Easily ABC on the first. The CW isn't incompetent, they just had horrible development and that is conditioning what they are able to do here, although I don't really get the choice of holding back Cordon. CBS, Fox and NBC are simply atrocious.
On the second one, do we mean new programming? If so, I would say FOX wins by an hair over ABC. If we say overall, then I give the win to ABC probably.
ABC for scheduling, hopefully with the muppets, quantico and fresh of the boats on tuesday these will help AOS (which is awesome). However FOX programming has me interested.
Most of the scheduling sucks and the programming does too. I guess ABC wins with 3 or so new programs I might check out. As opposed to 2 on Fox, 1 on CW, and none on CBS or NBC.
CBS absolutely sucks. They need a redo. I'm glad they got the SuperBowl because they are going to be aging badly this upcoming season. And I'll be surprised if any of their new shows are able to sustain mid 2's throughout the season.
ABC on both. They have the best schedule, though there are still things I would have done differently. They also have the highest amount of new shows I'm most looking forward to (Quantico, Oil, The Family) while CBS has most of my returning shows.
I think CW/ABC have the best schedules-the have stability and made shows move that made sense. Programming wise idk.Im looking forward to Scream Queens of Fox,Girlfriend on Czw,Telenovela/Hot & Bothered on NBC
I put FOX above ABC slightly on scheduling. I'm not fond of Nashville remaining behind ABC's strong comedies. They have the best 2 hour block on TV so why not find a better drama at 10pm. Also I'm not sure about AOS remaining at 9pm on Tuesday. I think FOX was smart on Thursday. I think they can actually win the hour on Friday @8pm with Masterchef Jr. And of course I'm looking for domination on Tuesday and Wednesday @9pm. ABC has the best new programs as a whole.
ABC! The schedule does have some pitfalls, but not as many as other networks IMO. I'm really looking forward to Quantico. I don't watch anything on Fox so I can't comment on their programming. I think NBC's schedule is the worst. And while I watch several CBS shows and will sample some of the new shows, I think they really messed up the schedule.
Nashville is probably the biggest headscratcher of ABC's schedule, but otherwise it's a good schedule. Fox is ridiculous. Pairing Minority Report with Gotham makes most sense on their schedule, and even then I'm not sure MR will do good since Gotham isn't that high-rated anymore. Fox thinks its comedies can self-start on Tuesday, but it's likely they will flop and drag down Scream Queens in the process. They should have moved Empire to 8 pm instead of premiering Rosewood at 8. They will also have the low-rated combo of Sleepy Hollow and Bones on Thursday.
On programming, I don't have a clear choice. I'm looking forward to Supergirl, The Catch, Oil, Wicked City, Shades of Blue, Superstore, Hot & Bothered, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Real O'Neals, Angel From Hell, Scream Queens and Heroes Reborn.
As far as pairing shows together and trying to create a solid foundation, FOX wins in my book. Both Scream Queens and Empire are 9pm shows. But I understand what you are saying when it comes to ratings. I'm concerned about Tuesday 8pm hour. I don't care about Thursday because all shows are going against Football, so I understand FOX's logic not wanting to premiere anything new on that night.
Top 5 shows: The Muppets, The Family, Of Kings and Prophets, Grandfathered and Scream Queens (from the commercial I saw) Worst: Code Black, People Are Talking, Heartbreakers, Limitless, Lucifer
Just going by the promos that have been released... FOX surprised me the most this year with most of their trailers for new shows pulling me despite having little interest before hand, but NBC has the most shows I will watch.
CBS has less new shows, but I think they have a chance at a very high renewal rate... A chance.
Worst new programs are on ABC easily. Half are almost guaranteed to be cancelled.Of those I think could or will get renewed only one makes my watch list, The Muppets.
Regardless of personal preference, the idea of putting a show like Of Kings and Prophets on when AD bombed for ABC makes absolutely no sense at all. And at 10 PM? No way. Religious themed shows should be on earlier than that.
I voted NBC for the best schedule cause their only mistake was HB and NPH Show should be swapped; MOL could be seen as a mistake, but tbh there's only 13 episodes and they just want to sacrifice it to Empire so I think it was a good move... Then there's all the other networks which made at least 3 mistakes (except The CW which depends on what their plan is for mid-season). At first I voted ABC for the best programming, but then I realized I'm checking out all of Fox's shows (at least I'll watch the pilots) so I changed my vote.
What exactly is so wrong with NBC's programming? The only mistake I see is Tues at 9 and 10 should be swapped. TMOL returning in the Fall isn't a bad move; they're sacrificing it against Empire, which isn't bad...
I don't know why everyone is so high on ABC. With one exception, the freshman shows they renewed had bad ratings and the pilots they picked up look they won't fare any better. Thursdays will be their only really good night on the schedule.
Scheduling: NBC - CBS - FOX - ABC - CW Programming: FOX - NBC - CBS - ABC - CW
Every year they have a slew of new shows and every year it feels like at least half are cancelled. People hated NBC 2 years ago and it was the #1 network for the overall season! XD
CBS and NBC are often higher in revenue than ABC from what I've seen... I just do not get the ABC love whatsoever.
For me, ABC just speaks to me and the type of shows I like, and therefore is why they are my Favorite network. I watch something on ABC everyday except for Monday's. But I guess it's different strokes for different folks. I wish I could stick with NBC Dramas, but they're always cancelled which I hate, bc I like the ideas NBC comes up with. I currently watch SVU and Blacklist... Hopefully Blindspot, The Player and Game of Silence makes it through, so I can watch more NBC. As for CBS, it's too Procedural-esq for me, I only watch The Good Wife and Criminal Minds. But I am excited for Supergirl, Code Black and Limitless. But I always live view ABC.
I think the majority of people are voting in line with their personal viewing habits and preferences instead of any actual assessment of strategy or measures of success. The fact is, most (not all but most) of the shows on ABC that Spoiler TV readers like range from relatively low-rated to very low-rated.
Oh no doubt, taste is personal. I get why people like any given show!!
I just find it amusing how so many people in here mock or hate NBC and CBS and they are the two highest rated networks... even this year. NBC won (or will win) the 8-49 demo and CBS won total viewers
Yeah, I'm definitely not the type that would say I hate or mock NBC or CBS, I just love TV, and if there's a good show, I'm going to watch it regardless of the network. I wish my shows were evenly distributed between the networks, but mine are just heavy ABC. But I watch at least one show on NBC, CBS, and FOX. Plan on picking up 2 or more on each of those as well. However, NBC and CBS, I believe are only ahead of ABC bc of Football. Take Football out the equation, I think there's a total different ball game. *pun intended* LOL
For me, CW. ABC would be my least. I have the last amount of shows on ABC (after cancellations), therefore I enjoy it the least/think programming isn't all that great.
I know I am biased towards certain genres like medical and legal shows (and teen shows... and shipper shows, and soap operas et al), but I can usually tell even when one of those shows is quality. Every year there are shows I think will be hits or solid renewals I knew I will not like and will not watch.... on every network.
I guess on some level it makes sense since a passionate fanbase will make the most noise when "their" show is in danger....
Agreed. This is much like a best vs. favorite situation. I try not to let my preferences interfere with objectivity when asked stuff like this. For instance, I'm not a huge NBC fan but I think they've made some good choices in new shows and some helpful tweaks in their schedule for the fall. On the other end, I think The CW is going to get crushed on Mondays and Thursdays even more than normal in the fall. It could be really brutal.
Football and Olympics! That's true, but I have a harder tie just ignoring the sports since that is a large part of their strategy.
I have some on every network I watch, but more and more I find myself watching cable shows or overseas shows.
I do think it's like you said above though, some networks have a style for their sitcoms, or their drams or for everything. Sometimes it connects with people and others it annoys. That said, I personally can tell the difference between shows even within the same style.I never find all of them good I guess. Maybe just me. *Shrug*
As much as I like a few shows on CW, I never even consider them when it comes to ratings since almost every network crushes them routinely! XD
But I agree, I am not a huge fan of FOX - not at all! I still think that they had the best promos this year. Easily. I may not watch all the shows I've seen previewed, but I thought that they showed their new series off in the best possible balance of story and action. They were so good I may even watch a few shows I had no intention of watching prior to the promos. ABC was the exact opposite. I planned on watching a few shows until the promos turned me off so much. Maybe the shows will be better and different than the promos, but if the trailers highlight the romance and soap-like drama I assume the shows will focus on those aspects more... Not for me.
Yeah, and you almost can always tell by the show which network it's gonna go on. But I would say CW, with Containment and the CBS lineup and steering away from its norm, which I like. ABC more so stayed the same, but seeing that's my fav, I'm not mad. Lol. I do wish ABC focused on more male focused leads, it's very female-lead heavy, just wish they'd even it out a bit.
Agreed about FOX. They definitely got aggressive after Reilly left. It helps that they now have Empire to bolster the network. Without that series I doubt they could have made the choices they made.
Don't get me wrong about The CW. I don't see them as competition for other networks. I'm just saying that the way the broadcast schedules have panned out along with the particularly low-rated programming on both Mondays and Thursdays, you could see that network really struggling for viewers. I think you'll see both Jane the Virgin and The Originals drop below 1 million viewers fairly often next season. I'm also guessing you'll be seeing some 0.3 demo ratings.
Definitely agree... Like you said earlier about cable shows. Those are my absolute fav. I like dark, gritty, and crazy type of shows. And cable can go there.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
ABC>CW>FOX=CBS>NBC
ReplyDeleteVoted for ABC both times.

are you gonna make polls about favourite new shows for next season. i would love that ^^
ReplyDeletei voted abc for the second poll but no vote for the first one because every network made smart and dumb moves in my opinion
I put FOX above ABC slightly on scheduling. I'm not fond of Nashville remaining behind ABC's strong comedies. They have the best 2 hour block on TV so why not find a better drama at 10pm. ReplyDeleteBest schedule? CBS or NBC. It's a toss up.
ReplyDeleteBest programming? NBC. Second place CBS.
Best of the bunch: Blindspot, Limitless, Frankenstein Code, Muppets
Worst of the bunch: Code Black, People Are Talking, Rosewood, Of Kings and Prophets
ABC FOR BOTH!!!
ReplyDeleteTop 5 shows: The Muppets, The Family, Of Kings and Prophets, Grandfathered and Scream Queens (from the commercial I saw)

ReplyDeleteThat show and its scheduling do make me wonder what their plan was.... Counter-programming?
ReplyDeleteScheduling wise though CBS and NBC made me wonder what they were thinking the most despite the fact I like the majority or their offerings.
I think that it's just placeholder for The Family. They wanted to put it with Oil, but some reason waited until midseason.
ReplyDeleteNetflix?
ReplyDeleteIt seems like NBC is in last place for both LMAO
ReplyDeleteFOX, ABC, The CW are my favorite overall schedules.
ReplyDeleteABC Quantico, The Catch, The Grinder & OIl. CBS Supergirl & Limitless + Shadowhunters ABC Family

ReplyDeleteABC - best schedule (most consistent)
ReplyDeleteFOX - best programming (BOLD, grabbed my attention)
Best-ABC.
ReplyDeleteWorst-NBC.
ABC & CW
ReplyDeleteABC without a doubt!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why everyone is so high on ABC. With one exception, the freshman shows they renewed had bad ratings and the pilots they picked up look they won't fare any better. Thursdays will be their only really good night on the schedule.

Best Scheduling: ABC - Everything seems to flow well
ReplyDeleteBest Programming: CW - Only network where every single program interests me.
But they aren't, so their move failed, and FOX has to be laughing at NBC.
ReplyDeleteABC everything. They did a great job picking up Comedies and Dramas everything looks promising to a different crowd each
ReplyDelete
