One of my favorite episodes this season. The stories flowed well, the pace was good.. Ellen Pompeo was FANTASTIC. I'm glad they're giving her great material. Amelia had a point, sure, but she still comes off as selfish and annoying to me.. enough with all of her dramatic speeches every week.
Here comes the end of Alex and Jo.. I don't mind her as much as I used to, but I like that Alex is finally getting some story and I'm sorting of rooting for them to pair him with Maggie. I'm also all for Bailey as chief, that's a way to finally freshen up her story next year and bring her back to the forefront a bit more.
Some thoughts: Are they really hinting at Jo and Owen exiting? Is the new blonde male intern George 2.0? Is next year going to be Alex / Maggie / Meredith and the kids living in the old intern house??
this is a great episode. love every scene. #omelia #merandamy #owenandalex #ladydoctorsonsite #calzona #edwardnewnazi but the winning scene is April at the END!
I think the only way Meredith could function in that moment was to get everything done. Sort of being in a bubble and if she would have let Amelia's emotions in her bubble she would have not been able to do what needed to be done. I get that i'ts really painfull for Amelia that she could not say goodbye or try to help but I think Mer needed to focus inward/ think of herself to be able to take one step in front of the other and I think for me it makes Amelia come across as a bit self centered that she can't see past her own feelings.
I simply thought he was the answer to Stephanie's prayers, a younger wannabee Derek with Moose up hair and poof magic he is an intern to boot. Serious nonsense to allow a person privileges without asking for his ID. Not going to happen.
Amelia was with a patient (Jerome) when Derek went into the ER and then OR. Assuming AMelia fixed that, Meredith did not get told Derek was in an accident until 5 PM. By the time Meredith arrives it is all but over: 7:30 pm They send Meredith word there after to pull the plug. Let's say eight-ish. Derek has been dead now for going on about 4 hours. His right eye is ruined. His lungs and other organs are damaged and his brain was denied proper circulation for almost 2 hours. He is a vegetable. Amelia would not have been able to save him and as for saying "Goodbye", wait until next week when April tells Meredith that she Amelia and Bailey spoke to Derek that morning and never told Meredith how Derek was doing at that time. Quid Pro Quo, you want respect first you have to give respect. April being gone for most off the year made sure the topic of that day did not come up accidentally. Right now you have all four girls in one OR, not thinking this will not come up given the horse's rearend Amy just made of herself. "I perform Miracles"... Last I heard Herman was in an LTAC unable to see due to complications. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NGO1O8to6c Expect the news that Amy talked to Derek and kept it from Meredith to be unforgiveable as Meredith said her goodbye to a dead man. Amy said hers to Derek.
BTW for trivia sake they pulled the plug on Mark at 5 PM and he lasted hours before dying on Derek he died instantaneously.
As for Jo and Alex this is a bizarro twist they have been setting up for ever since Meredith dreamed what if Ellis and Richard stayed together and her mom did not get demented. In that fantasy Alex is her husband. Jo is the girl Alex loves but is that the way things turn out as they are the only pairing of the original cast that have not had sex yet. They joked about that earlier this season. It is likely they will be tested and it is likely Jo will be caught in a disfiguring accident that will force Alex to choose taking care of Jo like he did Rebecca or taking care of Meredith who will always be Derek's love and Christina's person.
Oh and Debbie Allen was named Executive producer so expect she will be trying for Chief of Surgery but Meredith has her vote, Derek's vote, and Lexie's Vote. So this will be a big fight ahead as shares do not equal votes And Jackson has only one vote on the board. Amelia could have Owen's vote; Bailey would have Richard, Arizona and perhaps Callie though Callie is financially tied to Derek and his censors. The shocker could be if Bailey pulls out and gives her votes to Meredith or Meredith gives her votes to Maggie who most likely just found out her parents have separated. Another surprise could be that Christina never resigned her seat on the board so that one never opened up.
I really liked this episode. Omg the feels between Amelia and Meredith. April was always one of my favorite characters as the underdog, she is my hero now. Jo has to leave, I want Maggie and Alex! And how adorable was Arizona, glad that she is back to her happy self.
He keep seemed really goofy and sort of awkward. There hasnt really been a regular character like that since Lexi. I actually wouldnt mind if we got a funny, well-developed character like that to brighten stuff up a bit and bring in new stories a bit. Plus I love when we actually we to see our older docs teaching. Especially Callie, Bailey, Alex and Meredith.
I even love the red hair intern. Please tell me they do not break up Karev and Jo just to make something happen with Meredith. WHat bad news gave Maggie's mom? #BadAssApril i love you! I really think it's best for Meredith to elave the hospital, be with ehr family, she is a mess, she is breaking and anyone can understand her. She has lost everythign in that freacking place.
1. That ending was something else. The music, the directing, for a second I thought they mistakenly put a clip of Supergirl in there. I'm really liking the new April. She has grown immensely on me over the years and I hope they use the new version of her to give her a more prominent role. 2. Why does everyone suddenly wanna join the freaking army? I was never a big fan of the Jolex pairing, so I don't mind if they split up. And it was such a great moment for Alex when he told Jo why he doesn't leave. 3. It did seem odd to me that Andrew would want to fill out paper work when the hospital was overflowing with patients. I didn't think he'd turn out to be intern. I seriously hope they don't pair him up with Stephanie. And what the hell was that intern thinking loosening the collar? 4. I'm tired of Catherine and Richard. Can't he just retire and ride into the sunset with Catherine? I'm glad Debbie Allen will work more behind the camera than in front of it next season. 5. Bailey as Chief. That is all. 6. Ellen Pompeo did an awesome job in this episode. Amelia did have a point about not being able to say goodbye but I still found it arrogant of her to say she couldn't be saved him.
Amelia also lost the pregnant lady in episode 16 because they did not get her to a CT. The lady died of a massive brain bleed before Arizona stepped in to deliver the baby. Amelia said there was nothing she could do after suffering a massive brain bleed.
The point was and still is bad things happen to good people and one does not know if they will make the right choices until it goes bad and by then it may be too late. SIeze the day. Do not wait until tomorrow to tell some one you are there for them, be there for them at that moment.
Note: if Amy had been more emphatic about needing Derek's help in the OR he would have turned around and gone to work. She did not.
What is scary is she is performing brain surgery and talking on a cell phone at the same time he is driving and neither of them realizes the problem they are creating for the other.
That is true. Also no way Amelia could have saved him even if she was allowed to operate on him. Amelia is being delusional thinking she could have saved him when in the past couple of episodes she lost three patients in Derek's condition. Derek was pronounced brain dead by three doctors. She should not be blaming Meredith for her decision to take him off life support. Way to abuse the widow even more.
Yes I too have had to make that decision.
At the accident scene, Amelia did not say one solution for the guy trapped in the car. When April told the others to leave, Amelia did not say anything. Not sure why Amelia feels it is OK to use Meredith as a punching bag. Wish Meredith was more like her mother. Could not imagine Ellis putting up with that nonsense.
Actually thinking earlier how Yang is missing nor Ellis. Christina was cold in her medicine and always was. that is part of why she and Meredith were such quick friends. They were more rational than everyone else. They saw the limits on life and tested them anyway. Amelia has no clue the consequences of her actions. She does not face death, she simply tries to deny its existence.
I have and am facing a decision yet again. It does not matter if you have time to share the news. Some will not even care when you give it to them. Some will refuse to come. Some will not answer the phone. Some will want you to prolong the potential suffering forever, and some will call back too little too late. There are new forms of death unlike in the past. The person you may be taking care of may not even know who he is or who you are or why it is it is hard to sleep. The doctors will tell you to put that person in hospice as it is too much work for one person to handle. You will call everyone you know to visit but none will come. It will be you and the undead day after day and night after night as you lock down everything and question every sound and listen to morons tell you that you need help, (only they are not willing to help). Oh but you call and call and call and no one it there for that dying soul. But by all means judge the person who is there, question their care as you did so much.
I like the fact that Grey's deals with dementia as much as it does but it was kind with Ellis as they did not make it clear she soiled herself periodically, she had complete breaks with her memory, and she did unreasonable acts that Meredith paid other people to take care of. Imagine Meredith dealing with that death on her own.i doubt many of these people would watch, especially those who put patients in homes. The shame factor would make them turn the channel in minutes.
Oh and as for pulling a plug, imagine you get the person extubated and they are talking and fine and an xray shows a need for an operation no one is willing to perform so instantly you have just signed the admittance paperwork and the death paperwork one after the other or you spend hours hunting down a clergy to say prayers and call every relative and friend hey had and try and undue the next extubation until all have had that chance that is meaningless to most because in that one moment the person can no longer talk and is high on pain meds so they do not feel the pain of being alive.(Oops forgot that little tidbit. Prolonged dying can be painful.
At no where in all the deaths I have had some part in has someone stepped up and said let me help. Even the really slow ones when the person is on dialysis for years, as you get to the end people disappear, kinda like the cat, they know death is near and all you see is this person has a life and it is now yours to take care of.
Ooh this took a turn for the gravely serious but I had another wake up call of a person drinking water out of a bowl and asking what a clearly labled bottle and box had in it. Luckily neither answer is poisonous but unluckily that person will keep asking the same question over and over again for as long as the bottle or box is there.
SO for poor Amelia I have no sympathies. Real Death is much harder to deal with than they imagine.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I miss Derek. And stop creating problems between Alex/Jo and Richard/Catherine.
ReplyDeleteAND WHAT THE HELL, APRIL.
Love Maggie and wondering what news she got
ReplyDeleteDon't like Jo and Alex as a couple
ReplyDeleteShe has really grown on me
ReplyDeleteI think April and Jackson and going to end it

April looked like a warrior woman.
ReplyDeleteHe was at least an inturn I was scared he was just a fake in it for the trill.
ReplyDeleteTrue!!
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't I think they are going to be the new Meredith and Derek/end game couple for me.
ReplyDeleteIs the new blonde male intern George 2.0?
ReplyDeleteWhat makes you think that?
I'm wondering how I would have felt if he was the one who loosend the brace.
Strange for the first time I liked Edwards maybe because there is a new intern to dislike.
ReplyDeleteSo, bye Jo. Hello, Alex + Maggie.
ReplyDeletehey, so do i. there are characters i didn't like at first. But in the end, i just like them. :-) I just love the shows!

same here. i feel bad about Amy/Mer. they're both hurt. both is important to Derek. :-(
ReplyDeleteU're right. xtually both of them really hurt in this situation. Mer lost a husband/father of her child. Amy lost a brother/father figure.
ReplyDeleteit's painful for both of them. Also the way they're deal with their pain are totally different.
Are Kevin McKidd and Camilla Luddington leaving? I wouldn't mind Catherine Avery leaving...Idon't like her that much :/
ReplyDeleteI have the feeling that her dad may have passed...something like that
ReplyDeleteI really liked this episode. Omg the feels between Amelia and Meredith. April was always one of my favorite characters as the underdog, she is my hero now. Jo has to leave, I want Maggie and Alex!

Just stop!
ReplyDeleteWhen the writers stop the story line then the conversation will end; in the meanwhile it is fair to point out what may come next and why.So No.
ReplyDeleteAmelia also lost the pregnant lady in episode 16 because they did not get her to a CT. The lady died of a massive brain bleed before Arizona stepped in to deliver the baby. Amelia said there was nothing she could do after suffering a massive brain bleed.
