A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.
BATTLE CREEK, "Sympathy for the Devil", May 24, 2015, Actors: Josh Duhamel, Dean Winters and more, The Scene: The final scene
Milo MJ: The final scenes of the last Battle Creek episode, "Sympathy for the Devil," with Milt's Russian roulette against Casey's Dad. The Rolling Stones music, although used so frequently in shows, was effective here and the laugh at the end when Russ told Milt that it was going to be okay and Milt said "I know." Whilst it wasn't the best show on TV it was a fun cop show and I'll miss it, with the ending scene being a pretty awesome conclusion.
BETWEEN, "Who's the Boss", May 28, 2015, Actors: Jennette McCurdy and more
The Scene: The final montage
Milo MJ: The montage with all the characters at the end burying the dead. This was handled well, with an emotional, effective end to Episode 2, and some nice background music. It's not quite a must-watch show yet but this episode featured a pretty good ending.
GAME OF THRONES, "The Gift", May 24, 2015, Actors: Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey and more, The Scenes: Tyrion meets Dany & Cersei is imprisoned
Justyna K: There were already quite a lot of moments on the show when some characters almost meet, but often something stands in their way. So I was both surprised and absolutely excited to watch Jorah and Tyrion finding Dany. Jorah's impressive fight and then Tyrion's introduction make it one of this season's (possibly series) most memorable moments and my scene of the week. For all the elements working perfectly together: the acting, the reactions, the setting, the music, the meaning and the potential dynamics change of the show. "My Name is Tyrion Lannister." For once the two people you can actually root for meet and it could go in so many different directions. And since many of my favorite parts of GoT include Tyrion and his brilliant speeches, I absolutely can't wait for next episode! Peter Dinklage is a real scene-stealer and his interactions with Emilia Clarke can be one of the best ones on the show yet. Kudos!
Milo MJ: The Ridley Scott's Gladiator-esque moment in this week's Game of Thrones. Jorah and Tyrion in the pits and Tyrion's "My Name is Tyrion Lannister" reveal to Dany was awesome. Great first meeting between two characters that contributed to one of the strongest moments in the season so far.
Jamie Coudeville: What's that saying 'You reap what you sow'. This totally fit Cersei. Nice to finally see a bit of karma come her way.
ORPHAN BLACK, "Community of Dreadful Fear and Hate", May 30, 2015, Actors: Tatiana Maslany, Maria Doyle Kennedy and more, The Scenes: Alison gives her school trustee speech while Sarah talks to Mrs. S & Helena fights Mrs. S
Tonya Papanikolas: What a great mix of scenes about family. It was nice to see Alison recognize people in her life like Felix who act like family. At the same time, I loved the touching moment between Sarah and Mrs. S. It's rare to see Sarah confide in Mrs. S. like that, with total trust, showing her true emotions. It was nice to see such an emotional reaction to Paul's death. And I loved hearing her call Mrs. S. her mother for the first time. Plus, it was gratifying to see Alison come through with a great speech. This scene mixing was a wonderful touch.
Nirat Anop: It was really great, it had all the nice moments I love seeing on Orphan Black mixed together in a cohesive piece. Alison's speech was true to who she is and I loved how she said "I will be your Mother Hen" and how her face lit up.
Jamie Coudeville: I was worried about Mrs. S here. Helena could definitely take her. I loved the hug at the end. Helena needs a mother figure in her life.
OUTLANDER, "To Ransom a Man's Soul", May 30, 2015, Actors: Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, The Scene: Claire tells Jamie she's pregnant
Nirat Anop: It was difficult trying to choose a scene from this episode. A truly harrowing and emotional episode but I loved how Claire told Jamie she was pregnant and in that moment he felt happiness, something he thought not possible in light of the horribly traumatic assault that happened to him. The final shots of Claire and Jamie were beautiful, hopeful and with the score and scenery, it made the ending a happy one. One we will definitely need to keep us going through this Droughtlander.
WAYWARD PINES, "Our Town, Our Law", May 28, 2015, Actors: Terrence Howard and more
The Scene: The ending
Nirat Anop: I wasn't expecting the weird noises coming from beyond the wall and the one 'creature' to take away Sheriff Pope's body. I did love when Ethan's son hit Sheriff Pope with the car though. I am so intrigued and confused and most importantly, I'm loving how mysterious this all is.

Not many things to watch this week. Still...
ReplyDelete- My honorable mention would probably be "Cersei is imprisoned". Justice for once! It's a shame Tyrion wasn't there to witness it. But it's also great to see him in completely different place this season.
- I've also seen a few episodes of Battle Creek, including the finale, it's pretty good, too bad there's no season 2. And that final scene was great!
- I don't think I'm going to watch Outlander but I have the new episode of Orphan Black still waiting for me.
Have a great week, all! There's a few shows starting their first/new season in the next days ;)
Wayward Pines! My god this show is so weird and creepy yet so AWESOME! The whole episodes blew my mind and that was the first time in a very long time i jumped while watching a tv show.
ReplyDelete-Wayward Pines!!!! That ending was so so good, as was the entire episode. So far this show has had excellent endings to episodes.
ReplyDelete-Voted for Between as well, it was surprisingly intriguing.
-The conversation in Penny Dreadful between Mr. Lyle and Sir Malcolm was good too.
I'd imagine next week I'll have a lot of Sense8 scenes to talk about here! If the trailer is any indication.
Totally agree abour wayward pines! I wish we had more shows that were like wayward pines!
ReplyDeleteSame, I actually can't think of any like it off the top of my head. People were comparing it to Twin Peaks but I've never seen that. I'm kind of on the fence on if I want a season 2 or not. I don't want the quality to drop.
ReplyDeleteTrue. There is no other show like this one. This one combines mystery with suspense and a touch of horror. Exactly what i was looking for. The wait every week is hard though
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you've ever heard of this, but it reminds me a lot of a game called Dead Space, that creature thing at the end looked similar, and the tone is the same. I think my excitement for Sense8 is overpowering the wait for Wayward every week. I'm still really looking forward to WP though, I hope it doesn't have silly ending.
ReplyDeleteNo, I have never heard of that game ;) i did not expect that creature AT ALL but it just makes the show even more awesome. the twists are so shocking
ReplyDeleteIkr, as if killing the Sheriff wasn't enough of a shock, a creepy creature drags away his body! I have a feeling we'll see the Sheriff again somehow.
ReplyDeleteExactly my thoughts. I was already shocked when they killed off Beverly. I thought she would stay until the end. Samw goes for The Sheriff! I wonder who will be next
ReplyDeleteOutlander is very 'real' and yes - life can be brutal. The Season 1 finale is dark and difficult to watch; and your own mind supplies the worst of it. Ron Moore & team did an excellent job of portraying physical and mental abuse without having the camera so invasive to make it OTT.
ReplyDeleteI'm half expecting his son, wife or even him to die by the end of it. Anything could happen at this point.
ReplyDeleteMy picks:
ReplyDeleteiZombie: Liv realises that the Major she had been seeing for most of the episode was a delusional. Devastating especially when she sees his real reaction to zombies
Game of Thrones: Tyrion/Dany scene because I am so happy the show went there now unlike the books.
Orphan Black: Cosima's horrifically bad speech as Alison and then Alison managing to pull it together.
Choosing Orphan Black from your beautiful list.
ReplyDeleteAdding:
Penny Dreadful: Vanessa and Victor going shopping together. I mean, look at her smiling. Isn't she beautiful?

Poor Liv, maybe she should have come clean with Major before all this and he wouldn't have gotten so deep into all this.
ReplyDeleteBattle Creek The final scene
ReplyDeleteOrphan Black Allison's speech
And Other: VEEP the Secret Service lift Selina up from her chair and enclose her in a protective circle.
My Other is from Outlander, where Claire (Caitriona Balfe) fights to pull Jamie (Sam Heughan) back from the brink of suicide after the terrible events at the hands of Black Jack Randall
