Wow we have no faith in the new shows XD

    ReplyDelete
  2. Is it even possible that we cold hearts renewed more shows than we cancelled?
Reign, VD are certainly wrong cancellations.
I hope Containment, Wicked CIty and TFC will survive the season.

    ReplyDelete
  3. This seems a lot more balanced than last year when the community predicted only 2 returning shows to be cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think we were harsher towards them last season. But not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  5. More than last year, where from the 37 shows predicted cancelled, 36 were new shows.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Only two of my possible new shows are in the predicted to be cancelled column. Bookmarking this.

  7. We seem to have a little more faith in new shows this year, although I still see a few misses from there. Life in Pieces will most likely be renewed since it has TBBT as lead-in and a great cast. Also Angel from Hell seems very compatible with Mom, so it might do well to (which poses the question that where CBS will air the three comedies it has left for midseason, if that does happen).
I really have no idea if having a great lead has any effect, but Rosewood has an African-American lead so it might attract some of Empire's crowd.

From the renewals, I think CMBB will be a goner just like CMSB. And it is not produced by CBS, so they won't be as lenient as they were with Cyber. Also, H50 snagged a renewal this year, but it might not be so lucky next year.

  8. So many cancellations predicted or it just me? I don't really see why people expect CBS to cancel Cyber and Madam Secretary when they were happy to renew them this year with already low ratings. MS just got its Season 2 order upped in fact. I also have no idea why people expect the CW to cancel Reign after 3 seasons, in addition to Containment, Crazy and The Vampire Diaries - they won't cancel all that obviously. The ax also seems excessive to me over at FOX - they won't can so many comedies! Over at the renewal side, things seem more normal, although another renewal for Bones feels very unlikely, but we've been saying that for years.. Also, what is this The Coach show that is predicted renewal? I've only heard of the Coach and that is predicted cancelled!

    ReplyDelete
  9. But this year people seem way too aggressive with the sophomores instead! Cyber, Madam Secretary, Last Man on Earth, American Crime, Galavant and Laura. I don't remember a sophmore class ever being cancelled so massively.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think it is excessive the other way around this year

    ReplyDelete
  11. I very much doubt Angel from Hell is renewed and I will be surprised if it is on the air in February. The show is premiering in mid November when viewing levels are on the downside and TGIT is heating up to the fall finales. It gets to air for 3 regular weeks already a competent albeit modest Mom lead-in, then it gets to air on the ridiculously low rated thanksgiving, then it has a one week hiatus, and then it has to air in low viewed December when The Big Bang Theory will have to go on hiatus at some point an leave the night unsupported. If it leaves 2015 without going fractional I will be shocked.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It's been changed to "The Catch"

Also, I too think Madam Secretary won't be cancelled, they have faith in the show. They just gave it, I believe, a 24 episode order. The Last Man on Earth also won't be cancelled. FOX won't cancel all of their comedies.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ah lol obviously that makes sense, I hadn't realized that The Catch was missing.

    I agree with your comments.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The Last Man on Earth predicted cancelled? It did fairly well for FOX standards, unless it bombs completely I doubt it'll go away, besides it skews male and has a strong 18-34. I disagree completely with most people on this one

    ReplyDelete
  15. Reign is a head scratcher since its on its 3rd season, close to syndication and owned by CBS. People should know by now that it means it won't get cancelled. At worst it'll see a final 6 episodes season like Nikita.
TVD is getting a farewell season at the very least since it wasn't announced this season, the only way it is not getting it would be bombing to 0.2s, which I truly don't see happening.

Madam Secretary could get the axe, and Cyber as well, if they fall from where they are, so I don't really disagree with those guesses, but most of them seem fairly unfair and not really well thought out

    ReplyDelete
  16. People,Reigns not gonna get cancelled a season from syndication-Nikita,HoD,BatB all got fourth seasons despite similar ratings to Reign in s3,so will Reign

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree about Reign.Except this season,CW usually cancels four to five shows and with Hulu/Netflix deal & Tribune re negotiations , I don't expect them to cancel only two shows again.VD could very well be in its last season next season-ratings aren't that good anymore and if ratings fall more next season,Czw could do 90210 2.0& announce mid season that it's ending,

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well, most of the sophomores gave less than stellar performances this year and networks can only be so forgiving.
Galavant and American Crime's renewals will come out depending on how ABC judges their ability as bridges. Laura I see getting cancelled, especially since the NBC crop of shows doesn't look that bad (except for Heartbreaker). As for Cyber and MS, they don't have much room to fall. Will CBS really renew MS and Cyber if they start pulling sub 1s? And it's possible, since their lowest rated episodes were 1.0 and 1.2 respectively

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, HoD got renewed after pulling 0.2 on a Friday because it was on its 3rd season. There is no way in hell Reign is going to get cancelled this season.
Next season? Probably, but I expect them to announce it as the final season and that's not as much a cancellation as it is an ending

    ReplyDelete
  20. CBS knows the bed they are with MS and Cyber. Their ratings were already bad this year and they are content renewing them and airing them in their syndication farm nights. Clearly, the financials for these shows depend entirely on backend deals and not on ratings or they wouldn't have been renewed this year. If those were enough last year, why wouldn't they be enough this year?

Agree on Reign, it is quite insane to predict it cancelled

    ReplyDelete
  21. While I don't think it is impossible that they cancel The Vampire Diaries, the joint probability of them cancelling 2 out of their 3 newbies PLUS the vampire diaries (not to mention reign) is pretty damn low. Also, I have a feeling they will end TVD at the same time as The Originals so I think both will make it for now, even if downgrade to Fridays.

    ReplyDelete
  22. They didn't announce HoD as the final season and even went to the trouble of denying it when the actors did so I wouldn't hold my breath about the announcement

    ReplyDelete
  23. True, but they have announced several final seasons in the past (GG, Nikita, even 90210 when its ratings collapsed, they gave the show a time to wrap up).

HoD is the rare exception, and quite rare since this year it grew on demo and viewers on Fridays.

In any way, I expect Reign to get wrapped on its 4th season, one way or another; I don't think The CW will leave the story on a cliffhanger, their netflix deal pushes them to have endings rather than abrupt cancellations

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think it is 99.5% sure thing that next year MS, TGW, Cyber, TAR, Angel from Hell, Elementary and possibly H50 are going fractional. Yet, I still expect most of them to be renewed. That is the horrid schedule CBS built for itself. I think people need to realize that half of CBS schedule is not dependent on ratings, the shows are financed through other means. So it is a bit pointless to continue to use ratings as the main predictor there. So in answering your question, yes, I fully believe MS and Cyber will be renewed when they go sub 1.0.

I do agree on Laura and I also agree with what you said about the ABC bridge shows. But LMOE for instance is quite insane to be there.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I wouldn't be suprised if they cancelled two of three new shows-Legends seems the only one with a chance to do well-and VD.I hope next is VDs last cause I don't want it to be on til it gets 0.2-0.3-which could happen next season,it was getting 0.5-0.6 this spring. They won't cancel Reign.I just think in order to get a tribune to re sign,Czws gonna have to start being less lenient like they were this season and cancel more & put some of Tribunes shows on.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah, LMOE should not be there. It rates fine, it skews male, and it has a strong 18-34, there is no way it's not getting a 3rd season unless it starts pulling 0.7s out of nowhere (which won't happen, since it is glued on FOX's safest night).

As for CBS, I agree that rating is not the main factor. TGW will end whenever the creative team feels like it. The show makes tons of money on syndication, whatever rating it gets is a bonus it gets from ads revenue. Cyber has the intenation sales on its part, so maybe that will keep it around for some seasons. MS.... I'm not so sure, it was renewed back on January when its ratings were acceptable, and I'm not so sure what kind of deal CBS can get from it; if they manage to find a good deal I expect it to be back, but otherwise, I really don't know.

Elementary will be on the air no matter what. It make 3 millions on syndication! That's insanely high! TAR, is good enough of a Friday player and it can share its timeslot with Undercover Boss, so I see no problem on having it around.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I highly disagree about TAR. Keeping TAR on the air is what caused the ripple effect that led to the very solid rated Monday comedies having no place on the schedule. CBS has 6 syndication farm slots (Sunday + Friday) and they have 6 syndication bound shows (Cyber, Elementary, MS, TGW, BB, H50). By using up TAR on one of those slots, they forced Elementary's presence on a weekday and it ended with those broke girls and mike and mike and molly paying the price, which is pretty stupid. TAR has no business remaining on the schedule. Other than the cancelled Battle Creek and the Saturday-bound 48 Hours, TAR is CBS lowest rated program on the entire schedule and it doesn't even have syndication deals to back it up. It is insane that it is taking up the room from the comedies.

(Note: I am using syndication loosely here. I mean backend financial deals, like syndication, international sales, streaming services, etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  28. TAR doesn't always rate that bad, sometimes it manages to do 1.4s on Fridays, so I don't see it as "completely insane". I would have moved it to summer, but my guess is that it is a relatively cheap show (compared to scripted programming) that allows for some income on the night.

Sure, Elementary would be better off on Fridays, but it's not like CBS has a potent 9:30PM show on Thursdays to launch something yet. If there is a comedy success this season on the 9:30PM timeslot, or they finally decide to move 2 Broke Gilrs or Mike & Molly there, then I can see a new show being launched there, but until then, Elementary is a show that will keep bringing them money as opposed as a failure that would have to battle against How to get away with Murder.

  29. I AM SO EXCITED FOR FALL 2015!!! Fall 2014 seems like yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I believe you are confused. The Amazing Race sole 1.4 the entire year was on episode 4 of its fall cycle and it was a big outlier for the entire season. It never hit that number again the entire year other than when it aired after Survivor on Wednesday (and even then, it did only a 1.48) and even a 1.3 was only hit for the fall cycle finale. It average an atrocious 1.17 for the whole year, behind every single renewed show from CBS. That is pretty horrible!

I don't think a new show should be launched against How to Get Away with Murder. But I 100% believe LA should go there to take the bullet while Limitless should have been launched post Scorpion. To waste your 2nd biggest drama on what is essentially a middling syndication bound drama is very unwise. If they were adamant in not moving LA, then they should have stalled in November with the Thursdays 10pm slot and plugged filler in there (POI, Undercover Boss, whatever) and then launched something in January when there is no Murder, with M&M plugged at 9h30 to guarantee solid lead-in (Angel from Hell will be dead by the end of the fall regardless). Sticking with Elementary there is not the answer because there are consequences for doing it, such as the aforementioned result of the comedies being kept away from the schedule

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, it was a pretty bad pilot season

    ReplyDelete
  32. Those seem like pretty good predictions except for a couple. One I don't think no matter how well The X-files does we will not get another season. Both David and Gillian especially are very busy with other work. The second, even though I am a Bones fan it seems very unlikely they will get another season because FOX has put it on a unwinnable night and the chances that even if FOX has a terrible fall with their pilots I don't see David and Emily being convinced to come back. But then again I didn't think we would see a 11th season either so who knows. ( I realize Bones is an older show but FOX putting it on Thursday and not moving it even after their terrible spring numbers seems foolish if FOX really wanted to be competitive on Thursday night) Stranger things have happened though

    ReplyDelete
  33. basically, people think spin-offs, reboots, movies turned into series and famous producers are the only ways for new shows to be renewed ?? i'm guessing a lot of mistakes for next season.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I wish this was organized by the networks they air in.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, most of those sophomores are low rated and got renewed, so...

I love Castle dearly. But I truly think Season 8 is going to be the end.

    ReplyDelete
  37. TVD Cancelled? Not happening. It will get a final short 8th season.I think Reign will be renewed too for a final 4rth season. So these two are definitely wrong predictions IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mark my words, there is going to be some "Predicted to be Cancelled" show that will come out of nowhere and pull Empire ratings this coming season.

I wasn't around when the polls were going around last year but I remember seeing Empire as Predicted to be Cancelled. Wonder what next year's surprise will be. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks for the new table!

As usual a lot of newbies on the canceled column, but I feel we're being a bit harsh on the sophomore class too... Wereas we're being willfully unaware about most of the seniors...

    ReplyDelete
  40. The Player seems to be better than the trailer suggests, also believe that crazy ex girlfriend will do better than expected. I wonder if one or two comedies will pull through.

    ReplyDelete
  41. But that is exactly my point. If they were already low rated and networks were still fine to renew them, why would things be different now? I understand it in a case like Laura in which the renewal was because NBC didn't have anything else to renew and there were bundling and whatsoever but in most of the others I don't get it. Why would CBS be content to renew Cyber and Madam for Season 2 with their already low ratings but not to carry them to syndication?
