Another great, solid outing for The CW's Beauty and the Beast, this week, I would say. I really enjoyed this week's episode. There was action, adventure, lessons to be learned and new foes emerged. Heck, we even got an explosion. But of course there were a few things that left me with a squinty, questioning expression and softly whispering the word really, into the night. Hope this holds you over until Thursday!
The Highlights
5. My fandom's collided this week! Yeah, I'm a Royal (and Beasties and Royals should totally be a super fandom, BTW). Starting with this week's episode Alan van Sprang (Reign, Shadow Hunters) began his three episode guest star arc.
4. VinCat learned the importance of making time for each other.
3. A really great superhuman of the week case.
2. Heather is on the way to healing her broken heart (now if only Aaron Keller would just show up to sweep her off her feet).
1. Great soundtrack this week!
The Lowlights
5. While there was a great twist with the case of the week, I was disappointed with the route that was taken.
4. Very little Heather and Cat time (but what we got at the end of the episode almost made up for it, ALMOST) .
3. There is an unrealistic (but satisfying for me) resolution to a recurring character dilemma.
2. Tess' wardrobe is extremely underwhelming for the third week in a row.
1. Cat get's a chance to be sexy but instead she ends up looking like an 1880's schoolmarm in comparison to all the other ladies in the room (I know it's because she had a fight scene and was probably harnessed but still, KK is goregous. When is the last time we saw her really showing off the goods?)
==================================================================================
Well, those are a few things that I loved and a few things that ruffled my feathers. I really enjoyed the action and the case of the week. I'm glad someone remembered that audience needs a little sexy fun time with VinCat.
Please feel free to sound off in the comments about what you loved and what you loathed about this episode.
You know I love ya for reading...
Haven't seen this episode yet - have to wait until Thursday, but from what I've read (the little snippits of info here and there), sounds very interesting and exciting. We're going to have an explosion which I assume is going to be the houseboat. This is all I know about it except the two agents that VinCat meet are really bad guys. Sounds like the intrigue is in the plot. I'll have to bite my nails until Thursday rolls around.
ReplyDeleteI think you will definitely like it!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait. I've been enjoying S3 a lot, and this coming episode sounds even more exciting than the first two. #BATB keeps on getting better and better. Yes Lilith, you did a great job dropping hints, but yet not revealing anything - just enough to make us even more curious. We know something, but really nothing until we see this episode. Thanks for the critique.
ReplyDeleteBATB is getting better and better, great episode. Alan Van Sprang appeared also in "King" opposite Amy Price-Francis. Jay Ryan as usual is fantastic
ReplyDeleteDid you at least like how human the beginning was with Vincat?
ReplyDeleteI really liked this episode in my opinion the best in season 3 so far ! But several beasties didn't like it: too much action and humor and they have the feeling that VinCat lack of passion ! I disagree I loved the VinCat scenes and how normal they are especially Vincent ! The dialogues were better and repetitive like in ep 1&2. But Cat & Tess don't seem to be very effective cops : 2 weeks of investigation and they didn't find out where the bullet came from ! Great to get our kick-ass Cat back !
ReplyDeleteThat beginning with Vincent exhausted was hilarious and so human, and then Vincent and Heather scaring the crap out of each other had me in stitches LOL.
ReplyDeleteSylvrei, totally agree with you about the shoddy police work. This writer has no idea of REAL police procedure, because bloody pillows do NOT stay on the bed, they go into an evidence bag and are carried away. And if they did not check the trajectory of the bullet and found that it went through the tv screen and through the window, then they both need to turn in their badges. One of the weaknesses of this show is that very often logic, reality, common sense, and especially Vincent's powers have to take second place to the plot and the ideas of the writers. And those ideas are pushed through no matter what.
ReplyDeleteFor example: last week's shower scene was funny and silly, but NOT really possible, because Vincent should have heard that it was not Catherine's heartbeat coming from behind the curtain.
Loved this episode - the best of S3 so far. One little gripe about the directing.
ReplyDeleteHow can Stuart Gillard have our graceful Catherine stumble into the
penthouse like that? For me that was NOT funny, just embarrassing!
More later after your full review, we do not want to spoil it too much.
I have to disagree with your Highlights p 3. "A really great superhuman of the week case."
ReplyDeleteSuperhuman that shoots bullets and uses bombs? What's so superhuman about that (even if the shooting had a bit of a twist)?
I liked it because they were basically mirror foils for VinCat, their special powers gave/gives VinCat a run for their money. We haven't really had a female foil for Cat that wasn't a sexual/romantic entanglement of Vincent's.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I was like wait, what?
ReplyDeleteYes, BAMF Cat rocked it this episode. I love that the writers aren't making VinCat's relationship easy and are really focusing on real couple issues. I mean he is a doctor and she is a cop they should be exhausted and then throw planning a wedding in for good measure, tensions should be high. I also agree that Cat and Tess haven't been good at their jobs in forever. Not sure what to make of that.
ReplyDeleteYes, to the fact that this show does love to force feed ideas down the audience's throat no matter how sense it doesn't make in both a real world context or the world they've set up in their OWN universe.
ReplyDeleteI loved Heather this episode. I'm glad they're not sweeping her engagement under the rug.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part actually but of course saving it for the full review.
ReplyDeleteThe only good thing about CW putting BATB on Thursdays is that I basically get to talk and write about BATB all week long, LOL. Y'all keep my sane in between the Canadian and US airing.
ReplyDeleteThe crime of the week was very lame... after 2 weeks of officil investigation they do not realize that agent Thomas was shot from a distance and not by somebody in the room? No one did a check on the "homeland security agents" on 1st place? Lame, lame, lame... and Tess as new captain really doesnt work for me....At least I hope her gardrobe will be changed
ReplyDeleteGreat EPs so far don't blow it
ReplyDeleteWonder if the CW will keep BATB on prime time Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. when S4 is ready to be shown. BATB wasn't one of their favorites and we Beasties had to fight hard to get it renewed although for the life of me, I'll never know why it never became a CW favorite. BATB is one of the best series on the CW. I suppose they have their favorites. I just hope it's kept on a good night and time since it was put through the hurtles in S1 & S2.
ReplyDeleteTess becoming captain is quite a turn-around for the writers. So is calling her smart, since they showed her to be completely unobservant in S1.
ReplyDeleteExample: she and Catherine interviewed JT in the pilot and his photo was hanging on their white board until they solved the case. Later, when JT broke into Evan's lab she did NOT recognize him even though she gave a detailed description to the sketch artist. Even later in 'Heart of Darkness' she asks Catherine who the geek is that is waiting for her. Still no recognition! Huh?
Well, it is not the only inconsequent moment or part in the show... but I am sure people do not watch it because the writing is brilliant and incredibly smart :P
ReplyDeleteOf course, you are right. THAT is not the reason we watch it - and will continue to watch it. We are all BATB addicts here, aren't we?
ReplyDeleteOMG - Lilith - I just saw two new promos for Thursday's Bob & Carol and Vincent and Catherine and they were awesome. I'm going nuts waiting for Thursday to come. You're right - this looks like a fun and very exciting episode.
ReplyDeleteMe too but don't go all conspiracy with her fiance LOL
ReplyDeleteOkay cool
ReplyDeleteYou're right
ReplyDeleteI hope we get moved back to Monday nights at either 8pm or 9pm but still in the summer next year. Next year is when we'll really have to push for another season and get ratings up. My goal is for it to at least become a mid-season show so we can get some new promotional material . Never going to be over how they just airbrushed Vincent's scar and threw a new tagline over it.
ReplyDeleteMonday nights at 8 or 9 isn't a bad night either. Makes it seems like there's less time to wait for each new episode - so I could live with Mondays. As long as we have BATB to look forward to each week, I'm happy.
ReplyDeleteSort of... I am only waiting for their wedding
