s3 was simply brilliant, s4 is a close second, s2 was not bad, especially after Shaw showed up, s1 was kinda boring with too much procedural . So 3-4-2-1
IMO, this show has been like an amazing book series that gets better as it goes along. Started out slowly from the blocks in S1, built its characters, lent them depth and ended S1 on a monumental change. Threw breadcrumbs all over the episodes in S2 leading up to yet more monumental developments by the end of S2. S3 was on a whole new level. Just when you thought that things would quieten down after Carter, in came the epic Samaritan story line that has endured and continued its ascent throughout S4.
Obviously, S3 and S4 are the best, but they themselves stand on a solid platform of many an epic moment from S1 and S2.
Not to mention the way it all ties together. Greer disappeared after the season 2 finale, only to return halfway through the next season and ending up in first place concerning the race for Samaritan (between Team Machine, the government and Vigilance fighting for it)... And them "RAM" revealed his involvement in the bigger picture, going back all the way to season 1. And it all works! This show really does mythology well.
My list is 3-2-4-1, but I loved them all. Season 3 was the perfect culmination of everything leading up to it. Season 4 was great, but wasn't as consistent in te second half, and not as good concerning plot development (the Elias/Dominic storyline ending the way it did; the Brotherhood ended up feeling like the go-to bad guy for case of the week episodes)... Season 2 was more consistent, and I loved te FBI and God Mode storylines. Season 1 was lovely as well, but I hadn't quite fallen in love with the show just yet.
Very difficult for me. There's no season I really disliked. Season 1 had some nice procedural episodes but also small nice things going on - it was a whole different concept. Season 2 stepped up, especially towards the end. Season 3 was pretty awesome, Season 4 imo had better peaks but other things had more issues (B-plot Brotherhood, bit of a hole after M.I.A. and before things picked up again). I'll go with 3-4-2-1
I think Root and everything her character went through this season is one of the big reasons season 4 is the best for me. She has become my favorite character for the simple fact... Amy Acker is amazing at what she does. Need shoot reunion quick though!
Can that comment be considered an option in the poll? :) The book series comparison is apt; someone on IGN compared it to Harry Potter, and nowthat's how I see it (partly because I love HP, too). I don't think that the series gets "better" as it goes, but that it progresses and expands. Even rewatching Season 1 now, it's still enjoyable and makes me think, granted the latter is partly because of the developments in Season 4.
I loved everything about 1 and 2, and 2 was a step up from 1. 3 was extremely good but inconsistent, particularly towards the beginning when the writers didn't know what to do with Shaw (resulting in her mostly just causing Reese to look superfluous) and Root (trying to transform her from an incarcerated, murderous villain into a regular protagonist). 4 was the only season that didn't have me on the edge of my seat for almost every episode, so it comes in last by default.
3-4-2-1. I would have love for it to be 4-3-2-1, but the weaker second half of Season 4 couldn't top Season 3's smooth flow. Season 4 is still a phenomenal though.
Season 4 would be higher, but the second half of the season between when Root left and the episode with Carter was incredibly dull and killed all the momentum and awesomeness of the first half. Season 2 was probably the most consistent in awesomeness, but Season 3 was the sweet spot and had some of the best episodes and arguably the best of the show: The Devil's Share.
Having given this more thought, I decided to vote 4 3 1 2. Season 4 actually reminded me of Season 1 with solid episodes throughout. It's hard to explain, but I feel like those two are the most solid/comfortable in their respective scopes, and shifting scopes in the case of 4. S2 feels like the most in-between, and not as memorable episode-to-episode.

I'd tie three & four: Four was more bolder in terms of exploring concepts, while Three had more consistency in pushing the arc forward.

I have just sat through an entire 4 season binge and it is definitely 2-1-3-4 for sure. No way is 3 or 4 the best seasons of the series.
ReplyDelete3-4-2-1 As much as I like Harold and John, the women (root and shaw specifically) bring a dynamic to the show and make it that much better.
