  1. Great start I think, eerie and slightly strange, very different for a BBC One show but very welcome for this viewer. Marc Warren is fab as the Gentleman with the Thistledown Hair, although he's only in the episode briefly, and Childermass and Vinculus are also wonderful.

Here's a BTS shot from the spell at York Minster, I thought that the status looked amazing :)

  2. Whoever voted it was awful is an idiot.

  3. You are absolutely right about Marc Warren as the Gentleman with the Thistledown Hair, wow, what a performance (and transformation), I don’t watch The Musketeers, my sister does (but I’ve seen a few episodes, hope to get more time to catch up) but he was excellent. The costume and hair was really wonderful, I loved how his coat was like leaves, such attention to detail. He did frighten me a little, I don’t know why but it was his presence :)

Mr. Strange was lots of fun, he is my favourite so far, he picked up magic very quickly though. I liked Mr. Norrell too, he’s an interesting fellow. I enjoyed Segundus also, he was a fun character, I wondered if we weren’t going to see more of him but thankfully next weeks sneak peek reiterated that we are :)

It was a bit slow at first but a really excellent episode all round. The CGI was really good and effects too, the mirror effect with Mr. Strange and friends was really cool, the story too, your right about this prophecy being the central storyline and the Raven King (I wonder what he wants?) can’t wait till the two magicians meet. It was funny at times too which I liked. The scenery was so lovely to look at, the tree where Mr. Strange wanted to propose to his best friends sister was really nice (I liked old and twisted tress in nature, something really magical about them, maybe its just reminiscent of the Weeping Willows, Harry Potter ). West Yorkshire, thats where its filmed right? Such a beautiful and enchanting place, the architecture and scale was lovely, it made the show have a movie quality about it.

I wonder if the reason the Gentleman took half of Lady Pole's finger is to bind him to her of her life? Maybe if they get it back he cannot hold her life anymore? Either I want to know more about him.

I’m looking forward to next week and more of Lady Pole, she intrigues me. I hope the show does well and can get renewed like Poldark.

  4. Our resident troll, they seem to vote awful on just about every poll going.

  5. Marc Warren's intensity as the Gentleman is just fantastic, you can well believe the sway he holds over the mortals in our realm with his performance. I know that I can perhaps a bit bias as I have been a big fan of his for quite some time, but I really am enjoying these baddie roles that he seems to taking on recently, he's marvellous in them.

The attention to detail is great, no wonder it's taken so long for them to get the show made, I believe they started filming in Oct 2013. It's one of those shows where I think it's important to get these things right though.

I like Strange and Norrell, the description of them being both sides of a coin is a good one I think. They are opposites that attract each other, though there will more of that next week. It's interesting that Jonathan's enemy spell showed him Norrell, for example, and that the spell originated from Norrell too before being passed through Childermass and Vinculus.

I believe you will like the house that you glimpse the inside of in one of the sneak peaks, again it's very typical for the area it's filmed in and brings to mind the Harry Potter other worldly feel.

Unfortunately, it didn't do very well in its slot at all, 4.5m was it's average. In some ways I'm not entirely surprised, the show is unlike anything the BBC normally produce, and certainly in that timeslot. I am gutted though, as it does make a second season hard to go for, if that is the intention. I think it would have faired better on BBC Two if I'm honest, and perhaps at a slightly early time, I can't see why it needs to be on after the watershed, 8pm would be ok imo.

  6. Being a fan helps :) He was excellent so the praise is more than okay. I liked your use of the two sides of a coin :) They have certainly put a lot of effort into the show, it definitely shows.

That's unfortunate to hear but I can understand. Thanks for letting me know. It may be hard for some viewers to get into and like you said its not a typical show for the channel. Hopefully everything is self contained or resolved in some manner, at the very least if its not renewed.

I did see one of those preview videos that the BBC One YouTube channel had for BBC 2 with new shows they have to premiere, The Last Kingdom and London Spy (the two I'm interested in), so I hope they do better. Always nice chatting with you :)

  7. I saw that promo too, I do like Ben Whishaw so am very much looking forward to London Spy too, and Last Kingdom looks interesting, though again I haven't read the books at all. The BBC seem to have adapted a lot of books this season, lol.

From what I understand from the novel, things are resolved in that, so even if the show doesn't get there then there is the book to fall back on I guess. But I do hope that they have adapted the whole thing for this season.

  8. He's one of the reasons I want to see London Spy, besides the Spy premise :) I do hope Matt Smith can return to TV one day, did you see Arthur Darvill on the CW Trailer 'Legends of Tomorrow', he looked so awesome and he's a time master now :) .The Last Kingdom based on the promo looked very different to what I had pictured based on the casting and press release. I haven't read the books either. They definitely have done a lot of adapting, I saw some positive remarks about Strange & Norrell especially from the fans of the book on Twitter so thats promising :)

    Me too :)

  9. I saw him in Mojo with Colin Morgan & Rupert Grint, he is one of my favourite actors, I need to see him on the stage again, but TV will do for now, lol.

Can't wait for Legends too, I read Arthur's AMA on Reddit yesterday, man is he patient with DW questions even now XD The guy is a legend in his own right ;) :)
