Today’s Season 6 finale of Community may have felt like a series finale, but it may not be over for the college comedy at its new home, Yahoo. I hear conversations continue between the Internet giant and Community producer Sony Pictures TV for more episodes. Neither side would comment, thought Yahoo left the door open with the following statement through a spokesperson:
“With the season six finale of Community airing today, we’re continually excited by how much fans are engaging with the series. Now that all episodes are available for binge viewing, stay tuned for how we keep Community delighting its fans.”

After Joel saying that Yahoo paid 2 BILLION for the show and let Dan do as he pleased I'm not too surprised about that
ReplyDeleteLet's hope things work out and we'll have many more seasons of Community to come :D
I'm all in for more Community, but the episode had this vibe of a series finale. I think the movie is its natural end.
ReplyDeleteBut if Harmon and co find a way to make season 7 awesome and they are willing to, then I'm all in for the ride.
Either way I'll be fine: if this is the stopping point, it was an amazing stopping point. If not, yay! More Community to come!
2 billion? I find that hard to believe.
ReplyDeletehe said it on Conan last night, I mean...he's a comedian and all but both Conan and Joel sounded rather serious.
ReplyDeleteIt's not hard to be honest, Microsoft aquired Mojan (and small independant developer consisting of 10 people max) for 2.5 billion last year.
Since they wanted Community to kickstart Yahoo Screen their investement makes sense
I'm generally fond of the idea that every season finale presents itself as a series finale. No seriously, this year many shows did that. The Originals, Arrow, Forever and now Community. In Forevers case this worked since it got cancelled.
ReplyDeleteQuite a few shows could profit from that system.
I agree, besides closing up storylines allows you to go into whole new places with these kinds of shows, it shakes up the dynamics and allow for new ones, allowing for infinite places to go creatively.
ReplyDeletei think a movie might be enough .lets stick to the original plan
ReplyDeleteExactly, shows like TVD suffer from the issue with never closing their arcs and tangling themselves in a web or open storylines that get confusing in the end
ReplyDeleteI just want the movie.
ReplyDeleteI personally don't need a seventh season.
I'm 110% sure they did not pay 2 billion dollars for the show.
ReplyDeleteI almost think there shouldn't be another season. This season's finale was perfect. Just cap it with a movie.
ReplyDeleteBut if there is another season, I will of course watch it!
That's a little different. In Mojang's case, they made a game that spawned a merchandising empire and is played by hundreds of millions. I doubt Yahoo would pay $2 billion for a cancelled show.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I am so happy most shows are done with playing Cancellation Chicken.
ReplyDelete"Not sure if we're getting renewed? Let's do a cliffhanger so crazy the network would be NUTS to cancel us!"
I'm kind of hoping they don't do more episodes. I'm just bored with Community at this point, and Community gives the impression of being bored with itself pretty heavily.
ReplyDeleteNot only that, but the show's essentially ended itself at least half a dozen times. I can't keep dealing with the constant worry of "Will it ever be back for more?!"
I think it's time to say goodbye. Let's just do a Yahoo movie to fulfill the legacy and tie up the remaining plots that this season finale toyed with. An hour long runtime seems appropriate enough.
Mojang are behind one of the most popular games across consoles/PCs and tablets and subsequently are going to be profitable. Community as a TV show is absolutely tiny in comparison to that.
ReplyDeleteI think that's a great idea. Even if it's a guarantee a show will come back for a new season they still should wrap up all their storylines for the season they're currently in and start anew when they return. If nothing else, it'd spare us fans the endless summer torture of wondering who's coming back or who died or who got together or whatever :p.
ReplyDeleteJust make the movie and all will be well...
ReplyDeleteIf they do another season I don't think I will be watching, S6 bored me a whole lot, it had some fun episodes but mostly I find myself not caring any longer. I wish I had stopped after S3.
ReplyDeleteI am okay with either #6seasons #andamovie or a season 7. Though I like "continuity" and "callbacks", so I would love Abed's words of 6 seasons and a movie to become true. I feel like there will be more stories for the characters (even if it is a short movie or a shortened season). But I am now, after six seasons, and that finale also ok if for some reason the creators & the "network" (Yahoo) decide to not do any more.
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting how the s6 finale was mostly about all the possible scenarios of what s7/the future could be like for the group. Interesting insight into the characters minds/writers ideas.
I have to admit that ever since some of the original group members graduated and/or left, it does not feel the same. (and it should not, as things have changed) I am not good with change, but it still has the original "structure/storytelling way" and I still watch the show.
PS. May the (possible) likely s7 or a movie have more stories/episodes for Abed? About his movie/tv-thoughts/projects and other things! He is my favourite. Thanks!
#andnomovie?
ReplyDeleteI wonder how meta a seventh season could be if there is an additional season and not a movie as originally planned.
Total off-topic Mac, but... FALLOUT 4!!!!! XD
ReplyDeleteI know :D
ReplyDeleteThe trailer is so damn awesome :D
And DOGMEAT <3
can't wait for it ^^
They didn't, it was clearly an exaggeration. They probably aren't even allowed to disclose a real amount.
