Elementary for me. I used to like Sherlock, but it's become too meta and is now more about the characters than the cases, which I'm not as interested in.
I still can't forgive Sherlock for its horribly sexist writing. Season 2 completely assassinated the character of Irene Adler. She's supposed to be the one person who can outsmart Sherlock Holmes. Instead, on Sherlock, she's a lesbian dominatrix who despite her sexuality is so infatuated with Cumberbatch's raw Tumblr-tasticness that she's distracted to the point where he outsmarts her. And then he swoops in to save his damsel in distress at the last minute. Give me a break.
By comparison, Elementary gave Natalie Dormer a real, meaningful, complicated relationship with both Holmes and Watson.
why would people even compare these shows?? they're so different in everything, c'mon. i mean, Elementary should be compared with Mentalist or Castle while Sherlock should be rather collated with smth like bbc Luther.
I started watching Elementary when it premiered, then heard about Sherlock & decided to see what all the fuss was about . . . I haven't seen Elementary since! There is only one Watson & one Sherlock & I would much rather wait years between seasons, only get 3 episodes, than watch Miller & Lu's cheap imitations.
I like Elementary, but for me, no contest. Elementary is a procedural with great leads, a really cool Moriarty/Adler and some fun Sherlock-esque bits thrown in. Sherlock IS the modern Sherlock, with holy crap good leads, an amazing Moriarty AND Mrs. Hudson AND Mycroft (I'm sorry, I love their Mycroft so much more), and I think their cases and overall arcs are much better. Plus, their Sherlock has the awesome coat. The only edge Elementary has is I don't have to wait freaking forever for a new season. I will grant them that's looking like a pretty good edge these days.
Easily Sherlock for me. Even though Elementary is better than i thought it would be, thanks to very strong performances from it's leads, it still is nowhere near as awesome as Sherlock.
No contrest. Sherlock hands down. No competition. Elementary is knocked out cold in the first round.
Please, Elementary is such a joke and I'd like to see Cumberbatch's Sherlock just show up on Elementary to reveal that Elementary's Sherlock is just a psyche ward patient who believes he's the great Sherlock Holmes.
I agree.Elementary & Sherlock could not be more different! I enjoy both shows; but prefer Elementary immensely! The BBC Sherlock's arrogance gets to be annoying. Elementary's Sherlock is also arrogant, however he is written more human with lots of demons. In my opinion, Jonny Lee Miller is the most underrated actor in the business. He is Sherlock to me & he's the reason I prefer Elementary.
You're entitled to your opinion but most fans loved that twist. It's a very Moriarty thing to become so obsessed with Holmes that she forms a relationship with Holmes to get to know him and ultimately defeat him. I'd say Elementary gave both Moriarty and Adler a much richer character arc than either got in Sherlock (cartoonish maniac and over-sexed damsel in distress). The only complaint I would have is that they need to bring her back! But of course Natalie Dormer is understandably busy being a superstar.
Main point though is that Elementary has created multiple fascinating female characters (Watson, Moriary/Adler, Kitty Winter) while Sherlock wrote one of the most contrived, offensive degradations of a female literary icon I've ever seen.
Elementary kicks Sherlock's butt!!!!!!!! it has so much awesome twists, especially when the made Irene Adler and Moriarty into the same person. Natalie Dormer is best Moriarty the Sherlock Holmes mythology has ever had.
Same here generally. Though I'd still take the interesting cases and complex characters in Elementary over easily guessed plots and gif-ably/Tumblresque type roles we got in the last season of Sherlock. I am looking forward to the special at Xmas though, the non-canon, set in the past aspect is something I would love to see them pull off really well.
I voted "Elementary", BUT... I answered the question "Which show do I LIKE more" rather than which is better. Because I do not think it is possible to define "correctly" which one is better.
Better at ratings? Better because has bigger fandom/viewer numbers? Better actors who act better? Better stories/writing? Better locations? Better technical part?... etc.??? How do you define "better". I do not think you can, because there are so many things to consider. And while one can be better at one, the other can be better at other things.
I love ACDs Sherlock Holmes stories/books, and I usually like watching the movies/tv series, but not all of them "captivate me". The newest British version, "Sherlock" did not and does not captivate me. The newest US version,"Elementary" has me hooked on the other hand.
I have to disagree immensely there. Sherloxk's humanity is showcased by his friendship and care for John and as his best man. That and Cumberbatch> Miller.
Sherlock is clearly the more interesting show, and for that reason I picked it. Elementary is a great show, but the dynamic of 44 min episodes X23 weeks = a bit more watered down compared to 3 eps the length of a movie
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Sherlock!! One of my favorite shows :)
ReplyDeleteWhy did you even bother with this poll??? Of course, Sherlock is by very far better!!!!
ReplyDeleteSherlock.
ReplyDeleteI only watch Elementary so I don't think my vote would be very objective. But I voted for Elementary anyway.
ReplyDeleteBoth shows have their own unique charm so I'll vote for both.
ReplyDeleteSherlock!!! Hands down!!!
ReplyDeleteI miss it so much!!!
ReplyDeleteme too, its been so long :(
ReplyDeleteProduction-wise, Sherlock is a clear winner.
ReplyDeleteElementary is the better adaptation.
Sherlock!
ReplyDeleteSherlock by a country mile!
ReplyDeleteMe too Koky.
ReplyDeleteTo the person who created this (and stv...)
ReplyDelete( Elementary without blink, btw)
To the person who created this (and stv...)
ReplyDelete( Elementary, without blink, btw)
Sherlock all of the way, Elementary is great but Sherlock is better.
ReplyDeleteElementary for me. I used to like Sherlock, but it's become too meta and is now more about the characters than the cases, which I'm not as interested in.
ReplyDeleteI think Sherlock is closer to Doyle.
ReplyDeleteI still can't forgive Sherlock for its horribly sexist writing. Season 2 completely assassinated the character of Irene Adler. Elementary.
ReplyDeleteI choose Sherlock especially because I think the lead actor is brilliant

ReplyDeleteElementary. I just cannot get into Sherlock.
ReplyDeleteSherlock is by far the better show. But Natalie Dormer is brilliant as Moriarty.
ReplyDeleteSherlock. By a lot.

ReplyDeletei couldn't get into CBS' procedural formula. Sherlock all the way.
ReplyDeleteI knew Sherlock had a big internet following but I didn't realize how big it actually was.
ReplyDeleteYeah I like elementary better too I just wanted to see what the majority was.
ReplyDeleteOf course Sherlock, there's no competition.
ReplyDeleteYou're joking, right? Sherlock. No question.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually his intelligence she's attracted to.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is why I hate most procedurals.
ReplyDeleteWatch Sherlock.
ReplyDeleteHow I feel about Elementary thanks to seeing Sherlock first.
ReplyDeleteAye aye captain. How many seasons are there?
ReplyDelete3 and 9 90 minute episodes. Kinda like three connected movies per season. It features a beautiful bromance, great acting and writing.
ReplyDeleteCool. Added to my summer watch list.
ReplyDeleteSherlock, definitely, but I like Elementary as well. It doesn't come close though :)
ReplyDeleteWait, Natalie Dormer plays Irene AND Moriarty on Elementary? I might check out this show now lol.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahaha.
Hahahahahahahahahaha.
No contrest. Sherlock hands down. No competition. Elementary is knocked out cold in the first round.

ReplyDeleteIs that even a valid question. Sherlock.
ReplyDeleteI can't figure out for the life of me how Elementary is even a thing.
Never underestimate fans of British serials.
ReplyDeletemmmmm too different. it's not comparing apples and oranges, it's comparing apples and pens. so.. not voting.
ReplyDeleteHearing that was the sole reason I checked out Elementary in the first place.
ReplyDeleteActually I can't never forgive Elementary for fusing Irene Adler and Moriarty, I found it completely ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteYou're entitled to your opinion but most fans loved that twist. It's a very Moriarty thing to become so obsessed with Holmes that she forms a relationship with Holmes to get to know him and ultimately defeat him. ReplyDeleteYeah she is and she does it in spades
ReplyDeleteThey are both equally entertaining shows and I couldn't even imagine beginning to compare them.
ReplyDeleteThey are both great shows tackling the same character with a different approach rather successfully.
ReplyDeleteSo both.
Same here generally. Though I'd still take the interesting cases and complex characters in Elementary over easily guessed plots and gif-ably/Tumblresque type roles we got in the last season of Sherlock. ReplyDeleteSeriously mate...no contest here. It's Sherlock! It's like comparing Superman & me!
ReplyDeleteI voted "Elementary", BUT... I answered the question "Which show do I LIKE more" rather than which is better. Because I do not think it is possible to define "correctly" which one is better.

Meh gotta say Cumberbatch and Freeman can't be beat. And I prefer Andrew Scott to Dormer.
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree immensely there. Sherloxk's humanity is showcased by his friendship and care for John and as his best man. That and Cumberbatch> Miller.
ReplyDeleteElementary's cases are pretty generic compared to Sherlock's. And I'll take drunk Sherlock and Watson over Elementary Sherlock any day.
ReplyDeleteNo just no. Using a Joker gif for this.
ReplyDeleteLoved Sherlock until I started watching Elementary. Will still watch Sherlock though, but Elementary wins for me :)
ReplyDeleteSherlock is clearly the more interesting show, and for that reason I picked it.
