We are used to long breaks between instalments of BBC1 detective drama Sherlock, but it seems the wait for season four might not be as long as we'd thought. Star Amanda Abbington, who plays Mary Morstan in the hit drama, and the show's creator Steven Moffat have revealed that the drama will start filming again in spring 2016.

Mmm, must be late spring. Doctor Strange is meant to start filming at the end of November. The Marvel movies tend to take about 5~ months to film. Including the Christmas and New Year break I'd estimate May perhaps?
ReplyDeleteBut even after they finish filming the season it will be a long time before we get it in America - maybe early 2017 ?
ReplyDeleteSucks for the fans of the show. I could never wait this long for one of my shows. Plus only 3 episodes a season?
ReplyDeleteSo, the last season ended in January 2014 and the next season will only premiere in late 2016/early 2017? Wow, I'm glad I don't watch this show
ReplyDeleteWell on the plus side it's phenomenal.
ReplyDelete"Might not be as long as we'd thought"? Are you kidding me? It's going to come again in 2017 at the earliest...
ReplyDeleteSame. 3 years wait for the next season? Even some movies are able to release a sequel a year.
ReplyDeleteI read that line and rolled my eyes lol
ReplyDelete:( well at least there's a special episode on Christmas!(?)!
ReplyDeleteIt is well worth it.
ReplyDeleteWell that's a bummer. I swear I remember reading that the Christmas Special would air and then Series 4 would premier right after like it has the past two series in the beginning in January. So basically after what seems to be a non-canon special we have to went another year to pick up from the end of S3.
ReplyDeleteThis is the reason why I never complain about 4-5 weeks breaks for shows here in the States or how seasons are which is Sep-May and then a 4 month break.
We are looking at 3 year break in between Series 3 and Series 4 of Sherlock.
3 episodes of 90 minutes each, basically 3 movies.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's not long at all!
ReplyDeleteNow seriously, I love this show, but this extra long waits are such a downer...
Each episode is around 90 minutes. It's basically three films.
ReplyDeleteWell I sure wish it wasn't going to take so long, but with the actors' schedules we're quite lucky this show comes together at all. And with the past 3 seasons an indicator, it'll be worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteMy enthusiasm for this show has been slowly dwindling ever since series three chose glorified fan-service over actual story. It's an over-rated show, in my opinion - it seems to only survive off the gratuitous hype it gets (by that I mean, for example - the fact that they teased the announcement of the special for an entire week before actually announcing it).
ReplyDeleteSo, a 3 year wait?
ReplyDeleteMeh. I'm done.
What? I thought that Season 4 would start in January 2016... Lol, i guess i should just forget about the show until it's actually on TV.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marvel!
ReplyDeleteI don't passionately wait for Sherlock. I only take notice when people start buzzing. Maybe that will be a better way to save heartache.
ReplyDeleteDamn that's a long way/ I will just keep holding on to start the series.
ReplyDeleteIf you ask a wolf he would tell you that you can watch it same day when UK gets it.
ReplyDelete"it seems the wait for season four might not be as long as we'd thought."
ReplyDeleteNo, this is considerably longer than I thought it'd be. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there usually roughly a year-and-a-half between the airing of each season? By the time season four will be airing at this rate, it'll be just under three years since the airing of season three.
I know everyone involved with this show is busy with numerous other projects, but come on! This is just ridiculous.
We've seen shows be cancelled, have their sets and offices completely dismantled, acquired by another station, rebuilt, creatively reinvigorated, and finished airing an unexpected revival season in less time than it takes Sherlock to produce three episodes. The only show that has Sherlock beat is Arrested Development.
I wouldn't survive
ReplyDeleteman this is a long wait for great TV! Its worth it.
ReplyDeleteEh, I still think they could get it out much earlier. I think it's more the actors' schedules than anything though. 90 minutes is a little over 2 episodes of a normal hour long show(Minus commercials of course) and while you could argue about the quality being better than most shows, it certainly isn't better than all shows that got out an episode every week. It certainly is a great show though.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's a mistake and it's said about season 5 not 4? It would make no sense if they said that season 4 would be aired in the beginning of 2016 and now that it's going to be filmed in spring 2016 and 'it seems the wait for season four might not be as long as we'd thought'. Maybe it's about a break between season 4 and 5- season 4 in early 2016 and season 5 filmed right after that.
ReplyDeletespring 2016?? does that mean season 4 will only air in 2017??? is this a joke??? i will have given up on that show by then honestly.... i may be a fan but that's pushing my patience!! 3 years in between the seasons??? that's ridiculous!! i don't even care there's a special in between the seasons!! let's see how many people will remember to turn up in the end!!!
ReplyDeletethere's no plus side to this!! seriously!! I'm outraged how long it takes to film new seasons... if the main actors are that busy they never should have cast them in the first place!! I suspect had someone else been cast we would ended up loving them as well...
ReplyDeletei was expecting january 2016 not january 2017. this is absurd!
ReplyDeleteand what good is that?? i know it's better than nothing but i'm so angry i'm about give up on that show altogether it's not worth my patience... it's a good show but not good to wait 3 years in between the seasons
ReplyDeleteI would like it if Season 5 would take only a year to come. Season 4 2017 and Season 5 2018 or they probably should end it cause It's horrible to wait so long for 4 and a half hours of matearial...
ReplyDeleteRight. You'll be back.
ReplyDeleteNobody had heard of Benedict Cumberbatch before Sherlock. And Martin Freeman was very minor as well (The Office, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy).
ReplyDeleteTheir careers exploded thanks to Sherlock, not before.
Here's the door:
ReplyDeletego ahead open it.
The fact that you took time to find an image of a door baffles me.
ReplyDeleteIt's commitment.
