Thanks to SnapeJJS and Spindae2 for the heads up.
Jon Bernthal (“Wolf of Wall Street,” “The Walking Dead, ” “Fury”) joins the upcoming season of “Marvel’s Daredevil,” streaming only on Netflix in 2016!
Bernthal will portray The Punisher, one of Marvel’s most popular characters. He is a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results.

Awesome news.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo!
ReplyDeleteSo I'm guessing if his portrayal is well recieved he'll get a spin-off then.
THANK YOU MARVEL
THANK YOU NETFLIX
I'm so thrilled. Great news. I really love the Punisher and not to mention Jon.
ReplyDeleteI dig Jon since his sr role in The Class (a show I can't understand why was cancelled, have to pitch it later)
Great news, I know a lot of fans have been hoping to see the Punisher in the MCU and that he would get his own Netflix show in the future which seems much more likely now.
ReplyDeleteThey are pulling the big guns for season 2. I like it.
ReplyDeleteI love this. He's a good actor and I hope it means more Punisher is coming.
ReplyDeleteIt looks more and more likely that the Punisher will be getting his own series as well.
ReplyDeleteWow!!!! This is great.
ReplyDeleteLoved him in TWD, he was my favourite, looking forward to seeing him in this.
ReplyDeleteVerrry cool!
ReplyDeleteI could absolutely see them spinning him off. And maybe he'll be in "The Defenders" as well.
ReplyDeleteI think his show would be after The Defenders. Phase 2 would start with him.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually certain they'll try and spin him off.
ReplyDeleteAfter the rumors last week where his name was mentioned, he's definitely the easiest of the 3 to do on a TV show. Ghost Rider would be too expensive because of the CGI (unless they go for Robbie Reyes) and Blade could potentially have some increasing costs too.
They basically have to spin him off. It would be a travesty if they didn't.
ReplyDeleteYep.
ReplyDeletePlus he goes into my theory that we're going to get the Thunderbolts eventually.
Baron Zemo is in Civil War.
Elektra was already leaked for Daredevil.
Punisher was now confirmed.
They just need another 1-2 people.
I liked him in TWD.Glad to see him play such iconic role here!
ReplyDeleteHated his character in TWD but I have missed him! When is Season 2 premiering?
ReplyDeleteApril 2016 i think.
ReplyDeleteyes, Yes, and YES !!!
ReplyDeleteBingo
ReplyDeleteRumors? What rumors?
ReplyDeleteRumors of shows for phase 2 on Netflix.
ReplyDeleteCODE RED CODE RED PUNISHER IS ENTERING THE MCU!! This just made me even more ridiculously excited for Daredevil S2!!!!
ReplyDeleteDaredevil Season 2 is going to have Bullseye, Elecktra, and now the Punisher. Amazing!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteThe powers that be at Marvel have also been toying with the idea of adding characters like Punisher, Bladeand Ghost Rider, but there are risks with each of those characters. Not only are they darker and more violent, but two of them require supernatural elements in order to tell their stories. The inclusion of these characters could send Netflix over to the goofy side, which is something they’re very afraid of Ghost Rider would also rely on CGI too much for the studio’s taste.
It would also be difficult to incorporate the stories of these characters smoothly. Blade and Punisher are perceived to be rather one-note to carry a series on their own. The heavy level of violence is also perceived to be a risk. They want a “hard PG-13,” instead of an R. And since none of the Defenders actively kill, throwing Punisher into the mix could be a challenge.
It’s far more likely that we’ll see a cameo and backdoor pilot. If it were to go well, like DC did with Firestorm on The Flash this year, it could lead to a new series.
Unexpected. I thought he'll get his own series.
ReplyDeleteHe probably will later down the line.
ReplyDeleteO.O Didn't read about those.
ReplyDeleteThank U for the link!
ReplyDeleteI loved Daredevil and they expanding the verse is a great move. Can't wait to see how where they will go from this point.
Sadly it seems unlikely for this Universe to crossover with ABCs shows. Abc could use the push. Especially with those spin off rumors.
The only crossovers I think we'll get between the Netflix and ABC shows are references and such. Like Crusher Creel appearing in both AOS and Daredevil.
ReplyDeleteWell so now I hope these two will fight.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!! I bet he eventually gets his own series on Netflix too.
ReplyDeleteDaredevil has got to have one of the best comic book TV show casts ever.
A movie cameo is most likely, especially if some alien invasion will happen, again.
ReplyDeleteI would wish for them to acknowledge they share the universe, with a simple scene in JJ mentioning the IM vs Hulk fight or something.
Honestly I hate this 13 episode right away format, I over east myself with the show. An ep pro week works so much better for me.
Great choice, he has the physique and chops to pull that job!
ReplyDeleteAnd glad to see Frank Castle join Daredevil before getting his own show (wich is inevitable)
kinda sounds to me like this will somehow tie into the Civil War
ReplyDeletei really disliked him on TWD but I liked him on Fury and The Wolf of Wall Street so I'm kinda looking forward to this.
ReplyDeleteI think he is a good choice.
ReplyDeleteahh too long... :(
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC!
ReplyDeleteJon Bernthal's a really great actor who's desperately been in need of a role that can also post as a starring vehicle for him as a household name. With the high probability that Punisher would later spin-off into his own show, I'd say this is his glory chance.
Punisher's gonna have a really interesting dynamic entering the MCU. I'm really excited for this. Can't wait!
We should be getting Jessica Jones in roughly October to help tide us over at least :)
ReplyDeleteJust thinking about it...could this have been the role Ryan Phillippe was talking about months ago but things fell through? He mentioned he'd met with Marvel in the last week of April so the timing sorta fits. The role would have probably been cast in May.
ReplyDeleteCool. But shit then they'll agree on anti- registration. Well hopefully Frank's murderousness will piss off Matt.
ReplyDeleteAs a man in a polarizing reboot of Godzilla once said: let them fight. Btw that applies to every Superhero team up movie, show or episode ever.
ReplyDeleteOh, agreed. I was surprised they wanted to do another "Daredevil" season before "The Defenders", but better to strike when the iron's hot, I guess.
ReplyDeleteThis is great. He was fantastic as Shane on the walking dead and I'm sure he'll be amazing as Punisher on Daredevil. The Punisher will make a great addition to the MCU due to his dark brooding Anti-hero ways!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty much what I think will happen.
ReplyDeleteThe 2 will be going after the same criminal (possibly Bullseye) but Frank's methods will tick off Matt. Leading to them squaring off.
Then the later half of the series will introduce more of 'The Hand' (which I assume will culminate in The Defenders).
Well the Daredevil is a pretty dark show so I think the punisher will make a great addition
ReplyDeletecan't wait for the sequel to Godzilla, contrary to popular opinion I liked the reboot as it was essentially exactly like the originals: 30% Godzilla, 70% human drama. It's not like the japanese movies didn't oversaturate the human arcs. In fact some 80s Godzilla movies barely have any Godzilla scenes
ReplyDeleteand yep, I agree. It's a pattern
Huh then we're in agreement since I too liked it.
ReplyDeleteI think it'll work, I'm just not a huge fan of the character he goes too far to me.
ReplyDeletePeople give it a lot of grief because they weren't served the monster flick they expected from the posters.
ReplyDeleteIn fact these guys would've been well served with Emmerichs flick wich heavily featured the creature.
My theory is that the nay-sayers actually liked the '97 movie and just go with the flow. They expected a Transformers-esque sci-fi monster bash.
But this is not what Godzilla ever was about, it was an eerie tale about the effects of modern warfare.
And I'll go on record as someone that grew up on Godzilla movies: I liked the new one as well as the Emmerich one
Interestingly. Never met anyone who liked the old toho ones, the Emmerich one and the 2014 one.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Toho ones for the message they originally sent, the magic I felt as a kid watching horribly dubbed japanese flicks and for making me the film fanatic I am today. You could easily spot the visual effects then and how they were done. So I kinda fell into the "how could I do that" scheme and started shooting my own stuff.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Emmerich one was....a bland action movie featuring a giant monster called Godzilla. It didn't breathe fire and wasn't as tall but I accepted that for story purposes and...I liked it for what it was. Plus the cartoon series that followed was kinda fun (through a kids eyes).
The new one was essentially what the original Toho films were: full of hidden meaning and human tragedy during a hypothetical monster attack. I liked it
Awesome that Punisher will be shown and hopefully get his own show. Not a huge fan of Jon's, he's fine, but I feel he can only do Shane... but that kind of works for the Punisher.
ReplyDeleteTrue, his anti hero ways are sometimes (most of the time) too much
ReplyDeleteI'm sensing a Daredevil vs. Punisher conflict. I like the thought of that.
ReplyDeletePretty much. That and not a huge vengeance kinda guy. It's hard for me to route for a guy who goes around torturing and killing every criminal he can find. It's not juice.
ReplyDeleteLol ten bucks on Matt.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen Jon Bernthal?? ;) But yeah; eventually...
ReplyDeleteYes I've seen the walking dead. Have you seen Charlie Cox? No slouch either.
ReplyDeleteYou dislike the Netflix model? I love it. For serialized dramas there's nothing better.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather it start with Blade. Vampires in the dark street hero corner of the MCU is a must.
ReplyDeleteYeah not my think. I watch the whole thing in 1 week and have 51 weeks to wait. An episode per week is certainly more relaxed. ^^
ReplyDeleteFair point.
ReplyDeleteNice! I like him! And he's not bad to look at!
ReplyDeleteEh... not who I see as Frank, but ok... he's a good actor and that's always a plus.
