He then uses the remaining, uneaten crew to host and interview the most interesting humans from pop-culture, music, art, technology, and more. (A sample episode has been embedded below for your viewing pleasure.)

23:28 - MOVIES: Wonder Woman - Chris Pines In Talks to Co-Star as Love Interest
Wonder Woman is about to get hot and heavy with Chris Pine. Sources tell Variety the “Star Trek” actor is in negotiations to join Gal Gadot in the upcoming superhero pic for Warner Bros.
Pine would play Gadot’s love interest Steve Trevor in the origin story. Warner Bros. had no comment.
Patty Jenkins, who recently replaced Michelle MacLaren, is directing from a script by Jason Fuchs. “Wonder Woman” will be released in 2017.
In the comics, Steve Trevor was an intelligence officer in the United States Army during World War II whose plane crashed on Paradise Island, the isolated homeland of the Amazons. He was nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana, who fell in love with him and followed him when he returned to the outside world. There she became Wonder Woman (and also his co-worker, Diana Prince).
Rumors had suggested that Scott Eastwood had landed the part, but insiders tell Variety that Eastwood was given a choice to test for the Trevor role or sign on for a guaranteed supporting part in “Suicide Squad,” which he opted to take.

Strange is Marvel’s supernatural hero, a formerly cocky surgeon who loses the use of his hands, and while on a last ditch attempt to heal himself, discovers magic.
Strange’s mentor is a Tibetan mystic known as the Ancient One, who is training pupils to be the next sorcerer supreme. In the comics, the character has been a male, and Marvel Studios initially was searching for a male actor.
But the studio rethought the role and has now made it female. If a deal makes, Swinton will play the Ancient One.

09:25 - Unarmed - HBO Developing VA Hospital Limited Series From Eric Roth & Denis Johnson
HBO has in the works Unarmed, a limited drama series from Oscar winner Eric Rothand writer Denis Johnson, set at an Armed Forces medical center. Warner Bros. TV and Timberman/Beverly are producing the project, now in development, which is looking for a director in anticipation of a pilot order.
Unarmed centers on Amos Searl, a civilian psychiatrist new to his practice at an Armed Forces medical center that specializes in treating amputees and burn victims, critically wounded veterans just returned from America’s recent wars. A double amputee from life’s wars himself, Searl — a man who has always questioned authority — tries to make sense and give meaning to our soldiers, the young men and women who are trying, like him, to find their way home.
Roth originally sold the project, based on his own idea, to HBO. He then brought in Johnson, who is set to write all episodes if the project goes to series the way Nic Pizzolatto writes every episode of True Detective and Noah Hawley does on Fargo. Roth also reached out to prolific series producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly (Masters Of Sex, Elementary) with whom he had discussed collaborating. Since Unarmedis a limited series, the project didn’t interfere with the duo’s duties at CBS TV Studios, and Timberman and Beverly carved it out of their new overall deal there. The two will executive produce Unarmed with Roth and Johnson.

09:10 - MOVIES: IT - Director Leaves Project - Remake May Be Dead
The remake of IT may be dead--or undead--but we'll always have Tim Curry. He's still floating down in the sewers of Derry.
— Stephen King (@StephenKing) May 25, 2015
Cary Fukunaga is out as the director of New Line’s two-part adaptation of Stephen King‘s “It,” which will not move forward as planned this summer and has been pushed indefinitely, multiple individuals familiar with the situation have told TheWrap.
Insiders tell TheWrap that “True Detective” director Fukunaga repeatedly clashed with the studio and did not want to compromise his artistic vision in the wake of budget cuts that were recently demanded by New Line, which greenlit the first film at $30 million. The situation came to a head over Memorial Day weekend, leading to Fukunaga’s abrupt exit from the ambitious project.

09:00 - The Get Down - Jimmy Smits To Star In Baz Luhrmann’s Netflix Music Drama
Jimmy Smits has been tapped for a key role in Baz Luhrmann’s music-driven drama for Netflix The Get Down.
Set in 1970s New York City, the series — a long-time passion project for Luhrmann — revolves around a ragtag crew of South Bronx teenagers who are wild in the streets — nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them, except one another. Smits will play Francisco Cruz, aka “Papa Fuerte,” a South Bronx political boss who delivers services the City fails to provide – jobs, housing, healthcare, etc. A big man with brass, he navigates downtown politics the same way he handles his uptown turf – with ease and a touch of deception. Whether it’s his niece’s desire for disco stardom or a recent immigrant’s struggle to grab a hold of the American dream, if you want something in the neighborhood, you come to Papa Fuerte.
“The Puerto Rican culture of the ’70’s Bronx plays such a large role in the story we are telling that the character of Papa Fuerte had to be played by an actor who could bring experience, gravitas and authenticity to the role,” Luhrmann said. “I know our entire cast is excited to have someone of Jimmy’s talent joining us on the journey we are undertaking. We are thrilled to have him on The Get Down.”
The setup of The Get Down — the story of how 1970s New York City on the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco told through the lives and music of several South Bronx teenagers — is familiar territory for Smits. Brooklyn born-and-raised, Smits, who is of Puerto Rican descent, spent his teens and early 20s in the city during the 1970s.
The 13-episode series from Luhrmann, Shawn Ryan and Sony Pictures Television, will debut in all Netflix territories in 2016.

Happy about GAF
ReplyDeleteDisappointed about the "IT" remake.
Sad about Cary Fukunaga and the IT movie. It is one of the best King books but finding someone to be Pennywise was always going to be hard as Curry was so good. Hope Cary Fukunaga gets a gig where he can do what he wants, from what I've seen of his work he is a talented director with a hell of a lot of potential.
ReplyDeleteReally delighted Grace and Frankie has been renewed! Was complaining just the other day on this very site that we hadn't heard anything yet.
That HBO VA Hospital series sounds potentially great, HBO does war related shows very well.
I am not sold on that Point Break trailer but I love watching extreme sports. Most especially those insane, balls to the wall, snow boarders. I'll have to watch it.
ReplyDeleteI think I've watched the Art of Flight a dozen times.
Super pleased about G&F being renewed. :) Such a great show.
ReplyDeleteWasn't C Pines going for the Green Lantern role? Now Steve Trevor?
ReplyDeleteGod knows what is going down at DC. I still hope Scott Eastwood is in the game, dig him more these days than CP.
The Gorburger Show: TJ Miller is a good voice actor but his own comedy doesn't really work for me, so I dunno about this...
ReplyDeleteI can see Chris Pine as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman though IMO the character needs someone with a more "boyish" looks in the part... But I do like CP so I'm okay with it *shrugs*
Girl Meets World
- Yay! Josh is back! Betcha he catches the girls at the party... or he's the reason they're going to the party in the first place.
- LOL at Ava. I'm sure she'll freak Topanga out! Also I do hope the kids don't go on a spiel about they don't "deserve" detention. They deserve detention most of the time...
- So... wait! Is Johnathan the principal at the school? That would be so neat! I wonder who is playing the "new" English teacher... whoever it is I hope she stays around and is a recurring character. The kids need more classes to attend on a regular basis.
Cassius & Clay has a kickass voice cast, but I dunno. Primetime animation can be such a hit and miss for me...
I've already said this about Tilda Swinton's possible casting in Doctor Strange: "I love (her) and I know she'll do great, and I'm all for the gender bending, but I think I would have liked an Asian character a bit better. I feel this is Marvel trying to prove they are progressive and diverse and kinda missing the mark, with choosing to gender bend but whitewashing the character in the process..."
Huh... I mean I know Switched At Birth is quite an "acclaimed" show, but I still feel that bith John Michael Higgins and Paula Marshall are quite big "gets" for them. Not bad SaB... not bad at all...
Unarmed sounds super "meh" in its concept but I think in HBO it might turn into something interesting.
Bummed to hear that news about IT and Cary Fukunaga... makes me less interested in the project even if it does eventually go through.
I've been really enjoying The Comedians and those two final episodes sounds like they're gonna be loads of fun and in tune with how the whole season has shaped up.
It felt needless of a reboot from the get go, but on top of that Point Break actually looks pretty bad.
Happy about Grace and Frankie getting a second season. Granted I've only seen like 2 episodes, and even though I'm not as blown away by the show as I was expecting to be I am enjoying it and I do think it deserves the renewal.
