Update: 19:10 Thanks to darkness for the heads up that Damon Dayoub is also to be recast.
Damon Dayoub, who was set to play the male lead, opposite Mireille Enos, is being recast, Variety has learned. The actor is set for a long recurring arc in crime procedural “Stitchers,” premiering this June on ABC Family.

What is the reasoning behind this?
ReplyDeleteWondering who will be the replacement I think they just wanted a different actress
ReplyDeleteSad, I was hoping to see her come back but I hope they'll find another great actress (Sarah Michelle Gellar is still available!)
ReplyDeleteAnd there goes my reason for tuning in!
ReplyDeleteThe trailer was good, but I was mostly looking forward cause of BJL.
First Songbyrd and now this? BJL just can't get a break.
ReplyDeleteShe would have made it a lock for me to watch. I'll still give it a shot but no guarantee I'll keep watching.
ReplyDeleteShe has one of the reasons I was going to watch this show. The trailer was really underwhelming, so I am not so sure if I am going to watch it now. Will still check out the pilot, at least.
ReplyDeleteWhy do Netwiorks allow this? I would think recasting to someone else would change the show quite a bit and not really be the show it was when it was picked up.
ReplyDeleteI'll still give this show a chance since it's a Shonda Rhimes show, but my excitement just went way down. She was the whole reason why I wanted to watch it!
ReplyDeleteWhat was her part on the show? I'm bad with names.
ReplyDeleteShe played Kieren's wife.
ReplyDeleteBecause they think that a certain actor is not a right fit for the roll.
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect, she's not great and this role will need a someone stronger to work. Now many pilotes have been rejected, they may grab a bigger name.
ReplyDeleteIf this was not a Shonda show, The Catch would not work at all. It simply isn't one of her better ideas. I'm not surprised about the recasting, but there were bigger problems than this particular actress. It seems like a scapegoat when there is a much bigger problem.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time it's obligatory as the show pickup is contingent on there being structural changes to what was presented in the pilot. A piece of the project is appealing (in this case Shonda's name), but the product presented was not up to par with what they wanted. There are exceptions, like second option casting.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteShe's actually a very good actress and has been in contention for several roles. On the bonus, she has a significant fanbase from her earlier work on her teen drama, which is in her favor. I don't see this show having much longevity as it is.
ReplyDeleteIf it weren't for ME, I wouldn't bother. I just don't see how the premise works for more than a season - ooh she's a fraud investigator who becomes a fraud victim. Eh, not really feeling that there are major stakes in that to sustain a series for the long-term. Frankly, I see the same issue with HTGAWM - no way S2 can be as intriguing as S1, which I loved. Going forward they either extend the original storyline over years or come up with a new murder, which won't have the personal impact on Analise. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the entire TGIT line-up sees significant drops after a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteTotally disagree. She was quite good in OTH.
ReplyDeleteRespectfully, she was actually really good in OTH as mentioned below.
ReplyDeleteI really liked her in OTH and on GL.
ReplyDeleteThat's really odd.I was looking forward to watching her after OTH.
ReplyDeleteWhatever the case may be but I feel really bad for the actors when such a thing happens to them. Work hard, struggle against odds, finally land a role, shoot a pilot, show gets picked for series then you get recast - I imagine myself in that situation and all I can see is soul crushing disappointment.
ReplyDeleteUgh she was like 60% of the reason I wanted to watch :( I really hope she gets another role soon :(
ReplyDeleteDo you think she's going to be replaced by a woman of color ? Because I do. (I have nothing against it but if it's the only reason... it's kinda cruel for Bethany, although she seems to deal great with it, and Shonda Rhimes always put some people of color in her shows and I don't think there is one in The Catch for now)
ReplyDeleteThis makes no difference to me. The Catch is a borderline show for me anyway. I'll give it one or two episodes at the most to show me something. My expectations are fairly low.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know Bethany was in this, my reason for watching is Mireille Enos, but I would've liked to see her in Something new. This is such a horrible thing to do to an actor, they work hard, they land a part, the pilot get's picked, and then they recast them? That just wrong.
ReplyDeleteAnd she is a great actress!
ReplyDeleteNow the male lead is also replaced with a new one!
ReplyDeleteWhat on earth is going on here?!?
Well, I didn't really like him anyway... as long as they don't recast Mireille I'm in.
ReplyDeleteThey are recasting the male lead, too? This show must be a mess.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the Variety article, Dougray Scott's role on Quantico is being recast as well.
ReplyDeleteNot Dougray Scott! I love him! And I was really looking forward to Quantico! I mean, I still am and I'll still watch it, but he was a definite plus for me...
ReplyDeleteAll five networks cast and shoot nearly all of their pilots at the same time. The entire process is absurd.
ReplyDeleteWow replacing the male lead is a big thing!!!! I mean the whole chemistry of the show is based on him and the female leads interaction.
ReplyDeleteThe pilot has to be reshoot for most of the parts. Interesting. Can't believe they didn't thought of scheduling before this.
I don't think him being recast has anything to do with Stitchers. The first season of that has already been shot. Variety just mentioned his role in it, that's all.
ReplyDeleteWhat does that have to do with recasting?
ReplyDeleteHe is recurring in Stitchers so The Catch should be first in position. Like Isaid, I think it has nothing to do with Stitchers, maybe ABC didn't like him in the role.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think the article is trying to lessen the sting of the actor being recast.
ReplyDeleteDisappointed that Bethany is being recast, as she was the main reason I wanted to watch this show, but hearing that the male lead is also being recast lessens the blow a bit. That tells me that they're basically doing a complete overhaul of the show. Probably because they found out it wouldn't be airing until midseason, so they have much longer to find the "perfect" cast with the right chemistry.
ReplyDeleteMost likely. So no matter Shonda wants to produce it will be produced.
ReplyDeleteShonda is the only reason this show was picked up anyways.
ReplyDeleteHe was the only reason why I wanted to watch this show. :-(
ReplyDelete" a different type for Zoe"
ReplyDeleteMaybe they want older actors.
No, I heard that the script was good.
ReplyDeleteThe complaint I've seen from different sites for the male lead is that he does not look intelligent for role. They say it's as if he's a fratboy or fresh off college.
ReplyDeleteShe needed a follow up, so she would rule the whole Thursday.
ReplyDeleteThis has cluster f*** written all over it.
ReplyDeleteoh thank god
ReplyDeleteMy main reason for watching this was BJL I love her, now I don't know if I'll bother. I may still give it a shot since it's Shonda Rhimes.
ReplyDeleteWell, Bethany Joy Lenz was pretty much the only reason I wanted to check out The Catch so I guess that's that.
ReplyDeleteI find this whole recasting process quite brutal, especially now that the trailers are out.
Did anyone else see when Bethany announced on her instagram that the show got picked up she wrote something about how she's excited to finally be on a show that's on a real network?? It was only up briefly and then edited out.. When I first heard she'll be recast I thought maybe they didn't like that but if the male lead is getting recast who knows what's going on with this show. Idk I just thought that was strange..
ReplyDeleteIn the case of Damon Dayoub: it's interesting how a long recurring arc has first position over a series regular role...
ReplyDeleteBummer for BJL. She's not a bad actress, and this would have been nice break for her. Oh well...
Oh no! He was one of the reasons that show was even on my radar... :(
ReplyDeleteThere goes my main reason for watching The Catch. Was really looking forward to seeing BJL again. The trailer was actually quite good, but she was still my main reason behind viewing. So unless they cast someone I really like in either of the two open roles, I probably won't bother watching, unless it gets some really good reviews / word of mouth after it premieres.
