Hannibal - Secondo - Advanced Preview

After two controversial episodes, this season of "Hannibal" is probably the weirdest yet, exploring the characters in a very different way and far from those procedural episodes from last season. This is why this season has so far divided the fans. Last week I told you that "Primavera" would reconcile them and everyone would eventually agree that the show is back on track. However, I've also read a lot of bad reviews concerning the episode, most of them are criticizing the fact that there is no action in the show and they spend 75% of the episode having talks and discussions that are leading nowhere. This criticism is legitimate, but false in my opinion because "Hannibal" is, above being a serial-killer show, a show about its characters and their evolution by going through their feelings and their psychology. So I guess that this criticism isn't really relevant and suitable concerning this show.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed last week's episode. It was a good one for me as it introduced really well the season (better than the premiere) and it gave us a taste of what's to come in season 3. I hope that you were as shocked as me when I realized that Abigail was only in Will's mind even if I made it a little predictable with my preview.

This week, expect to be a little disappointed compared to last week's episode. The episode is far from being bad or uninteresting, but less surprising than "Primavera". I mean, don't expect it to be better than last week's episode (in my opinion) but it's a very good one too loaded with very interesting advancements in the story of every character.
In "Secondo", we change the location and we go from Florence in Italia to Aukstaitija in Lithuania... which was Hannibal's home when he was younger. And throughout the episode, we follow Will in his journey to find out more about Hannibal's past and in his quest, he came across Chiyoh, handmaiden to Hannibal's aunt, Lady Murasaki and we learn a bit about her relationship with Hannibal and about Mischa, Hannibal's dead sister.

While Will is on his journey (of revenge? of reconciliation? I guess that by the end of the episode, you'll be definitely fixed on his true motivations) in Lithuania, Hannibal and Bedelia are still in Florence and the discussions that they are having is leading to a very unexpected revelation about Hannibal's past. Plus, the relationship between Hannibal and Bedelia is slowly shifting as it begins to transform Bedelia drastically because we witness a scene particularly important for her as a companion to Hannibal. We also understand what is Hannibal's plan in Florence: our cannibal is back on track too.

Finally, expect to be surprised by the return of another character this week who will team with Rinaldo Pazzi, the Italian inspector who tried to convince Will to catch Hannibal.

Tune in to "Hannibal" on Thursdays @ 10/9c on NBC Network. Be sure to come back here to SpoilerTV to let everyone else know what you thought of the episode. Hit the comments section below and tell us what are your expectations from the third episode of this season of Hannibal.

  2. Can't wait to see it.

Hannibal's past (Mischa and Lady Marasaki finally!), Bedelia's moves and the return of.... oh, well.

    Thank you for your preview.

This isn't a crime show. It's something more complex and beautiful, in my opinion. To me, words, self-exploration and characters are much more interesting than mere action.

Let me guess: on IMDB? Its message boards are a cesspool of negativity and degeneracy these days. If they want action, may be they should stick it to watching over-the-top comic book movies.

  5. Hannibal was never about "action". It's always been a show about it's characters and psyche, exploration and introspection of the darker side of human nature and the ripple effect it has on the people who come in contact with that darkness. So, I really don't understand what's different this season.

  9. You totally summarized the show and you're absolutely right. The show has always been this way so the bad reviews are really weird...
