PITTSBURGH, PA (May 5, 2015) – Production begins today in and around Pittsburgh, PA on WGN America’s new original drama series “Outsiders,” a tale of struggle for power and control set in the rugged and mysterious hills of Appalachia. A Sony Pictures Television and Tribune Studios production, “Outsiders” is written and created by award-winning playwright Peter Mattei, who executive produces alongside Fedora Entertainment's Emmy® Award winner Peter Tolan ("Rescue Me," "Analyze This"), Emmy Award-winning actor Paul Giamatti ("John Adams," "Sideways"), Dan Carey ("All Is Bright") for Touchy Feely Films and Fedora’s Michael Wimer ("2012," "Rake"). Emmy Award-winning director Adam Bernstein (“30 Rock,” “Fargo”) will direct two installments of WGN America’s 13-episode, one-hour drama, slated to premiere in early 2016.

"Outsiders" tells the story of the Farrell clan, a family of renegades who've been in the hills of Kentucky since before anyone can remember. Living off the grid and above the law on their mountaintop homestead, they'll protect their world and defend their way of life using any means necessary.

The ensemble cast for “Outsiders” includes: David Morse (“Treme,” “Hurt Locker”) as Big Foster, a gruff and powerful heir to leadership; Joe Anderson (“The Divide,” “Across the Universe”) as Asa, a member of the Farrell clan looking to rejoin the family after a stint with the outside world; Thomas M. Wright (“The Bridge,” “Top of the Lake”) as Sheriff Wade Houghton, a cop who has a history with the Farrells, and grapples with a few troubles of his own; Ryan Hurst (“Sons Of Anarchy,” “Bates Motel”), as Lil Foster, a massive mountain man and son of Big Foster; Gillian Alexy (“The Americans,” “Damages”) as G'Winveer, a survivor and Asa’s confidante; Kyle Gallner (“American Sniper,” “Veronica Mars”) as Hasil, an intuitive soul who feels rejected by the group; Christina Jackson (“Boardwalk Empire,” “Deception”) as Sally-Ann, a beautiful girl from a mining town who is fascinated by the Farrells and Hasil in particular; Francie Swift (“Hostages,” “House of Cards”) as Haylie, a cunning, all-American community relations manager with the encroaching coal company; and Phyllis Somerville (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “The Big C”) as Lady Ray, the regal yet tough leader of the Farrell clan.

  • 19:45 - Slasher - ChillerTV orders first ever Original Series
    SLASHER

Chiller’s first original series, Slasher, follows the plight of a young woman who returns to the small town where she was born, only to find herself the centerpiece in a series of horrifying copycat murders - based on the widely-known, grisly killings of her parents. The eight-part season serves as the first instalment of an anthology series, where each season exists as a self-contained hybrid of the slasher subgenre of horror films and the traditional murder mystery. Over the course of the Slasher series, a variety of mysteries will unfold, building towards a climactic finale.

Developed and produced by Shaftesbury in association with Chiller and Super Channel and distributed by Content, Slasher is written and created by Aaron Martin (Killjoys, Degrassi: The Next Generation) and directed by Craig David Wallace (Todd and the Book of Pure Evil). Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie are executive producers. Funded with the participation of the COGECO Program Development and Northern Ontario Heritage Funds, Slasher will commence production in Sudbury this summer. Canadian broadcaster is Super Channel.

Lies, betrayal, and did we mention lies?
Everyone — ev-ry-one — is playing an angle on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 20. Each member of the sizable cast has an individual goal, and they react, er, rather strongly if reality doesn’t dovetail with their intentions.

    About three different cliffhangers
One cliffhanger might not be super surprising. But “Scars” is the episode which sends Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 barreling toward its terrifying two-hour finale; that means that almost every member of the various factions ends the episode on a massive — and dangerous — question mark. The last lines of tomorrow night’s episode lay out exactly what kinds of conflict “S.O.S. Parts 1 and 2″ will brutally deliver next week.

Expect betrayal. Expect secrets. And expect the unexpected.

  • 15:30 - Machinima picks up "Clive Barkers Creepy Pasta" to series
Thanks to Mac for the heads up.

Creepypasta is the collective term for short horror stories, fanfiction, videos or other media, shared online with the aim of freaking out the reader. Takes after the act of “copypasta”, postng the same thing again and again across the net, creepypastas can take the form of animated gifs or games as well… they can also include supposedly lost episodes of TV shows that feature death, or something downright odd.

The most famous creepypasta is probably the horror figure Slender Man, or the fictional arcade game Polybius, which have crept into urban legend, but there are many more including the fake lost Simpsons episode in which Bart Simpson dies, a haunted version of the Majora’s Mask game that have led players to take their lives, or the Lavender Town level of Pokemon that was meant to feature frequencies that only children could hear.

So who better to visit this than Clive Barker? Taking on the legends of Slender Man, Jeff The Killer and BEN Drowned…. as a series of short films from Machinima called Clive Barker’s Creepy Pasta, and adapted by Barker from submissions sent to him from the creepypasta community.

  17. It is an historical study about race it appears, so I don't think ABC would be wise to try it after American Crime, even with Shonda involved. And maybe she wants it to be more mature than broadcast standards allow.

That Chiller show sounds just like "Scream Queens" and MTV's "Scream" show...which means I'm probably totally gonna watch it lol.

  20. I'm trying to keep up with all of the new shows that are coming but it's like an embarrassment of riches. Every time Iog on, I see something new. I love it.

I love the sound of Outsiders and it will be great to see Ryan Hurst on TV again.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I get the comparison, but Scream seems to be going for the tone of the Scream films which had a lot of comedic elements due to the character commenting on the rules of slasher films, and Scream Queens also is going for comedy mixed with horror. The Chiller series doesnt sound like it is going for meta jokes about slasher films.

  22. CW-Who ordered the show in the first place?LOL!

  23. popcultureguy6 May 2015 at 01:56

True. I've always said that I think "Scream Queens" is going to be more of a comedy with horror elements while "Scream" will be more of a thriller with comedic moments. The Chiller show sounds more straightforward, though.

  24. Avengers: Oh sooooooo much of that leaked information about the deleted/alternate stuff upsets me... and please note I really liked the movie
    - a relationship between [Black Widow] and Hawkeye was planned. Whedon fought against it because he wanted to show that men and women can be great friends without having sex.
Says the guy who put Xander and Willow together? And did so for no real reason BTW... I love ya Joss, but sometimes you really need to not cherry pick. Steve and Nat have a great friendship/platonic relationship. There's what you could have worked with and left the original Marvel plan intact.

    - Whedon and the studio had the idea to pair up Banner and the Black Widow after their scene in the hut in "The Avengers". Whedon also had Banner toy with a craddle in thar scene in reference to his inability to have children, which he thought was interesting concept.
In the first movie I did see Bruce's want for "normal" in that scene. I even saw him possibly developing a crush for Nat. I even saw her deciding tricking him wasn't a good idea (her realisation that her mind and spy tricks on him are what got her in trouble in the cargo of the Hellicarrier in the first movie) and how she would instead try honesty with him from then on. And so I was willing to see how a possible romance might develop, because even though I wasn't really sold, I could see how the leap and development of their dynamic might work in theory. But my GOD! was it the worst thing about the movie.
There was nothing epic about it. The whole thing felt forced. I hope they drop that storyline and don't try to push for any more Bruce/Nat in the future.
    - On a sidenote, I would have really liked to have seen a grey Hulk while he was under Wanda's trance as a nod to the character's originally intended colour...

Don't really care about Andy Buckley's casting, but I'm so looking forward for You're the Worst to come back. I really loved S1, and it totally took me by surprise.

Can't wait for Amy and Jake to be fake undercover dating on Brooklyn 9-9 tonight!

I like Will Poulter but I feel he's too young to be It's Pennywise. I wonder how they're doing that movie, splitting into two... maybe the first one is while they're kids, the second is when they return as grownups....? That might be interesting seperating the two timelines that way...
