The SpoilerTV 2015 Episode Competition - Day 16 - Semi-Finals

Jul 1, 2015

Updated: Also - make sure you go and get your nominations in for the Character Cup!

DAY 16! (Results from yesterday can be found here.)

Hey all,

Yesterday's polls were pretty incredible, with each battle having at least 6,000 votes cast. Outlander's 'To Random a Man's Soul' vs. Person of Interest's 'YHWH' had over 11,000 votes, so thanks to everyone who voted in those polls. The job isn't done yet though, as we have the semi-finals today! Remember, every vote counts and your vote could be the difference!

Yesterday saw Arrow's third season finale suffer a thrashing at the hands of Outlander's 'The Wedding', while the recently formed monster Starz show's aforementioned 'To Random a Man's Soul' was defeated by Person of Interest's fourth season finale. The CBS drama then defeated Castle's seventh season finale before Agent Carter's 'Snafu' came out on top in a very close tie with The 100's second season finale. I never expected Agent Carter to get this far in the competition, and though it's got an incredibly difficult task today (and not to underestimate it once again), if the Marvel show does fall at the penultimate hurdle, the show and its fans can be hugely proud of how well the show has done.

The rules are as follows:
1. Two episodes go head to head for 24 hours. The episode that emerges as winner will go through to the next round.
2. Vote for your favourite episode, and tell us what you voted for.
3. Tell others about the competition! Social media is your best friend in this competition if you want your favourite episode to win.
4. Be respectful. This is a competition, but be friendly. Let's not have any abuse directed at any person, fandom or show, as we've had on occasion in the past.

Don't forget to vote in this poll regarding the final, if you haven't already.

The draw:

Don’t forget to share the post; the more people vote, the more chance your episode has of winning!

Check back tomorrow for the final!

POI fanbase is just.. wow. Congrats :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. I will support Person of interest because of that one scene i saw! And also because i will start watching it next week!!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I don't watch POI, Outlander or Agent Carter. This competition is over for me :(

    ReplyDelete
  6. Person of Interest x 2. Let's get them both to the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Outlander wins so many polls, and I think it should lose. Voted for POI x2

    ReplyDelete
  12. I watch all these shows but none compete with Person of Interest. Come on everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  13. "quite possibly the best the show has ever done" - SpoilerTV ;)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I forgot that one lol

    ReplyDelete
  15. Was going to put that in. :P

    ReplyDelete
  16. PERSON OF INTEREST ALL THE WAY.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Easily POI *2!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am Happy about that, actually. I Do Not trink Those episodes that were nominated deserve to be here. But that is just me

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think we might actually have POI vs POI in the finale!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. My votes:

I voted "Yes - Show them to me!" on that poll.

    1. Outlander - The Wedding (Sorry to Person of Interest)
    2. Agent Carter - Snafu (Sorry to Person of Interest again)

    ReplyDelete
  21. you should put Oulander vs Outlander that will be fun to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It is what is is. Sometimes the better shows just don't get enough votes. No way is Outlander better than Arrow and I haven't ever seen the former.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I guess the POI only finale is a sure thing. I know what episode will get my vote :D

    ReplyDelete
  24. The two episodes that were nominated for arrow were terrible IMO

    ReplyDelete
  25. I cannot wait to watch when i am that far

    ReplyDelete
  26. I haven't seen Outlander but I know it has a lot of fans. That being said, I'm also convinced some votes were more of an anti-Arrow than pro-Outlander.

  27. Goodbye Revenge, ∞x∞June 30, 2015 at 10:51 PM

Voted for Person of Interest twice today just like yesterday!

    ReplyDelete
  28. You don't have to keep commenting about how you dislike the season/series ya know, lol. Besides, you already replied to the same guy with your own feelings.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You could be right on the latter.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What i meant is that There were some brilliant episodes this season that were not nominated

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's really sad. The episodes were great. They don't deserve the hate they got.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I won't ever get tired of saying this : POI's episode 'If-Then-Else' is a masterpiece. Not since Ozymandias of Breaking Bad have I loved an episode of TV this much.

As for YHWH, it is an epic episode with stunning revelations and a great conclusion to an amazing season.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The hate, imo, comes from those two episodes being pretty Felicity/Olicity heavy. Which is sad. Do people not realize that romance is just as powerful in the comic books?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Now, this is how you canvass for the candidate(s) you're voting for. ;) :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I did Not hate the episodes because of olicity Though. I for one Do Not mind olicity

    ReplyDelete
  36. I can't help it, but a part of me just wants to see Outlander out of the race now because it eliminated Arrow, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Voted for POI twice. Happy day~

    ReplyDelete
  38. 1) Person of Interest - If-Then-Else. I LOVED The Wedding but I can't vote against my nomination.
    2) Person of Interest - YHWH

    ReplyDelete
  39. YHWH vs. The Wedding - what would you go for?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Though i hate seeing the 100 knocked out, i adore seeing peggy up there. Have we ever had such a dark horse doing this in the competition? Congrata to peggy, i think it is a big winner as bradley said!

    Today:
    - Easily POI on the first. One of my favorite episodes of the entire series. Like I said yesterday, i like outlander but the wedding episode is not even one one of my favorites.
    - I am throwing a sympathy vote for Peggy here since POI will so easily win anyway. I love both episodes though.

    ReplyDelete
  41. As someone who doesn't mind the Olicity factor then, may I ask how come you hated "The Fallen" and/or "My Name Is Oliver Queen"?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Certainly haven't had such a dark horse doing so well in the Episode Competition before. Series Competition - probably, but not this.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Outlander and Person of Interest!

    ReplyDelete
  44. The POI fanbase is huge

    ReplyDelete
  45. I honestly have no idea. They are acting like it's the first romantic story in the history of the show. Maybe it was heavily felt, but that's because the star of the show was one half of the couple and that relationship was important for the character development. Also they should be glad he's no longer brooding, and the series won't be as dark as it was in season 3. He's becoming more like the GA from the comic books.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am glad You asked :) the fallen:

My eyes almost fell out when thea jumped out of that water like some kind of witch from salem. Arrow is not a horror show nor is it a soap opera!!! Besides i just could Not get into oliver being Ra's

    My name is oliver queen:

Very underwhelming compared to past seasons! No cliffhanger, no big OMG moments, that big fight was an epic fail. IT did have some good moments, but Overall it was hugely boring

    ReplyDelete
  47. That's just as tough to be honest but I would probably go for The Wedding.

The Person of Interest finale was really good - I mean seriously good - but I The Wedding itself in the episode of Outlander was such a big moment in the show and it was stunning.

    ReplyDelete
  48. ...and have you heard the soundtrack?!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTHRHMqMo9Y

    2×POI

    ReplyDelete
  49. OUTRAGEOUS!!! Sympathy vote? What is this chicanery? Do you throw in a sympathy vote in real world elections?

    :P ;) :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm nervous about this round, but yesterday was so fun that I'm just happy for the POI community, and to be part of it. We've made a great showing, and at least one person is going to start watching because of that. So here's to all of you! /sappiness

    ReplyDelete
  51. Easiest choice

    YHWH and If-Then-Else
    #personofInterest

I love AC and voted for them last round but not this time.
Sorry, kiss kiss to you too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Agent Carter has my full support!
    "Snafu" is a great episode!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Outlander & Agent Carter by default.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Such a truly amazing scene. (FYI - You only need to paste the YouTube video link, not the embed code, for it to appear here)

    ReplyDelete
  55. It looks like it is very possible we'll see POI vs POI in the next round. If so, which episode should win?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah, I looked it up since it didn't seem right. Thanks, though!

    ReplyDelete
  57. What an amazing scene!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. If-Then-Else for me. Truly a phenomenal episode - one of the best and most innovative I've ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  59. well the favorite character cup is coming that has a chance for arrow character Oliver Queen to go far

    ReplyDelete
  60. Arrow has had its horror moments in the past. I recommend re-watching S2's "Blind Spot" where there's a pretty good jump scare when Sebastian "Brother" Blood sneaks into his mother's room while wearing the mask when he kills her. No, Arrow is not mean to be a horror show or a soap opera, but there's nothing wrong with having jump scares, imo, or even bringing in a level of romance or what not especially when comic books has always had a level of romance in this already....some of the best romance are in comic books. And Oliver possibly becoming the next Ra's al Ghul was more on the lines of the philosophy of S3's story of Ollie's identity crisis more than actually being Ra's al Ghul, even. I knew this was never going to be the case as even Batman never truly became Ra's al Ghul himself.

And I thought the finale had its fair share of moment. Cliffhanger wise, you had the explosion of Palmer Industries(which is Atom finally shrinking), you had Ollie handing the mantle down to Thea and you had Malcolm being the new Ra's al Ghul as well as even Ollie and Felicity going to who knows. Add that with the flashbacks of Ollie boarding a ship and this finale had way more cliffhangers than both finales combined. I think how standalone this episode also felt at times was its big 'OMG' moment because of how Ollie left Starling City. I also felt the big fight was a nice parallel to the fight seen in "The Climb" too. Ollie only won because he wasn't The Arrow and he wasn't this version of Oliver Queen he's been trying to be/not be for the last three years too. The final battle against Ra's al Ghul was a crucial step into becoming Green Arrow, imo.

But again, this is all my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Person of Interest and Agent Carter. I don't think AC is going further, though. I am proud to have nominated it and is greatly impress with how far it went. Not it term of quality but in term of popularity.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Seriously shocked that people want to see the results live.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Agreed. I still say that people will start to bash Laurel Lance's character if Ollie/Laurel becomes a thing down the line as if people want Ollie to be single or in their heads they only see themselves dating Oliver Queen, lol.

Honestly, I don't mind Felicity being Ollie's girl either as it would be a nice take if Green Arrow and Black Canary don't become an item in this series since they're always going back and forth in the comics anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I voted for POI If-Then-Else and YHWH.
The last round vs Outlander was a tough one but POI fans did a great job, so let's do it again fellows!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Could You guys write spoiler over the POI scenes You post, please :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Voting for Agent Carter and against Person of Interest. A finale with 3 competing episodes of Person of Interest is of little interest to anyone outside that fandom. Here's hoping either Outlander or Agent Carter keeps that from happening.

    ReplyDelete
  67. If-then-else. Nothing can top that episode.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Once an episode airs, it's free game. If you want to avoid knowing what happens, I would suggest not reading this thread. People shouldn't have to label something that has already aired as a spoiler.

    ReplyDelete
  69. If-Then-Else without question. It was an absolute masterpiece.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Unless people just want to see everything Arrow lose, lol. I keed. I think there's a lot more positive than negative when it came to how strong Ollie's arc was in S3. It's the culmination of three seasons worth of character development that brings Ollie to the point in the season finale. He returned to Starling trying to save his city by using The List, then trying to be less of a killer of more of a symbol for good which then gave him an identity crisis because in striving to do good he lost his essence of being Oliver Queen, although he was never truly THAT Oliver Queen that people like Felicity and Diggle knew.

    ReplyDelete
  71. What was season 2 finale's cliffhanger exactly? Even season 1 finale wasn't that open-ended. The earthquake happened, Tommy died, that's why they did a 5-months time jump. There was nothing left unresolved that needed immediate continuation in the season 2 premiere.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I hope not because that would be really dull for a lot of people. I love the fandom's passion, but I wish these two episodes had met earlier in the contest.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Tomáš PetrĂkJune 30, 2015 at 11:24 PM

You should start then. POI, you won't regret.

    ReplyDelete
  74. How can you know if Outlander is or is not better than those Arrow episodes if you haven't seen them? I haven't watched beyond the first half of Outlander but it does many, many things right. I'm not saying Arrow doesn't as well but you can't judge better without seeing both.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Same here; my issues with the episodes lies on the execution of it, not the concept

    ReplyDelete
  76. Person of Interest x 2.
But I'm also good with Agent Carter winning the second poll. Love both episodes :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yah, I may have to agree. The finale was amazing, no doubt, but it was literally POI's version of an AU episode.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Wow, a Person of Interest final, did not see that coming, but totally deserved. When I heard about Amy Acker during season 3, I instantly got on it - binged watched the first two seasons and a half and haven't looked back since

    ReplyDelete
  79. If it's anything like last year, Oliver doesn't stand a chance. It will be Felicity representing the Arrow fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Outlander. And Agent Carter just to support this show.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Very true. Maybe that's something I'll consider for next year's comp. I am a little surprised at how POI has just destroyed everything in its path this year though; I expected other shows like Outlander, Arrow etc to put up more of a fight in the latter stages.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well, for one, I was insinuating the SHOWS, and not the specific episodes with that one statement of mine. And two, what I have seen of Outlander and not the shows, the aspect of what Arrow is will always appease to me more. I love Poldark too but I will always go for the more comic book and sci-fi stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I think it's a good idea that all show nominations are in the same bracket just to keep this from happening. That said, congrats to the PoI fans who have done a great job here.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Will Person of Interest win both. Stay tuned to find out!

    ReplyDelete
  85. everyoneissleepingJune 30, 2015 at 11:33 PM

Person of Interest :-) I'm so glad that both POI episodes made it this far.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Man, that 'Father' and the subsequent 'convo' of the Machine with Harold gets me every time. One of the most epic scenes of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  87. So, let me get this straight: you're voting against a spectacular episode of POI simply to spice up the competition? No offense, but that seems really petty to me.

    ReplyDelete
  88. All the POI love in the comment section makes me ridiculous happy. Can't wait for the favorite character cup.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2t4-cwSB7U

    ReplyDelete
  89. If Then Else hands down! Not even a contest for me.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Ahah no, but those aren't nearly as meaningful as these of course - would you think electing the politicians is more important? :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. Ok, since everyone is so riled up POI wise... Favorite POI episodes from the series. Go!

Some of mine (I am bad with these things, so I am probably overlooking some, but these had a mark on me):
    - Witness
    - Firewall
    - Prisoner's Dilemma
    - Endagame
    - The Crossing
    - 2Ď€R
    - The Devil's Share (this might be my favorite episode of the entire series, maybe tied with If-Then-Else)
    - Deux Ex Machina
    . The Cold War
    - If-Then-Else
    - Terra Incognita
    - Asylum
    - YHWH

    ReplyDelete
  92. Amy Acker is so awesome

    ReplyDelete
  93. Root is an amazing character. Amy Acker deserves all the awards. I really hope she'll get nominated for EMMY this year.

    ReplyDelete
  94. In Outlander's defense, it did put up a huge fight yesterday. The total votes was insane.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Person of Interest x2

    ReplyDelete
  96. You got me there. *grumbelgrumblegrumble*

    ReplyDelete
  97. Many Happy Returns
    Firewall
    Relevance
    God Mode
    Endgame
    The Crossing
    The Devil's Share (obviously)
    Deus Ex Machina
    Prophets
    The Cold War
    If-Then-Else (duh)
    Terra Incognita
    YHWH

    ReplyDelete
  98. I've been saying that for awhile lol.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I've been saying that for awhile haha.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Relevance is a great episode too.

    ReplyDelete
  101. so its looking like its going to be POI vs POI in final

    ReplyDelete
  102. The poll just started. Outlander's going to put up a great fight. I wouldn't be so sure both POI episodes will make it...

    ReplyDelete
  103. Agree with your choices. Also Bad Code, M.I.A, Relevance, God Mode, Prophets

    ReplyDelete
  104. 1) If-Then-Else
    2) The Devil's Share
    3) Relevance
    4) Endgame
    5) Prophets - Asylum
    6) YHWH
    7) Zero Day + God Mode
    8) Firewall + The Contingency + Bad Code

And honestly, there are so many that I can't remember them all.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Person of Interest x2!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Wonderful video from an amazing vidder.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Nice trick putting multiple of them in your "top 8". There are indeed so many episodes to choose from, it's insane

    ReplyDelete
  108. It was. Then again, it did get beaten by 1.6k votes. I at least expected it to be closer than that.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I tried to do them in order of preferance but after the top 3 they're all equal to me to be honest. "Relevance" will always have a special place in my heart because it's Shaw's episode. And If-Then-Else, well, for everything that was in this episode and because of Shaw's exit. As for The Devil's Share, it was perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  110. One that I personally adore is Prisoner's Dilemma (and 2Ď€R to a smaller extent). I think people forget because the stakes seem ridiculously higher nowadays on the show but John being caught was a HUGE thing back then! And Carter deciding she was going in to handle things and then the literal game theory moment that went on with the other prisoners was so amazing. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and Cavitzel and Taraji P. Henson killed it. I have a very special place for that one.

This being said, I think The Devil's Share is still my favorite installment of the series and I still think it is blasphemy that Kevin Chapman was ignored by all the awards for that episode, the Simmons-Fusco scene gives me chills everytme I watch it.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I voted for Outlander - The Wedding!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Holy crap the votes POI got yesterday was phenomenal!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Yeah maybe. The volume was so big that it is hard to tell what was "expected" imo lol

    ReplyDelete
  114. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLCRg3M1Xmg

    ReplyDelete
  115. True lol. It certainly has been huge.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Great scene! Culmination of years of growth on Fusco's part.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Relevance - one of my all time favorite POI episodes. Fell in love with Shaw by the time her first scene ended.

    ReplyDelete
  118. This time the battle will be close.

    ReplyDelete
  119. If-Then-Else is one of the best I've ever watched ever. Of course I voted for that.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I voted for If-Then-Else :) Good luck to both episodes!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Speaking of my girl Amy and my favourite character of all time Root, I compiled a masterpost of all the critical praise Amy has received for her acting chops over the course of POI. If everyone could RT/fave this tweet to get her attention, I would be much obliged. https://mobile.twitter.com/AriyahV/status/615676088270909440

    ReplyDelete
  122. Come On.There is no way Outlander 's Episode 116 could be even with any other show.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Outlander surpasses anything on screen or stage right now.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I'm bad with these things, too, and decided on fifteen in chronological order. I'll have a better sense of Season 4 after a full rewatch.
    Cura Te Ipsum
    Super
    Root Cause
    Firewall
    Prisoner's Dilemma
    Relevance
    Trojan Horse
    Zero Day
    Mors Praematura
    The Devil's Share
    Aletheia
    Beta
    If-Then-Else
    M.I.A.
    YHWH

    ReplyDelete
  125. Indeed. S3 had way more cliffhanger then the past two finales combined.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Voted for PoI's ITE, cause how could I not, it gave us the "maybe someday" scene and THE KISS...Everything about this episode is beautiful...And although I personally think Asylum was way better than YHWH, It was still a great season finale, so yeah, POIx2 !!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. I voted for #Outlander The Wedding and Agent Carter.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Congrats, POI fan base you guys brought it, or should I say are still bringing it, Agent Carter I'm still very proud got this far as a freshman series, not too shabby!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  129. It was way better than any other show or episode, that's why I don't understand how we could lose this battle. But hey, this poll is not *that* important. Outlander is still the best. series. Ever. ♥

    ReplyDelete
  130. Oh... Someone else who preferred Asylum to YHWH! I liked it better too. I loooved the finale, just loved Asylum even better

    ReplyDelete
  131. Have ya seen If-Then-Else? Because that episode was an absolute masterpiece. From start to finish.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Vote,vote,vote!!

    ReplyDelete
  133. Voted for Outlander (best show on television by far) and getting the word out.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Hey, remember when TV.com listed If-Then-Else as one of the best episodes of 2014-2015? http://www.tv.com/m/news/best-episodes-of-the-tv-season-2015-143439866660/?fullstory=1

    Heck yeah If-Then-Else.

    ReplyDelete
  135. NNnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooo!!!!!!

    I need a moment.

I don't want to pick between Outlander and POI. I can't. You do it.
But I will vote POI against Agent Carter.

I have to abstain from the first poll. I'm rocking a hard core TIE

    ReplyDelete
  136. The first was difficult. The Wedding was a rare bird in the TV world, using intimate scenes for real characterization, not just for token nudity. But If-Then-Else was both the essence of what makes Person of Interest a great show (with all the tidbits of fun, shocking twists, action and emotions) and a very original gimmick at the same time, so with my true appreciation to Jamie and Claire, my vote went for PoI.

The second was a no brainer, sorry Miss Carter, your story couldn't catch me.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Outlander and Agent Carter.

    ReplyDelete
  138. If you want to see a TRUE masterpiece, watch Outlander, esp. episode 116. Best acting ever by Sam Heughan and Tobias Menzies. But esp. by Sam. No other show, no other actor can top that.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Suggestion, which may have been brought up elsewhere. Next time can we have just 1 episode per show competing? Having a final being the same show is a bit boring IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I vehemently disagree with Dahne's idea.

The number of episodes should not be curtailed nor should they be placed in the same bracket on purpose. This is supposed to be a fun competition. A fun competition that is fair and neutral. By placing 2 or more different episodes of the same show in the same bracket, you are deliberately manipulating the outcome of the competition even before it starts. If the best 2, 4, 8 (etc.) episodes happen to be from the same show then so be it. We are acknowledging the best of the best and to deny a show that right is not in the spirit of any competition.

One way to quell these complaints is to make it a 1v4, 2v3 seeding competition. 2 of the same show's episodes can still find themselves facing off against each other but if both receive the highest number of nominations then they cannot meet until the final. It's fair and every time I've employed this in competitions, there have been no grumbles. Interestingly enough, had you used this method in this competition, PoI and Arrow would have seen their episodes face off against each other had they all gotten to the semis.

    ReplyDelete
  141. PERSON OF INTEREST TO THE FINALS.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Noteworthy: Person of Interest has the only seeds left in the competition.

    ReplyDelete
  143. If-Then-Else was POI's best episode yet and one of the best television episodes of all time - ever. Very few episodes can be compared to its brilliance, none of which aired this past season. No brainer.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Last time I saw the poll. POI was only leading by 450-500 votes. And now. :D *giggity*

    ReplyDelete
  145. I don't think it's necessary. Thank god, Spoilertv refrains from naming the poll as "Best" or "Greatest" or any with any other hyperbole.

I dare to say it isn't simply about size of the fandoms - it's more about how satisfied were the viewers of the particular episodes. Even in a weaker season a show can came out mindblowingly good episodes.

The perfect proof of this is Castle's position in this year poll. It has a huge and usually very dedicated fandom. They promoted two episodes into the poll, which wasn't a surprise - yet when they needed to compare those ones with other shows, they didn't voted them. Either voted to other shows or didn't vote at all.

Beside, this is a POLL, not a RACE. I see the results as hints, that there are shows which I maybe should give a try, if their episodes went far (like The 100 in this year) and not as something which must be won.

    ReplyDelete
  146. This is one of the very few sites where PoI wins anything. Lol. The show usually goes under the radar most of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  147. If-Then-Else of course ;)

    ReplyDelete
  148. Pretty much. If anything, this is an indication that POI would have "won" either way. If-Then-Else was that important/groundbreaking.

    ReplyDelete
  149. POI won all 16 categories it was nominated in in Give Me My Remote Awards this week. POI won the Zimbio March Madness with Root/Shaw. POI won multiple polls since Zimbio, actually. But we are still under the radar. More people are starting to notice though. Not sure if this is a good thing (more publicity) or a bad thing (no longer underestimated by the opponents ;))

    ReplyDelete
  150. To be fair. We were the only ones who cared to vote for those polls. It is still very much underrated especially on mainstream tv websites who still think that the show only your "everyday cop procedural. I think its a good thing though, we need more loyal viewers. A little too late for the publicity though, the 13 episode order is pretty much a confirmed final season for PoI.

    ReplyDelete
  151. A final season on CBS, that much is pretty clear yeah. Jerks. But maybe someone else would be able to pick it up for a final, short sixth season. Netflix is the best bet since they have syndication rights along with WGN, and POI will be coming to Netflix this fall.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I hope so. I want watch the full originally planned seasons. Maybe if Netflix picks it up, the snubs will end and I'll have more people to discuss the show with.
The Outlander fandom are actually bigger than PoI's. I guess most are on vacation?

    ReplyDelete
  153. I would have loved to see If-Then-Else against To Ransom A Man's Soul, those episodes are superbe. However I voted for The Wedding (I can't vote against Outlander even though If-Then-Else is way better) and YHWH.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I also disagree with the preemptive pairing or - as it was suggested above - limiting the roster to one episode per show.

I like PoI very much, but right these results shows that it's oversimplification (or fan excuse bingo) to say that it's simply a fandom thing. Last year PoI reached only the second round with Devil's Share (which was IMHO even better than YHWH this year), period. The fact that in this year it managed to get into the final, against such excellent shows and episodes like Outlander brought or Hardhome from GoT means that this year they managed to exceed themselves. Won the votes of people who aren't "dedicated fans" of the show, just watch it.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Hope you have seen the WGN-America promo for PoI and Elementary. Funny and clever.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Yeah, the reason I didn't put the same shows in the same bracket was because I didn't want to feel as if I was manipulating the draw. Thanks for the 1v4, 2v3 suggestion. That's maybe something I'll look to do next year. This may be the third edition of the competition but I'm still trying to find the best ways of doing things, so to some extent it's still a work in progress.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Yep, we've discussed this below and I've discussed behind the scenes before the comp began. It's maybe something I'll look into next year.

    ReplyDelete
  158. It is actually Favourite Episode Competition, I just never put it in the title :)

But yeah, not best or greatest etc as we've had people complain about that in the past for the series comp and every internet poll ever is about popularity, not quality.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Best episodes:

    1. The Devil's Share (that episode was absolute perfection. Literally flawless)
    2. If-Then-Else
    3. God Mode
    4. Zero Day
    5. The Crossing
    6. Relevance
    7. YHWH
    8. Asylum
    9. Prisoner's Dilemma
    10. The Devil You Know

To be honest, 6-10 are probably interchangeable in my mind depending on which I'm thinking of at the same time.

In terms of favourite, the pilot slides in at number 5, The Devil You Know at 6, Prisoner's Dilemma at 7, Dead Reckoning at 8, and everything else on the list not mentioned slides down in the same order.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Second best scene on the show ever imo. Only Elias/Scarface killing Simmons was better.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Someone else who likes Prisoner's Dilemma as me!

    ReplyDelete
  162. I rewatched it a few months back and remembered how awesome it is. As you say below John being discovered was a huge thing back then (it was SO long ago - or at least it feels like it!). Also, the episode ended with Crash of Death (the Listening With a Million Ears soundtrack variation) which I adore ;)

    ReplyDelete
  163. I preferred this one to that one actually, although the entire episode was masterful.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Why did no one believe me that is was going to be POI vs POI?

    ReplyDelete
  165. Chapman gave one hell of a performance there, and it was so satisfying to see Fusco finally get one over on Simmons, but I get so many excitement chills whenever I rewatch that final scene and just hear Elias say "It's just me, Officer."

    ReplyDelete
  166. So many popular shows with huge fanbases in this competition, I expected at least one to rival POI.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Yeah exactly, it feels like a long time ago now and so much has happened and the stakes have evolved so much (John spends the day at a police station right now lol, doesn't get more different than that) that it really feels less important now but I remember how awesome it was. And Carter was such a badass on that arc.

    ReplyDelete
  168. I still knew POI was bigger.

    ReplyDelete
  169. In all honesty, two months ago, I wouldn't have expected it to do that well at all. Then it walked the SpoilerTV Awards and was nominated hundreds of times here. The almost-cancellation and the 13 episode order has really brought the fans out. Last year, The Devil's Share went out in the first couple of rounds.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Very true. The Devil's Share should have gone much further.

    ReplyDelete
  171. The other fanbases are inactive or something. I remember that Outlander and Arrow totally dominated the polls here.

    ReplyDelete
  172. So... Is this STV telling me I need to start watching POI? Anyone could give me a brief (non-spoilery) idea about what it's about?

    ReplyDelete
  173. Basically this billionaire genius Mr Finch (Michael Emerson) has designed and build a machine that spies on you every hour of every day in an effort to prevent violent crimes before they happen. He enlists the help of Mr Reese (Jim Caviezel) in helping him stop these crimes.

    ReplyDelete
  174. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. If @Bradley Adams:disqus tells more, there's a risk of spoiling prospective new viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  175. It starts out slow though. But when you reach a certain point of the series. You are in for a one hell of a ride.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Sounds very interesting, is it a slow pace to the level that is loved now? Or will I be addicted instantly?

    ReplyDelete
  177. Way to go POI! So glad I started watching this show a few months ago. Totally blew my mind.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpyfORQAaCs

    ReplyDelete
  178. It's reasonably slow for the first season or so (the pace is a little faster than a typical CBS procedural) and then gets really intense from midway through season 2 onwards. But you'll be addicted instantly, because even from the start, it's amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Have you at least watched both episodes before you say things like this?

    ReplyDelete
  180. The first 6-7 episodes in S1 are largely the usual procedural COTW story in structure.

From then on the COTW is almost always part of a larger scheme, but it isn't linear. Later on two, even three main plotline is developed (yeah, beside each other, it is possible...) and those are occasionally intertwine with each other.

Spice it with very good acting, sprinkle with sarcastic, gallow humor oneliners and voilá, here is your weekly PoI episode.

    ReplyDelete
  181. OMG, this reminded my how much I missed Shaw.

    ReplyDelete
  182. That is the reality. POI was a really quiet fandom. Zimbio poll start to make it a little more involved but the big jump was when they annouced the shorter season, the midseason push and the big possibility of cancellation, making this the last season of POI. It is a real shame because the producers said they had story to 6 seasons and the show is so good (there are other good shows out there, this is not me saying mine is better than yours :) ). Like some said it was slow in S1 and I almost gave up but then it turned so good. The writers are very good and very little is left to chance everything has a motive. So yes this is our way of voting our favs, show support and also give it some visibility, perhaps more people will like it and join. They are going to air the first seasons this fall in WGN and on Netflix US (already available on other countries Netflix). So more viewers might weight on POI future, who knows.
For those that are going to try it, hope you enjoy it as much as us the fans do.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Check out the submissions for POI when Dahne made the Pitch Your Show 2015 edition.

    http://www.spoilertv.com/2015/06/pitch-your-show-summer-part-d-penny.html

    ReplyDelete
  184. I think in general every fandom is more inactive on hiatus, the difference here are the ones that are trying to find new homes for their series (Hannibal, Forever for example) or the ones that have an uncertain future and almost cancellation (POI), those become more active.
