Update 1:
The good news is that Shearer’s characters will most definitely continue, albeit with a different actor playing his iconc roles. “We do not plan to kill off characters like Burns and Flanders but will recast with the finest voiceover talent available,” Jean said.

This because I wanted what we've always had: the freedom to do other work.
Of course, I wish him the very best. (2/2)

Thanks, Simpsons fans, for your support.

Characters he voiced include:
Ned Flanders
Principal Skinner
Mr Burns
Waylon Smithers
Lenny
Jasper
Otto
Kent Brockman
Reverend Lovejoy
Julius Hibbert.
F*ck.
ReplyDeleteso they'll just write all those character out or have someone else do the voices?
ReplyDeleteWHAT?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteIt's unknown what's going to happen. In the past when voice actors have died/left they retired the characters other then non-voiced background appearances. However they were all characters that could easily be written out/not appear (eg Lionel Hutz, Troy McClure, Maude Flanders and Edna Krabappel).
ReplyDeleteYeah he voiced quite a few main characters, I really can't see how they could write out all of them.
ReplyDeleteGood lucky replacing Harry Shearer. He voiced way to many central characters whose voices are in every episode. I know they have covered for the loss of voices when their actor/actress has actually died but this time I am curious to see how they deal with this. You can't silence that many characters and never have them talk ever. Sucks for Harry Shearer but I support him and I hope he finds more work. I have fond memories of The Simpsons but truth be told it's time for the show to go out back and have it's finale good bye before it kicks the bucket. At the rate this show is going I'll be a retired (and I'm only 29) and elderly and the show will still be going original voice actors or not.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Some I could see written out (Kent Brockman and Jasper). But the others are iconic. Mr Burns, Principal Skinner and Ned Flanders in particular.
ReplyDeleteOuch ! I knew something like that was gonna happen one day in the US too.
ReplyDeleteWe can't blame him for wanting to do something else after 26 years.
In France, a lot of voices has changed since the beginning. Including almost of theses voices and Bart.
Thank god Homer and Marge still have the same voice everywhere, it would be a disaster.
Ugh can this show end then.
ReplyDeleteSo just thinking about it further...counting everyone that has left/died in the past few years
ReplyDeleteThe neighbors are now gone.
The school is basically gone other then the students and Willie
The retirement home is gone other then Grandpa Simpson
Church, Work, the hospital and the news are all gone entirely.
What's left? The Simpsons family, the kids, the Kwik-E-Mart, Moe's tavern and the police station?
All the main characters he did were iconic. The show wouldn't be the same without any of them.
ReplyDeleteIn Germany they had to changed the (beloved) voices of Marge and Mr. Burns because the voice actors died (she 2006, he 2013).
ReplyDeleteI think they should either end the show... which it should or move the simpsons from springfield, start fresh and add new characters.
ReplyDeleteThey can't just replace him after all these years, why can't they just do the right thing and end it
ReplyDeleteI think they should. Maybe do a feature length episode to finish it.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it is even possible to use the audio of him voicing all the characters and use it for the future
ReplyDeleteDammit that's just wrong.
ReplyDeleteIn tribute, here is the complete McBain:

Wow. That's going to be weird.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is kinda when you know you should put the show to rest...
ReplyDeleteAnyhooo... good luck to everyone.
Although he will be missed, I can't say I would blame any of the voice over actors from walking away, even with those freakin' awesome salaries. Two and a half decades of doing this might become tedious at some point for anyone. The cast has now made a significant fortune by now so it's not a reach to say that money (an extra million here or there) is no longer the main motivation for many of them.
