a secret Kamen Rider series that aired in 2009...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfPkOE3GqC0

But of course it only got a DVD release in Japan. 40 episodes split into 2 box sets that are going for $150~ each.

As for the sequence, I like the tension build up. It's hard to get a grasp on it with only 30 seconds but it looks like it'll have potential once the character artwork is polished.

Wow, I'm shocked as I hadn't heard half of what you say.
If half of that is true, then this is a really messed up movie.
I wasn't super excited at all, but still willing to watch it. Now I'm very skeptical towards the results. It's a shame, F4 has a great storyline, fox can afford some decent cgi and most cast members are quite promising.

  26. same for me, the points listed come from imdb though not me, a lot of people there carried this information together.

But from what I've heard I'm heavily leaning on "this movie probably will take itself way too serious"

    ReplyDelete
  27. Darn it, I thought at least GenX was theirs :o

lol Matt Mullins starred in that one? xD
as long as the hsow is in eglish it's all about licensing, in case they have to be dubbed in advance there's a problem

thanks, yeah, I'm not sure about cleaning up the movements later on given the fact that it's only 1 animator

    ReplyDelete
  28. how would they distract anyone? they sucked

    ReplyDelete
  29. probably better than the one they're about to release

    ReplyDelete
  30. Should have pulled them from TIME.

    ReplyDelete
  31. not sure why they let this one get produced then. Didn't think that scenario was possible.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Christopher DeBono10 June 2015 at 00:27

Theirs a lot that were dubbed/adapted for English but never got a proper release. The 2 Kamen Rider series in particular (Masked Rider and Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight).

Masked Rider in particular is weird since he actually crossed over with the main power rangers series.

And yes :P Matt Mullins is Wing Knight.

Oh, so who do I need to kick to get most of the Disney Afternoon shows on DVD finally? I want the last 30 episodes of Ducktales and Darkwing Duck. Along with the Aladdin, Hercules and Little Mermaid TV Shows.

They just want to keep the rights away from Marvel/Disney.

If they don't use the rights for a certain number of years (suspected to be 10) then they revert back to Marvel. Even if they don't release the film, as long as they show that they were actually using the rights for something then they wont revert back.

  34. Ha! This comment made me laugh and nod in agreement at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks for sharing all of this!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Maybe they're afraid people will be able to compare how awful they both are...?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I mean I know they are bad movies, but I still enjoy them for the campy mess they are, and I think this is a silly and pointless move altogether. Like what? People aren't going to comparable them...
