    Ratings Breakdown:
Outside of the traditional (September to May) television season, anything is possible on any night of the week in the summer. NBC, which is not known for much success on Thursday, took control of the night in the household overnights care of an 8-9 p.m. edition of “Dateline” (#2: 4.6 rating/8 share) and the two episode debut of David Duchovny 1967-based drama “Aquarius.”

The first episode of “Aquarius” won the 9 p.m. hour with a 4.1 rating/ 7 share, which was a hefty 46 percent above the two episode year-ago debut of sitcom “Undateable” (avg. 2.8/ 5 on 5/29/14). The second episode of “Aquarius” also topped the time period, with a 3.9/ 7 from 10-11 p.m. Comparably, that beat year-ago time period occupant “Last Comic Standing” (3.1/ 5 on 5/39/14) by 26 percent and it was NBC’s highest metered market household rating in the Thursday 10 p.m. hour since “Dateline” five weeks ago. The initial prognosis for “Aquarius” is a positive one based on the overnights. Now let’s see what the young adult demos look like.

Effective next Thursday, “Aquarius” airs in the 9 p.m. hour into the third-season premiere of drama “Hannibal” at 10 p.m.

In season (or series) finale news, a two-hour edition of ABC event game show “500 Questions” perked up to a 3.7/ 6 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was two-tenths of a rating point (or six percent) above the 3.5/ 6 one week earlier. And it should translate into a 1.1-1.2 rating among adults 18-49, which should be enough for an additional episode order.

Next on ABC was an encore of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” at a third-place 2.3/ 4 at 10 p.m.

On Fox, episode three of quirky drama “Wayward Pines” slipped by 12 percent week to week, with a fourth-place 2.9/ 5 from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that should translate into about a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49. The lead-in, veteran “Bones,” scored a 3.6/ 6 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. (#4), which was 24 percent above “Wayward Pines.”

Elsewhere, CBS populated the evening with encore telecasts of “The Big Bang Theory” (#1: 5.4/10), “The Odd Couple” (#2: 3.7/ 6), “Mom” (#4: 3.6/ 6), “Mike & Molly” (#3: 3.4/ 6) and drama “Elementary” (#2: 3.1/ 5). And The CW also traveled the repeat route with ‘iZombie” at 8 p.m. (#5: 0.7/ 1) and a 9 p.m. installment of tired “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 0.4/ 1). Unless “The Vampire Diaries” comes back to life next fall (and I would not count on that), the logical move for The CW would be to position upcoming “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” in the Thursday 8 p.m. hour in midseason. Stay tuned.

  1. I wish it was June 29th lol.

Looks good for Aquarius. How was it?

    ReplyDelete
  2. I wish that Wayward Pines would do better. it's such a good show and deserves higher ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Surprised by Aquarius performance. I wonder how it'll skew.

Bones looks higher than usual, maybe it'll finally get out of the low 1s zone?

    ReplyDelete
  4. I'm going to guess that Bones will get a 1.3 in the 18-49 demographic.

    ReplyDelete
  5. What is with Marc and moving LOT to thursdays 8pm?????? He really is obsessed with that!

Glad that Aquarius did well hoping for good demo numbers. What are good Demo numbers in the summer for NBC?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Unless “The Vampire Diaries” comes back to life next fall (and I would not count on that), the logical move for The CW would be to position upcoming “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” in the Thursday 8 p.m. hour in midseason.

No, that wouldn't be logical at all. Pairing LoT with a very female skewing TVD would be madness.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Aquarius looks to be around a 1.1, 1.3 at best. NBC has already said that they are looking at the streaming plus live results, but the HH has to be disappointing. This was their big swing, and a 4/1/7 (even in summer) should have been higher with the promotion involved.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I wonder if people will binge Aquarius or continue watching it on a weekly basis instead.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Seems like Wayward Pines going up last week was a fluke. I hope it gets a renewal though (if that's possible). I only watched the first half of the first episode of Aquarius before falling sleep, not out of boredom but becuase it was 5 o clock in the morning :/ I had pretty mixed feelings about it. It had a fantastic cast though.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I expect the live ratings not to be as high because people will also be watching online.

    ReplyDelete
  11. NBC is having a great summer so far. American Ninja Warrior, America's Got Talent, I Can Do That, Dateline, and Aquarius all did really well. The Island did OK, and overall their summer schedule is a huge success so far.

Wayward Pines looks low, but that was expected since Aquarius was the more appealing option. FOX is having the opposite luck as Hell's Kitchen, Bullseye, Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader, and Wayward Pines are all in various degrees of struggling.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I doubt it'll get renewed; it's a mini-series.

    ReplyDelete
  13. There was talk of a possible second season though, I'm really enjoying it so I do hope they find a way. It wouldn't be the first one-and-done series to get renewed!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think that Legends of Tomorrow should air in an 8pm time slot during mid-season and either The Flash or Arrow should move to 9pm and air after it. (Superhero night possibly).

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm a big fan of Wayward Pines as well but it seems like one of those shows that doesn't have a long story. If FOX did order a second season, the story would probably get dragged on and the show would be ruined.

    ReplyDelete
  16. If Aquarius gets higher than a 1.5 I will be shocked.

    ReplyDelete
  17. FOX derailed it by scheduling. They completely underestimated Aquarius just like they underestimated America's Got Talent when they put Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader there.

The one show they attempted to protect Bullseye was an odd choice because even with a 1.6 lead in, it didn't have much of an appeal.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Since NBC renewed shows that hit 1.0 and 1.2s in the Spring, I wouldn't expect a high bar at all for Aquarius.

A 1.2 should be plenty for a summer renewal.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It doesn't surprise me that FOX is struggling. The only show that's really doing well on the network is Empire. Without Empire, the network would be screwed.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Summer ratings are a sliding scale for NBC. They renewed shows that regularly went fractional. Technically, NBC doesn't need to renew any show. It depends on need. However, if Aquarius premieres at around a 1.0 to 1.3 (which would be seen as a disappointment), it is going to need amazing streaming numbers. With the normal erosion, it would become fractional within a few weeks... and they are already well stocked with both drama and genre shows.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If anyone can add in a twist to keep it going and entertaining it's M. Night Syamalan! If the first season has a satisfying enough ending though I wouldn't mind.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The only way I can see them doing it is putting Lot and Containment together, and move VD to Mondays and TO to Fridays with Reign. But that is highly unlikely I think.
    But we shall see.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think 1,5 would be okay, but I have no clue. Rarely I follow summer ratings. New territory for me ^^

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think The CW has too many shows to place on its schedule next season.

    ReplyDelete
  25. A constant 1,2 yes, but think the show should premier higher to fall down to a 1,2 steady.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree. But I'd rather that they just keep to the 10 episodes and no more.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The Night Shift after America's Got Talent earned a 1.6 demo after a 3.0 demo lead in (America's Got Talent). I think that we have to remember this is summer and adjust ratings accordingly. To believe that it would perform better with a third of a lead in probably isn't realistic.

As for falling, it's all forecasting. But somewhere in the 1.0 -1.2 steady would be a very realistic renewal. NBC would likely do that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good for iZombie repeat, I guess. That could end up being a solid 0.3.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The Mysteries of Bob29 May 2015 at 14:37

NBC wishes summer would last forever.

I'd LOL if Aquarius premieres higher than some of their low end shows.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I agree. It is unrealistic to believe that NBC would renew a scripted drama at a 1.2. There is no need and NBC rejected summer reality projects, at a lower cost, which achieved higher results. Your 1.5 projection is correct and what NBC expects to see later today. Time will tell.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The Mysteries of Bob29 May 2015 at 14:37

Aquarius: mondays after The Voice in 2016.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if NBC did that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. They wanted to do this. They chose The Night Shift instead. It's another Greenblatt fail as Aquarius appears to be the stronger option as it likely performed better in summer.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It's funny knowing that a repeat of iZombie gets the same ratings as an original episode of Reign.

    ReplyDelete
  35. At least MC ticked up this week.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Brandy Danforth29 May 2015 at 15:21

Ike?Plus, since Pedowitz didn't VD got a shortened season,I think it got a full one and Vampire Thursdays will be intact the whole season. Why put male skewing Legends against BBzt,Blaclist & other Thurs male skewing shows?I personally think & hope Contsinment & Legrnds go after Arrow & Flash with SPN moving

    ReplyDelete
  37. Brandy Danforth29 May 2015 at 15:24

Yeah I think that's highly unlikely.Legrnds shouldn't be up against Thurs male skewing stuff nor paired with a female skewing show & I think Vampire Thurs stsy in tact all season. Also,I think Fri midseason will be WLIIA & Reign,in whichever order .I also think its highly unlikely Czw pairs two brand new shows together-they've only done twice at most in their history,

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree. And the so called, struggling, FOX shows are hitting the same demo as the so called "successful" NBC shows, which have the benefit of much greater lead-ins. There seems to be some bias in the analysis.

    ReplyDelete
  39. PerryGoGrrr 💛29 May 2015 at 15:32

    It's not that bad :(

Izombie can be a short order
Crazy ex girlfriend will probably flop
And there's the extra slot on Friday.

    3 slots , 3 benched shows.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Even though I think Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is awful, I think it'll be the new Jane The Virgin.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Are You Smarter than A Fifth Grader, Bullseye, and Hell's Kitchen all hit lower than The Island. Wayward Pines will likely join it. And American Nina Warrior's 1.8 is not far off from FOX's MasterChef 1.6 (which didn't help Bullseye that much).

Overall, FOX is having a much worse summer than NBC.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Isn't it a miniseries?

    ReplyDelete
  43. XYZ, I am going to ask you politely to continue to ignore my posts. As you stated you would to the moderators in retaining your posting privileges here. You've been allowed to give your opinions, please continue to allow others their opinions. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I said that is the extreme mode, but very doubtful they will move VD anywhere till the show says its swan song. I could eventually see Containment push out TO but also very unlikely.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I did ignore your numerous posts, but people can also respond if their posts are attacked for being biased. Nothing wrong with that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Brandy Danforth29 May 2015 at 15:43

Marc seems to feel that at VD at 0.5-0.6 VD isn't a good leadin anymore ,that Legends could self-start & that at 0.5-0.6 VD is wasting the highest ad rates night & Legends would do better

    ReplyDelete
  47. No one engaged you, nor did they claim bias, and my request still stands. Please continue to ignore my posts per your agreement with the moderators. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I know what he means, but he is really pushing the issue. As U said the slot is quite difficult to handle with NBC being mighty male skewing, while ABC is kicking it high with female skewing shows. So it's a toss up. U risk either way.

But he posts this comment all the time, with no special reason. Just bashing against it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Aquarius lost to Wayward Pines.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Brandy Danforth29 May 2015 at 16:02

What extra slot on Fri?ANTM runs from Sug to Dec,Reign might've gotten a full season and WLIIA will be on Fri at midseason

    ReplyDelete
  51. So Aquarius skewed old in the end.
Wayward Pines being steady bodes well for it to stay as a summer series.
Bones rose to its highest numbers since fall, which makes me think the competition during regular season is what got the best of it

    ReplyDelete
  52. Aquarius skews ooooold.
Did they actual finish asking 500 questions in 500 Questions or not?

    ReplyDelete
  53. And people thought Aquarius would do good- it should be sub 1 next week

    ReplyDelete
  54. Bones halves: 1.2/1.3
If it rises next week, then it's with no doubt the competition what got the best of it during regular season

    ReplyDelete
  55. Half Hours:
    Bones: 1.2/1.3
    WP: 1.2/1.2
    Aq: 1.3/1.0/1.0/0.9

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wow... Aquarius lost to Wayward Pines. That is a shocker. Interesting that my initial prediction of 1.1 stood up.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I guesssed people didnt like Aquarius
    1.3/1.0/1.0/.9

    ReplyDelete
  58. Ouch at Aquarius.

    ReplyDelete
  59. ouch... that is a huge drop from 1.3 to .9... NBC has to be disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Who would have thought Aquarius would have less than 20% skew in the demos. It hit with viewers, just outside the demo.

    ReplyDelete
  61. That, and its unnecessary 3 1/2 month hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I said 1.0/1.1 for Aqarius at 9 and .9 at 10. Wow was I close. Predicting this is the next Hannibal in terms of ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Bones/Sleepy Hollow should have been FOX's Friday schedule. Bones would thrive on Fridays.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Why the hell did FOX air a new Bones this week after taking a week off last?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Hannibal skews young, so no.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Nice for Wayward Pines :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Unnecessary? The need the slot for Idol.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Sad for Aquarius. Still have to watch the show eps.
Thursdays will be highly competitive rating wise, in 2 week Batb and in 3 weeks the ABC line up premiers. Should be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Maybe for Memorial Day weekend?

    ReplyDelete
  70. BATB is hardly competition.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Thursdays are tough. CW, NBC and Fox took major hits last season. ABC and CBS prevailed.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I agree, that would have worked

    ReplyDelete
  73. I know, just saying overall. They crammed plenty shows into Thursdays.
BATB will be more than happy to score 0,4s

    ReplyDelete
  74. Young but still low rated. Maybe it will do better in the summer, though I doubt it.

    ReplyDelete
  75. And Masterchef Junior should have been on Thursdays to face all of the strong scripted series instead of Bones.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Gaia Di Lorenzo29 May 2015 at 16:14

maybe it should be a summer show but I really hope S11 will be the last. So I can start watching :P. Don't know if I'd like it thou. It seems slow and with little romance and a bit repetive.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Bad for Aquarius but with NBC making all episodes available they must think it will get better viewers that way Good for Bones. Fox must not have wanted it to go up against charity show but it clearly did much better with it going against repeats. FOX also must be a little happy that they retained demo numbers from Bones lead in which I know isn't great, but it didn't go down either

    ReplyDelete
  78. I really don't know how to judge Hannibal. Track record says it probably rates at around a 1.0 but this show is gathering a lot of critical buzz (even more than last season). Being in the summer, curiosity could bump the ratings. It wouldn't surprise me to see a 1.5 or so because people want to check out what all of the critics are talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Wow, clearly DD was a draw (I bet that helped boost that 8 p.m. Dateline). And, clearly, people quickly decided to switch it off.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Which brings us to the million dollar question, would Chicago Aquarius have skewed younger?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Bones is doing well for FOX in the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Good on Wayward Pines for staying at 1.2

    ReplyDelete
  83. FOX is essentially keeping Masterchef Jr on the bench to replace Rosewood, Minority Report or the Tuesday comedies, shall it be needed. It makes more sense to have that flexibility than to enjoy the 0.5 or so gains that the swap of Bones and Masterchef Jr. would give them, in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Copy pasting my comment from above:

    BONES FOR EVER

    ReplyDelete
  86. Greice Moreira29 May 2015 at 17:09

What is this show about? They literally just ask 500 random questions to people?

    ReplyDelete
  87. That was a good rise from them last night. FOX should be happy with last night from both shows

    ReplyDelete
  88. From what I have understood from other people's comment, the contestant has to answer 500 questions without getting 3 incorrect in a row. If they do get 3 incorrect in a row, then they move on to the next contestant. No idea what the prize is. Subject: Re: Comment on Ratings News - 29th June 2015

    ReplyDelete
  89. Greice Moreira29 May 2015 at 18:22

This sounds boring. But it's probably cheap to make so good for ABC.

    ReplyDelete
  90. But they could have (and should have, IMO) moved Bones to Fridays before Glee instead of "WFF". Because up until TBBT moved back, it was still beating the majority of the other shows on Fox, despite only being in the mid 1s. Not to mention, it did pretty well on Fridays last season (which, to be honest, shocked the hell out of me).

    ReplyDelete
  91. O f course its the competition that has killed Bones on Thursday, most specifically TBBT. if they had just kept in on Friday and didn't delay its return it may not have lost a lot of its audience ( Booth and Brennan having barely any scenes together for half of episodes doesn't help either) it was nice to see it rise though

    ReplyDelete
  92. Yes it was dong just fine, even with the loss of Sweets they did well on Thursday until TBBT moved there. Bones was doing like you said pretty well on Fridays and then Reilly put it back on Mondays again. This Thursday move was not good for it at all and having its second half of season starting when spring started even worse. I am very glad it rose last night, and to be honest I didn't expect it too. May their last two shows go up as well

    ReplyDelete
  93. i hope wayward pines gets renewed, if not then i hope they didn't leave it with a cliffhanger

    ReplyDelete
  94. Goodbye Revenge, ∞x∞29 May 2015 at 22:07

I'm sorry but 500 questions was the most boring game show I've ever seen. Not surprised that just a few episodes in and it's getting 1.0

    ReplyDelete
  95. Goodbye Revenge, ∞x∞29 May 2015 at 22:09

So boring. I watched the first episode and won't watch again.

    ReplyDelete
  96. That looks like a decent opening of Aquarius.

Also not terrible for Wayward Pines.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Bones is looking better in the ratings!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Bones is up in ratings! YEAH!!!!!
