The Mysteries of Laura - Renewed for a 13 Episode 2nd Season

9 May 2015

NBC will have at least one returning series from its 2014-15 class: The Mysteries of Laura.

The Mysteries of Laura ranks as NBC's fourth-most-watched series, notching more than 8.2 million viewers a week. The second-season renewal is for 13 episodes and comes as the series will undergo a creative retooling with more of a procedural focus on the crime element and less on the mom story that made the show a critical punching bag.

  2. Not surprised. This show was stated earlier today to be in final negotiations.

Fridays is likely it's next stop.

What do they have left to announce? AD, and Odyssey right?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Hell yeah! I'm so happy about this new! :)))))))

    ReplyDelete
  5. Good news for the fans. I hope the creative retooling goes as expected and doesn't ruin what fans love about the show.

  6. Hah knew it after that bloodbath earlier

    ReplyDelete
  7. What's the point of renewing it for 13 episodes? I mean, good for the fans, it's better than nothing, but it will be miles away from syndication

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think. I think odyssey will get the can and it will be close with A.D

    ReplyDelete
  9. Saving face and it can time share with Game of Silence maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Deadline mentioned it, they packaged it with Undateable. WB wouldn't let them have Undateable without it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes,both of them.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That makes more sense; Undatable is the only comedy marginally succesful thios year for them, so they couldn't ditch it no matter what. Besides, it became insanely cheaper now that is a live show

    ReplyDelete
  13. Some of the weirdest renewals this year.

    ReplyDelete
  14. And technically NBC doesn't have to say anything about either show because they are still early in their runs. If NBC is planning on axing one or both, and doesn't want the negative press, they can just say the jury is still out and a decision will be made later.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Undateable basically became live improv with a script, so it was a huge asset to their schedule. If they can get a few major guest stars on the show and publicize it well, they can get some decent ratings for a very low production cost (compared to scripted comedies). It was worth keeping The Mysteries Of Laura.

  16. It is a procedural, if it shows a ratings improvement, NBC can order 9 more episodes. If it is a disaster than they are only stuck with 13 episodes. If CBS is not going to change their minds about Madam Secretary, they would wise to at least only renew the show for 13 episodes as well for the exact same reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Laura wasn't A bad show either lol i liked it the way it is. I don't think retooling it will be fun

    ReplyDelete
  18. They only renewed it so they don't become the network who didn't renew a single freshman.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lol, no.

    ReplyDelete
  20. My mom will be happy. She loves this show.

    ReplyDelete
  21. And here I thought this would be the first cancellation of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Renewing flop show just to have a freshman renewed, pathetic. When a show hits 0.9 on NBC in 1st Season, what rating can it get n season 2?
And to think Revolution was cancelled and this got it's spot :(

If they rather ordered new pilot, Warrior or Fuentes Women, i believe they could get much better ratings

    ReplyDelete
  23. Seeing NBC renewing a show, that is constantly beaten by a CW show in its timeslot, to save face makes me say "oh, how the mighty have fallen" lol

    ReplyDelete
  24. And also i still think they could have rather renew Constantine if they needed to renew freshman. I feel like it could have improved it's ratings if given better slot, i doubt Laura can go up

Very much a pity "we don't want to cancel every freshman show" renewal from NBC.

  27. Goodbye Revenge 😢 2011-20159 May 2015 at 09:09

    Lol I knew it!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm happy since Laura is the only NBC show I watch

    ReplyDelete
  29. Might bother catching up during the summer then...

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm guessing it will air in the Fall and Chicago Med will replace it if it doesn't get a full season.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 13 eps... This is such an obvious pity renewal lol. Good luci with those sub 1s NBC, they will sure make you a lot of money! But in any cass, good for the fans!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm not sure if Laura has any fans....

I'm curious how they schedule this and their other series though.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ur so unfair Bahar. The show really needs it. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  34. Kind of like MS and its 1.0, the upside is just hard to understand. Both shows were given plenty of opportunities to settle in and audiences passed. Both finish last in time slot, didn't improve the time slot from prior year and have little critical acclaim.

    ReplyDelete
  35. This has to be one of my biggest misses, I was sure this was getting cancelled. I can't make any sense of it apart from the fact that NBC wanted to renew a freshman and this made more sense than AD.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey, don't forget the people in the retirement homes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Next season they won't even have a genre show to pair with Grimm, if they don't order Warrior.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Me too, lol

    ReplyDelete
  39. Potential summer move?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Do you really expect the ratings to improve?

    ReplyDelete
  41. That's plain extortion, lol

    ReplyDelete
  42. Deadline reports that WB forced this up on NBC with Undateable, which would suggest they are learning from Sony. I think that is probably an exaggeration but it likely helped too. And then it was probably down to Bob's stupidity of wanting a pity renewal. I think they should air this sunday midseason after The Biggest Loser and call it a day

  43. Gabriel Costa9 May 2015 at 12:12

    OH MY GOD

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree that Laura's renewal probably made more sense for NBC because I'm assuming they lost a lot of money on AD since they won the rights to broadcast the series in a bidding war.

I doubt its current ratings are even close to offsetting the costs already shelled out for the series let alone the cost another season would entail.

  45. Gabriel Costa9 May 2015 at 12:12

THANKS NBC I LOVE YOU I DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING

    ReplyDelete
  46. At least Marc Berman will be happy.

He's been calling for TMOL's renewal from day 1.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Gabriel Costa9 May 2015 at 12:18

FOR ALL THOSE WHO SAID OR WANTED TO TMOL BE CANCELLED SUCK IT

    ReplyDelete
  48. That's why i thought they would pick Fuentes Women. It sounded quite mysterious so i thought they would make great pair

    ReplyDelete
  49. I called it, but was told that I was being silly...

    ReplyDelete
  50. This is good news!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Twitter has indicated that NBC passed on Warrior.

And they haven't pick up Strange Calls. They have 10 episode Apocalypse that could be a potential match in terms of genre shows. However, I really think that NBC will not make Grimm a priority. They'll midseason it and stick it wherever there's space. I'm not sure if it got a full 22, but after hitting a 0.9, that order is going to likely be trimmed.

    ReplyDelete
  52. NBC has a lot of limited episode series. Game Of Silence, Neil Patrick Harris, Heroes: Reborn, Shades Of Blue etc. which is going to be complete havoc on the schedule. By the time February rolls around, NBC is going to have an almost completely new schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Matthew Zamora9 May 2015 at 14:23

There's that renewal lol... So midseason I guess

    ReplyDelete
  54. My proposal:

    Fall
    Monday
    : The Voice | Blindspot
Tuesday: The Voice | Telenovela | Superstore | Chicago Fire*
Wednesday: SVU | Shades of Blue | Chicago PD
Thursday: Heroes | The Player | The Blacklist
Friday: Dateline | Emerald City | Grimm or Wolf Reality | Grimm | Dateline

Late fall: The Voice | NPH | Chicago Fire

    Winter
    Monday
: Supersong or Strong | Blindspot
Tuesday: NPH | Telenovela | Superstore | Chicago Fire
Wednesday: SVU | Chicago Med | Chicago PD
Thursday: Heroes | The Player | The Blacklist
Friday: Dateline | Emerald City | Grimm or Wolf Reality | Grimm | Dateline

    Spring
    Monday
    : The Voice | Blindspot
Tuesday: The Voice | Coach | Crowded | Chicago Fire
Wednesday: SVU | Chicago Med | Chicago PD
Thursday: The Celebrity Apprentice | The Player | The Blacklist
Friday: Dateline | Emerald City | Grimm or Wolf Reality | Grimm | Dateline
Sunday: The Biggest Loser (2 hours) | Laura

Game of Silence can probably replace either Blindspot or The Player in case one of them flops.Heartbeat is missing but I have no clue what to do with that one.

  55. I'm surprised you're pitching a late fall premier for NPH, when that's the type of scheduling that doomed (and killed) State of Affairs.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I had that exact same type of fear when typing this lol. However, I see it as being different. We would be talking about 2 or 3 airings post Voice in late fall and that is for a show that would be zero serialized. It would be like a preview, if you want, much in the veins, of say, what ABC is doing with Beyond the Tank in May right now. They can then promote the hell out of its "timeslot premiere" in January. My reasoning is that if people end up sampling it and after the voice and then go back for it in January, cool, that is the goal. If they don't, too bad. But I doubt there wouldn't be people sampling it in January because they would say "hey, we've already missed December episodes, so let's not bother" which is kind of what I think happened with SOFA. In addition, I feel that launching a variety themed show close to the holidays is thematically a better fit than a drama. Holidays are a good season for these shows.

  58. I don't see the point of likely crippling their biggest new platform with a uneven and late fall/early winter schedule.

Besides, NBC can try "First Dates" in the Winter as Tuesday 8pm filler, so there's no need to stretch NPH into that awkward situation.

    ReplyDelete
  59. You can regard it as winter schedule entirely. I would prefer a couple of post voice previews in late fall before, but if not, winter entirely. But in any case, as I explained before, I do not think it would be crippling it, since I can only see benefit and no disadvantage.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Disadvantage would be it would start and stop through the holidays and changing time slots for the winter.

I believe NPH's show will simply just be in the fall.

There's rumor that NPH himself will be at NBC's upfront presentation, so I don't see a scenario where his show is held until winter (or late fall for that matter). There's too much fanfare and hype being built up.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I am fine with that but then, the only scenario I like is it timesharing with Heroes and pushing Heroes to midseason.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Another unlikely scenario.

NBC seems to have every intention to give both Heroes and NPH a slot in the fall, and honestly they have more than enough open slots after this disastrous season.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Unless they cut comedies altogether in the fall, which I find a bad idea for the most part and a very long shot, I don't like any scenario that involves doing that. I am not going for "likely" here, but for "recommended"

    ReplyDelete
  64. Gotcha.

My only suggestion at this point is to brace yourself for the worst tomorrow when Greenblatt unleashes the actual schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Jhonas Rodrigo9 May 2015 at 16:19

Revolution was so much better and was canceled.

    ReplyDelete
  66. To be honest, NBC schedule is such a dump fire that I don't find myself getting strongly annoyed with whatever they do at this point. I have a much bigger investment in say, ABC schedule. Part of that is for objective reasons (NBC being in such a poor state schedule wise that I don't feel they can do much worse) and part of it is for subjetive reasons (the only fall shows I watch on NBC will be blacklist and grimm, but neither is exactly my favorite show, and then I am interested in a few new things but I am not that much invested yet). So while I may seriously hate what he does tomorrow, I won't be actively bothered with it afterwards imo, he made a pretty gob at lowering my expectations.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yes! I hope the show change a bit

    ReplyDelete
  68. Grimm is on Fridays.
