Thanks to Dimitri T for the heads up.
In a recent Q&A with Fangoria, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman confirmed that the six-episode first season of Fear the Walking Dead will debut on AMC in August, noting that he was “really excited” for the series to premiere. He did not give an exact date, but given that The Walking Dead usually premieres in mid-October, it’s safe to assume that Fear the Walking Dead will premiere in the last week of August, allowing it to lead straight into the mothership.
Kirkman also suggested that the first season of Fear the Walking Dead will be crazier and more chaotic than the first season of The Walking Dead, in part because of the opportunities, with it being set in Los Angeles, and in part because we’ll get to see “civilization crumble.” He also noted another difference between the prequel and the original series is that Fear will be shot digitally (as opposed to The Walking Dead, which is shot on film).
In the interview, Kirkman also wouldn’t rule out another limited-run spin-off series of The Walking Dead, but noted they had no plans to do so anytime soon.
“Let’s see how FEAR THE WALKING DEAD goes first, and then we’ll have nine spin-offs, and that’ll be great,” he said.

No official premiere date has been announced, however fans knew that “Fear the Walking Dead” would be hitting the small screen at some point this summer. Kirkman confirmed the month during a Q&A with Fangoria. While speaking to the site about expanding “The Walking Dead” universe, the 36-year-old comic book writer let it slip that it will air in August.

I'm glad we don't have to wait till October. And we should be getting some kind of new ComicCon footage this summer for Walking Dead, too. Maybe they will throw in some footage of this spinoff with it.
ReplyDeletewhy is it so hard for AMC just to say it's starting Sun Aug 30th? ...☺...
ReplyDeleteyay
ReplyDeletelooking forward to it
im only checking this out because Better Call Saul surprised me, but still dislike that it's US based.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised

What do you mean US based?
ReplyDeletewithin the United States.
ReplyDeleteWhere else did you expect it to be? It's a mainstream United States TV show.
ReplyDeleteIt could be geographically (and therefore narratively, given how much impact the location has on the story) if the spin-off took place somewhere else. Let us see how different governments reacted to the outbreak.
ReplyDeleteI, for one, would have LOVED a France-set spin-off. Jenner mentioned in season 1 that the French had come close to figuring out and curing the disease before they were apparently wiped out. I think there's loads of story potential there.
From what we know thus far, Fear is just the early days that we never saw in the mother show. LA isn't necessarily a particularly interesting place for a zombie outbreak, but I guess we'll see...
Thanks for nothing... We'd already figured that much out for ourselves. Logistically, Fear can only premiere on either August 23rd, or the 30th.
ReplyDeleteThe 30th would lead straight into the main show's premiere the following week, but the 23rd would allow for a week between shows, giving AMC the opportunity to squeeze in a full-series marathon.
Same loved Spinoff take place in China
ReplyDeleteOoh, 'Fear will be shot digitally (as opposed to The Walking Dead, which is shot on film).' Hopefully this will mean that darker scenes will have less noise and pixelation. That was a major problem in season 3 of the walking dead when they were in the prison. Sorry, this is just me being nerdy and loving specific things like this, but awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteWith China's government and culture, that could actually make for a really interesting watch. There's definitely a lot of compelling stories that could be mined there.
ReplyDeleteWhen is it starting in the UK? Anyone know? Xx
