SyFy ratings are gonna be pretty boring with 0.2s every week.
ReplyDeleteThis week sorted Syfy's ratings future out, Defiance has a shot of returning, the other two are likely done. Killjoys and Dark Matter were busts.
ReplyDeleteOut of the 3 Dark Matter and Killjoys are probably the safest thanks mainly to Canada. Dark Matter will surely be helped by it's performance in other countries too.
ReplyDeleteI agree, they'd probably do a lot better if they were SyFyThursdays instead :P
ReplyDeleteSyfy own Defiance, and profit from it via other means like DVD/BD sales, digital sales and things like that. They don't own Dark Matter and co partners on Killjoys.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what's helping Dark Matter and Killjoys, it's cheaper for them.
ReplyDeleteI think so too. They need to let Fridays go, they keep putting big name shows there when it should be a place pretty much for acquisitions such as Lost Girl, Bitten etc.
ReplyDeleteI'd guess both Dark Matter and Killjoys will probably look for other American outlets to broadcast. The cost model could work elsewhere, like a streaming site, but for Syfy, a freshman show with low ratings like those two isn't too promising.
ReplyDeleteThey seemed happy with 12 Monkeys getting those numbers. I really don't get why they put them on a Friday to begin with.
ReplyDeleteIts like Being Human
ReplyDeletedark matter was ordered by syfy and of course it was produced by a production company. killjoys was orderd from the begginning by space channell. syfy became a co-producer about six moths after the killjoys ordered the show.
ReplyDeleteNo. The show was sold to Syfy in a distribution deal worldwide, Syfy don't own Dark Matter at all. Where as say Defiance is a Universal cable production owned by the network.
ReplyDeleteHow does that help them? Defiance produces additional $$$$ for the network. DVD/BD sales + Digital revenue = more profitability.
ReplyDeleteyou really can't understand the difference between the tho shows? killjoys renewal is also up to space ch. Dark matter's is only up to syfy (they own it or not)
ReplyDeleteboth shows are the kind of show that cant do better than that.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it doesn't. Just there's a big difference between an inhouse production(Defiance) and one the network pays a license fee for(Dark Matter).
ReplyDeleteYou mean Killjoys and Dark Matter? Out of Fridays they definitely they could.
ReplyDeleteAnd the money they save (and make) from Killjoys being an import and the profit they make off the high performance in other countries from Dark Matter will be higher than that.
ReplyDeleteOf course but I'm sure the license fee is extremely cheap.
ReplyDeleteBut wouldn't the most logical choice be to renew the show that's bringing in the most money? True cheap is good, but if you have a show you actively own bringing in cash from other means, it looks better.
ReplyDeleteyes. they are shows that can not bring in people that wants something more from their sci fi. Neither is BSG (just anexample)
ReplyDeleteThe logical choice is to bring in money. If all 3 are doing it in any way then they'll be kept.
ReplyDeleteI really can't explain the 12 Monkeys renewal. I'm not aware of it doing well in international markets or syfy.com, so it probably had to do with network favoritism. Those in charge either had a bias towards the series or couldn't admit that their big attempt at a film franchise adaption severely under performed.
ReplyDeleteI fell if that's what they're hitting across the board, then it shouldn't be too bad... plus with 2 out of 3 being Canadian co-productions it's also probably not that expensive...
