Rookie Blue - Perfect Family - Review

Last week, we finally learnt that whether or not the timeline is off, Marlo is indeed pregnant with Sam’s baby, Dov is still helping Marlo with the bombing incident, Juliet is not who she says she is and Chris is dating the inspector’s wife. This week is more of a McSwarek centric episode, how case of the week helps Andy to realize what she really want out of her relationship with Sam.

What started out as a missing person report actually turns out to be a child abuse case. 16 year old Hayley Will ran away from home because of her abusive and conservative father, and her mother has to step up and testify against him to keep her family safe.

The case helps Andy to reflect on her current situation. She thought she had no part in this drama between Sam and Marlo, but throughout the episode Andy realizes that she has a part in this if she wants to be and she’s going to make the best out of her situation.

In the beginning of the episode, we see Andy trying to distance herself from Sam while she’s still trying to digest the news and accepting the fact that Sam’s going to have a baby and it’s not with her. She’s freaking out, which is totally understandable and throughout the episode we can definitely see the changes in Andy, which led to a heart-warming talk with Sam at the end of the episode.

What is a perfect family? Kids, a dog, a nice house with white picket fences? Just because the love of your life is having a baby with another woman doesn’t mean you can’t have any of that. Life doesn’t always go your way, and instead of giving up and walking away, you make lemonade. Sam wanted to give Andy the perfect family and Andy wanted Sam to be the father of their child. Can they still have all of that? Yes, they absolutely can. It may not be what Andy had pictured their life together to be and they have no idea how to do this, but they are going to figure this out together. Say what you will about Marlo and the baby drama, but you can’t deny that it is going to make McSwarek stronger than ever.

I’m really liking the scenes between Dov and Marlo. They continue to work on finding the one responsible for the evidence room bombing and they finally have lead that tells us it’s probably an inside job. Now they just have to find the guy who supplies explosives to the metropolitan police department, who happens to be missing at the moment. What a coincidence.

I noticed Marlo’s baby bump in this episode, which is quite a big difference compared to the last time we saw her. Either they covered it really well last week or there was time jump between this episode and the last. Maybe I just wasn’t paying attention to her stomach last week?

Just like I predicted, Chris did try to break it off with the inspector’s wife. Three times, but he got distracted. He’s acting really dodgy around Jarvis and Gail finds out almost immediately. Like any other sane person, Gail tries to make Chris break up with Jamie but obviously that is not going to happen anytime soon.

I’m not going to lie, I’m really liking this season so far. The only thing I dislike about it is Duncan. I don’t understand his purpose on the show, so I’m just tolerating his presence until he gets an interesting enough storyline for me to care. I feel like if this is the last season, Duncan is just taking precious time away from the regulars on the show who could definitely benefit from more scenes.

So what do you think about Perfect Family? Liking the season so far? Think Jarvis knows his wife is cheating on him with Chris? Thoughts on McSwarek finally moving on? Let me know!
