Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy Sunday overnight victory for ABC care of the “2015 Billboard Music Awards,” which scored a 7.6 rating/13 share in households from 8-11 p.m. (peaking in the 9:30 p.m. half hour at an 8.1/13). Comparably, this was 13 percent above the 6.7/11 for the “Billboard Music Awards” on the year-ago evening, and that 6.7 rating in the household overnights translated into 10.74 million viewers and a 3.5 rating/10 share in adults 18-49 (based on the Live + Same Day dat)a. Earlier in the evening on ABC was the season-finale of veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a 4.1/ 8 (#2t) from 7-8 p.m.
CBS finished a distant second overall in the overnights with its combination of older-skewing granddaddy newsmagazine “60 Minutes” (#1: 6.6/12); “The I Love Lucy Superstar Special” (#3: 4.1/ 7), featuring the colorized version of episodes “L.A. at Last!” and “Lucy and Superman;” and two episodes of canceled crime solver “Battle Creek” (9 p.m.: #2: 3.4/ 5; 10 p.m.: #2: 3.3/ 6). Comparably, this third “I Love Lucy” special slipped by 34 percent from the most recent (in this time period) on Dec. 7, 2014 (6.2/ 9, featuring the Christmas and “Job Switching” episodes).
Over at NBC, a two-hour edition of “Dateline” got some mileage with a 4.1/ 7 in the overnights from 7-9 p.m. But “A.D.: The Bible Continues” dropped to a 3.1/ 5 from 9-10 p.m. (#3), followed by canceled “American Odyssey” at a mere 1.8/ 3 at 10 p.m. (#3).
Diluted Fox opened with a repeat of “The Simpsons” (#4: 1.2/ 2) and an original installment of “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 1.2/ 2) from 7-8 p.m., followed by the season-finale episodes of the regularly scheduled edition of “The Simpsons” (#4: 1.9/ 3), “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4: 1.7/ 3), “Family Guy” (#4: 2.0/ 3) and the regularly scheduled “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 1.6/ 3) from 8-10 p.m. Year-to-year, veteran “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” (at 8:30 p.m. on 5/18/14) dropped by 21 percent and 29 percent, respectfully, in the overnights. Despite the slippage all season, Fox is keeping its Sunday line-up intact next fall.

Looks like ABC will win the sweeps by a big margin
ReplyDeleteNot surprised the Billboard Awards are up this year.
ReplyDeleteThis season of Family Guy was terrible, so the ratings drop is understandable.
Was I the only surprised that ABC let Empire get promoted last night at the BBMA with a full performance in their show?
ReplyDeleteVery very good for BBMA.
ReplyDeleteI mean, I don't see Fox letting Nashville stars sign at the Emmy's....
ReplyDeleteFOX must have paid a lot of money to do that, but considering Empire's success, they can do it
ReplyDeleteIt's a dumb move for both networks. ABC gave FOX a platform but FOX is overexposing the show by these musical performances. Glee tried the same thing with the Glee tour, and it accelerated its decline. FOX needs to make viewers miss Empire a bit or they will get tired of it by time it returns.
ReplyDeleteDid Happyish really get rounded off to a 0.0 last week? Damn.
ReplyDeleteAnd Odyssye hasn't been cancelled "yet".
Well, they are "singer", and it is a music award show, so I don't see how ABC could have objected.
ReplyDeleteIn all boring night of TV all around
ReplyDeleteExpect that for 4 more months.
ReplyDeleteI'm theorizing that NBC has decided to classify both Odyssey and AD as "limited run," therefore no need to "cancel" them and have another negative headline. It's a PR move.
ReplyDeleteBob's Burgers is actually a really good show. I will say though that it is getting painful watching shows on FOX NOW, as all they do during the commercials is advertise Empire.
ReplyDeletePredictions?
ReplyDeleteI guess 3.8 for the BBMAs, 1.2s for Fox comedies, 0.5 for American Odyssey, 0.8 for AD, 0.9 for I Love Lucy and 0.7 for Battle Creek.
I agree with you, I was quite shocked ABC allowed them to say tune into Season 2 of empire on Fox. That would be a big no no for me if ABC was my network. That's free promotion on my network, that wouldn't happen
ReplyDeleteThey can object to telling the empire singers, no you can't promote your show but can just perform a song
ReplyDeleteConsidering Empires success they can do that.....
ReplyDeleteHow does Empires success on fox correlate to ABC, it doesn't matter the success on another network, ABC let them perform, they over stepped a boundary by telling everyone to tune into season 2, which is not good. No network wants another networks show to tell them to tune into the competitors network.... Money don't buy that
Well, it happened, so FOX just buyed the air time like any other advertisers does. Maybe they payed an extra fee or something so they would let them air the promo. But the end result of the same: ABC did promote Empire, possibily because FOX gave them lots of money to do so
ReplyDeleteIt is weird never having to worry about a revenge rating ever again.
ReplyDeleteLol, where are you getting your information from? What promo was aired? Did you watch a different award show? Bc the only thing really promoted was the guy saying at the end of the song they sung was to tune in, and I can almost guarantee that ABC was blindsided by that
ReplyDeleteFOX never learns.
ReplyDeleteA.D 0.8
ReplyDeleteAO 0.4
Aw I didn't know there was an I Love Lucy special :(
ReplyDeleteGood for the BBMAs
B99- 1.1
ReplyDeleteSimpsons 1.3
BB 1.1
ReplyDeleteFamily Guy 1.3
Those FOX comedies will be in the sub 1s next year. Horrible night minus BBMA.
ReplyDeleteBC 0.6
ReplyDeleteBC 0.6
Ikr! at this time I would always be all nervous about what Revenge got
ReplyDeleteAlready in the chart.
ReplyDeleteFOX will have football lead-in in the fall.
ReplyDeleteMy Internet went out for a Few minutes. Therefore it did not Post until now
ReplyDeleteThese are the highest ratings that Sunday night has ever gotten in a while. I wonder how the other 2 new shows will do after OUAT in the fall.
ReplyDeleteIn a way it feels good though since revenge left on a high note
ReplyDeleteABC has probably never been more grateful for an awards show.
ReplyDeleteIts also more comforting now that Revenge has ended the way we hoped it would.
ReplyDeleteI do not even think embarrasssing is the right word for NBC. It is so much worse
ReplyDeleteThe fact that every new show they had this season crashed and burned is just awful. I honestly don't expect much different next year.
ReplyDeleteSeems like the BBMAs averaged a 3.7, great.
ReplyDeleteTHERE AREN'T ENOUGH LOLS FOR AMERICAN ODYSSEY'S 0.4.
Heroes Reborn and Chicago Med will probably be successful, and maybe Hot & Bothered.
ReplyDeleteHeroes is gonna crash and burn.
ReplyDeleteWhy? It has been heavily promoted. It hasn't generated a lot of buzz yet, but I think it will do between 3.0s and 2.0s. Heroes has a big fanbase, and when the original show was canceled they wanted more.
ReplyDeleteThe description of the trailer from upfronts sounded cool.
ReplyDeleteThey already have an established fanbase of fans excited to see this, plus new ones like me who didn't watch the original, look at it as brand new fall pilot. I don't expect huge numbers but I don't think they'll crash either.
ReplyDeleteAD- 5 episodes left
ReplyDeleteAmerican Odyssey- 6 episodes left. Both shows will now air the remaining episodes in the summer. Do they go lower? Rise a tenth?
I know :(
ReplyDeleteNBC actually has the best response in terms of what they showed at the upfronts.
ReplyDeleteGame Of Silence, Chicago Med, Hot & Bothered, Shades Of Blue all got a great response. And at least in the cast of the last three, as long as they are scheduled well, they have a good shot at finding an audience.
I also like Heroes: Reborn and Blindspot's chances of finding an audience. Overall, NBC should expect a much better year next year.
Social media buzz is higher for Heroes: Reborn than any other show that the networks announced at the upfronts. It should easily clear a 3.0 in the demos first night out. And as long as it's watchable, it should sustain fairly well.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if "crash and burn" is the right phrase... but Heroes:Reborn will sample decently (I'm guessing around a 2.0) and then drop drastically from there to its core audience. I do not see it as rating much more than around a 1.2 when all things settle. And, Diegodaily is right... there is very little buzz right now, beyond hardcore fans, for the show. As compared to something like Scream Queens where the buzz is everywhere.
ReplyDeleteHeroes wasn't even pulling those ratings towards the end of its run. It was struggling to pull a 2 weekly. why would it go up 5 years later?
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones and the series finale of Mad Men would disagree.
ReplyDeleteDo you think NBC will renew AD
ReplyDeleteI don't watch neither......
ReplyDeletemy understanding is that AD is only a 12 episode run. I still like it. I just didn't like commercials every 5 min for 2 min... #ruiningtheshows
ReplyDeleteEmpire comes back strong pulling in a 7.0 demo and you can bet all other shows will be advertised during its hour. So many eyeballs watching the show and being exposed to the other shows FOX has to offer will be a great thing. Scream Queens, Gotham and Minority Report should all be highly advertised during Empire. But I hope they also make viewers aware of Grandfathered. That is one of the best new comedies this season, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the producers they were planning on it being a continued series. I can't imagine it will get renewed due to the ratings though.
