Jessica Jones - Title Simplified

Comicbook.com can confirm that Marvel has dropped "AKA" from the title of their Jessica Jones show that stars Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad).

Earlier today, a screenshot (view below) of Netflix's placeholder page for their upcoming Marvel series AKA Jessica Jones revealed that the title had been slightly altered.

Comicbook.com reached out to Marvel and they confirmed to us that the title has been changed to Marvel's Jessica Jones.

    I'm glad, the AKA really annoyed me. Now if they could just drop the 'Marvel's' from all their show titles as well that'd be great.

    Just Call it Violet, Jewel or Knightress... It doesn't matter :-) I do hope Luke Cage show would be "Power Man" or Maybe that's the title of its pilot or finale :D

    The AKA was there in the beginning because "Jessica Jones" wasn't the name she used as a super hero. So while she was fighting crime as a super hero, she went by one name, but her secret identity was Jessica Jones, hence the "also known as" part of the title (since she had forsaken her super hero roots at the beginning of this show).

    I've gotten used to it, at this point it'd be weirder if it wasn't there anymore. And it's not like it's going anywhere so, might as well get used to it.

    Yeah, I've always found the "Marvel's" irritating too, but I think (in some cases) they have to make the distinction and inform viewers that it takes place in the MCU. Especially in the case of Daredevil where it would simply have the same title as the movie without the "Marvel's". Still, I agree, it's really awkward to have to say "Marvel's" all the time.

    Seems like they really couldn't decide on a title. First the title had the AKA, then it didn't, then it had again and now it again doesn't.

    In the case of AOS it was a legal necessity. Rumor has it that Fox felt the original title was too close to their show The Shield and we are all aware how 'complicated' the Fox/Marvel relationship is so it was changed. As someone else mentioned in the case of Daredevil it was to distinguish it from the movie. However, I have no idea why they decided to do Marvel's Agent Carter and Jessica Jones except for the sake of consistency.

    I can see both the pros and the cons of this, on the one hand the original title was kind of a mouthful and didn't roll off the tongue so easily (especially when you added the obligatory "Marvel's" in the beginning), but on the other hand, I liked that it was more unique than just having the main character's name and gave a wink to her being a detective who takes on different aliases. Oh well.

    I think the "Marvel's" is to differentiate the properties that are actually being produced by Marvel Studios from the ones that are based on Marvel Comics, but produced by Fox or Sony. The issue of the movie rights to Marvel's characters being split between several different studios makes for a giant mess.
