Apparently, the Yellow Brick Road begins somewhere inside a gritty HBO crime anthology.
NBC’s event series Emerald City has cast True Detective Season 2 star Adria Arjona in the plum role of Dorothy, TVLine has learned.
A 10-episode, re-imagining of the classic Wizard of Oz universe — which blends elements from author L. Frank Baum’s 14-novel collection — Emerald City was scrapped last August due to creative differences between EP/writer Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and NBC. In April, the Peacock net revived the project with David Schulner (The Event) taking over the showrunner reins from Friedman. Shaun Cassidy (American Gothic, Invasion) will serve as executive producer alongside Schulner.
Here’s the official Emerald City logline: “In the blink of a tornado’s eye, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale and her K9 police dog are transported to another world, one far removed from our own — a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before, where wicked witches don’t stay dead for long and a young girl becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in her hands.”

Dorothy!! Finally something has surfaced about this show :)
ReplyDeleteI’m happy this was uncancelled but I honestly hope the production value and script is good. The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorites and I hope they honor the source material.
She was good in Person of Interest as Dani Silva, a cop.
ReplyDeleteOZ were on like Donkey Kong !!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd she is in the new season of "True Detective".
ReplyDeleteAdria Arjona looks he par of Dorothy Gale.
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful. I like her.
ReplyDeleteFinally some casting news!
ReplyDelete"Somewheeeeeeere, ooh-ver da raaiiinboooooow!!"
She is the sister of Ricardo Arjona
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that this was uncancelled! Plus, I think the actress is perfect for the part!
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm wondering who they'll cast as the Wicked Witch.
It sounds so good on paper but it could fall flat. Please be awesome. Scripts, cast, directing, production design, etc. All key in making this work. The fact it was uncancelled means they really like the idea. Just make the idea be the best it can be and we can only hope it exceeds expectations. I hate to get my hopes up for "it was ok".
ReplyDeleteHer father Edgar Ricardo Arjona ( known as Ricardo Arjona ) is a famous Latin singer well her brother Ricardo isn't 'famous' in his own right.
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful and seems really fitting for the role. Glad they are working on it. Fingers crossed it will be good.
ReplyDeleteWell it sounds pretty badass and i don't think that's honoring the source material LOL, that';s why i love it. Also you're right i'm so glad they revived it.
ReplyDeleteReally, you think?
ReplyDeleteI'm so ECSTATIC that it was revived!!!!!! She's very beautiful and i guess i could see her as Dorothy.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Emerald City already have a cast and an already shot the pilot before it was scrapped over the Showrunner VS NBC creative differences matter? Or had they not filmed anything before the argument? 'Cause there was some serious promotion going on at last year's Comic Con and I was wondering if it not only the Showrunner was changed but the cast as well.
ReplyDeleteNo film was shot on the last version. They never went into production.
ReplyDeleteIt does, I said honour not make a direct adaption :) I just want to see elements of Oz I love, that's all.
ReplyDeleteCool me too, i'm still sad that "Wonderland" wasn't picked up but i hope this show will become a full series and not just an "event series".
ReplyDeleteThen what were they promoting so strongly? The idea of the series?
ReplyDeleteSo they also hadn't cast anyone?
I was confused
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen her in anything so I have no opinion on this casting... Personally I'm still a bit upset Josh Friedman isn't involved. After what he did with T:TSCC I can't take anyone who disagrees with his creative vision too seriously (I'm looking at you NBC) ....
ReplyDeleteI'll be her Toto.
