Lucifer - The Newest Target For One Million Moms'

Jun 1, 2015

The American Family Association's One Million Moms website has launched a petition calling for Fox to halt its plans to air a new television series called "Lucifer" in 2016, saying the program "mischaracterizes" Satan and "mocks the Bible."

One Million Moms posted the petition on Thursday and thus far, 9,344 "concerned mothers" have have asked Fox to cancel the program by signing the petition. The petition on the AFA website, which was also posted Thursday, has garnered the support of over 51,000 "concerned viewers."

"The program previews mischaracterize Satan, departs from true biblical teachings about him, and inaccurately portrays the beliefs of the Christian faith," the petition argues. "By choosing to air this show, Fox is disrespecting Christianity and mocking the Bible."

Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the “Concerned Mothers of America” announced that they were boycotting SANDMAN because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book… They told us they were organising a boycott of SANDMAN, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform.

I wonder if they noticed it didn’t work last time, either…

  1. OH NO THE HORROR. THE HORROR.

How about you change the channel and prevent your kids from watching it instead?

  2. Those Moms should be more concerned how they raise their children. Cause if 1 sloppy tv show can push their children to a highway to hell they certainly did something wrong.

  3. I feel so sad for these kids, growing up with such bored and ignorant mothers.

  4. This is nothing against SpoilerTV, but I wish the media in general would stop reporting about these lunatics. They don't deserve the time of day. They're a bunch of ignorant, intolerant, bored old ladies and they have nothing of value to say. Their campaign against Ellen didn't work, and this won't either. I really wish the media would ban reporting on groups like 1 Million Moms + Westboro Baptist Church.

    ReplyDelete
  5. youd think they would boycott the comic itself back when it came out rather than the show thats based on it. Morons.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Ikr, it's really sad to think about.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ha, I see it slightly differently.

I see it as a way to show more people how stupid their organisation is :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm Christian and this doesn't bother me at all.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Do these people have nothing better to do with their life? Just don't watch it.

Reading through some of their other petitions it's completely pathetic. Just don't watch the damn thing.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yea, I certainly see that side of it too. I remember when when they attacked Ellen for some campaign that she did, there was a huge uproar and fan support against them which was indeed great to see.

  11. What a bunch of idiots, I would not want to be the son of one of that million ignorants.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The interest raised by this petition seems to have counteracted some of the negativity over the changes they've made to the story - personally I was pretty optimistic (I like the cast and thought the trailer showed promise) but am more eager to watch it now.

  13. I think it is good to report about them to show how useless they are, nothing they've ever done has barely worked.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Westboro is full of ****.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nothing beats trumpeting your ignorance and bigotry.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm loving the picture that you used for this haha.

    ReplyDelete
  17. How does this even concern them? What are they talking about? Like 12, 13, younger than that? Because it's not like they will be even watching it. I'm assuming this series is like for 15 and up? Have they ever learned of changing the channel? Look, when I have kids and I see that something that's not age appropriate for them, I'm changing the channel. They need to be focused on how they're raising their children and stop worrying about a tv show that has nothing to do with them.

  18. Wow stupid people trying to get attention.

Hope that Fox get's record breaking ratings for this one!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don’t know if I should laugh at their stupidity or cry at their stupidity.

  20. Their website is a great example of self delusion...they actually take credit for the cancellation of many series, such as 666 Park Avenue and .

    ReplyDelete
  21. ABC Family aired Pretty Woman! oh, the horror. Clearly the end of America.

  22. Thanks for the heads up,j just signed their petition.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Great, now they're going to spam your e-mail with crap forever and ever.

    ReplyDelete
  24. This was quite expected...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Mwhaha I was kidding, I'm not that type of person. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well aren't they special? Their time would be better spent petitioning to have TLC's completely overhauled with all of the hypocrites and child molesters they have over there. But they profess to be Christian so they won't.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Screw a kid? No problem, christ forgives ya. But do a show about a mythological villain? OH HEEELLLLZ NAW!

No seriously, some people really need to re-evaluate their priorities. And the worst thing is: these people are probably the target demo for shows like Honey Boo-Boo and similar crap.

I have my own problems with Lucifer, wich are that he's not evil and selfish enough, but to block it because it's of your totally sensible religion (not the heavy load of sarcasm) is....dumb as f**k

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't understand why these people just don't not watch themselves. Why try to get the show off the air?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Haha, exactly-sometimes I want to support the stuff they protest just to tick them off :D!
It's basic human behavior 101. Tell people they should be forbidden to watch/listen to/do something, or actually forbid it, and all that does is make people want to watch/listen to/do it even more.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I guess it's a good thing they didn't stick closer to the source material then. Because then we'd have 51,000 moms with heart attacks.

Let's see how long it takes them to get the scent of 'Preacher'. Now, that one is some good ol, grade A class blasphemy.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Does this remind anyone else of that SPN fans/P Diddy debacle on Twitter? The fans of the series tweets "#LuciferIsComing", then Diddy tweets out "#GodIsHere" like a freaking moron which made Twitter block the Lucifer hashtag.

  32. Umm, I was/am looking forward to yet another DC show. There are hundreds/thousands of other channels you can watch while Lucifer is on fox. Get over it

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree! I wanted to love Lucifer but as soon as the trailer came out, I knew that I wouldn't. It's not dark enough to carry that name, IMO.
These people are probably sisters to Westboro Baptist Church. Organized crazy is what it is. I'm waiting for Jim Jones to happen all over again. Sad, but true.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I remember that, lol. He was tweet (trigger) happy that day. Dumbass.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Any publicity is good publicity right? They are giving the show a lot of free promotion here. That combined with its decent X-Files lead in for the premiere will probably do a lot more good than harm.

Personally I'm very interested in this show, can't wait to see it!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Only for X-Files to totally outdo Lucifers portrayal of the devil.

Dayum...remember season 3s (or was it 2?) episode with the Satanist town that was plagued by the devil? Now THAT was a creepy and great episode

    ReplyDelete
  37. You know, I wasn't sold 100% on even watching the pilot but now that I hear about this -- I'm definitely watching the pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  38. yeah that one, loved the dark atmosphere it oozed

    ReplyDelete
  39. Actually they just launched a Real O'Neals one...

    ReplyDelete
  40. What will they do when the new Omen series starts?

    ReplyDelete
  41. LOL, I remember that! Oh the good old days of being in the Supernatural fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ugh what a bunch of whiners

    ReplyDelete
  43. +1 for the use of the Picard Facepalm!

Seriously though I love the fact its airing on FOX which isnt it from Rupert Murdoch and thus should be leaning towards the mums organisations?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Those One Million Moms need to get laid.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I hate this freaking group with passion. I just got all the more invested in Lucifer. So annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  46. well. they can try but will fail and their sons will still watch the show :p

    ReplyDelete
  47. Isn't this the same group that was upset when JC Penny used Ellen DeGeneres in an ad? Yeah no one should take this group seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  48. How about we just cancel Lucifer because it looks god awful?

    ReplyDelete
  49. When they use the word FAMILY, they actually mean stuck in the past, living in a 1950's dreamland, where rock and roll was never born, gays and lesbians stayed in the closet and minorities stayed off tv screens

    ReplyDelete
  50. muhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh!
i can't decide if it's hillariously tragic or tragically hillarious!

ps someone send them the supernatural dvds as a present please! pretty please! i wanna c what they'll say bout that! i mean...have they seen the portrayal of angels, demons, etc in that one? :D

    ReplyDelete
  51. I always love this stuff, because the bigots don't realize they're giving the show/whatever they're ragging on free publicity. FOX should be pleased.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The million, or heck, billion dollar question, isn't it? If people like these "concerned moms" learned to mind their own business and STFU, same-sex marriage would would be legal in all 50 U.S. states and plenty of other countries. However, they subscribe to the philosophy that "If *I* don't like something, everyone, everywhere, should be forbidden to do it".

    ReplyDelete
  53. Man, despite the prominence of the Devil on Supernatural back when, they don't seem to be able to get THAT show cancelled, huh? 11 years in. Who would've thought the mighty powers of One Million Moms could fail!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ha! Nice one Mr Gaiman... God I love him so much!

    ReplyDelete
  55. This is so ridiculous. I hope this show gets a full season just for this alone and then some. LOL make it happen, Fox, make it happen.

    ReplyDelete
  56. As I was reading this I thought, guess its good they never saw SPN. It would give them a collective heart attack. :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. naaah, u'd need 'dominion' for that :D

    ReplyDelete
  58. I don't like to eat spinach so I will stop everyone from eating spinach! :P That's their "logic". :-(

    ReplyDelete
  59. I agree and don't agree.
It is true, that parents have the responsibility to raise their children, provide them not only with a home, food and clothes, but also with some principles and concepts.
But it also is true, that hey have to give their children the necessary space and freedom so they can evolve into individuals. Into responsible people.
And they certainly can't do that but controlling every aspect of their lives (including the TV shows they watch) till the kids are 30.
My advice to the parents: Chill. Let your kids make their own experience. Let them learn from their mistakes.
And I absolutely agree with your "if 1 sloppy tv show can push their children to a highway to hell they certainly did something wrong" LOL

    ReplyDelete
  60. I agree with you.
Maybe this is not the right forum for this, but …
I was baptized. But the last time I was in church was 12 years ago when my grandmother died. And before that it was also years since my last visit. The truth is, I don't give a damn about religion.
Don't getme wrong. I have nothing against religion or religious people. I think that we can learn a lot out of it. What bothers me is, that fanatics use their religion as an excuse to hurt and kill and destroy. If you look at it, most of the wars start over religion.
I always say "to each his own". I won't force my believe on anyone, as I hope that no one will force their believes on me. That also includes those Moms.
And besides, this is just a show. With the sole purpose to entertain nations of bored people.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I agree with your opinion. U have to give Ur children space, but as said if all you thought your children can be erased cause of a TV show that is just silly, If you have issues with a show talk to Ur kid instead of working on a petition.

    ReplyDelete
  62. 2016? Not a chance!!!
    I want it NOW.
In 6 months I'll lose interest in this show. Show it, while people are still interested.

And those "perfect moms" maybe should consider two things:
    1. How many people get killed every day because of their religion? I get that religion is important to some people. But stop forcing your believes on others, as you don't want anyone to force their believes on you.
    2. It's a TV show. With the sole purpose to entertain nations of bored people. It's not a cult searching for recruits, but another way to waste some time.

    ReplyDelete
  63. So christians don´t have to watch it. Do atheists protest and sign petitions, when they shove the christianity down our throat in every single American show?

    ReplyDelete
  64. How bout no. How bout keeping an open mind before it comes out. Or you could juts not talk about it and focus on something you do like. Saying a show should get cancelled just because you dislike the trailer is incredibly childish logic.

    ReplyDelete
  65. You know what: Good on you for calling me out. That was childish of me.
