    Lying, talking to rats, and throwing Sam under the bus ; just another day in the giant Microsoft commercial passing itself off as Supernatural.

    That was just the absolute cringe fest. The good news is, I don't think the show can sink any lower.

    I mean the main plot is what it is, but then you've got the tablet the super zooming tablet, Crowley being season 10 Crowley, Dean chaining that guy up but only on one hand, the ridiculous revelation that Styne = Frankenstein, Charlie running off for some reason... I mean, when freaking ROWENA is a high point of the episode, you know something's really, really wrong here.

    Only two weeks left of this and then just maybe the show can become bearable again.

    Crazy as this sounds, I actually voted awesome. The whole thing was pretty funny, and reservations aside, I think they did a good job with Charlie's death. It put the choices clearly on Charlie's shoulders, and her death was needed to act as a catalyst to get both Sam and Dean to the next stage In their stories.

    People have been talking about Charlie dying for weeks but it became real to me because of 2 things: 1) when Charlie left by herself, and 2) next weeks episode description says that "Sam tries to deal with the consequences of his actions".

    I don't really get how people are voting that this was an Awful episode, by them saying that they are making the episode Bloodlines from season 9 look amazing when it was the worst episode in the entire SPN series it's even voted the worst on IMDb.

    Really liked the Frankenstein twist. I didn't see that coming. Wonder who the name was that Crowley sent the minion to look for? Hated that they killed Charlie but she knew the risk and took it to help Dean. I don't understand why Cas can no longer "pop" to locations? Sam and Dean's faces at the end were heartbreaking. The guilt they will both feel will be horrible. Can't believe we only have 2 more episodes. As much as I hated what happened I though the episode was good.

    Many of the "awful" voters probably seriously pissed off with Charlie's death. I am waiting for "misogyny" comments, they are coming, I can feel it.
    It was "OK' for me, annoying product placement really ruin it.

    I feel like the mystery person — Rowena’s “demon lover” is Crowley’s dad. It’d be interesting to learn more about him, and tbh, I kind of enjoy Royena’s debut on Spn and if Crowley’s dad isn’t more different, why not?

    Castiel can still heal. He could even heal when he was working with 'stolen' grace. He healed Metatron's neck wound after he slit his throat to steal his grace. It's just the wings that are broken.

    She really shouldn't have. It's a shame they had to introduce this nonsensical decision from her to try to alleviate some of Sam's guilt.
    Truth is Charlie's death is on him and that's it. And it just makes me a bit uncomfortable to watch a show where supporting character happily go to the slaughter for the main cast.

    2 thoughts: 1) maybe Cas can heal the living but is not at full strength to resurrect the dead......or 2) maybe because Charlie's soul is in Heaven and Cas has been banished from Heaven again.

    I agree that the supporting characters should not be sacrificed so much and that Sam had a role in this. But Charlie's decision to leave put her in a position to get killed where no one was there to protect her. I think it was stupid and out of character for her leave but Charlie did something stupid that got her killed.

    I don't think it was on him. He'll feel guilty, and Dean will blame him, but it wasn't really on Sam. Sam disclosed all of the risks to Charlie, and she agreed. He brought in an angel to protect her, and she ditched the angel, knowing she was being hunted by the Steins. And then both Sam and Dean told Charlie to give the Steins whatever she wanted, but she made a choice. In the end it wasn't either Rowena or the book that did her in, but someone who was hunting her before Sam asked for her help. I can't remember who asked her originally to go after the book though.

    This episode was crap and seriously Charlie is a smart girl. I don't buy for a second that she'd run off by herself. The writing this season has hit an all time low and now due to Sam's lies by omission and the writer's making Charlie out to be a complete moron, she paid the ultimate price. I am soooo over this clusterfrak season. My recommendation for season eleven? Get rid of all the craptastic writers and/or bring Kripke back. This show was once brilliant. Now it's a royal suckfest.

    I'm not sure why you would mention IMDB as if it meant anything, but I voted awful and I mean it. At least Bloodlines was just a failed experiment, not a slap in the face.
    That was basically 35 minutes of Sam lying his ass off, followed by the lamest character death in a show that specializes in lame character deaths.
    If you liked it, good on you, but please refrain from calling people out because they didn't.

    Charlie took her laptop to a motel to work alone and without Rowena. Charlie told Cas that she needed to have some alone time. There was no reference to the book. Charlie was working as a code breaker using the computer to find patterns. That is what she did at the motel, she just figured out the pattern.

    Supernatural is the same as it ever was. The brothers trying to save each other while keeping secrets and collateral damage following. This time it's Sam that is going to take the hit because he lied to Dean about destroying TBotD and enlisted Cas and Charlie's help to decode the book. The collateral damage in this case being that Charlie is now dead. Can't wait to see how Dean handles finding out Sam has Rowena locked up with the promise that he will kill Crowley. Que Dean screaming at Sam with Sam being overwrought with guilt. Why do the writers want to screw over Sam's character over and over? Why are they killing off characters who have become family to Sam and Dean? Even though the brothers are the heart of the show, Supernatural can and should involve more characters than just Sam and Dean.

    The only interesting part of this episode was the Stein twist. Other than that, it was a disaster. Now we get to see everyone blame Sam for Charlie's death ... no one more so than Sam himself. Why didn't she stay with Cas? Charlie knew the Steins were after her and how dangerous it was for her to be out there on her own. I know why ... it was a p*ss poor plot twits to amp up the suspense and put Sam and Dean at odds with each other for the hundredth time.

    I said Sam's lies by omission. I didn't say those lies were directed at Charlie. He just drug her, Cas, and Rowena into his lies to Dean. In the end, she suffered the consequences by doing the stupidest, out of character thing even. Sam will feel guilty for that and rightfully so.

    They just don't value the fanbase. They have a huge female driven demographic, and a lot of queer fans and they get rid of the one character who represents us and who they've worked hard to make us love and identify with. This series isn't entertainment for me now. This is that one episode that put the final nail on the coffin for me. I can't watch this series anymore. I wish Charlie would have been given her own spin-off. Or just been allowed to leave off (like she had to Oz). Killing her wasn't just unnecessary, it was rather cruel to, to fans. I don't know. I'm too upset to say more...

Charlie was more protected with the angel protection Sam left her with then she was on her own. Charlie put herself in danger by leaving her angel protection.

    As is, if we are counting 2+ appearances as recurring there are 28 currently still living. 26 if you don't count Crowley and Cas, and even then only about a quarter of them appear on a regular basis. So yeah, the pool of characters is pretty small.

    I only voted "good" because I thought the first half of the episode was tedious (humor aside) but the second half was seriously intense. Agree that Charlie did what she did of her own motivations. And I agree that they did a good job with Charlie's death. Pleasantly surprised that they did not show Charlie getting killed – that might have felt gratuitous. The way it was depicted, while gruesome, seemed less like an exploitation.

    Wow. I was quite literally on the edge of my seat (couch, specifically) for the second half of the episode. First half was very Buckner/Ross-Lemming (awkward dialogue, lots and lots and lots and lots of talking, plodding pace), but the second half ratcheted up the intensity and the heart.


    The scene where Dean reveals to Sam that he knows about the Book gave me chills. The angle, Dean's movements – that was the scariest I've seen Dean this season. And this was with Sam. Holy cow.


    And Charlie's death. Knew it was coming, but the music and the frenetic pacing still made my heart clench. Glad they did not show her death. What could have been gratuitous was instead just tragic. Because Charlie made her own choices. She chose, at every turn, to keep going and to do what she was doing in order to help Dean. Her last act was an act of sacrifice. I know Sam will blame himself anyway, but I have hope based on the preview that Dean will channel his rage towards the Stynes and not Sam.

    Ah true, but I have always had a theory about that. See perhaps he hid is grace for a time to become human, met Rowena, taught her a few things. Claimed he was a demon. Fell in love with her, then had baby Fergus, who lived a mortal life.
    Or He was born a Nefillam and either Metatron or Rowena took his grace when he was a baby.
    *sigh* So many interesting theories lie around Crowley as many, even Mark Sheppard, think that he is more than just a demon

    Actually, he wasn't totally upfront with them, or at least with Castiel. He (Cas) had to find out from Rowena herself that Crowley is her son which might have been something that Sam really should have told him.
    Still, you are right, of course, Sam's lies did not cause Charlie's death.

    I was somehow excited about the 3 last episodes after reading Jensen's interview. After seeing what the Awful Duo did to create a situation to set Dean off and all the rest of the episode, some points come to my mind:


    - When Charlie died, I thought imediately "Cas can ress her" and then when I watch the preview for the next episode, I was like "What kind of bullsh*t they are going to say to prevent Cas to ress her? He couldn't do it with Kevin because he had no power. Not the same situation now." . And Charlie's death sets Dean off. I knew it'd happen but it was so contrived (Charlie leaving Cas and Rowena and pretty much forgetting all about her super ultra ninja skills) that I feel it took away some of whatever impact this awful MoC storyline will have. Dean becomes a murder machine, true, but the reason is weak, so weak. Especially when nothing is happening to him so far. He played minigolf for god's sake. I like good stories. But this MoC storyline is so badly paced that it only took 30+ episodes to something happens ( and I have the impression that it will continue in season 11). So for me Cas not ressing her is a ENORMOUS plot hole. Maybe kidnapping her was a better way...


    - Frankenstein? Really? Really??? Doc Benton (season 3) anyone? What's next? Dracula? Teletubbies? Here I was hoping for something better with the Stynes.


    - Sam living under the bus, nothing new. Let the Dean blaming Sam situation start...


    - Rowena was really good. I think she was the best character.


    - I still stand by my idea that Dean locks Sam up, but only for a different reason. I thought he'd do it to protect Sam but now it's for Sam not stopping him. All things are pointing to Dean killing Sam scenario. Dean will be so far gone that Sam will try to reach out and he'll be back for a short time and when we think he's in control, BAM, he kills Sam, and back to being a demon ( which would make the entire season 10 pointless).

    I think I can finally stop watching this show. Charlie wasn't my favorite character but this season has been terrible and I told myself if charlie or jodi die (Next season jodi will most likely die) I'm done with supernatural. I'm sort of relieved one less show to keep track of.

    I'm a fan and I'm happy Charlie was killed off. And how did they "work hard" to make people love her? She was in 7 episodes of over 200. Was she automatically loved because she was a lesbian? Just a heads up, people of all sexual orientation can be annoying. If they left her the way she was in the first two episodes, she would have been fine, but they turned her into a Mary Sue. I'm going to be pissed if this characters death affects the guys mote than other more significant deaths have.

    Do you remember last episode when Cas was apologising to Amelia for not being able to heal her as much as he would have liked to? He mentioned how 'once' he would have been able to do it, which implies that either (a) Metatron's been fiddling around with his grace or (b) a sizeable portion of it was used up during the spell to cast the angels out of heaven. It should also be noted that Cas was unable to bring Amelia back to life as well, which does seem to suggest that he does not possess the same level power as he did before - at least in contrast to an angel like Gadrel, who last season, was reviving people like it was about to go out of style.

    Yeah, I know, I know, it was a single line of dialogue. But I believe were meant to infer from that why it is that Castiel can't yank Charlie (and others!) back into the land of the living.

    When Dean leaves the room, leaving him chained up, I couldn't help but think of all of the fandom wank about leaving Abaddon alone. But really - not aimed at you specifically - but I'm tired of the fandom's constant need to assign blame whenever something bad happens. One of the first things we learned about the Winchester world is that their world is much too dangerous for everyone. It's why they fight it.


    In response to other comments on this thread, thinking more about Charlie, I don't think it was OOC for her to go off on her own. She's always been portrayed as a very independent character who grew up with little family so is not used to having to report in to anyone, who takes huge chances (such as going off to Oz). Plus, she was alone at the beginning of the episode before Sam met with her. The Stynes were looking for her and the book then, and they were looking for her a few hours later when she returned to her motel room.

    One thing I don't understand is why it's so important to have someone "represent" fans on the show. I'm a female, and I watch and love a number of show with strong female leads, but I'm equally okay with shows that are male-centric too. This show has always had a male-only family at its core (not counting Mary because she was killed in the pilot flashbacks), while other miscellaneous characters come and go. My two cents anyway, for what it's worth.

    Ugh . . . I'm watching it now before I head off to work, and I just had to stop and post my complete frustration with this crappy, NON-STORY that is the MOC. Sam just told Rowena that Dean was getting worse, and he just told Charlie that Dean would be "gone" soon if they didn't find this cure. I'm sorry but . . . . . WHAT IS HE TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!?!!??! I feel like pulling out my hair b/c I see absolutely NOTHING WRONG w/Dean! How is Dean getting worse? How was he bad in the first place? So Dean enjoys hunting right now . . . . okay . . . . since when hasn't Dean enjoyed hunting?!?! Who is writing this show? This story sucks! It just does not work for me. It is all "tell" and no "show." I want to see Dean's "violent urges, creepy visions, and dark thoughts." He is mostly seen behaving normally.

    And I don't care what anyone says . . . . there is literally NO legitimate reason Sam is keeping this a secret from Dean. What would Dean do if he knew? Kill Sam? Lock Sam up? I doubt it. He'd likely do nothing. This is just manufactured, contrived drama since the writers are clearly out of new, fresh ideas.
    I did just love Castiel's call to Sam that Dean intercepted. That scene was hilarious.

    Dean would get dictatorial about having his way, but I miss the Sam that would just say, "I'm doing what I'm doing just because ..." But unfortunately the writers decided they needed to rewrite Sam's character and have the rebellious younger brother afraid to stand up to Dean now.


    I agree with you that the "Dean's getting worse" was almost played to a comical level this week because Dean seemed like the most well-adjusted person in the episode.

    Exactly! Where is the Sam of old who would tell Dean he was going to do what he wanted when it came to saving Dean? What does Sam think Dean would do to him anyway? Why can't he tell Dean he's researching it? What is the point of the manufactured angst and conflict? Isn't the MOC enough of an external conflict? Why must we always get an internal conflict?
    I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees ZERO problem w/Dean. He seems fine and well-adjusted to me. The idea that he's gonna go insane b/c Charlie died is just . . .. ugh. I wish he would have been on the edge this entire season instead of very well-adjusted!

    Aside from bending extremely backward to create a tragic situation to set Dean off, I liked the episode, it was entertaining. I even LOLed at Rowena in "for Dean" part, the character I usually FF when she was on screen. She wasn't even annoying, I don't know why Charlie was that frustrated, ... of course plot demanded!

    And every time Sam said Dean is getting worse, I was stuck between laughing or crying over the massive urgency on a non-existent dilemma! I know Carver feels if he lets the story progress during the season, he'd spoil it, but this is ridiculous. It's like curing the mark is more damaging than the mark itself. We get it, Dean is controlling it, easily IMO, but at least show what worries Sam, like the physical set-back of not killing you dropped in 9.23, let Sam say like "I'm waking up every night by his nightmares" instead of just saying "he's getting worse". Worse how? The way they presented it, Dean would have lived happily, like poor Cain was with his bees, if there wasn't any trigger to snap them.

    BTW I don't understand why everyone is blaming Sam for Charlie's death. He warned Cas to not let her go alone because there were dangerous people looking for her.     Cas lost his grace in Heaven. He was then sent to Earth as a human much like Anna who ripped out her grace and fell to Earth as a human. Anna hid her grace in a tree on Earth, and when she needed it, she retrieved it, used it to power up, and had full wings.
    Cas found his grace in a library on EARTH. He should have full wings and full powers. There is no reason his wings should be burned out!

    Sam is definitely not to blame for Charlie's death. She went into this eyes wide open. It's not like Kevin's death last year when Dean should have warned Kevin to about the angel possessing Sam so Kevin could protect himself. Here, Sam gave Charlie all the info she needed. Plus, Charlie knew that family was hunting her b/c they had been doing so before she even met up w/Sam and Dean a few episodes ago. I'm sure Dean will blame Sam, but it's not Sam's fault she's dead.

    Castiel should be able to revive her, but the writers forgot that he should have full wings and powers. I guess they think Cas fell to Earth like the other angels instead of being sent to Earth as a human b/c his grace was extracted in HEAVEN!!!! Anna ripped out her own grace in Heaven and still had full wings when she retrieved her grace so why doesn't Cas?

    Man I enjoyed the episode and thought it was overall a positive step forward from how supernatural has been. I mean the general Rowena and Sam lying to Dean storylines were garbage and Crowley talking to the Gerbil was cringeworthy. However the revelation that the Stiens are the Frankenstein I had been thinking for a while now. The last few years I was hoping that super would incorporate the Frankenstein Monster into their mythology in some point. Although not the way I would of done it, it is a creative step forward in the show and gave a feel of the old supernatural as well as a new horror direction that the show could take if they desired. The death of Charlie was a nice catalyst and really was needed to bring the brothers to the forefront of the story. I loved her character but the way they had used her this season really had me disheartened to the point that I am glad that they were able to salvage the character in my eyes with her death.

    Now my big hope is that the brothers will unleash the Frankenstein monster in the finale giving us a cohesive big bad for the next season. Probably will not happen seeing as how they have handled their characters recently has been very lackluster but one can hope.

    Charlie's death is NOT Sam's fault. He told her the deal. She chose to help him. She chose to leave the dungeon/warehouse or wherever they were. She had the Stynes hunting her BEFORE she even hooked up w/Sam and Dean a few episodes ago.
    Charlie went into this eyes wide open. She wanted to help Dean, and she died for it. That's on her, not Sam. She could have refused to help Sam, or she could have put on her trusty iPod, tuned out Rowena, and just worked on her project in that dungeon.

    Because some of the male fans that follow the show do not agree with every TRAGIC comment that the show is dying or "Oh no it killed off a favorite character!". With sci-fi and horror sadly represented on TV and almost NO really good network shows based in those genres I'm glad to have Supernatural even if sometimes it can be a bit staid. But seriously the fandom on this show is the WORST fandom I have EVER seen on a show. Complains about everything when it could be the show is off the air and people have nom way to fill their dreary nights without being able to complain about something. I'm just glad the show is on the air for now, far worse things happen in life than a show letting some fans down.

    I reeeeally enjoyed this episode. Expect for the stupid Frankenstein part and i really dont understand how this epsiode get a 63% awful while the most boring episodes get an overall "awesome"

    I will be the heartless one saying the writing was pretty much on the wall for Charlie to go. Sad to see her go I like her with the boys. I am not blaming Sam yes they could have kept her safe but the Stynes I think would have hunt her down no matter what I think the guys should have let her stay at the bunker until the family bit it. JMO. Felicia created a character that she was able to connect with Sam and Dean. I doubt the show will be cancelled in 1/2 season 11. I think S12 will be last my predication. I just hope Jody, Donna, claire and Alex live for that long. RIP charlie.

    BoxMan, I do agree that the episode, and this season, are not the greatest. But I did not think this episode was awful. It was ok, but Rowena has got to go! I miss Cass getting decent story lines, and Crowley doing ANYTHING! UGH! I hope you are right about it becoming bearable again!

    i c what everyone is saying but i don't get it: y r we mourning charlie like that? dead is not gone as in 'annihilated' as in 'no more' as in 'end' in this show. it has four realms: mortal, heaven, hell, and purgatory. (with probably a few adjacent dimensions like the land of Oz). nobody is gone, they just move to another realm. and more often than not, they come and go. of course, charlie not being on the mortal real any more, and the show mostly focusing on said mortal realm, means that we won't c her that much, but, though i shall miss her, she was a recurring character anyways, and i'm used to not seeing her much.
    the way she changed realms was a bit insulting though: charlie was clever and smart. no way she'd have gone to the motel by herself when she knew she was being hunted. nope.

    They don't know how to pace their stories, been like that for a while. Just as I said the beginning 3 episodes, ok we getting to the bottom of it. All of sudden the middle of the season nothing happens just fillers. Then boom the last 3 episodes of the season "OMG Dean is so bad everything is collapsing". That's why I can't get into it like I would like too.

    The show would have Dean blame Sam for his conception but in all honesty considering what happened last season and the consquences of him getting the MOC this season it would in reality be hard for Dean to justify anger at Sam.

    However this is SPN and the Sam blame game is a common occurrence .
