TORONTO, June 1, 2015 - Today, Shaw Media announced Global's action-packed 2015/2016 fall schedule. Strengthening its already rock solid schedule of powerful dramas, Global is set to debut 13 new super-charged series. One of the most anticipated new shows for fall, with an astounding 12 million trailer views on YouTube in just two weeks, Supergirl joins Global's powerhouse fall lineup. From the DC Comics Universe, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist (Glee, Whiplash) as a coffee-fetching assistant whose life takes a dramatic turn when she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was always destined to be. Giving Global a super one-two punch is the highly anticipated superhuman adventure series Heroes: Reborn, based on the Emmy® Award winning original series Heroes from creator Tim Kring, featuring a fresh crop of inspiring heroes with extraordinary abilities.
Global continues to up the ante with high-profile new series Limitless and Minority Report. Limitless, based on the 2011 film starring Bradley Cooper - who reprises his role as a guest star in the pilot and serves as an Executive Producer - follows Brian Finch (Jake McDorman, American Sniper) as he discovers the brain-boosting power of mysterious drug NZT and is coerced by the FBI to use his extraordinary cognitive abilities to solve complex cases. Minority Report, based on the successful Steven Spielberg film and starring one of Variety's 10 TV Actors to Watch Stark Sands, picks up 10 years after the end of Precrime in D.C. where a Precog and an idealistic detective work together clandestinely to stop the future he sees. Also new to the schedule is electrifying medical drama Heartbreaker, starring Melissa George (The Slap) as Dr. Alex Panttiere - an outspoken, world-renowned heart-transplant surgeon who pushes the boundaries of medical science to impressive new heights.
In an epic entrance to late night television and a weeknight game changer, Global brings critically acclaimed television host and comedian Stephen Colbert to Canadians with The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The laughs continue with Golden Globe® and multiple Emmy® Award winner Jane Lynch (Glee) in Angel From Hell, a single camera comedy that follows Amy (Lynch), a colourful, brassy woman who insinuates herself into Allison's (Maggie Lawson, Two and a Half Men) perfect life, claiming to be her guardian angel. Rounding out a knock-out comedic slate is the unabashed new comedy People Are Talking starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Franklin and Bash, Saved By the Bell). People Are Talking follows two diverse couples who are neighbours and best friends, and nothing is off limits for this wildly outspoken foursome as they go through life side-by-side and analyze and obsess about everything.
"With compelling, buzzed about new shows, and huge stars joining the lineup this fall, Global has a formidable combination of dramas, comedies, and thrilling action series to build upon the massive success of returning hits like the NCIS franchise, The Good Wife, and The Blacklist," said Christine Shipton, SVP and Chief Creative Officer, Shaw Media. "Closing out primetime with The Late Show With Stephen Colbert five nights a week makes Global the place for Canadians to watch primetime programming from start to finish, every night this fall."
Hitting the Global schedule midseason is the gritty new drama Shades of Blue, featuring the multi-talented Jennifer Lopez as a sexy New York detective and single mom. New event series Containment and the latest installment to the uber-popular Chicago franchise Chicago Med starring Oliver Platt (The Good Wife, Fargo) join the schedule midseason.
Global makes way for more homegrown heavyweights with green lights of three Canadian original series, including ratings juggernaut Big Brother Canada which is set to return for a fourth season. This past season quickly became the most shocking, twisted, and dramatic season yet, captivating Canadians across the country. The show's third season, and its inaugural run on Global, grew its audience by 40% over its sophomore season on Slice* claiming its place as a top 20 series across all conventional programming since its premiere.** Fans flocked to bigbrothercanada.ca to engage and cast votes to impact the show and were glued to the live feeds with over 1.6 million hours of live streaming consumed during the season run, a 33% increase over last season.*** The Network also gets ready for the new procedural drama series The Code (working title) starring Jason Priestley - who also serves as an Executive Producer - as an ex-pro hockey player who uses his celebrity status and reputation as an enforcer on the ice in his new gig as a crime-solving PI. House creator David Shore returns with a new supernatural crime series, Houdini and Doyle, inspired by the real-life friendship between Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini.
Fan favourites anchor Global's fall schedule as the Network welcomes back its must-see dramatic series including last year's political powerhouse drama Madam Secretary and hit series NCIS: New Orleans, The Blacklist, Elementary, Hawaii Five-0, and The Good Wife continue to keep Global at the top of its game while the undeniably addictive Chicago Fire and Chicago PD plus NCISandNCIS: LA franchises return with new seasons.
