-Ratings Breakdown:
Two-hours of “American Idol” led Fox to victory, with a 6.2 rating/10 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was right on par from one year earlier. But, as announced earlier this week, “American Idol” will be concluding next season. And the perfect scenario would be for original judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul to return. Stay tuned.
“Survivor” on CBS opened the night with a second-place 5.5/ 9 from 8-9 p.m., which was seven percent below the 5.9/10 one week earlier. But it will still be enough to clearly beat competing “American Idol” in adults 18-49 (and the other key demos). While not the best season, “Survivor” is always an addiction. And it led into two episodes (including the season finale) of “CSI: Cyber” at a fourth-place 4.3/ 7 in the 9 p.m. hour and a third-place 4.3/ 7 at 10 p.m. While CBS would like you to believe returning “CSI” Cyber” is a hit it is not…at least not yet. And the network is hoping the arrival of Ted Danson (from canceled parent “CSI”) next season will help.
ABC, which will remain intact on Wednesday next season, featured a night of season finales as follows:
ABC/Wednesday
8:00 p.m. “The Middle”: 4.7/ 8 (#3)
8:30 p.m. “The Goldbergs”: 4.4/ 7 (#3)
9:00 p.m. “Modern Family”: 5.6/ 9 (#2)
9:30 p.m. “black-ish”: 4.0/ 6 (#4)
10:00 p.m. “Nashville”: 3.7/ 6 (#3)
NBC also aired season-finale installments of “The Mysteries of Laura” (#4: 4.3/ 7), “Law & Order: SVU” (#3: 4.8/ 8) and “Chicago PD” (#1: 4.6/ 8), which will be on a brief hold until November when variety hour “Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris” steps in. And The CW closed the night with the season finale episodes of “Arrow” (#5: 2.2/ 4) and “Supernatural” (#5: 1.4/ 2).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Marc is mistaken. It wasn't the season finale of Chicago PD, and it isn't going on hiatus for Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris. That's Chicago Fire.
ReplyDeleteChicago PD and SVU will air their finales next week. And Fire is the one coming back in November, not PD.
ReplyDeleteMarc check your facts
ReplyDeleteNPH show is Tuesday
Why CSI Cyber got renewed really beats me.
ReplyDeleteSee what you did with ABC there Marc, neat and tidy layout with no unnecessary wording or biased opinions, why can't you do that all the time?
ReplyDeleteAnd there's also a new episode of Modern Family next week.
ReplyDeleteMarc is known for making these kinds of mistakes
ReplyDeleteEven though I wasn't that much of a fan of last night's Arrow's finale, I'm happy to see it went up :)
ReplyDeleteLast week 2.0 turned out to be 1.0, so let's hope this week 2.2 is enough for 1.1
ReplyDeleteIs it true that Arrow was pre-empted in Chicago? I saw people talking about that on Tumblr.
ReplyDeleteI believe CW was preempted in Chicago for baseball last night. Was it both Arrow and SPN or just SPN?
ReplyDeleteSame here. Not the way I wanted it to end, or better said no the way I wanted to reach this end.
ReplyDeleteKudos to American Idol for its finale being on par from one year earlier. Who would have expected that?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, how does someone running ratings reports mix up Chicago Fire and Chicago PD? They've been at the same timeslot the whole season.
ReplyDeleteLast night's Supernatural episode was a doozy. FINALLY Dean unchained. We've been promised all season and it finally happened. But preempted so numbers will be bad. :(
ReplyDeleteI think the comparison was to the 5/13/14 episode, not the finale. I think the finale got a 6.9
ReplyDeleteBaseball is not affecting it too much, 0.1 will drop, no more. 1.4 seems like pretty decent to have a room for drop. Hoping for 0.7 in the finale.
ReplyDeleteWhat will affect it -Arrow finale 3 min overran. So here we go, 2 adjustments down coming.
Agreed. I hate how biased Marc is against every show.
ReplyDeleteA list of each show's HH ratings like ABCs above is perfect and a possible column comparing it to the previous weeks/episode HH rating would be perfect.
The Middle and Modrn Family look low :(
ReplyDeleteCSI Cyber is gonna die on Sunday.
CSI: Cyber to Sundays was one of the worst moves the networks made. It was clearly put there to try to limp it along to syndication, but it's not going to find an audience.
ReplyDeleteModern Family, Blackish, Chicago PD, and SVU were not finales.
ReplyDeleteAlso PD is not being held till November, Fire is...
Just checked.mlastvyear's finale got a 5.7/9 and the day before, got a 6.0/10
ReplyDeleteCome on Agents of shield... oh wait :'( gotta wait till september :'( :D
ReplyDeleteYes it is.
ReplyDeleteAuch.
ReplyDeleteCode Black and MS will be the first two dramas pulled on CBS. How MS can continue, I have no idea. Code Black looks DOA.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was going to say that. Arrow overran big time last night, plus the preemptions, I'll be happy if it could get a 0.6 again.
ReplyDeleteThat hurts :(
ReplyDeleteI'm not used to this type of quite Rating news. Something bad will happen (he said with a very deep voice)
ReplyDeleteYep, much higher. I was expecting much better
ReplyDeleteIt does... :(
ReplyDeleteSo the Nielsen data recording was set at 9.03 for SPN? Please let it be truth.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope this is one of these cases in which HH is misleading
ReplyDeleteMF and blackish finales are next week.
ReplyDeleteCome On, Laura.
ReplyDeleteJensen knocked it out of the park last night. It's sad that I'm hoping for a meagre 0.7. Deserves so much more.
ReplyDeleteARGH AND ONCE AGAIN I CAN't SEE ANYTHING. THIS USE TO WORK ON TABLETS.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly can't you see? Shouting in ALL CAPS does not help.
ReplyDeleteIt works perfectly fine on my tablet.
ReplyDeleteOn my Dish DVR it said SPN starts a 8.05 pm then I think SPN went a few minutes over its times.
ReplyDeleteseason finale of modern family will be next week actually
ReplyDeleteMy DVR seemed to know about it. Fingers crossed – this HH number is so improved over last week; I would hate for the end result to be the same.
ReplyDeleteI was just about to say this! Another school boy error from Marc there!
ReplyDeleteI'm almost afraid to know Arrow's and the Middle's ratings.
ReplyDeleteWas very dumb airing their season finales last night instead of next week
ReplyDeleteUgh! Then it should take a big hit on the ratings, right? :S
ReplyDeleteIt was pre-empted on Chicago... :(
ReplyDeleteArrow: 1.0
ReplyDeleteSupernatural: 0.8
Arrow 1.0
ReplyDeleteThe Middle 1.7
The Middle: 1.7
ReplyDeleteThe Golbergs: 2.0
Modern Family: 2.7
Black-Ish 2.1
Nashville: 1.3
The Middle 1.7
ReplyDeleteThe Goldbergs 2.0
Modern Family 2.7
Blackish 2.1
Nashville 1.3
Survivor: 2.2
ReplyDeleteCSI: Cyber: 1.2
That's low for MF isn't it?
ReplyDeleteNashville is looking good though.
So Arrow 1.1 and SPN 0.7? I can live this that. Pls keep this 0.7!
ReplyDeleteMoL 1.0
ReplyDeleteSVU 1.5
Chicago PD 1.6
Laura: 1.0
ReplyDeleteL&O: 1.5
Chicago PD: 1.6
A 1.0 demo. Knowing it was pre-empted on Chicago, it doesn't sound that bad! Hopefully, it will adjust up to 1.1 in the finals.
ReplyDeleteWith a 1.0 is already the most watched Arrow Finale yet out of the three.
American Idol 1.4/1.8
ReplyDeleteGreat recovery for SVU.
ReplyDeleteToo high for Arrow. That finale was horrible.
ReplyDeleteArrow is most likely not adjusting up, not if it was indeed preempted.
ReplyDeleteI hope Arrow adjusts up. But 1.0 is not bad.
ReplyDeleteLow ratings all around
ReplyDeleteGlad Arrow did well. An upwards adjustment with those half hours is unlikely but even at 1.0, this is the highest rated finale ever for the show, so it is awesome by me.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened with ABC? The bottom of the hour comedies look good but the middle and modern family look weak, especially the middle.
Highest rated finale ever for the show
ReplyDeleteGood for the CW!
ReplyDeleteWaiting for half-hours. Pls!
ReplyDeleteNBC and CW had good nights!
ReplyDeleteIs it possible idol played a role?
ReplyDeleteCBS replaced CM with Cyber
ReplyDeleteThat is cool. I hope we get this good ratings next season. Ratings wise this season was awesome.
ReplyDeleteWere there any preemptions? I'm really good with these numbers.
ReplyDeleteIt is low enough for that to be unlikely I think, but who knows
ReplyDeleteIndeed, no other dramas was up this much!
ReplyDeleteoh that would explain a lot!
ReplyDeleteCyber is very weak, a 1.2 out of a 2.2 is very disappointing
ReplyDeleteHow could NBC renew MoL with such numbers D:
ReplyDeleteArrow's ratings were expected.
Laura actually looks stronger than Cyber here. It aired in the lower viewed hour with local programming lead-in. Cyber aired at 9 with a 2.2 lead-in and it only did 0.2 better.
ReplyDeleteThey renewed it just for 13 episodes, I think it's going to be cancelled next year
ReplyDeleteWhy was Laura renewed again? Those are not good ratings...at all.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why ABC has never done live shows or crossover with their comedies (I guess cuz they are different studios)
ReplyDeletePredictions based con HH ratings anyone? I'm not too good predicting ratings based on HH.
ReplyDeleteI'll be so happy if it does!
ReplyDeleteI agree, he really, really did. Jensen was great!
ReplyDeleteAnd Jared, too. He made me cry like a baby.
I know its weird by im glad to see ratings down as it shows this time of year ratings are at its worst. Makes me feel better (slightly better) with AOS ratings yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThey have an interview with Maria later, can't wait to hear what she has to say about the show and Octavia.
ReplyDeletereally? for the best season finale, The Middle just got 1.7? Dissapointed! (Though, 1.7 is not bad)
ReplyDeleteCW had preemptions in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense then haha
ReplyDeleteNashville steady all right !
ReplyDeleteWhy CBS renewed Cyber is beyond me. It's not doing well on Wednesdays or Tuesdays, since these episodes are its fourth and fifth 1.2 in a row. Stalker did better you know, it only hit a 1.2 once. And now Cyber is being sent to Sundays where it won't pull anything higher than 1.2. The only reason I can think of why it was renewed are international sales.
ReplyDeleteI know! Stupid 500Q
ReplyDeleteCSI: Cyber will reach syndication at the same time Undateable will.
ReplyDeleteNever.
Great for SVU/PD. PD might end up #1 on the week. We'll have to see how The Blacklist performs tonight.
ReplyDeleteBecause at the last second, Greenblatt decided against the negative PR of cancelling all freshman shows. If season zero is to be believed, they drafted a schedule without it. The problem with Laura is it is not funneling viewers into Wednesday which is causing the results for all the night's shows to have reduced returns.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Wednesday has to be a major concern as the entire night is returning in the fall.
ReplyDeleteCBS is just concerned about international sales even if the show goes sub 1's. CSI: Cyber did absolutely horrible with every strong lead in from Criminal Minds, NCIS: NO and Survivor. How in the heck does it lose a full ratings point out of Survivor. And I don't think adding Ted Danson is going to change its fortune.
ReplyDeleteChicago PD will win its hour in the Fall as well.
ReplyDeleteSurvivor and ABC comedies did really well. I do feel The Middle only has 1 year left in the tank. And then The Goldbergs will be ready to lead off the night in its 4th season.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDelete*sighs in relief* thank you. Those are actually very good. Let's just hope they stay the same or adjust up.
ReplyDeleteYou think Nashville is looking good. Nashville pulled in the same demo Revenge garnered for its series finale. It really should be on its way out as well. And definitely should not be able to keep its timeslot. Its is as if ABC just surrender its 10pm timeslot because they are satisfy with the 2 hour comedy block.
ReplyDeleteArrow!
ReplyDeleteSupernatural!
FANTASTIC numbers!!
If the CW was pre empted in Chicago are those numbers going to go down? Especially for Arrow???
ReplyDeleteWhere did you see halfs?
ReplyDeleteI think Supernatural will be more likely to adjust down, but both are still very likely. They're both probably a weak 1.0 and a weak 0.8.
ReplyDeleteShowbuzzdaily
ReplyDeleteI don't exactly call a 2.7 for Modern Family (2nd lowest ever if it holds) as doing well (even though it's the highest number of the night). And without a major story in the works for next week's finale (save for a possible Haley/Andy resolution, or maybe if Mitch's layoff blows up into something dramatic) I don't see the finale getting much of a bump. Yes it's sort of moot for this season since it's been renewed, but I wonder if next season could see the show on the bubble.
ReplyDeleteYou dislike the trailers? Apparently ABC has been promoting it A LOT!
ReplyDeleteLucky you man! It worked fine like 3ish weeks ago ?? Now it's like.... White space. Sighs.
ReplyDeleteIt stayed at 1.0 and SPN at 0.7. Really happy for Arrow!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat Supernatural!!! :D Best show ever!! ♥
