FOX has set the fall premiere dates for its new and returning series.
The 2015-2016 season begins with the 67TH PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS, which returns to FOX, airing LIVE coast-to-coast from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 20 (8:00-11:00 PM ET live/5:00-8:00 PM PT live). The special will be hosted by Emmy® Award-winning writer, actor and comedian Andy Samberg (BROOKLYN NINE-NINE).
The stakes are higher than ever as GOTHAM explores the origin stories of some of the most ambitious and depraved Super Villains, including The Riddler, The Joker and Mr. Freeze, and Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) uncovers more secrets from his father’s past, in the Season Two debut on Monday, Sept. 21 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), followed by the series premiere of futuristic crime drama MINORITY REPORT (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). Based on Steven Spielberg’s international blockbuster film and the first of his films to be adapted for television, MINORITY REPORT follows the partnership between a man (Stark Sands, “Inside Llewyn Davis”) haunted by the future and a cop (Meagan Good, “Think Like A Man” franchise, “Californication”) haunted by her past, as they race to stop the worst crimes before they happen.
Award-winning executive producers Ryan Murphy (“Glee,” “American Horror Story”), Brad Falchuk (“Glee,” “American Horror Story”) and Ian Brennan (“Glee”) meld comedy, mystery and horror in SCREAM QUEENS, which debuts with a special, two-hour series premiere event on Tuesday, Sept. 22 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). All hell is about to break loose on the Wallace University campus when, exactly 20 years after a mysterious tragedy, a devil-clad killer begins to target the sisters of Kappa House. The super-charged anthology series is a modern take on the classic whodunit with a killer cast, including Emma Roberts (“American Horror Story: Freak Show,” “Scream 4”), Jamie Lee Curtis (“Halloween,” “A Fish Called Wanda,” “True Lies”), Lea Michele (“Glee”), Abigail Breslin (“Little Miss Sunshine”), Oliver Hudson (“Nashville,” “Rules of Engagement”), Keke Palmer (“Akeela and the Bee,” “Masters of Sex”), Nick Jonas (“Kingdom”) and pop superstar and actress Ariana Grande, among others. With at least one casualty each week until the mystery is solved, anyone could be the next victim – or the murderer. On Tuesday, Sept. 29 the series will make its time period premiere (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, new comedies GRANDFATHERED (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) and THE GRINDER (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) kick off an all-new Tuesday. GRANDFATHERED is a coming-of-middle-age story starring John Stamos (“Full House,” “ER”) as the ultimate bachelor whose life is turned upside down when he discovers he’s not only a father, but a grandfather. The series also stars Josh Peck (“The Mindy Project”). THE GRINDER, starring Emmy Award nominee Rob Lowe (“Parks and Recreation,” “The West Wing”) and Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominee Fred Savage (“The Wonder Years”), follows a famous TV lawyer (Lowe) who is going from show business…to the family business. After his hit series, “The Grinder,” is canceled, he moves back home and joins his brother (Savage) at their family’s real-life law firm – despite having no law degree, no license to practice and no experience in an actual courtroom.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of one of the world’s hottest cities – Miami – new medical procedural ROSEWOOD premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 23 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The series stars Morris Chestnut (“Nurse Jackie,” “The Best Man” franchise) as DR. BEAUMONT ROSEWOOD, JR., the city’s top private pathologist. Brilliant, cool with tons of charisma, Rosewood teams up with the tough-as-nails DETECTIVE ANNALISE VILLA (Jaina Lee Ortiz, “The After”), to uncover clues no one else sees and help the Miami PD solve the city’s most challenging cases. The series comes from executive producer Todd Harthan (“Psych,” “Dominion”) and also stars Lorraine Toussaint (“Orange is the New Black”).
EMPIRE, broadcast television’s biggest hit, returns at 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT, following ROSEWOOD. The series will pick up three months after the shocking arrest and incarceration of Empire Entertainment head LUCIOUS LYON (Terrence Howard). Knowing Lucious won’t be held much longer in prison, COOKIE (Taraji P. Henson) and her allies within the Lyon family make a desperate attempt to seize control of the company. But as the Lyons continue to battle each other, a bigger external threat emerges that could force them to unite.
The fun returns to Sundays beginning Sept. 27, with the season premieres of Emmy Award-winning comedy BOB’S BURGERS (7:30-8:00 PM ET/PT), the unprecedented 27th season of THE SIMPSONS (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), the Golden Globe-winning live-action comedy BROOKLYN NINE-NINE (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT), the 13th season of FAMILY GUY (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) and the critically acclaimed live-action comedy THE LAST MAN ON EARTH (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT).
On Thursday, Oct. 1 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), BONES returns for its 11th season. Picking up six months after the Season 10 finale, BRENNAN (Emily Deschanel) and BOOTH (David Boreanaz) have moved on to a new town and new jobs, having given up their old life and settled into a blissful death-free existence. But a murder unlike any other draws them back to investigate with their former colleagues at the Jeffersonian and FBI. At 9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT, SLEEPY HOLLOW returns after a disquieting break in the demonic action, as our heroes – ICHABOD CRANE (Tom Mison) and ABBIE MILLS (Nicole Beharie) – adjust to a world seemingly without Moloch, witchy wives, evil sons and headless ex-best friends. However, nothing is ever quite as it seems, and the eerie calm will quickly give way to the next tribulation, driven by a surprising supernatural presence that will challenge Crane and Mills in ways they never imagined.
Judges Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot and Christina Tosi find the next best junior chef in America, when MASTERCHEF JUNIOR returns Friday, Nov. 6 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), followed by all-new episodes of WORLD’S FUNNIEST (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), in which host Terry Crews (BROOKLYN NINE-NINE) and weekly guest panelists, such as Wayne Brady, Margaret Cho, Natasha Leggero and Sherri Shepherd, bring fresh, unexpected takes on the best in hilarious, heartwarming and other viral videos of the week.

Not sure it is a good idea to push the comedies for later instead of premiering them in Week 0, but well. That makes it official that this year no program is starting in Week 0, I think that is the first time in a while. On the other hand, pushing the Thursday combo a week to avoid the higher than usual rated TGIT premiere (plus the premiere of NBC lineup in which I expect Heroes to score a season high) is smart.

ReplyDeleteGrandfathered is my most anticipated comedy and shockingly one of my most anticipated shows overall. It is too bad that it is so much in danger before it even premieres.

ReplyDeleteYeah I also didn't expect much but I loved the promo so much that it made me 100% decided to watch it. We'll see about the success. B99 made it in the slot two years ago after all. True that there were no Muppets at the time but NCIS and the voice were stronger than they are now, and Agents of Shield was pretty strong competition in the first half of Season 1, especially considering Shield and B99 have similar male audiences. So it is possible for a comedy to make it there, I want to be hopeful
ReplyDeleteI am really surprised that all the networks decided to announce the premiere dates in June. Last year, only NBC announced their premiere dates in (the first week of) June, while the other 4 did so in July.

ReplyDeleteIt's probably one of the most ordinary years though. Although we do have at least one premiere per week up until Week 8, which is insanely late, there is nothing premiering in the pre-season week (Which it's been a long time since it last happened) and there are no out of timeslot previews or anything, everything is pretty regular for the most part.

Really? I'm afraid it'll do the opposite. I really hope I'm wrong, though.
The Voice is probably taking the timeslot anyway but I still expect Scream Queens to be huge. If NPH does not retain the voice very well, FOX might just take premiere Tuesday, we'll see. Maybe I am being too optimistic here.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean with doing the opposite? The TGIT shows have a tendency to spike abnormally high in premiere nights (both fall and spring premieres) and then have higher than normal drops in the second week following the return. And I expect the NBC lineup, particularly Heroes, to follow a similar pattern (The Blacklist itself had a ridiculously high drop from the first to the second episode on Mondays on Season 2). So yes, I think FOX is better off not trying to fight against that and letting the dust settle before bringing in their shows. I doubt it makes much of a difference long term but at least it's something.

Two hour premiere of Scream Queens-Oh Yeah!!
ReplyDeleteI think FOX is right not to put Bones on the other twos premieres, although it means more of Bones going up against TBBT. On the other hand maybe we wont get another 4 month long hiatus for them again. October 1st isn't as long as when they came back for season 7( that was a long, long layoff then). Also this might give Emily more time with her baby before they start production. This at least for the rest of FOX'S schedule looks not half bad.

ReplyDeleteMondays are looking good with Gotham and Minority Report. Gonna check out Scream Queens and I'm probably gonna love Wednesdays nights with Rosewood and the very talked about Empire. However Rosewood might have to start loving in my DVR once Arrow makes it's return. Same with Gotham if Supergirl turns out to be good, wasn't really smart to put two DC shows on that same knight and time

ReplyDeleteFOX made a great schedule. Showing courage in Scream Queen's aggressive placement and moving Bones and Sleepy Hollow back a week to avoid the pitfall all returning shows have in competing for attention against the new stuff. The rest was already spoiled or as expected.

ReplyDeleteThat makes total sense, Emily having a new baby and all. If Bones gets 22 episodes they shouldn't have that long of a layoff, unless FOX was so impressed with what Bones did this June they will push into July at end of next year LOL.
ReplyDeleteA lot of FOX shows need promotion but only these will get it; Empire, Scream Queens, Gotham, and American Idol right before it comes back. New comedies and dramas will be promoted for a little while and all the other ones ( Sleepy, Bones, and New Girl when it comes back) will get minimal attention.. While I like Sleepy being paired with Bones, it is on the wrong night to do so. Hope for the best for Sleepy on Thursday

(Except for A.I. since this is it's last season, will get a lot of promotion) Thursday will be action packed. (i personally have too many shows on Thursday). I think Sleepy Hollow will do WAY better than season 2, so idt we have to hope too high fr it. SL wise.

It depends on how good the episode will be. I'll have to alternate through all my shows. Well actually i already made up my mind on my 8pm Thursday slot live watch. That'll always go to TVD.
ReplyDeleteFor Scream Queens, low to mid 2s seems reasonable. Anyone predicting above a 3 or even a 4 is way too optimistic or has an agenda. The reality is that it's going against The Muppets, NCIS, and The Voice and all three will be strong premieres. I wouldn't be surprised to see Scream Queens in 4th place at the 8 PM hour.

ReplyDeleteI find it annoying. I mean my Thursdays are usually packed that's not the problem, the problem is, this yr i have a lot of shows in the 8-9 time slot, and i can't record all of them. So i have to alternate, and i hate when i have to do that, and when i have to watch some OD.
