HBO: Is there a relationship between the story of season two and the story of season one, or any connection between the seasons?
There’s no relationship between the stories or characters, which was the result of fully committing to something new, but I do think that the seasons have a deep, close bond in sensibility and vision, a similar soul, though this is a more complex world and field of characters.
HBO: Earlier last year, you said that this season was about ‘Bad men, hard women and the secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system.’ Is that still true?
It’s not, I’m afraid. There’s definitely bad men and hard women, but no secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system. That was a comment from very early in the process, and something I ended up discarding in favor of closer character work and a more grounded crime story. The complexity of the historical conspiracy first conceived detracted from the characters and their reality, I felt, and those characters are ultimately what have to shape the world and story. So I moved away from that.

I was just thinking about S2 a few hours ago wondering when we would get more info! Looking forward to it a lot, interested that they are using more original music (I love the track from the trailer),
ReplyDeleteThere's so much hype for this, I'm afraid it won't live up to the high standards set on season one. Same goes for Fargo. Just hope they are great in whatever standard it's set.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I think people need to learn to keep their expectations in check. It's what ruined The Avengers 2.
ReplyDeleteGlad to get some clarity from earlier reports in the story and the final result. Looking forward to it. The logline I think is interesting...
ReplyDeleteCertainly did enjoy Avengers 2, it felt like one of those filler episodes in a serial drama TV that's setting up for another big thing; Captain America 3.
ReplyDeleteToo much focus on occult mythology that ultimately went nowhere is a huge part of what made that first season so tedious. Glad to hear they're dumping that in season two.
ReplyDeleteNow hopefully these "grounded" characters have more depth and more complex dialogue than a pot-smoking philosophy major.
OH so the music in the trailer is original? Cool... It sounded like a great song and I couldn't find anywhere so now I know why...
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda glad they're going a different way with the new season, and I'm also glad they're going with an ensemble, but I think I'll miss the occult vibe of last year.
Either way I'm quite excited to see what's in store for S2!
Would it be 100% okay if I just watch Season 2 without watching the first one.
ReplyDeleteYep, its a completely separate story with a completely new cast. But I highly recommend S1 it was my favourite show of 2014 and the performances were phenomenal .
ReplyDeleteI wonder how that tagline plays into the actual show...
