YA author Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith is bringing MTV her Trinkets.

The Viacom-owned cable network is teaming with the author to bring her book Trinkets to the small screen, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Trinkets, first published in 2013, revolves around three teenage girls who meet in Shoplifter’s Anonymous. Their secret friendship transforms their social, home and romantic lives.

Smith co-created the series with Andrea Seigl (Laggies), with the latter on board to pen the script for the comedy. Smith will exec produce with Morgan J. Freeman and Dia Sokol Savage of 11th Street Productions. Trinkets expands the company's relationship with MTV, with the company producing Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant. The comedy is the company's first foray into scripted programming. (For his part, Freeman's directorial debut Hurricane Streets won three awards at the Sundance Film Festival.)
