Ouch syfy
ReplyDeleteagksuqlqux The Messengers always gets adjusted down. -_-
ReplyDeleteDefiance is sooooo getting cancelled!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy all 3 Syfy dramas. I hope they can pull 12 Monkeys and somehow get renewed
ReplyDeleteEverytime I see the adjustment down my heart breaks a bit. I'm still not over the way this show was treated.
ReplyDeleteWhy not "Powerful Mondays" Syfy? Why??
ReplyDeleteBeing Human did well for 4 seasons!!
I'm not surprised neither for Dark Matter nor for Killjoys allthough for different reasons.
ReplyDeleteI knew that 1 million viewers and a 0.3 for The Messengers was too good to be true
ReplyDeleteOh Sy Fy, finally have sci-fi shows and its still not going well.
ReplyDeleteKilljoys tanked and Dark Matter is looking very low at a 0.2.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to guess, it's Defiance or nothing. A new show pulling 0.2 or 0.3 is not likely to cut it.
I haven't seen Dark Matter but Killjoys was very boring. I was completely disappointing as the marketing was actually better than the show itself. I would be very surprised if it keeps its ratings.
ReplyDeleteYes but Killjoys is primarely produced by space channell (syfy only came as a coproducer along the way) so it matters also what they will say
ReplyDeleteI hope SyFy weren't stupid enough to actually expect better ratings than this. It's nice they want to rebuild SyFyFridays but maybe start with the other days first.
ReplyDeleteAnd Defiance had a 0.07 drop to 0.16 which rounded up to a 0.2. Soon enough, it will hit the 0.1 mark IMO. I found the s03 premiere much better than the s02 overall mess. I really like Killjoys.
ReplyDeleteSyfys problem is that they're not willing to invest the money in shows with high production values and decent writers/actors. The more they keep producing generic low budget shows, the more they will see their ratings collapse. Arguably the only show on the Syfy Friday block with a budget is Defiance and that will probably be cancelled.
ReplyDeleteIf Syfy want to win back viewers, hire some decent writers, look for the talented producers, they are out there and back their projects with a budget, enough to attract some named talent. Unrelated but you only have to see how the CW for example put the money into The Flash and got some decent writers, and a decent cast and got amazing ratings. The Flash didn't get the success on the name alone, the talent behind it and the cast did it.
Filling your shows with Z list actors like Syfy have done with Killjoys and Dark Matter, Olympus, and others won't get people excited enough to watch.
I don't think so. Personally I can see Defiance stabilizing at low 0.2s. All of the Syfy shows in recent months have premiered with terrible numbers and have to some degree become stable. Defiance can and will get around a 0.2, a 0.3 if luck is on its side. Its not that bad that it'll get the Olympus level 0.1.
ReplyDeleteIf Syfy want to rebuild Syfy Fridays, they need to make contact with MGM and have a new Stargate series commissioned, and hire someone to do a proper Battlestar Galactica series. While they're at it, perhaps looking at reviving Farscape.
ReplyDeleteEverything you just said is all a matter of a opinion though, you say Defiance has the biggest budget but I find it to be the worst of the Friday block. And you say The Flash has good talent but I thought it was one of the worst shows I've watched with a horrible cast. Olympus I agree with, that's horrible, I feel the same about Z Nation. But Killjoys and Dark Matter have some very recognisable talent and much better CGI than Defiance does so clearly they did have a lot of money thrown at them. 12 Monkeys doesn't have very recognisable names but the cast they did get is very good and they have great writers which got the show some critical acclaim. SyFy's problem is the reputation they've built over the last several years and that's not something that can be fixed overnight.
ReplyDeleteI would too. It's not so much that people don't want space shows, they just don't want these ones. They want a properly produced space show with a budget and a decent cast + writers. If Syfy use the failure of these three shows as an excuse to go back to reality ghost shows, It would be utterly tragic.
ReplyDeleteIt's not really opinion though. You only have to watch the shows to see my point, Killjoys and Dark Matter are low budget and offer nothing new. The casting itself for Dark Matter is, well I won't go there. Jodelle is great though, she can't save it. As an SGU fan you should know what a show with a budget looks like. Dark Matter isn't on the same level as SGU in terms of special effects, casting and pretty much everything.
ReplyDeleteWith MGM already after greenlighting the new Stargtae trilogy a new SG series is unlikely but I agree that bringing back old shows that were hits would be a good bet for them. They are trying really hard though, they've pumped out a lot of scripted shows over the last year and I'm glad they're giving them a chance at least.
ReplyDeleteSyfy as a network declined majorly when they cancelled the three Stargate shows, and ended BSG. The hype alone with BSG and Stargate coming back would bring people back to the network. Syfy should be knocking down MGMs door at this point and begging them to do a new TV Stargate show.
ReplyDeleteI agree with SGU
ReplyDeleteAnyway, as said above. If Syfy invest in a decent Science fiction series and hire decent writers and get a decent cast, people will watch it. If they want to continue going cheap they will only get these ratings. They should perhaps focus not on the quantity of shows on the network but more on the quality. The last hope seems to be The Expanse.
ReplyDeletein my country we have a say: " better loose your eye than getting a bad name". And syfy with z nation, olympus got the name of a channel with campy, cheesy shows not to mention the catastrophe named Ascension. Beyond that i agree that they must put some good money on their new shows and good actors.
ReplyDeleteAscension was good. Cut the crap!
ReplyDeleteSyFy probably can't afford to make a show with SG or BSG levels of quality anymore. Acting and quality is always a matter of opinion though, like personally I love the DM cast and I love the story but there are others who hate it. And that will be the case with any show, like Olympus even has it's fans. Besides, a show can have great talent behind it but still not give results.
ReplyDeleteAscension probably would have made it direct to series if it didn't have that twist at the end of Episode 1. Everyone bailed after that.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good plot twist
ReplyDeleteThey can when they lose the Wrestling which I believe is due to occur in 2016. It's moving to the USA Network. Losing the reality shows that have all pulled higher numbers at some point than the most recent scripted shows on the network has done nothing. It needs to return to the good old days, a mixture of high quality scripted shows + some reality to fill in the gaps in their schedule and make $$$. People hated the Ghost/Paranormal stuff(Which cost next to nothing to make) but when that stuff was pulling between 0.3-0.6(Higher for Ghost Hunters) the scripted shows in this article look bad in comparison.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be in the minority there, that twist alone made everyone spit blood. The show was sold as a retro type show in space with high production values.
ReplyDeleteI ahem, watched it until the end. But even then I can see why Syfy passed on making it direct to series. The twist severely limited the story telling potential and the star child with special powers has been done on like every Science fiction show on the planet.
ReplyDeleteThey've made mistakes, sure. But Ascension kinda proved that if you show what viewers want they will come. 1.76 million viewers before Christmas(And before the dreaded twist). What Syfy would do to get those viewers lol.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Killjoys came across as a cheap international show. There's nothing wrong with that as long as it doesn't look that way. Even without knowing it, I would have guessed it was made internationally.
ReplyDelete"Filling your shows with Z list actors like Syfy have done with Killjoys
ReplyDeleteand Dark Matter, Olympus, and others won't get people excited enough to
watch."
I completely agree. These shows can't break a 0.3. The audience has spoken already.
There's always the black sheep show that CW uses to just fill the schedule.
ReplyDeleteYep
ReplyDelete2012-2013 season had Cult/Emily Owens
2013-2014 season had Star-crossed
2014-2015 season has The Messengers
There were shows on other days! Cause I'm a bit confused as to why Syfy puts all of them on Fridays. What happened to the other days of the week? Next to mention Warehouse 13 was great on Mondays.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying Defiance, Dark Matter, and Killjoys though. Especially Defiance. The issue is when they changed to Syfy and started airing a bunch of non sc-ifi stuff - a lot of viewers left and they still haven't come back. That and they don't promote their shows enough and they're terrible with social media.
ReplyDeleteStargate Atlantis and Universe were both cancelled. A new Stargate would have the lowest ratings.
ReplyDeleteWell look at The 100. Best show on CW and nothing but critical acclaim, yet the ratings are low. Great shows can have low ratings. High ratings doesn't mean a show is good. The Flash is a bad comparison because it's about Superheroes which is the IT thing right now. Doesn't matter if it's crap or not, people will watch Superheroes.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter if the actors are known are not. Just because an actor is B or A lister doesn't mean they're good. There are plenty of hit shows that have a cast full of people we've never heard of before.
I'm not that worried about those SyFy numbers. I'm pretty sure they are both Canadian Co-Productions and if both shows do okay for Space it might not be that big of an issue...
