The SpoilerTV 2015 Episode Competition - Day 8 - Round 1: Polls 29-32

2015 Episode Competition Agent Carter American Horror Story Arrow Daredevil Glee How to Get Away With Murder Penny Dreadful Pretty Little LiarsDAY 8! (Results from yesterday can be found here.)
The rules are as follows:
1. Two episodes go head to head for 24 hours. The episode that emerges as winner will go through to the next round.
2. Vote for your favourite episode, and tell us what you voted for.
3. Tell others about the competition! Social media is your best friend in this competition if you want your favourite episode to win.
4. Be respectful. This is a competition, but be friendly. Let's not have any abuse directed at any person, fandom or show, as we've had on occasion in the past.
We begin today with Arrow's 'The Fallen' - my personal least favourite episode in this competition - as it faces Daredevil's 'Cut Man', an episode that featured one of the most brilliant fight sequences you'll see. Next up, Glee's series finale takes on American Horror Story's fourth season finale, 'Curtain Call'. Agent Carter's 'Snafu' is up against How to Get Away With Murder's shocking first season finale, before we finish off the first round with Penny Dreadful's 'The Nightcomers' facing Pretty Little Liars' fifth season finale.
The draw:
Don’t forget to share the post; the more people vote, the more chance your episode has of winning!

Daredevil and Penny Dreadful
ReplyDeleteJust HTGAWM.
ReplyDeleteDaredevil, Agent Carter and Penny Dreadful today.
ReplyDeleteArrow, Agent Carter and Penny Dreadful. The only tough choice was Arrow over Daredevil for me.
ReplyDeleteArrow, AHS, HTGAWM and PLL for me :)
ReplyDelete- I love The Fallen and I am very glad it made it to the competition. My vote goes for it for default since I have yet to watch Daredevil but I like voting for it anyway
ReplyDelete- American Horror Story by default
- Hate this one. I love, love Agent Carter and I would like to support it in the competition but I cannot vote against this episode of How to Get Away with Murder, so Murder it is
- Nothing for me on the last one.
Got to be Daredevil (really disliked The Fallen) and Agent Carter today.
ReplyDeleteHTGAWM!!!! Such an amazing finale
ReplyDeletealso Glee
Bradley, you loved that arrow episode, didn't you :D ;)
ReplyDeleteI voted for Arrow! It was a tremendous episode of Daredevil but I can't go against my Arrowheart. I liked the Merlyn twist (it became awful later after Ollie returned) it suited the moment and Merlyn's villainous character. The Nyssa scenes were strong and the fight was great. I love you Daredevil but this was one of the better Arrow eps this season.
ReplyDeleteI hated the Freak Show finale, I mean it was okay but I wanted much more. So I'm not voting.
It was really had but I went with HTGAWM. I didn't saw the Rebecca twist coming. Sorry A Carter it was a great episode but couldn't go against HTGAWM
And PLL as I didn't watch Penny.
I just cannot go with arrow because i hated that episode. So nothing for the first one
ReplyDeleteHow have you not seen Daredevil yet lol?
ReplyDeleteEasy decision in the first poll. Cut Man was a great episode and I absolutely hated The Fallen. Third poll is a tricky one, because I really enjoyed both shows, but I went with HTGAWM in the end.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget, round two begins tomorrow. I'll also have some quickfire analysis on what has transpired in the competition so far.
I've still only seen three episodes lol
ReplyDeleteToo much to watch lol. And since I didn't watch it right when it came to join discussions and all that, there is no urgency now. It's kind of indifferent whether I watch it today or in December. But I will do it this summer, don't worry.
ReplyDeleteRound 2 already has a match I am hating. Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me against Sympathy for the De Vil.
ReplyDeleteI know lol. You need to cut down down on some of those shows haha. At least you will watch it in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI think I've managed to avoid any tough battles in round 2. Only one that may have been a challenge is Hardhome vs. Conquer, but Hardhome was on a different level to Conquer, so it's pretty easy in the end.
ReplyDelete1) Nothing - Dropped Arrow and I do watch Daredevil but I found episodes 2-5 largely boring so I'm not voting for it.
ReplyDelete2) American Horror Story "Curtain Call" - Don't watch Glee and that episode of AHS was one of the few in season 4 that I liked.
3) Agent Carter "Snafu" - I didn't like the HTGAWM finale.
4) Penny Dreadful "The Nightcomers" - Loved this episode, doesn't even come close to PLL for me.
I thought PLL would hammer PD because it has more fans but looks like it's in with a good chance :)
Would you be able to send me an email (address in my above bio)? Need a little help with some ratings stuff.
ReplyDeleteHa, you won't catch me voting for it unless it's in a worst episode competition ;)
ReplyDeleteMy votes:
ReplyDelete1.) None
2.) none
3.) How to get away with murder by default because I've never seen Agent Carter
4.) Never seen Penny Dreadful so I went with Pretty little liars
The Arrow episode is the Fallen and I get the feeling you're talking about another episode.
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
ReplyDeleteIt's somewhat surprising to see someone like The Walking Dead more than Game of Thrones generally speaking.
ReplyDeleteI really loved Conquer - though I did prefer No Sanctuary too - but I don't even think that would have made me vote against Hardhome.
ReplyDeleteWe may find out in the third round ;)
Season 5 was probably the best overall yeah. I thought 3A was awesome too and I loved Season 4 as well despite its untraditional structure, but yes, overall Season 5 was probably the best. My favorite episode is still Killer Within though.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Both are absolutely superb episodes.
ReplyDeleteYou never know, No Sanctuary could get knocked out by Outlander and you may not have to choose between the two.
Arrow - Agent Carter - Pll
ReplyDeleteYes, that wouldn't surprise me. In a way it would make my life way easier. I watch Outlander too but in no way I consider it to be on the same level as the other two shows, so that would be a very easy choice for me to make it in both rounds
ReplyDeleteI loved Season 3 and 4a was good, but I didn't really like 4b. It did have some stand out episodes, but I thought it really weakened season 4 as a whole. I have too many favorite episodes lol.
ReplyDeleteOuuuuu! I thought they meant The Fall, the ms finale. I tried to forget about that episode.
ReplyDeleteYes Koky sadly this will be a vote change. DD's episode was amazing and this not even close.
Thank U for being just U. ^^
Wasn't the midseason finale The Climb?
ReplyDeleteYes I could list a lot of favorite episodes too. Season 5 alone has a lot of them actually lol. I understand people's issues with 4B but I didn't really mind it. I think it was because I assumed the entire time that they would be reunited by the time the season finale came that it didn't bother me to spend more time with them that way. And it gave me episodes like Still and, of course, The Grove, which are truly some of my favorites. The biggest problem I have with it is that the character that the developed the most during that arc and that they had going through the biggest evolution, Beth, was killed off in Season 5 so we didn't have the chance to see the effects of said evolution when she merged with the group again. Nevertheless ,it still gave us the very underrated Slabtown this year, which I really enjoyed. And now I am ranting lol
ReplyDeleteI loved Slabtown as well and it's really underrated.
ReplyDeleteYeah something like that. I went in a completely different direction. And I call myself an Arrow fan! #facepalm
ReplyDeleteArrow and Agent Carter for me.
ReplyDeleteDaredevil
ReplyDeleteAHS
Agent Carter
None
I decided that i will binge watch Pretty little liars over the summer. It really seems like my type of show! Drama-mystery-thriller
ReplyDeleteSometimes we find ways to agree! lol
ReplyDeletePoll 1: Arrow by default
ReplyDeletePoll 2: AHS, Glee post-Season 3 has been a mess.
Poll 3: HTGAWM because the coin landed on heads.
Poll 4: Penny Dreadful by default.
Penny Dreadful.
ReplyDeleteI won't check the results.
Daredevil, How to... Penny. And i bet all of them will loose. Maybe not HTGAWM but the rest... *sighs*
ReplyDeleteLol
ReplyDeleteJust HTGAWM for me today.
ReplyDeletePenny is winning ATM
ReplyDeleteI really hate myself sometimes. Why can't I keep my mouth shut :(
ReplyDeletePenny Dreadful & Daredevil <3 <3 <3
ReplyDeleteDaredevil and Agent Carter today.
ReplyDeleteIt's still early but other than Arrow-Daredevil, these polls are all shockingly close together today! I did not expect Agent Carter or Penny Dreadful to put up such a fight, nor did I know that Glee was still popular enough for this!
ReplyDeleteBut my vote won't affect the voting overall, Arrow is destroying DD.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to jinx it but Arrow shouldn't have too many problems winning here judging by how it is so far.
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief. I was feeling like I betrayed Arrow lol
ReplyDeleteYAAAY! Go Arrow! Go!
ReplyDeleteWell that will jinx it ;)
ReplyDeleteGlee I thought would do OK, same with Agent Carter. Surprising that Penny Dreadful is actually winning over PLL.
Btw Still no Arrow news. So freaking annoyed.
ReplyDeleteI'll take a page out of your book and try to be a glass half full person. No news, good news. Maybe the news are too big to announce and they are waiting for SDCC since there won't be a promo and they need something big to unveil in the panel.
ReplyDeleteDaredevil-Cut Man.
ReplyDeleteHTWAWM-Kill Me,Kill Me,Kill Me.
Yeah good approach, not that I'm surrised looking from whom U took it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteStill no casting information? I assume if they are going for some bigger names they'll maybe go for specific actor(s).
I liked TvLine's suggestion that Dylan McDermott could play Damien, would be a good choice.
Come on murder!!!!
ReplyDeleteI believe it is HTGAWM- it is all my fault
ReplyDeleteEdited. Both the mid-season & Season finale were amazing!
ReplyDeleteDaredevil, especially Cut Man with that insane fight sequence at the end, beats any episode of Season 3 of Arrow, no questions asked. Passed the second one as I don't watch either show, and voted for Agent Carter and Penny Dreadful in the other polls.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I cannot wait what they have in stock for season 2! The writers clearly know what they are doing and i am really looking forward to finding out what who killed rebecca and when the keating 5 find out that frank killed lila
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree about Daredevil. The action sequence was insane!
ReplyDeleteArrow, American Horror Story, How To Get Away With Murder, and Pretty Little Liars for me.
ReplyDeleteI predicted Sam's killer & Rebecca's death correctly.I did not that twist coming regarding Lila's murderer.I hope my prediction is wrong & i'm surprised once again!
ReplyDeleteMe too! So far though, I have been surprised by everything! My guess is that that Eggs 911 has sth to do with it
ReplyDeleteI'm usually pretty good with this type of predictions. The fact i have no freakin' clue who this Eggs 911 is even remotely leaves no doubt to me it is one hell of a show! All is wait is really torturous.Thank god for summer shows :)
ReplyDeleteI am planning on binge watching PLL. Do you think it is an okay show?
ReplyDeleteBut yes HTGAWM is my favorite show on the air since revenge is gone!
First 2 seasons were awesome.Season 3 & 4 were average.Season 5 was boring.Season 6 has been great so far.I like watching it TBH.
ReplyDeleteDang. How To Get Away With Murder vs. Agent Carter? That's harsh!
ReplyDeleteVoted for Murder and AHS season finale.
Ugh, The Fallen, one of Arrow's most uneven episodes. At times brilliant, at times attrocious.
ReplyDeleteI had to go with Daredevil because it was simply outstanding and all around balanced. "The Fallen" had some really strong, awesome moments that could have made it a strong contender, but the weak spots on the episodes are just beyond awful
I hated "The fallen" Overall and once again do not understand how it made it.
ReplyDeleteHmm okay, well i am looking forward! But first i must watch AoS season 2 and GOT season 5
ReplyDeleteI still don't understand how This episode made it and Canaries didn't.It was an amazing episode IMO.
ReplyDeleteAoS improved so much from Season 1,i'm sure you'll love it.Who is your fav character so far on this show? Mine-May & Fitz.
ReplyDeleteOr Uprising, that one was pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteThere were many great choices for Arrow: "Brave and The Bold", "The Climb", "Public Enemy" (!!!!), "Broken Arrow", and somehow this one makes it, which was among the worst of the season and broke the momentum of the previously great "Broken Arrow".
If it was up to me "Public Enemy" would have cut it. "The Fallen" IMO has no place in this competition
Everyone, lol. There is not a character i dislike. Even ward but mainly because he is hot!
ReplyDeleteBrett is too hot to handle.Oof! Hahahaha...
ReplyDeletePublic Enemy was a very good episode. It was so thrilling till the end.I also liked Broken Arrow & The Return.
ReplyDeleteYes arrow real fan will chooae this over daredevil
ReplyDeleteSame here, I imagine Olicity shippers pushed hard on it, and a few non shippers gave some extra help, but mainly the Olicity bunch.
ReplyDeleteFrom the whole third season of Arrow, this is the most undeserved episode along with "Draw Back Your Bow". Season 3 had some really strong episodes that should have made it, like "Public Enemy", so I eyerolled when I saw this one making it. I was like: "Of course the one where Oliver and Felicity have sex will make it. Because shippers!" I honestly believed there is people who just concentrated on that and forgot everything else that went wrong with that episode. And there's a few people who just liked it for whatever reason, which I have no issue with. But I just can picture the shippers pushing this one and I'm like "well, could I have expected something else?"Same here, I imagine Olicity shippers pushed hard on it, and a few non shippers gave some extra help, but mainly the Olicity bunch.
Yeah, good times. From "The Fallen" onwards I felt the season went out on a whimper whereas I expected a bang after "Broken Arrow". I can't begin to describe how disappointed I was by the final 5 episodes (though Al-Sa Him was a decent episode). I hope season 4 makes a major revamp and brings Arrow back to form
ReplyDeleteI mean really!! Those eyes and those arms!
ReplyDeleteSadly i'm tuning out next season.I'll continue with the The Flash & add LoT but no more Arrow for me.One more Olicity moment and i''ll break something or lose it.
ReplyDeleteSome of these men are so damn attractive now-a-days,it's really hard to keep focus on what they're actually saying or doing on-screen.LOL!
ReplyDeleteI loved broken arrow and public enemy!! Those were emotional and brilliant. I have no idea why they did not make it. In stead the two worst episodes made it
ReplyDeleteI have no trouble with Olicity per se, but rather the treatment of it: if Oliver and Felicity are going to be a couple, fine by me, but no more angst, please, the show just doesn't know how to handle it and this season they reduced Felicity to a mere crybaby whereas she was loveable, useful and resourceful back on season 1 and 2. I hope that, now that they are together, they can end with the idiocy of "will they/won't they" and actually bring back Felicity Smoke back to glory; she is a strong character that deserves a better treatment than the one she got by the end of season 3
ReplyDeleteWe have the exact same taste!!!!!!! My favorite was thr return because it felt like season 1. Broken arrow and public enemy were brilliant as well
ReplyDeleteYep,at least amongst worst 5 episodes this season IMO.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know how much I agree with you.
ReplyDelete"My name is Oliver Queen" is decent at beast, but when you compare it to "Sacrifice" and "Unthinkable" it just falls short on so many levels.
And "The Fallen".... well, that's self explanatory.
Ya,that's one major problem i had this season.Felicity was so strong these past seasons and this season, she just fell apart.Emily is an amazing actress,i think she deserves better.
ReplyDeleteShe does. And she was actually given good material when Oliver was pressumed dead, she killed it on "Left Behind" and "Midnight City", but then Oliver returned and the fan pandering started
ReplyDeleteI agree once again!!
ReplyDeleteThis shipping stuff is really hurting all the shows now-a-days so much!
ReplyDeleteAlso the complaining of the shipping its getting annoying also.
ReplyDeleteIt is, but I think the biggest problem is that writers just don't know how to handle it. If they want to bring 2 characters together they have to do it in a way that comes off natural not force 2 people together. By the end of the season it seemed like Oliver and Felicity became a couple because the script demanded it.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's sad, what happened to the couples that just came to be on a natural and organic process? Why don't we get more Peter and Olivia or Ben and Leslie? Why do the writers have to make 2 characters essentially declare hatred to one each other and then stuck them together until they kiss/have sex/become a couple? I really don't understand it, it just really sucks.
I root for couples, but for beliavable, well portrayed couples with characters that show that they care for each other and don't hurt each other neither physically nor psychologically.
Another Olicity fan,i take it?
ReplyDeleteMy complaint is not so much targetted to shipping as they way it is treated; the way couples are coming together on some TV shows is just unreal and annoying. I want real couples on TV!
ReplyDeleteI root for TV couples as I have always have, but I just can't stand when the writers make 2 characters essentially hurt each other all the time and have an essentially toxic relationship and that's what is happening.
One of the couples I have shipped is Peter and Olivia from Fringe because it was a slow burn well developed, unlike most of what can be seen nowadays.
So my issue is not the shipping itself but the way the writers treat it and the reaction people have towards these toxic relationships
Very well said!
ReplyDeleteNot really
ReplyDeleteAnother relationship that i love-Castle & Beckett.It's so natural & organic!
ReplyDeletei like them sometimes. But when comment sections is full of how certain fandom reacts. And people are making fun of it it annoys me. When people focus more on complaining on the shippers then the plot or what is happening in the episode.
ReplyDeleteHaven't watched Castle so I can't judge there, but I'll take your word for it :)
ReplyDeleteIf it is natural & organic I have no trouble with it, in fact, I may ship it myself!
Have you seen the comment sections for Arrow on here? Sometimes the complaining on the account of shippers takes over.
ReplyDeleteI get what you're saying but in case of this show,i really can't help it.BTW,i wasn't making fun of it but just pointing out something that made me give up on this show,a show i loved till season 2.
ReplyDeleteOnly exception for me-CaptainSwan.Don't judge me.LOL!
ReplyDeleteAt least people are bothered to comment about it.I wish my fav shows got that many comments per thread!Sigh!
ReplyDeleteWell, I know many shipper that don't pay attention on the plot at all, they are just like "hey look! Character A hooked up with character B! BEST EPISODE EVER!" And I'm just like "Riiiight,"
ReplyDeleteThe plot of The Fallen is convoluted at best for me, with lines that are cheesy and way too weird to work. When Oliver is shown torn with Thea on the brink of death the show works at its best, but when Oliver tells Felicity that he loves her for drugging him and trying to sneak him out of Nanda Parbat, that line came out so weirdly that I was embarrased by the way Amell delivered it,
The Fallen has so many issues and I could fill a lot of space talking about them. My comment went on because I know a lot of people were just saying "yay! Olicity happened!" and they didn't take a closer look at what was going on. Or maybe some people did, I did say that there are those who truly liked The Fallen and that's just taste. But I saw the "what did you think of The Fallen" threat so I know I'm not lying when I say those shippers are out there.
I have nothing against shippers, but I don't like it when they overlook plot just because two characters hooked up
Ha, no judge. I actually like Hook and Emma together, but that's just me.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like about them is that this season they have worked out this really sweet, tender relationship in which they just try to support each other and bring out the better sides of them. It's refreshing considering there are many TV couples that spend most of their times insulting each other, hitting each other, and making their partners believe they are useless and/or helpless.
Hook always cheers on Emma and he tries to make her understand the better qualities of her and what makes her strong, and in return Emma tries to make Hook understand that he has become a better man and that he shouldn't be haunted by his past. I just find that very sweet and endearing, and I like how the show has developed it :)
It seems it is happening in this very thread.
ReplyDeleteI would like to note that it wasn't my intention xD.
Same picks for me :).
ReplyDeleteIt's like you're speaking my mind. This is eactly how i feel about them. It's so genuine & pure!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? It just makes you feel good.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I swear you could make a comment about what Oliver had for breakfast and someone would work in how much they hate Olicity or how they don't watch anymore. Quite frankly my dear...
ReplyDeleteThere's also a few threads where a couple of people completely dominate it arguing with each other, and often not even on topic.
For me, the complete obliteration of logic in the season finale puts it on par with The Fallen as the joint worst episode of the season (I have more frustrations with the finale having hoped it'd be somewhat improved whereas I knew I'd hate The Fallen).
ReplyDelete1. Daredevil
ReplyDelete2. NA - Didn't watch Glee & didn't like this season of AHS.
3. NA - Dropped HTGAWM after a couple of episodes. Watched Agent Carter but didn't really love it.
4. NA - Never watched PLL. Dropped Penny Dreadful.
Well the Lance family saga of s3 almost made me give up on the show. And it was all for nothing in the end.
ReplyDeleteI can't speak to "Arrow", but I agree with your rant about people getting together in general. Romance is a part of life so it's only natural that some shows will bring it in-there's nothing wrong with characters falling in love and getting together. Those can be beautiful stories in their own right.
ReplyDeleteBut I think you're right that the way shows put couples together is the most important thing. The problem isn't the romance itself, it's the endless "will they/won't they" being dragged out or, when they do put the people together, they can't let the couple be happy, they have to put in a bunch of relationship drama to spice things up. And yes, relationships have their ups and downs, but there's other types of conflict a couple can deal with in a story together, stuff that only strengthens their bond and allows us to see them supporting each other and fighting for each other. If I'm rooting for a pairing to get together on TV, when they finally do, I don't want to watch them fight and break up and get together again and again. I want to watch them working together as a couple, I want to see the friendship they'd built up transforming into a lovely romance, and I want to see them supporting and bringing out the best in each other.
And we can see all that while still balancing that storyline out with whatever else is going on on a show, too, with the other characters. The romance doesn't have to dominate (unless it's a show where the two main leads get together a la "Castle" or "Bones" or something, in which case, well, comes with the territory), it can be on an equal field with all the other stuff going on.
I can understand that, the finale is not the most logical episode the show has done (not even close), but it was nowhere near as idiotic as "The Fallen" was on its lowest points, so while watching it I was like "well, at least it's not that bad", and there were some moments I did like, such as Thea showing up in Roy's costume and some others there and there. So I didn't hate it, but I found it amazingly underwhelming for a season finale
ReplyDeleteWell yeah but that is not even what I disliked about season 3. I do not care about the romance part at all to be Honest
ReplyDeleteI certainly did hate it. By the point that Felicity saved Oliver in the suit, I just gave up caring. Even Thea showing up in the suit seemed a little out of nowhere, though I let it slide since they did the exact same with Roy last year and I got on board with it then - can't be hypocritical.
ReplyDeleteI'm a very casual watcher of Arrow so it's a little unfair and I mean no disrespect, but I did happen to catch this episode with friends and when Thea flew through the air.... (I wanted her to be crazy when she came out), but that lasted half a second and the way it was done was horrible. Very slowly watching Daredevil but did see Cut Man & enjoyed it so my vote goes there. & of course the lovely, twisty HTGAWM Finale
ReplyDeleteThe episodes9Daredevil) get better as you go on,especially Episode 4-10 were awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have many issues with the show in S3. From the weak-ass villain to why any of the characters did anything. You could see it was all for plot reasons and to get the new spin-off ready. Oliver being sacrificed so the new masked vigilantes could be in the spotlight. From that Atom suit cutting Arrows budget where the CGI was so bad. And by S3 i have enough of the Lance drama being present every single season. Just get that family into therapy.
ReplyDeleteYou just described the way I wish shows would handle relationships, that's how it should be, but there are far too many that are stuck on the endless "will they/won't they" logic and that breaks shows for me, or at least it cripples them.
ReplyDeleteI have nothing against drama brought out of relationships, it happens, but I don't like when it becomes essentially nonsense, when two characters are essentially mutilating each other on a weakly basis, and then they break up, they get back together, and break up again just because writers are seemingly unaware of how to write for an ongoing relationship with its ups and downs.
The treatment of a couple is a delicate process, and it has to be treated carefuly. People get together and break up, but what usually happens after a break up? People drift. So there are a couple of narrative choices to make here:
1-The couple is ended but they learn to coexist, developing a platonic relationship --> Hard, but manageable and it happens.
2-The couple splits and they don't see each other for a long time/ never again --> Most cases, the most realistic scenario.
3-They get back together --> And here we get into mostly toxic territory: unless the break up was caused by minnor issues that could be fixed there is no way it is going to work again. If you put back together a plate after it broke you see the cracks very clearly and it's even easier to break. Same thing happens with the on/off relationships, which 95% of the times end up in very toxic outcomes. This is what most shows should avoid, since it is really hard, if it no impossible, to pull off well.
Daredevil & Agent Carter
ReplyDeleteI've heard only great things about Daredevil so I am looking forward to it. I want to like Arrow & The Flash so much but every time I try and pick them up/rewatch I'm disappointed . Enjoyed the DD first episode probably more than anything I've seen from the other two. I'm just a really bad binge watcher haha so it's taking me forever.
ReplyDeleteWell, I can't blame you, the final 5 episodes of Arrow I found to be a huge disappointment. I'm only sticking with the show out of hope season 4 will fix it. I have seen show recover from downfalls, so I hope this is the case.
ReplyDeleteAlso, being a Flash fan also helps me sticking with Arrow, but I have to say that, as a whole, season 3 is pretty much a failure compared to the previous ones.
Arrow, American horror story , agent Carter & pll
ReplyDeleteFinal four for me; I thought Broken Arrow was excellent. At this point, I am only sticking with the show as I run a fansite for it.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, season 3 was a failure.
And i'm a severe binge watcher.I watched 6 seasons of LOST,6 seasons of Supernatural,10 Seasons of Smallville,8 seasons of Grey's Anatomy & 5 seasons of Breaking Bad back to back.
ReplyDeleteI personally loved Broken Arrow.
ReplyDeleteWoops! Miscounted xD. Yeah, I meant 4, "Broken Arrow" was awesome!
ReplyDeleteSeason 3 had a couple of brilliant episodes, many mediocre ones, and some were just outright bad. All together, you get a pretty disappointing season that doesn't even fares well against season 1
Yep. And you mentioned the "declare hatred" thing-I can't get into that, either, when it comes to romance on shows, but so often that's how it seems to go. A girl falls for a bad boy, they get together and break up and have their drama, and she finds herself stuck in an endless cycle and complaining and you're sitting there thinking, "He's a bad boy, what the hell did you expect?" I've seen friends of mine go through protracted breakups with jerks and it was exhausting and frustrating. I don't really want to sit through it in a TV show.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be really nice to see more stories where the potential couple in question were close friends before getting together, where the guy is actually a decent, good-hearted person to begin with instead of a bad boy who "just needs to be redeemed by love", and the woman can be in a relationship without letting her life and personality only revolve around the relationship.
Ha, lol.
ReplyDeleteSeason 1 was no season 2, but it was solid. Took a while to get going and got there eventually - though it showed clear signs of trying to find its footing. Season 3 was a mess that just fell apart.
Lost was my only successful binge. IT WAS SO GOOD. I actually binged it twice haha
ReplyDeleteThat's why I love Olivia and Peter so much in Fringe; they developed this close friendship that turned into something more, but Olivia was never defined by Peter nor Peter by Olivia; they have their individuality in check and each one of them evolved by themselves and as a couples, and the show portrayed their ups and downs fairly amazingly.
ReplyDeleteIt is one of the best developed couples on TV in my opinion. More shows should follow its lead.
Awesome :). I've heard so many good things about that show, sounds like that's just another reason to add to the list of what makes it so good. I'd be all for more shows doing stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteSeason 3 was all build up for "Public Enemy" and what happened onwards. If Arrow had kept the momentum from "Public Enemy" and "Broken Arrow" then season 3 would have been a drag, but not a mess, and we could be more enthisiastic about season 4. But after "The Fallen" everything started to fall apart and there was no excuse for how bad the show's quality had gone, even when there are a couple of stellar episodes in the midst of season 3
ReplyDeleteFringe starts off slow on season 1 (enjoyable, but not amazing), and then it just becomes excellent in the middle of season 2. It is to this day my favorite TV show ever made. I highly recommend it; it has some flaws, but overall it is so inspired and so well developed that you just end up overlooking them, you don't care about some bumps in the ride, because as a whole it ends up awesome. At least that's how I see it :)
ReplyDeleteIt's on number 2 of my All time classics Show list.Number one is Breaking Bad.
ReplyDeleteDaredevil (it literally pains me to see such quality lose against a CW show), nothing as I dislike both choices, Agent Carter, and Penny Dreadful!
ReplyDeleteMy votes:
ReplyDelete1. Arrow - The Fallen (This was a solid set-up for the final episodes of the season.)
2. N/A
3. Agent Carter - Snafu (Atwell was wonderful in this episode.)
4. Penny Dreadful - The Nightcomers (I really enjoyed finding out about Vanessa's back story, and Patti Lupone gave a stellar guest starring performance as the Cut-wife.)
I just have to say this. Speaking on behalf of myself as a hard core Olicity shipper (as everyone around here knows), when I voted for the Fallen I didn't vote for it because it was the episode when "Oliver and Felicity hooked up". I voted for the episode because it's Arrow. Arrow always gets my vote. I would even vote for episodes 11, 12 or 13 and I HATED everything about those dreadful episodes.
ReplyDeleteWhen I remember episode 20 I remember when Stephen Amell gave one of his strongest performances when Thea was hurt. I remember when Oliver made the ultimate sacrifice to save his sister. I remember when I genuinely rooted for Malcolm to win a fight and was very impressed with his skills. I remember when Diggle and Maseo had a very strong scene. I remember when Diggle and Felicity went to NP with Oliver because they are a family and they always have each other's back. I remember when Diggle and Thea broke my heart when they said goodbye to Oliver, it's worse because Thea didn't even know she was saying goodbye to her brother. I remember when Felicity was very strong and stood up to Ra's (I don't care if people thought it was too much, I didn't think so), and when she was ordering Malcolm around.
From an Olicity shipper point of view, I remember that it was the episode when Felicity finally said she loves Oliver. When Oliver opened up to Felicity and told her something about his past and that something was Thea related which made the scene more powerful (again kudos to Stephen). I remember how heartbroken I was when Oliver and Felicity said goodbye. I remember it as the episode when we finally got a full Olicity theme (I'm a music geek so that was a big deal for me). I remember Felicity trying everything in her powers to save the man she loves, and Oliver wasn't mad at her because he knew she did that to save him.
Shall I go on or is that enough? Am I still considered a member of the Olicity shippers bunch who voted because of course it was the episode when Olicity finally happened?
Always the way in these things...
ReplyDeleteI voted for the tv show not the episode..........I ignore the episode and just choose the tv show........and GA is cooler character than DD
ReplyDeleteJESUS HAROLD CHRIST.
ReplyDeleteYou're killing me with putting Arrow and Daredevil against each other. I'm just voting for Daredevil because Arrow looks like it's killing DD at the moment, so I'll just give the generous vote because both episodes were fantastic. I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE season three....really showed me why Arrow is one of the best shows on television.
And besides this....also voting for Penny Dreadful. Don't care about the other shows, but I would like to see who wins between the overrated stereotype high school show vs the overrated stereotype horror show. Yah, that's right....just like Schuylar Croom, I said it.
That's generally what I do. Arrow is my favourite show so I automatically choose it over any other show regardless of the episode. In that case there wasn't much of a choice because I didn't watch DD (and I'm not going to).
ReplyDeleteIf two shows I like equally are up against each other, that's when I chose the best episode imo.
I am certainly no Olicity shipper and I also voted for the episode and I really enjoy the episode. I do not mind the Olicity stuff when it isn't overly prominent on the show like in the finale and I think it is normal and healthy for these shows that the hero has a love interest, which obviously requires some storyline and plot evolution. So while I found those scenes nice, they weren't by no means the highlight of the episode. People who claim I am an Olicity shipper are 100% wrong and people who claim I voted for the episode because Olicity happened are 100% wrong, simple as that.
ReplyDeleteAnd hey I am with you in my love for Arrow, glad to see someone sticking up for the show too!
I feel like that's been happening to me a lot this year! I always have polls in which I watch both and then polls in which I watch none lol. Go figure!
ReplyDeleteAmen to that lol
ReplyDeleteArrow and Glee for me. I seriously need to start watching Daredevil. The time has come.
ReplyDeleteThis is the most level-headed comment I've read in a while. RESPECT!
ReplyDeleteNot being a shipper doesn't mean going around spreading hate and shaming people for rooting for a romantic story. Arrow is an action show and it'll always be an action show, that doesn't mean it's not allowed to have a romantic story. The show is also about saving a man's soul, a hero's origin story. Every relationship in that hero's life is important; they all connect him to his humanity and guide him to his destiny. Everyone is important to Oliver's journey, family, friends, partners and the woman he loves. I'm emotionally invested in all those relationships, that's what makes me connect to the characters and root for them.
You can always count on me to defend Arrow. I'm sticking with my show no matter what.
I was scrolling down the comments section and it is unbelievable to me how much this has become about attacking the opposing show instead of propping up the show you want to move forward. I think it is kind of sad because it really didn't used to be this way. The amount of hate Arrow is getting here is ridiculous in my opinion. I am sure Daredevil is worth it (I personally haven't watched it) but why some people who want it to move forward prefer to downgrade Arrow instead of trying to make the case for Daredevil is insane to me. There are even people going on the anti-vote attitude now.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the rant, but it had to be said.
Yep. I think we should start these contests with "May the rankings be always in your favor."
ReplyDeleteThanks. This thread became ridiculous. I just published a larger comment above but it is insane that people have resorted to attacking Arrow instead of sticking up for Daredevil. Since when that's the way things happen around here?
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you've said that despite being an action show, the romantic part of it is important. It's not something that I actively look forward to and care for but I know that if it wasn't there, I would feel like it was missing, because as far as I am ware, Oliver Queen is still a human being and has no celibacy vote - in fact, the romantic part is important to address the whole issue of him still being human, which in the end was mostly what Season 3 was about.
There are many times in which I think Arrow has done completely foolish things this year that made me roll my eyes and be severely disliking them. Some of them were related with the romantic parts (like giving it way too much proeminence in the finale up to the point of having Felicity suiting up) and some of them weren't (The whole Malcolm thing was contrived all season long and it took them getting to the finale for Oliver to say what I thought all along).
People can chose to accept the flaws and stick with the show because they think the good parts still outweigh them or realize that the flaws are too much for them and leave. Both are fair options. Sticking with it only to bicker about it all the time is a... dubious option at best.
I for one love my show and I am very happy and proud to declare Arrow as one of my favorite shows.
That's always how it is for me, even in the one I run. That's how people know I don't manipulate the rankings. I get screwed by them as much as everyone else.
ReplyDeleteEverybody knows I'm strictly anti-shipper (Dean/Baby the exception) but I hope you don't see me post that level of disrespect. If you do, feel free to call me on it. Just because it's not my ice cream sundae, doesn't mean it shouldn't be someone else's.
ReplyDeleteNice rant and well said. I'm scrolling down through now and am only half done.
ReplyDeleteI didn't scroll down I just voted and got out of here, but reading your rant right now. (Well said btw) Now I don't even want to bother.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I think that is for the best. And thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteSo do I, I don't have the energy for it. (Exhausted. Long day). And you're welcome. Welp! Time to go to another thread. Laters. = )
ReplyDeleteCoin toss - always a valid voting option. I do random number generator myself when it's too close.
ReplyDeleteA real fan can choose another episode if they like the other episode better. It's insulting to say that real fans can't vote their own choice. Every show has bad episodes and if someone thinks this is one of them that does not make them any less of a fan.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Thank you! Reading those comments (and I didn't even read all of them) made me really sad. The thread became the "let's attack Arrow and those crazy shippers", instead of "let's talk about why we love DD more than Arrow". And when you want to talk about something, don't generalize. Just because we enjoy romantic plots doesn't mean we don't like other stories. I don't watch Arrow only for the romance. If I did I wouldn't have made it past the Pilot.
ReplyDeleteHear, hear. The amount of hatred on the Arrow threads lately is very sad. If you think the show has become this awful then stop watching. If you still think the good parts are good enough for you to keep watching then great. Focus on those parts. Talk about what you loved. Criticize what you didn't love and give ideas about how the show can improve. Don't put down others so you would look good. It doesn't make you sound more sophisticated that you don't care about silly romantic plots. Insulting and belittling others makes you look bitter and disrespectful at best.
ReplyDeleteJust because someone votes against something doesn't make their vote invalid. People vote agaisnt things all the time - political candidates, sporting teams, and yes, internet polls. It's natural. Sometimes you express your opinion by what you don't pick as much as by what you do pick and that's certainly fine too. When we get to the Favorite Show competition, it is likely that I will be voting against shows I don't like as much as I vote for shows I do. If someone is up in arms about a plot point or screwing with character development, or killing off a beloved character (I believe people did that with Grey's this round) or whatever, they have the right to express it by voting for whatever's running against it. I promise you, when season 8 finished I voted against Supernatural in every contest I saw because I hated what Jeremy Carver had done to my baby.
ReplyDeleteI can't speak about the anti-shipping comments here because I skimmed through a little of it and then skipped most. I'm beyond over Arrow and its writing and its shipping and its fandom sniping to be honest. Still that doesn't mean that people can be called less than fans or called out for their voting choice just because they choose to show their displeasure by voting against it.
if you think about it it is this year BATB hate.....bashing after bashing.....it probably win the entire tournament
ReplyDeleteI rather die a arrow fan than become the villain!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I respect your right to vote any way you want and I'm not trying to dissuade you at all, but I do think it is odd that people are voting for episodes they don't like because they like the show. For me that is where the Favorite Show contest comes into play while this is the Best Episode contest. For me, this is why the two contests are separate. Otherwise why run the same contest twice? I love The 100 but I'm not voting for its finale. I thought it was the poorest episode of the whole season. (Well that and the runaway gorilla nonsense.) Believe me though I am certainly voting for The 100 when August comes and we're determining the Favorite Show.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, this only applies to Arrow because it's my favourite show. Even if I hated some episodes, when I remember them I remember the few scenes that I loved. For example, I absolutely hated episode 13 but when I remember it I don't remember the scenes I hated or made me cringe; I remember the scene when Oliver finally told Thea he was the Arrow and her reaction to it. I remember them bonding and having several heartwarming scenes. That's what I took away from the episode. I hated most of the episode but it had some of my favourite scenes of the season so I can't condemn the entire episode. That's what I meant. Arrow frustrates me at times but the good still outweigh the bad for me.
ReplyDeleteIf I can't think of one single thing I liked in an episode of another show, I don't vote at all (like what I did with GA). If I love both shows equally then I vote for the episode I loved the most.
You think? That would be very cool.
ReplyDeleteThis is well said and true. The sniping in this fandom has gotten well out of control. I took his rant to be more about people hoping Arrow fails because of the shipping. I could be wrong, but that's the way I took it. Either way, it's ridiculous and why I love reading my shows happy fans. (Last Ship, Justified..I'm talking about you.)
ReplyDeleteI don't wish fan sniping on any fandom. For me anytime I see hundreds of comments appear on an article, especially in a short amount of time, I am leery. It usually means bickering. If there's one particular comment that spins off a ton of other comments, I skim for key words or sometimes certain commentors. If any of them show up, then I skip the rest of that part of the thread and move on to the next conversation. I learned in the Supernatural fandom that it made me a happier person.
ReplyDeleteI'm just happy that The Last Ship gave me so much to be happy about. I'll gladly spend more time in those threads.
I look forward more to the favorite tv show/character.......I guess it won't happen until early July
ReplyDeleteC'mon HTGAWM lost¿?. Let me sob a litte. in the other hand im surprised PD is winning over PLL. and look how close is Glee from AHS. Both Ryan shows. Next eyar will be fun Im sure SC will ahve a spot in the poll
ReplyDeleteYay go arrow. Am watching daredevil now but I just can't get into it. Hopefully the other marvel tv shows are more fun.
ReplyDeleteI am very happy for you. I know how excited you must be. That must take some of the sting of Justified being over away. Well that and a satisfying conclusion. My dad has never read the books but he liked the characters and action of Justified. If it is a similar setup, then I'll definitely get him the season 1 DVD's to try. He tries not to watch anything but sports live these days although I did convince him to watch The Last Ship premiere since he liked season 1.
ReplyDeleteNominations for the Character Cup will start next week. The Favorite Show competition wil start in August.
ReplyDeleteIt start after the end of episode cup? Like july 1 or 2
ReplyDeleteArrow.... - the fallen
ReplyDeleteDouble Marvel for me today with Daredevil and Agent Carter.
ReplyDeleteArrow
ReplyDeleteI'm so shocked Penny Dreadful is still in the lead! I had no idea the show had such a big following on the site :)
ReplyDeleteOmabin, we do get to voice our opinions. We were discussing what we did not like about arrow this season. Some People just did not like it and everyone needs to accept that. We did Name the episodes we loved though as well. I for one, did not vote at all. Not for daredevil either
ReplyDeleteI wasn't upset because people are voting against Arrow. I was upset because of the comments. They weren't even about the show, just attacking a specific group of fans. It was completely uncalled for.
ReplyDeleteWhile what you are saying is perfectly true for "real life", my comment was mostly related with the fact that Spoiler TV used to be kind of safe heaven mostly focused on expressing our love towards shows. Personally, I find it off putting to enter a thread and see my shows being attacked so much, and that is a feeling I dislike and that I didn't used to have much when coming around here. Maybe we need hate threads or something that can be safe havens to express dislikes like that lol. In all seriousness, it is not that I want everyone to like everyone all the time but I find comments of "How did this episode even make it, it is so horrible" to be totally unnecessary since they have zero value added, are a simple manifestation that people do not understand their opinion is the least popular (despite the often self righteous attitude that comes along with these comments), and will, by definition, leave more people off put with them than those that agree with them.
ReplyDeleteI guess my main point is that I think it is totally fair that one expresses a dislike for a show if directly asked about it or if it comes in conversation or whatever, but to go out of the way to start a post to bash a show is... non Spoiler TV like. And I feel it takes most of the fun out of the otherwise fun and friendly competition.
I just posted a long response to Dhane above so I am just copying lol. Sorry about it but I am lazy to formulate my points again! And by the way, my comments really aren't directed at anyone in particular, just at the general mood of the thread:

Now I feel bad because I wrote about it.
ReplyDeleteI honestly didn't intend for anyone to feel bad, but I was rather voicing the issues I have at Arrow's episode... I think I got a bit carried away and for that I should and will apologize.
I'm honestly sorry I started a thread below that made someone feel bad :S. I was honestly disappointed by the last 4 episodes of Arrow and seeing the episode getting in the competition as opposed to the ones I deemed stronger brought it back and I posted without thinking twice, which I think was a mistake.
However, there is an interesting discussion there that came from the issues we had with Arrow, but maybe the place for that is the "What did you think?" thread instead the episode competition.
I'll have that in mind and I'll try to be more careful with the way I write about some of the episodes on this contest. I think you made a very important point to be considered here; spoilerTV is a place for fun, not for hate. I don't think anyone intended to make anyone feel bad, but the lesson here is to be more careful with the way we write about stuff, especially when the comments are fairly negative
All good then :). I think you are absolutely right about keeping things fun and polite on this contest, disappointment over shows should go on other threads
ReplyDeleteThanks ;)
ReplyDeleteWhen I first came to SpoilerTV 5 years ago, it was to vote for Supernatural in the Best Show contest. I stayed to defend my show over and over again from people who had never seen it but still had definite opinions on it. Most of the time it was pointed; some of the time it was downright nasty and actually ended with me being stalked on Twitter by someone who hated that I had the nerve to think that Supernatural was better than LOST and to combat his hate-filled ranting with details and level-headed discussion. That's not typical of SpoilerTV but it does happen.
ReplyDeleteGenerally I find SpoilerTV to be a positive place but I would hate for anyone to think that they could not be honest about their feelings for a show or an episode because that's just as bad. I hate websites where when you dare to criticize something in an episode, even minor things, you are promptly flamed as a hater and shamed into thinking that real fans never speak ill of their shows. That's simply not true and it can be as bullying as sites like TVbtN that actively encourage flame wars.
I don't agree that people can't talk about how they feel about an episode unless they are directly asked. This is a contest that asks you to judge episodes so that makes the good and the bad in them fair game in the conversation. When Patrick James makes the Character Cup again, I'm going to say why I am voting against him because that's exactly what my vote will be (unless he's running against House at which time I will explain why I can't stand either character.) When you ask someone to chose one thing over another, both sides of the coin are fair game for the conversation. Hating something doesn't need a unique thread. Now if people were talking about how much they hated an episode that wasn't in the running or didn't have a connection to any episode in the polls, then I would agree but this episode was one being voted on.
While I did not read most of the conversation here and I am sure that it did indeed get out of hand, it didn't seem like what I read was flaming the show but expressing dislike of the episode and the direction the writers took the show. That's fair game when the show has episodes being voted on. I complained far and wide when Carter ruined my favorite show and if the thread concerned Supernatural, I had every right to do so. So do the people who are unhappy about Arrow now and even if an opinion is not the most popular that doesn't mean people don't have the right to express it.
I agree that unhappy fans sometimes take the fun out of competitions, but that's life. I also agree that bashing and running does add zero to the conversation. However people who follow up their dislike on having the episode even in the contest by pointing out specific things they hated do add to the conversation, albeit not the conversation you want to have. I have no problem with anyone saying they hate a character, episode, or show provided that isn't the end of the conversation. I've had great conversations with Patrick Jayne fans even if I detest the character. In fact, disagreeing about an episode has been the basis of some of the most fulfilling and deep discussions I've ever had here.
I don't mean that people have the right to troll or to purposely try to pick a fight by baiting others. That's a totally different situation with different motives, but I don't believe that's what happened here (at least what I read of it. I tend skip out of heavily commented conversations here once I read the word shipping. It's not a good use of my time, although it may be for others.). I'm sorry that the comments made you upset and I hope that you added to the conversation by adding your contrary opinion. Sometimes that's all it takes to turn a rant into a discussion again and that's what this site is all about - conversation about TV from the fans who are passionate about it, for better or worse, whether positive or negative.
See I don't think this is the right approach either. Not the apology for someone feeling bad, because that is very big of you. I just don't think that not being honest about how you feel about an episode makes for good discussion etiher. Everyone should be able to share what they think about an episode, whether good or bad, as long as it sticks to criticizing the show and doesn't become a personal argument. If we all have to say happy, positive things it makes the discussion a sham. The whole reason to have these competitions (besides page views) is to keep the conversation going. Perhaps instead of censoring ourselves and others, we should all just be a little bit more careful about the tone of our conversation. Everyone's opinion is valid and I don't think people should feel that they have to restrict those opinions to just one part of the site when there's so much awesome discussion to be had.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on how fast I can tally the nominations and if we need playoff polls to determine who's in. The actual voting will not start until this competition is completely ended.
ReplyDeleteI think it's more about being polite; being able to point out the kinks and flaws of shows without getting too driven by anger
ReplyDeleteI agree that tone is everything.
ReplyDeleteYep, I think the tone of my comments were a bit too harsh, so I apologized for that. It's important to be careful about how you express yourself; the content is not only defined by what's writen, but also by the way it was writen, by the tone and the way you express it
ReplyDelete
