It’s been barely 48 hours since the CW passed on the Tales from the Darkside reboot, and I hear there are multiple outlets that have reached out to inquire about the project. I hear the list of the interested parties, none of which has seen the pilot yet, include cable networks Syfy, MTV, VH1 and possibly streaming service Hulu.
A remake of the 1980s horror/fantasy/thriller anthology series, Tales From The Darkside, starring Kris Lemche, hails from writer Joe Hill, producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and CBS TV Studios. With its anthology format, the project was considered a risky proposition for the CW but the pilot was well received and was in contention at the network.

Glad it's getting interest somewhere else, have no idea what it's actually like but I would've thought FX would be the best place for it. Would never have picked any of those networks.
ReplyDeleteCan't complain though, I'm just hoping it gets picked up at all, I was disappointed to just get 1/3 pilots I was interested in out of The CW.
As the only CW pilot aside from Dead People that I wanted to see picked up...excellent news. But, c'mon Netflix. Netflix over Hulu.
ReplyDeleteEek It might look cheap if it ends up on Syfy.
ReplyDeleteOMG YES!!! GOD IS REAL!! xD This and Kingmakers were the pilots I was looking forward to most!
ReplyDeleteVH1 seems like a weird choice. MTV would skew too young, the main character in each episode would be either a teenager or a 20 something. SyFy would be cool though. I like FX but they are not the only quality cable channel around and they already have two series that fit under the horror umbrella. TNT, USA, WGN, maybe one of those channels should have made a bid.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if Hulu gets enough original series they will ditch the commercials. Personally I think it would be great if both Amazon and Hulu become legit competitors to Netflix.
ReplyDeleteI agree though that FX would probably get the bigger names to guest star on the show than the networks I listed below, which would be a fun aspect in watching the series.
ReplyDeleteI get Hulu Plus for free with Bing Rewards, so I don't terribly mind the ads, at least for current series. It's only 8 or 9 mins of ads compared to 20 on TV. And if Hulu gets more and more good original series and need the ad revenue to keep doing it, fine by me. But Amazon, no I really dislike Prime and whenever they take rights for a show that Netflix had I get really annoyed. Plus, their original shows are not worth having the service so far. But I totally dig Netflix, I think right now their original programming would beat HBO if they didn't have GoT. I totally support Netflix growth and I hope they continue to dominate the market. The more subscribers they get and maintain the more original content they produce, and I love their approach of trying to do something for every niche.
ReplyDeleteActually applying at their new call center in my location soon, I love my job but Netflix is one out of maybe three corporations I actually like and support.
I agree about VH1 and MTV but I thought SyFy was a weird choice too, it's much more horror than sci-fi from what I know and doesn't really fit with the direction SyFy is going in. The fact FX already has horror shows is why I choose it. I don't think it would fit well with TNT or USA's audience. I wouldn't mind WGN though. It might work on Showtime too.
ReplyDeleteHadn't thought of that but it would be a really nice aspect of the show.
ReplyDeleteI can see Chiller picking this up as the channel is actually developing a scripted slate in their current expansion to doing original programming.
ReplyDeleteYep, This one has potential to go on any network. Now someone would be a dear and pick CDS (MTV im looking at you) and Kingmakers too
ReplyDeleteAgreed SyFy sounds odd to me too, but doesn't SyFy air all those Ghost Hunters series? Maybe they think it would grab that crowd?
ReplyDeleteI think HBO aired the original back in the day so maybe Showtime would enjoy taking it to spite HBO. XD
Yeah a bigger cable network would be better in terms of guest stars and budget.
ReplyDeleteActually any of those networks & streaming services sound like a better venue for the show.
ReplyDeleteAmazon Prime has many other perks other than just TV streaming.
ReplyDeleteWatch AbcF steal CDS and make it a Hit. Lmao
ReplyDeleteTales has potential but someone has to invest and bring up money for the rotating cast.
This could be a really good thing for this! It could in theory go places that it couldn't on network TV. Wish it the best in luck.
ReplyDeleteYa. SYFY as of late I think is trying to do Sci-fi, Fantasy, and Horror. They are doing a remake of People Under the Stairs, We Are All Completely Fine, and Disciples (this one is sci-fi horror). Helix certainly had a good chunk of horror elements mixed in too. It might not be a bad place to put this...
ReplyDeletePlease, please, please make this happen! I was really looking forward to this show and was really bummed when CW passed. Any of these venues would be good but I'm hoping for Hulu!
ReplyDeleteForgot about those other upcoming projects...
ReplyDeleteToss in Z-Nation and Bitten (which I forgot aired on SyFy)...Yeah, definitely seems like they are trying to go "genre" and not specifically Sci-Fi genre.
Oh for the good old days when even including reruns the Sci-Fi Channel aired Sci-Fi almost exclusively!
Good. From this year´s CW´s pilots, this one was the best.
