OK, here's what we are going to do for this season of Beauty and the Beast. Every Monday you can expect an article about the top 5 things that I loved about the episode and top 5 things that I didn't like about the episode. But every Thursday right after the east coast airing you can come back and check out the full review. Does that sound like a good compromise? Let me know what you think of the plan in the comments section.
Highlights
5. They brought up Vincent's family, specifically his mother. I'd love to know more about his family and I definitely think that we should see his nephew Aaron Keller (Bryan Dechart) come back now that he is exonerated.
4. They remembered to give JT and Vincent some screen time together.
3. By episode's end Cat and Vincent are on the same page.
2. Cat and Heather got some sisterly bonding time in.
1. Jay Ryan's bicep are out on display for a lot of the episode.
Lowlights
5. There were like three Gabe mentions in a row in under a minute.
4. Nothing feels new or fresh about Tess (I believe even her wardrobe is recycled from last season).
3. Vincent seems a little off and gruffer than usual, even with JT.
2. Vincent is still living on that damn houseboat (move in with Cat already, grrr!).
1. There was a puttering and unsure JT at the beginning of this episode. JT Forbes is the heart of the show and if he isn't allowed to shine a lot of his interaction will fall flat (I think this episode proved that). Nobody puts our King Beastie in a corner, am I right?
=================================================================================
Overall, I absolutely loved this episode and my gripes are actually pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. I can't wait until Thursday to publish my review and really get the conversation going about this episode. Until then, you know I love ya for reading.
i wil be here to read all about it :)
ReplyDeleteHey thanks for reading and commenting. I'm so eager to finally be able to talk about this episode and have season 3 kicked off. Grrrr, the wait between Sunday is Thursday is going to be a brutal one every week.
ReplyDeleteI need for Thursday to be here already. I want to be fair but I also want fangirl with my Beasties.
ReplyDeleteThe episode was worth the wait :')
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I'm pumped for this season and beyond.
ReplyDeleteYou sure it was 3 Gabe mentions? I only heard 1 LOL, and thanks for doing this it's really cool of you to do it.
ReplyDeleteDid you want more of a speech during the proposal?
ReplyDeleteOne negative point to start : I think the dialogues were not very good: the same thing was repeated too often ! I did miss the great lines from other episodes.. But it is so great to have them back and it took me one look at VinCat to remind me why I love this show so much ! I loved the episode and can't wait for more ! Can't wait to read your review !
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw it I did but the second time I watched it, I thought the looks and simplicity of the actions was quite perfect. KK and JR still got it, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing too but writers do that for emphasis, especially in a season opener because they are hopeful to find new viewers and perhaps the viewers haven't seen the previous season(s). If you watch a lot of TV, you'll notice that about a lot of shows, especially shows with procedural elements.
ReplyDeleteThey said Gabe two or three times in that one sentence when Cat and Tess were talking in one of the opening scenes. I love SR but I want to put that whole Gabe travesty to rest once and for all.
ReplyDeleteOh wow that scene was just overlapping with both of them on the phone that i didn't really hear them.
ReplyDeleteYeah they do!!
ReplyDeleteYeah that was an odd choice for a scene but it's kind of one of those running gags you notice after a billion rewatches. Almost every single time someone is on a cellphone something odd is going on or something bad is about to happen.
ReplyDeleteTrue that
ReplyDeleteGreat points but if you read the next episode spill they will move in together. You missed the proposal off the list....must admit yes Vincent in a singlet top will working very well better then that robe from last season.
ReplyDeleteLOL "roared"
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a solid opener that set up this season well ~ mainly VinCat moving forward together is EVERYTHING squeeee ♥ and whatever worse things are out there better be truly badass! BUT yes there are a few minor issues that didn't make this one of my favorite episodes from the get-go ~ unlike Pilot 101 and especially 201 which blew me away. One thing bugging me is the opening sequence ~ why do Vincent and Cat still have to go through all that to see each other when he's not a fugitive anymore? And more importantly ~ why is the ripping of clothes one-sided gah!!! But I would much rather have this kind of slow burner that grows on me on further viewing (which it did!) than absolutely love it then go WTF for the rest of the season. I kind of agree with you that Jay seemed a little off although he was smoking hot and looks even better than he did in S2 how is that possible even?? *SWOON*. Grumbles that he said Cat at least twice? Noooo it must always be Catherine. Babe?? Hmm... I can live with that. Cat better not go Vin though! Overall I know this is already a much better season than the last ~ only thing I don't care for is JTnT~ their relationship is way too convenient and boring and not what I want to watch at all on BatB, They deserve better SLs. I know I'm in the minority on that but JMO.
ReplyDeleteOh my God i thought it was only me that loved, loved, LOVED that Vincent's the only one to call Catherine "Catherine" and it PISSED me off that he called her "Cat".
ReplyDeleteHahaa I think you will find that MOST of us prefer Catherine! And I love Catherine 3.0 so much! She's baaaack AMEN!
ReplyDeleteRE: The Cat Thing, t's a Brad Kern thing. He didn't get the memo when he took over the reigns. Tweet Stu G.or Catherine Ashton, I'm sure they'll relay the message.
ReplyDeleteI didn't put the proposal in the article because I thought it would be too spoilery. But it was one of my fave moments of all time on BATB.
ReplyDeleteHow have people watched the episode, it doesn't air until Thursday
ReplyDeleteCanadian viewers did and international viewers online pirated. if you are in the u.s. please watch live on Thursday :)
ReplyDeleteI loved everything about this episode - I agree about the repetitive lines, but yes it is a season opener so it does need to be a bit repetitive as a reminder (it's been a year) plus they may be trying to attract new viewers. the proposal is easily my fav scene of all times. and their performances (both jr and kk) were flawless, just perfect
ReplyDeleteThank you I can't wait to read you, I like this episode too and I loved the scenes on the roof
ReplyDeleteHuh?
ReplyDeleteThanks Lilith for your lovely and witty first comments. All in all an excellent episode. I can finally exhale. The 5 best things for me are Jay, Jay, Jay, Jay and Jay. And the worst are Cath, Tess, JT, Heather and Heather.
ReplyDeleteVincent is being dragged kicking and resisting into the classic role of the reluctant hero and savior. And does it with believable anxiety and remorse. Never for a moment revealing that he knows full well it is just so that Cath can shine in her role as The Beast Hunter. Unlike Vincent, Cath's protests that she really doesn't want to be a beast hunter are openly disingenuous. Tess is just amazingly obnoxious with her "poor me, my boyfriend is being difficult". JT is unempathical in pressing Vincent to be a beast. Heather is just annoyingly dumb.
Thanks for the quick review - looking forward to the full one, of course. Please go into details. You know the beasties read every snippet they can get their hands on. This was a solid season opener, but not spectacular. Like E@N said 101 and 201 were much much better. Of course, having had to wait for so many months, our expectations were sky-high and that is not easy for any writer to meet. Loved everything that you said you loved. I have a little peeve though: Catherine is technically lying to Vincent by not telling him about secretly meeting those agents - and have we not spend many episodes in S1 with Catherine complaining about having to lie to her partner, her family, etc. and not liking it and now she thinks its okay to lie to the love of her life? And her explanation as to why she is doing it blew me away: she was protecting Vincent! Okay, have we not spent a miserable S2 listening to Catherine telling all and sundry 'ad nauseam' that SHE does not want to be protected? Sometimes I ask myself if Brad Kern actually hates the character of Catherine! He sure does not allow her much room to grow.
ReplyDeleteSorry but I disagree totally with you Jt is meant to be a friend and not in a romantic way. He and Tess just don't fit well together . No chemistry there. Should stick to the comedy end of it. Maybe he and Heather should be paired off . They should have brought Joe back for Tess. Anyways this show is called Beauty and the Beast . Not Beauty and the Beast and friends. The show should be mostly about Vincat's romance and drama. Loved the Vincat moments alone together and loved the action in this ep.
ReplyDeleteNO! no bringing back that adulterer!!! how can you even say that?! they should get rid of Catherine's partner, i just don't want her in the show!!!
ReplyDeleteI also wondered about that opening scene and would be happy if someone could clarify.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that I could think of was if that scene belonged somewhere in the middle of the season when maybe Vincent goes into hiding again and we are slowly moving to that reveal as the season unfolds.
Maybe, although it didn't feel like it was "in medias-res" though
ReplyDelete;)
ReplyDeleteNina should be in the show but not as a love interest for AB. there is no chemistry there at all. Keep her as the badass cop. She deserves to be there.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about everything except Catherine and Vincent. I just have no idea where you get the fact that she wants to shine. She only wants to shine with him sort of sounds like you think she is only in this for her own glory. If that was the case he would know that because he knows everything about her and can tell everything she feels. So why would he propose to her if that was the case? You need to watch this episode again. The love is and has always been there with those two. The only flaw in this show is they seem to be trying to push JT & T on us. Too much time was spent on their no chemistry relationship.
ReplyDeleteno I wanted more time together after the proposal. Sort of looks like S2 again when there were always interruptions. This one there was no interruption but not enough time allotted for that scene.
ReplyDeleteAdultery tuned me off those characters
ReplyDeleteExcept she's NOT a badass cop, i don't usually i don't say there's no chemistry because well it's always there LOL. But in THIS instance they have NO chemistry, she could talk to a cardboard and there'd still be NO chemistry.
ReplyDeleteMay be it is their idea of foreplay???Just think of that very sexy interaction that went on right after that chase ...
ReplyDeleteTotally LOL
ReplyDeleteI believe it was only once, and that was even more than enough..
ReplyDeleteLoved loved your list, I think you were dead on.
ReplyDelete-Vincent didn't seem quite himself did he? I kept begging for one little smile ;)
-i too loved the mom reference, I too love hearing about the geller clan, though I doubt it'll turn into any further story.
-thank you for jt and Vincent scenes! Though nothing will top the conversation from 2x12 (no more crying Vincent!), I'm glad in this episode they at least tried to come close and remind us why these two are so special...someone needs to ground vin and it can't always be cat, she sometimes needs grounding herself. I just wish sometimes jt would remember just how! Important he is
-as for cat, she is still somewhat hypocritical but at least in this episode they did a better job explaining why she's hypocritical
Welcome back batb-I can't wait to see where this leads!
