'DEAD BIRDS' REVIEW

If we thought the last episode was a transitional one in sort of progressing the storyline, then "Dead Birds" certainly blows that one out of the water. We got many more answers in this episode than we did the last, and with only five more episodes to go after this one, it's a great thing indeed. Fortunately Increase's stay on Salem was a very fruitful one, and I will take a 2-episode appearance over no appearance at all. I kind of wish he could stay, but I guess that would defeat the purpose of Cotton killing him in the season one finale. They really made use of Stephen Lang as Increase and yet again, his scenes are quite spectacular. I love the eerie vibe of his presence and the frozen feeling I get whenever he just appears in a room. The photo to the left is testament to that. So the revelations in the episode were mainly about the Countess and what Mary has to do to defeat her. The episode begins (after a short continuation of the last episode where Increase appears to Cotton) with Increase telling Mary about Ingrid's background and her intentions. It seems she has taken many forms before she assumed the body of Lucy Lawless. We have to remember she is otherwise known as Hecate and she wants to be the Devil's Bride. This is quite chilling as we have seen in the show, love is a strong force and it adds a layer to Ingrid's villainy. The ending - as the episode comes full circle before Increase's time is up - reveals that Ingrid's soul, the box we saw surrounded by flames at the start, is actually the ship she voyages in. How Mary is going to destroy that is beyond me but I'm looking forward to seeing how Mary deals with this challenge.

"They just come to me."

And was I the only one who thought this episode emphasised the sheer creepiness of little John? I got a sense they would from the promo but damn, this episode really cranked it up a notch or three. I loved the aspect of the dead birds and what they symbolise, so the fact that they kept coming to the boy was another creepy aspect. There were also tons of dead birds in the woods on the way to the Crags so they are connected to this boy and the fact that the dark lord is within him. It was interesting to watch how Tituba turned very frightened of him when she burned his drawings and the dead birds hit the window. Loved that moment. I think little John could end up killing Tituba if Mary doesn't do it first for what she's done to big John (I'm just calling him that to differentiate between the Johns), but I'll get to that in a moment. Another absolutely amazing scene happens when Mary overhears Little John talking to "himself" in his room and John tells her about what "No One" has been telling him. I think I might have stopped breathing when John was shouting "whore" at his mother and she slapped him. That look he gave her - pure evil. I don't know why I was still shocked when it turned out he'd been talking to Mercy as she was tasked with getting the boy in the last episode, but I still gasped a little when I saw her. She is definitely a feisty little witch and she's very manipulative. She succeeded in indulging little John with his desires of power and leads him out of the house to the ship to meet Sebastian. John did not take to Sebastian at all.

"We both love the same woman... and betrayed by her time and time again."

Another reason I loved this episode was because we got so much more depth with Tituba too. In a way, I can sort of understand her conflicts and the demons that eat away at her. She's heartbroken by Mary, who she admits she loves to John. I now feel quite sad for Tituba - she had been by Mary's side for years and years before with Mary not really appreciating her. Mary was the unobtainable desire for Tituba and she had to watch as the woman she loves loved someone else. That is quite sad and now we do have another complicated layer for Tituba. The scenes with her and big John in the hidden room of the house were interesting to watch. I wasn't sure what exactly to make of her seducing him as John seemed very easily seduced. I guess she appealed to him in a way, even though they both aren't sexually attracted to each other, they both kind of go at it for a while. I thought at first maybe it was some kind of magic that involved rape, but John seemed to dig it - he didn't mind having sex with his demonic captor... until she turned into Mary and he stopped. Maybe that reminded him of some humanity he is desperate to get back and that what he was doing with Tituba was wrong. He had a choice though and he chose to stop having sex with Tituba, so that's where it wasn't exactly rape I think, but let me know if you think differently about this as it's quite a complicated and complex scene.

Anne doesn't interact with the other females of the show and she kept herself mainly inside her house as she deals with her own little storyline. I loved how she stood up to Sebastian who stole away into her home. He's wonderfully weird and I liked how there was a sort of power play between them. I have been waiting for crazy-red-eyes Anne to return, and she did! It was a glorious moment to behold. That kind of evil seems to only get more natural for Anne as we see a bit later on when she, without hesitation, slit the throat of Brown Jenkins to open her father's Book of Shadows, as well as a rooster to spray blood over the area to reveal the door to the attic. Anne has acted very poorly to animals lately and I'm afraid she's only getting worse! Naughty Anne! I loved that she was keeping her father's Book of Shadows from the Countess - showing she has some fire within her and isn't so easily susceptible by the people who tell her to do things. Anne is sort of fighting back and I love that, the little rebel. She managed to get some of her father's dried blood from the wall which revealed his secrets and it was interesting when Anne came across the page that had her on it. If anyone knows the meaning behind this, please let me know! It did kind of look like the Triple Hecate, which if that's true, maybe Anne will end up being the one who marries the Devil? Hmm...

"My heart is forever yours, I'm sure of it."

But Anne is still smitten with a love-struck Cotton. The brief scene they had when Cotton was talking about leaping and flight was very endearing. I can totally see why Anne would fall for her own love spell when Cotton talks so sweetly. She does notice him looking pretty ill - maybe that is because of the spell but this episode also showed that he wasn't obsessing over her. Maybe he looked ill because his dead father appeared to him? I'd like to think the love spell she cast will lead to a happy ending, but that is not the case at all. But so far, we see Cotton still has a brain of his own as he teams up with Samuel to explore the Crags. They discover the black tar-like liquid that burns like lava and they realise it's the witches opening the door to Hell. I really enjoyed their scenes together and would have loved more, but by the looks of the way Samuel has aligned his ambitions with Mary, this bromance isn't lasting. Cotton just cannot catch a break. The sweetest moment of the episode, though, came from Increase's second appearance to Cotton to talk. It was very sweet how Increase was talking about how Cotton is a better man than he ever was. This newly-reformed Increase is very heartfelt and both actors - Stephen Lang and Seth Gabel - both bring raw emotion here to make us actually feel sorry for Increase, the season-one bad-guy. I was basically in tears myself when Increase said: "Know this, I love you."

"Perhaps you need some more friends."

Finally, Samuel had a very big episode himself. This man of science had some great character development here like I felt Tituba and Increase had, which is both a good and bad thing. Good, because we get more out of his character and some understanding to him. Bad, because now I feel he isn't long for this world of Salem. I like that he figured out Mary is the cause of the pox all by himself - she never had to reveal it to him that she is a witch. It shows his intelligence and how his understanding of "science" navigates his internal compass. He really is pretty smart and I wasn't all that surprised when he wanted to learn more about the witches and their own understanding of science. He's a curious guy, but I was slightly taken back by him wanting in on the whole witchcraft thing himself. I'm guessing the trippy-sex he and Mary had was a sort of ritual in making him some kind of warlock? Or was it just to connect him to Mary so she can sort of monitor him now that he gives his being to her to use as a weapon? It was a very weird sex scene mind, more so than Tituba's and John's, so now I can't wait to see how we progress with Samuel with this new direction for him. Also, having Sebastian see the two intertwined kind of dooms Samuel in the long run. There's no way Sebastian is going to just let Samuel take what he wants, and he wants Mary so badly!

EPISODE VERDICT

I would have loved for more of the dead birds to appear in the episode, I think that and the absence of the countess were my only grievances with the episode. It was still a wonderful episode though as we learned more about the characters, their intentions and what the season is building up to. The momentum is definitely starting to build again as we head towards the final five episodes of the season. I cannot believe the finale is almost upon us, but in one sweet short month's time, we will have all the answers and I cannot wait, but at the same time, I do not want this season to be over. This episode had a lot of substance though, not just for answers but for character developments and motivations so we can understand them better. It was great to see the Attic again where Magistrate Hale lost his life to his daughter and there were so many chilling things to happen, including little John's drawings and cryptic dialogue. I cannot stress how much I love this show right now and this episode just did not disappoint. I feel absolute bliss every single time I finish an episode of Salem so major props to the entire team behind the show.

- Give a creepy kid some paper and crayons and without fail he'll draw some f*cked up shit.
- Add klepto on Samuel's resume.
- I'm a little sad the Countess didn't really appear in this episode, but there was so much substance here still that it didn't bother me too much.
- This episode was brilliant for character development - Tituba, Samuel, Increase...
- When John was calling Mary a whore non-stop, this is what I would have done:

EPISODE AWARDS

Winner of Best Witch:
Anne Hale
Best Witch: Anne Hale. Her scene with Sebastian at the start where her demonic powers reared its head after so long was just perfection. Girl power!

Naughtiest Witch: Tituba. For concealing John and burning little John's drawings - he spent ages on those, and it kept him quiet at least.

Best Gentleman: Samuel. He found out about Mary and her wickedness and chose to become her weapon rather than her enemy. Smart move.

Best Spell: There wasn't really a spell in this episode, was there?

Best Line: "If you are so concerned about my son, here's a task more suited to your skills. I'm sure someone as cunning as you can find a way to remove bird shit from his linen." - Mary to Tituba.

Most Bewitching Chemistry: Cotton and Increase.

Best Moment: Increase reveals to Mary that Ingrid's soul is the ship. Twist!

Most Romantic Moment: Anne's and Cotton's "leap" scene.

Creepiest Moment: The scene with Tituba and Little John, where a bird hits the window, then another when Tituba nears.

Vilest Moment: The mask with the spears inside being put on Ingrid and then hammered into her face.

If you think of any other award categories I could include, suggest them in the comments!

  2. Have you seen the promo for next week yet? It's shockingly up already and it's great:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJdkMEh08qs

I really enjoyed Anne this episode, her still trying to be her own person and not just a pawn and apparently she has some kind of destiny. I liked/was saddened to see her not even hesitating anymore to kill animals.

I find it interesting that Increase told Cotton he [Cotton] was already in hell- what did he mean? Is it because of the love spell? Because of the plague on the town? Foreshadowing something? I really did love the scene between Increase and Cotton, I wish he was in more episodes, but for just two episodes, Stephen Lang did a great job.

Ha, I called the Good Doctor being shady, though I didn't expect him to be this shady and yeah, I'm pretty sure Sebastian is going to kill him soon.

I didn't see Tituba/John as rape, it might have had some non-con elements because he was her prisoner and tied up, but she untied him and he went for it, until he came to his senses, which I'm glad he did. The promo promises a very interesting, long awaited scene and I wonder if John's function on the show will change after it.

I'm starting to wonder if we'll end the season with all the "good" characters from S1 (John, Cotton, Anne) on the side of the witches and helping them, willingly or not. There's an interesting press release for episode 10 that I'm trying to figure out. I don't know about Isaac, he could be killed off, he could be continuously duped for eternity, I dunno, I'm just glad we're getting a break from him for a bit, until he's useful again.

I did like the insight into Tituba and how hurt she is by Mary- she was tortured last season and still didn't give Mary up because she loved her and look at how Mary treats her now. That and what Tituba said about them always treating her like a slave and never like one of their own.

Creepy demon child is creepy, I'm sure he needs to be sacrificed or something for the ritual to be complete, to release their dark lord. I loved his scene with Tituba where she got scared and then with Mary and Mercy and calling his mother "whore"- definitely creepy, well done, little John.

  3. I saw that the promo was up and added it to the end of my review, just above the author box ;) I love that it was available early enough for us to see and it looks amazing, but don't do all the episodes?

Anne is such a mixed bag of emotions for us isn't she? I love that she's taking charge of her life and being this powerful creature, but at the same time, our sweet innocent Anne is gone :( I think Salem is just deemed Hell on Earth - whether or not Mary succeeds in opening the gates of Hell, Cotton is already there. But it could also foreshadow that the witches maybe succeed? Or his infliction with the love spell. I like that Increase didn't just tell Cotton anything explicit, but more wrapped up in metaphor. But it was such a touching moment too. Stephen Lang is just fantastic.

I do agree with you about Tituba and John. He really did go for it and I was like "go on son" even though I don't really ship the two of them, but hey they were both getting some satisfaction right? Haha, but yeah glad John came to his senses. So excited for Mary to see him! I just love her reactions to everything and I wonder how she will deal with Tituba other than a knife to her throat.

Is it this part of the synopsis for episode 10 you're trying to figure out: "As the Countess Marburg prepares for the imminent arrival of the “Starry Messenger” and her lover, the Dark Lord, Mary stages a last ditch effort to thwart the eternal Witch’s plans, but her success or failure may rest in the hands of others who each have something important at stake." It sounds like she's preparing to open the gates of Hell as she has everything at her disposal to complete the ritual - little John and everything - and Mary tries to intervene so she can release the Dark Lord? The episode title of episode 11 - "On Earth As In Hell" sounds like maybe the witches succeed at the end of episode 10. If so, that will be fantastic!!! So exciting, and it's pretty ballsy for it to not be the finale for this kind of huge thing to happen. But who knows, I could be wrong?

Isaac has been absent which is odd that he hasn't at least been addressed or anything, but yeah I agree, at least he's not soaking up screen time being tortured or used, so it's all good. Aww I do feel so bad for Tituba when we understand what she's done for Mary and she has been so unappreciative. I want them to make up. Don't know if I ship them though, I would need it to feel organic on Mary's part as she is definitely heterosexual.

Little John is the little scene-stealer. Kudos to the kid, he's doing a spectacular job in amping up the creepiness of the show. It does look like he may be the one to be sacrificed, or he won't be around too long when the Dark Lord is released from within him. I have no idea and that's the way I love it. The writers keep me on my toes and just raise the bar every week.

  4. There was alot in this ep. I still maintain Tituba raped John. He wasn't into her. She forced herself on him. Yes, he gave in for awhile, but he was tied up at the start of it. At least he did put a stop to it when he saw she was pretending to be Mary. I wouldn't call the scene consensual. If he hadn't been tied up at the start, he would have pushed her away.

Little John is definitely evil and has magick powers of his own. He was pretty quick to fall for Mercy's lies, but we'll see if he realizes he isn't in good company.

I have a feeling Sebastian might kill off Samuel. He's not going to let Mary and Samuel be happy for long. I was surprised Samuel said he wanted in on the witchcraft. He's an interesting character.

Anne has come a long way and she does seem to be getting stronger. I'm really curious as to where it all leads with Cotton. One of the newer eps we're getting, the title seems to mention a marriage, Till Death Do Us Part. So maybe they do get to the altar.

Increase will be missed, but I'm glad he was able to give Mary the secret. She'll have to find a way to destroy the ship, and I bet it won't be easy.

I can't wait for next week's scenes of Mary finally finding John.

  5. Well, it depends on if Tituba is a lesbian or not, whether she'd actually get something out of sex with John other than his allegiance. I do think he gave in a bit too easily for someone hellbent on killing witches, who has no love lost for Tituba over framing him for being a witch. I just can't wait for Mary and him to be reunited and see where the show takes them- will John have to die? Stay locked up until the ritual is complete? Would he be sacrificed? What about the ritual he went through, what are the repercussions? Would knowing he has a demon child change his mind? What about the Mary-Tituba relationship (I assume the knife is over discovering the fact that she has to sacrifice little John and Tituba knew his destiny all along and kept it a secret from her) So many questions, hopefully we get some answers next week.

I would LOVE if the show completed the ritual before the finale, we'll have to wait and see. Well, the part you mentioned, but mostly this one: "Meanwhile, Cotton Mather faces his imminent demise - the result of Magistrate Hawthorne’s jealous treachery - until an unlikely party intervenes. But his rescue could come at a price that he may be unwilling – or even unable - to pay." Maybe in exchange for his life, Cotton has to make a deal with the devil, which would bring him into the fold, albeit unwillingly.

I definitely feel like Mary/Tituba is one sided and Mary, as far as we know is both heterosexual and not interested in Tituba romantically or sexually, so I doubt that would happen, but who knows. I also doubt Anne/Cotton will have a happily ever after, maybe things will change between them if Cotton finds out she's a witch..

    ReplyDelete
  6. I do hope we get to see more of Tituba's desires and understand her better as a person. Having intercourse with witches is definitely the opposite of what John was "made" for by this curse by the Indians, I think that's the only storyline that has been stalled right now as the witches' plans are moving along swiftly now. The biggest question mark is now John and what's going to happen to him as he really hasn't done a good job at killing witches.

Hmm, that is a head-scratcher. The price could definitely be something as big as Cotton signing his soul over to the devil, that will be fascinating to watch. He'd become the very thing he despises, but it would give him such an exciting storyline. We could be totally wrong but it sounds like it could be right.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm betting we will see Isaac again, probably as part of the sacrifice ritual. The man just can't get a break.

It would be interesting if Cotton got pulled into witchcraft against his will to save himself. At the very least, I'm sure there will come a time he finds out Anne is a witch.

The whole issue of if Mary ever loved Tituba is an interesting one. I think Mary is bi or she was with Tituba out of pure necessity. But she was always in love with John. I believe Tituba really does love Mary.

Little John is a wildcard. There is no telling if he will fully and permanently turn on Mary or if he will realize he's in bad company. And he's probably got alot more witch power than we've seen.

This show is just so complex and perfect. I'm not sure what the diagrams meant in Hale's book. But it was very fascinating. And wasn't there mention of other creatures of the night? If only we could get another season of this show, I'm sure they would bring in all kinds of things.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I definitely want to understand Tituba more as a character, we get so little of her POV and she rarely gets her own story line. The problem with John's story line is that we know so little about what happened to him in the ritual and how if affected him, plus he's done very little witch killing (he really is a flop in that regard, lol), he's mostly just been skulking or tied up and I'm ready for his story line to finally pay off, it's been dragging quite a bit. So now we have to see what comes of the Mary-John confrontation and what happens with John by the end of the season.

I love theorizing, even if I'm way off the mark, so we could be completely wrong about it all, about Cotton and the price described in the synopsis, but it's fun to speculate and guess.

  9. "I just love her reactions to everything"

Is it weird that that's my favorite part of this show? Anytime anything happens I'm just like, I can't wait for Mary to find out about this one. Her reactions to things she never saw coming are the best. That's why the anticipation for Mary to find out about John and that he's been in her house for awhile is something I've been dying to see. It looks like it's finally going to happen here next ep based off the promo.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Haha that is not weird, it's definitely normal. I feel the exact same - I just anticipate the reaction, the possible fallout, what will happen next. Mary's emotions are just so captivating. It doesn't seem like such a big thing to anticipate - Mary finding out John is alive - compared to the arrival of the Countess and other things that have happened, but it's certainly something I can agree has us dying to see. It's definitely happening in the next episode, I just hope it isn't the final scene so we don't actually see what happens next until the episode after that.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Oh yeah, the Countess could just be stowing him away as part of the sacrifice ritual since he does hold some special value from the Grand Rite, being basically immune to the disease while still showing symptoms.

You could be right about the other creatures of the night, and if season 2 has the opening of Hell in episode 10/11, and have it closed by the finale, then Season 3 could deal with the aftermath of that opening and many creatures escaping. All exciting possibilities.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It was very promising at the start of the season - the John storyline - but we are 8 episodes in and still none the wiser of what the hell is going on with him. We just know he has to kill witches, but he hasn't been doing much of that lately, and he's been tied up for 2 episodes now, going onto his 3rd, so yeah he's been very weird this season and feels very stagnant in regards to him. But I think this Mary and John confrontation will expand things and make John a little more exciting than he has been of late.

Maybe if he signs his soul over to the devil, the spell Anne placed on him will become void and he will have his own feelings again. His free will will be taken from him as he'll be owned by the devil, but you'd be right about the even footing with Anne thing. Then we will probably see the two bloom naturally once Cotton is aware of his surroundings. Theorising is fantastic when it comes to Salem because so many things could happen, and even if the things we want to happen don't, we're not disappointed because the writers usually go in a better direction. One day, I hope the writers see us and we can get in on how they write an episode and get to work with them for a week or so as a full episode is developed. That would make my life.

Also, I know we all kinda knew Dollie would be dead, it was confirmed by Sammi Hanratty that she is dead. I was hoping for some kind of miracle, but poor Dollie :( https://twitter.com/SammiHanratty1/status/602249007319121920

  13. How are the ratings doing? There doesn't seem to be alot of fan activity for this show. I pray it won't get canceled like Helix. Helix was just as good, but didn't have much fanbase.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I really hope this will be the turning point for John, because his story line has been such a confusing and stagnating mess this season, I really need them to do something with him before the end of the season. He didn't really kill that many witches, spent a lot of time just roaming around and now he's been tied up for 2-3 episodes. I really hope the writers have it all planned out and just couldn't get there faster, because his story line is one of the weaker aspects of the season and it's a shame.

I really don't want anything big to happen between Cotton/Anne until the love spell is lifted, because it's too non-con-y for me at the moment. I appreciate that Anne felt she had no choice and that she's not comfortable with it and keeps second guessing his feelings, but it's still problematic. So yeah, maybe selling his soul would break the spell and the two would both be lost souls in over their head, trying to do good and being coerced to do bad stuff. Could be an interesting direction for Cotton.

Dollie was a side character, I'm glad she got a bit of development, but I never cared about her too much. The whole thing with Isaac was rushed as hell and only done so you'd root for them and be sad when she's killed off, so poor Isaac gets to suffer even more. Yeah, it'd be cool to sit in on a writing session, it'd never happen, but it'd be cool.

  15. Not great unfortunately but probably decently enough for WGN America. On par with the low end of season 1 so it's not like it's doing terribly, but the ratings could be better. Still, WGN America should be happy enough to give the show a season 3. Though it depends on how its other shows perform, but I don't expect them to do much better. Helix was on Syfy and Syfy is more successful in nielsen ratings so when their shows don't do so well, they're bound to be cancelled. WGN America is so tricky because they're new to the scripted series model.

  16. I'm guessing they won't announce it either way until after the finale. At least we have quite a few more eps to go.

  18. Tell me im not the only who thjhinks that Tituba wants to hurt Mary by having John's baby?... I dunno it felt to me like that's what she has on mind, what better way to hurt Mary to have a child with the man she loves?.
Here i wonder if little devil will transform into man evil once all the ritual si complete. I think that will be fun to watch, Mary loosing her son (which was never hers in the first place( yeah she gave brth to him but he sure doesnt want her as her mother)) for the ritual and then seeing him rise as a man.
I really liked your review, the episode gave us more insight into the other characters that are yet to explore, we see how the Dr's ambition ahs led him to join Mary and i believe he will be the one that Mary will blame for everything that has happened in Salem.
Anne figuring out how to read the Book of Shadows was a great moment too and i cant help to feel sad for Anne and Cotton, Anne knows that their love is not real and Cotton is such a sweet guy, he doesnt deserve to be manipulated like that.
One otehr thing. WHERE THE HELL IS ISAAC?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think so too, but I really want to know ASAP if there will be a season beyond this one. I don't want another Witches of East End situation.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Couldn't have said it better myself. In fact you just wrapped up my review in one simple sentence haha

    ReplyDelete
  21. That is quite a twisted theory Ron and I love it! Haha Tituba does want to have something over on Mary after all the betrayal, not sure if she wants John's baby but it certainly will make Mary's mouth hit the floor, for sure!

I would love to see the boy transform into a man (the devil) once the ritual is complete. Mary will be devastated as he really doesn't want her, does he. Aww thanks for reading my reviews and liking them, I write them for amazing fans like you :D

I think Isaac is being kept prisoner in Ingrid's ship and he may be part of the ritual since he seems to be something special since he's lived through the plague. I hope we do get some answers soon since Dollie is confirmed to be dead, I want to see his reactions and stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I usually watch the episode much later and come to the review thread intending to add to the discussion but there are already such detailed discussions that I end up just reading them and nodding my head along.

One point about Tituba that I wanted to add. He anger towards Mary is completely unjustified. Remember this, she was already a witch before Mary and was in touch with the elders. She was the one who intiated Mary into witch-dom. She was the one assigned to keep an eye on Mary. In a twisted way, she is in love with Mary - a love that is not reciprocated in the way she wants. So, it is easy to see that slowly Tituba has been blinded by jealousy and anger.

Above all this, she kept the biggest secret from Mary - the secret that Mary's son was alive all along. That, IMO was unforgivable and that is one of the main reasons why Mary feels so betrayed by Tituba. Now, after Tituba got captured by Increase and still didn't give up Mary's name even after torture, she feels that she deserves more from Mary. But even her loyalty to Mary came at a price. She knowingly gave up Alden's name to Increase - she could have named any innocent but she wanted John out of the way.

  23. The whole Tituba telling Increase that John is a witch makes more sense now that I realise she was jealous of the attention and affection he was getting from Mary. Tituba has done some heinous things behind Mary's back, such as keeping her son being alive secret among others, while at the same time she has protected Mary in her own twisted way. Tituba strikes me as the kind of person who only focuses on the things she has done for Mary (as she has repeatedly stated) rather than what she's done against Mary. I guess partly why I feel like Tituba's grief is justified is because I do feel a little sorry for her. But she has been a little witch behind Mary's back and that, of course, would not go down lightly with Mary. It makes the two "friends" so deep and complex and partly why I love Salem so much. I hope Mary doesn't end up killing Tituba as I would love to see more of their relationship and how they progress.

And thanks for always reading the discussions. Even if you don't feel like you have anything to add, I always love hearing your thoughts :)
