That first hour was a hot mess and I hate how they rushed through everything with the funeral. Choosing to believe Addison and Cristina showed up, though.
Called Meredith being pregnant and not sure how I feel about naming the baby Ellis but that scene where she returned home was perfect.
I cannot believe Ben and Bailey had that same conversation over and over again.
And thank you for letting me get emotionally invested in Anne and JJ only to kill one of them off, Shonda. I THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING TO FALL IN LOVE AND BE HAPPY.
Caterina knocked it out of the park during the scene where Amelia finally broke.
So Meredith knows how Ellis felt and I liked that parallel and then she names her baby Ellis. Again I liked the parallel. But it was too random. And long. The funeral was like 1 min. No yang. Addy. Naomi. Owen and April go to a war. Really? Poor Jackson. What a weird year. I'm sad Derek died. And the show will lack without him. This episode was too long but solid. I cried. And love the use of the song that started it all. Good symbolic ep. RIP Derek.
Wow wow wow, I mean this episode was brilliant. I know a lot of people are still mad about Derek's death but GA is the one show I trust to overcome the loss of their lead actor. Strongest show on TV IMO. Ellen Pompeo and Caterina Scorsone brought their A game tonight. Can't believe I stayed up till 4AM. That episode was great, plus huge fan of all the flashbacks this season. Lots of FEELINGS all episode long
Alex said that Christina was at the funeral, watch the episode again. They even have someone in the shot with black hair (just the back of her head thought)
Funny just read opinions on another board where the consensus was that it was a terrible tribute to Derek. Have to say I agreed. He was buried and everyone seemed to move on within the space of 15 mins. They had the choice of Meredith having a girl or boy. Derek was more important to Meredith than Elis ever was. Why go with paying tribute to a mother like her and not the man who was the love of her life and gave her a normal not dark and twisty life? I guess we get the point he's dead time to move on.
Beautiful episode. I thought last weeks episode was horrible but this one was one of my favourites, I found it oddly relaxing too. Loved Alex & Meredith! It was a really nice 2 hours for me :)
I stopped watching Greys a couple episodes ago, I didn't even watched last week episode but I needed to watch this to say a proper good bye. This episode really felt like a series finale, Meredith life made a full circle to end in tragedy again but she will survive because Derek changed her and didn't leave her alone. I'm not interested the epilogue. All eps from now on are just a epilogue. New dramas will arrive and new complications but it really feels like the Greys that we followed for over a decade is over. The carrousel will continue spinning but this is the perfect end for those fans to jump off and walk away.
Was a ok episode, I did like seeing the comparison of Ellis and Mers journey as mums/Zola and Mers journey as kids. Loved the 2nd episode more. Didn't love the what seemed to be rushed time jumps. Loved Amelia and Owens scene at merediths and Derek's home. And loved seeing the flashbacks of mer/der, but made it even more heartbreaking. I understand why mer named the baby Ellis, but I was hoping for a boy and maybe calling him Derek. The scene where the callie and Derek leg worked was great, to see his work come to a completion with all their hard work paying off.
Yeah it had a very weird dreamy vibe to it as a whole episode. I honestly questioned if any of it actually happened it felt like it was some kind of badly done tribute to Derek tossed in with some crazy plots and flash forwards. And I agree Elis was not a great mother or a great part of Meredith's life at all. Why name her child after the woman who mistreated her and scarred her for life. Why not focus on the Derek tribute instead?
Even though I know everything that happened on this episode was real and just time jumps it felt like the finale episode of the show "Roseanne" when Roseanne reveals the last season was all a dream she had written up and none of it happened. It was just very jumbled of an episode for me and rushed. I feel like Shondra was like how can I shut the fans up about Derek and show how miserable Meredith's life is ? I know flash backs to her crappy childhood and flash forwards to her current life where she is sad without Derek and a single mother trying to get by. How happy.
What kind of hot mess was that?! If they had made it the season finale I could maybe overlook it and go okay everyone got and ending for the most part and it had a conclusion feel to it. But the show isn't over so where the hell are they going now. It was to trippy, depressing and a crappy send off to Patrick Dempsy. We didn't even get to barely see everyone's reactions to his death. It was just a quick scene of Meredith at the hospital then bam funeral scene a few minutes later and that's it. I was hoping for more of an emotional impact at least.
The whole baby thing was predictable but I didn't expect them to rush it like that. I thought we'll find out at the end of the ep.
I loved the Meredith's and Amelia's parts though - especially when Mer wears his scrubcap and Amelia breaks down at the house. Those were truly heartbreaking. The parallels between Mer and Ellis, wow. And all those flashbacks. :(
Hated the whole Bailey/Ben storyline. WTF was that about?!
I will watch this weekend, but from what I've read minimizing funerals and mourning plus flash forward is a brilliant way to go under the circumstances. Seriously if the shoe has any chance to reboot it couldn't be with Meredith in mourning- a year has passed, she had his kid and now she can move forward. Plus they saved $10MM for next season. That gives them a lot of options. Just enough with killing characters,Shonda.
Amelia was my favorite thing of this episode. Really well done. Just want to add I liked Japril. But the repeat of Ben and Bailey was dragging on and on.
You lost a year in a day and next show the girls will be done with their third year Residency while the board has spent a year absent three members and just guessing that will not work. I could play with this episode but why bother. They lost me with the 11 month pregnancy
Because Bailey is named after Derek. His full name is Derek Bailey Sherphad it's stated in 10x01 when Bailey was holding him. I guess they couldn't have Derek 1 and Derek 2
So I hate that the funeral was barely 30 seconds long and neither Cristina nor Addison are any of Derek's sister and his mother showed up. And there was a some unnecessary stuff like Bailey and Ben arguing about pulling the plug on him for like a year?!?! But other than that it was a pretty good episode. Meredith being pregnant was kinda predictable. The time jumping was nice and necessary I think, otherwise we'd have to see a whole season of what they basically summed up in one episode.
It was nice seeing how different a clear contrast between Meredith and Ellis. And they really needed those flashbacks because from what I read, they shot this whole episode in two weeks.
Anyone else think that Zola aged too much for a year worth of time jump, when I saw the promo photos for the episode, it felt like she aged three years. Bailey also looked like he was at least 4 or 5 years old. On the other hand, Sophia didn't age at all and is being played by the same twins.
Caterina was great in this episode. I didn't cry the whole episode until the scene where Amelia breaks down, where I had tears in my eyes.
It was nice to see Catherine finally openly her heart and soul to Richard. He deserves that.
I wonder if something will actually happen between Callie and Dan (the cop) or he was just there for a tribute to Derek and his sensors.
Also wondering if the April and Jackson storyline from this episode will continue to on.
Also anyone finds it weird that Alex said to Mer that he is going to marry Jo and he basically proposed to her at April and whatshisface's (the paramedic's) wedding and still hasn't proposed to her after that. Like what's he waiting for. Also, am I wrong in feeling that there was a little vibe going on between Maggie and Alex and that;s the reason the writers or not going forward with Jolex? I hope they don't break them up just to have him hook up with Maggie. I just can't stand more drama.
Anyways, that's all I have to say, unless I am forgetting something
Meh. I don't get what the writers were going for throwing in all those side stories other than, I guess, "life goes on." And the flash-forward was probably necessary, but I wish we got more from Meredith, like actual conversations with her and Alex. The parallels to Ellis were good, but what was Meredith thinking.. was she contemplating suicide, giving up the baby? There were SO MANY potentially emotional and awesome stories that could have followed Meredith directly after Derek died and all those months in-between.
Consequently, much of this episode felt like fluff. Owen and April shipping off was so random, it would have made for a good storyline over several episodes, but one? Not so much. Bailey and Ben basically had the same conversation 8 times. Amelia annoys me to no end, her line-delivery, her character, just everything.. whatever. Jo is bearable but it's clear her and Alex won't (and shouldn't) last. They're just not exciting together. I like what they seem to be hinting at with him and Maggie, but I wish they'd maybe shoe-horn in some hints about Jo and Alex not working rather than just not showing them.
I like Callie and the cop. I want to see something new and exciting for her, I hope that they really don't go back to Callie and Arizona together, at least for the foreseeable future.
Apparently Cristina was there. They showed someone with curly hair (like Cristina's) holding Mer's hand during the funeral. Still not enough for me though, I wanted to see Sandra.
I loved this, 100%, one of my favorite episodes of the series. I still wish they hadn't killed off Derek and I subscribe all concerns but accepting it did happen, I don't see a better follow up than this. They did what I hoped with the funeral scenes which was to skip them for the most part instead of coming up with ridiculous excuses for Christina, Addision and the others not being there. I really loved Meredit's journey, it was very emotional and felt very real to me. And Caterina was absolutely incredible with Amelia; when she broke down, she broke me down too, it was horrible. I love Amelia. I also liked all the side stories (except Bailey's, which was boring after the first scene), in the sense that they showed us that life does move on (when the first burned patient died, the other one ust took over... it never stops spinning). Other than liking that message, I also liked the interpretation that Meredith will be able to survive and handle this because Derek impacted her too much for her to fall back to the dark and because she just isn't the same. He left something in her, not only the kids, but in her. That was a very nice message to convey.
While I wanted to see her, I can somehow understand that the logistics couldn't be managed. Kate Walsh was also 10000% needed there for instance. So taking into account the limitations, I prefer the way they went about it.
I think it was meant to parallel the love between Richard and Ellis and Meridith and Derrick now realizing what her mother went through and going thru the same thing now in a way (but Weber was dead he just left Ellis)
I think it was permanent but thats okay because I think they were a couple of years behind anyway because season 1 and 2 were in the same year if im not mistaken.
They used the same formula for the first hour as they did with George's dead. They showed how they moved on from everything. Im not fond of that i hate it actually but i see what she tries to do. It was a amazing second hour. From beggining to end. This couple of episode are by far the ebst in the season. Every stor was well done. Anne and J.J's, Amelia's breakdown, Bailey and Ben's extraordinarie measures, April and Jackson, Catherine and Richard.... Everything was well done. I creid a little in teh final minutes. Tell me again why wasnt this the season finale? Hell it even felt like a series finale for me.
1. It was a weird episode which is not really something you wanna say about a tribute. It didn't really feel like a tribute at all, most of the stuff wasn't even related to his death. Hostile uterus, cannot conceive in spite of fertility treatments, and then Bam! She's pregnant just like that?! That was severely contrived, to say the least! Not very original, but this one year jump gave them the opportunity to show that Maggie is now one of them. My favorite moment was the two second interaction between Mer and Bailey in the elevator.

WoW !!!!

And aw, Richard and Catherine.
Didn't care for first hour
ReplyDeleteBut the second was amazing
I've been patiently waiting for this poll to see how everyone liked it. I didn't watch it. I knew I'd be irritated and heartbroken.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't have been 2 hours. One hour would've been more solid.
ReplyDeleteLoved Alex and Maggie scenes and Meridith scenes and merder baby being born and the kids being older 😭😭😭😭😭

The first hour was terrible but the second was very good.
ReplyDeleteLove Catherine finally professing her love for Webber. About time but i still think he could do better,ha!
Glad April didn't get hurt and came back home.
I wish i liked Amelia but i just don't like her,never did..
And finally Bailey & Ben finally get some scenes together. Too bad it had to happen at the end of the season. Maybe next season
Alex said that Christina was at the funeral, watch the episode again. They even have someone in the shot with black hair (just the back of her head thought)
ReplyDeleteSeriously people it doesn't deserve all these awful votes. Maybe the 1st but the 2nd was briliiant
ReplyDeleteHow much time passes in this episode?
ReplyDeleteThey will keep voting awful Cuz there still mad. I hated the first he but loved the second

ReplyDeleteI thought it was great and really sad but is the time jump permanent or just for that episode
ReplyDeleteIt's because there was a huge time jump throughout so it just seemed like they moved on quickly because of that.
ReplyDeleteDaekUFO there was a mistresses promo DURInG greys tonight. You should post it!
ReplyDeletehow much of a time jump was there
ReplyDeleteA year i believe? Not 100% sure on that. Somewhere between 10-12 months
ReplyDeleteThe show can survive without him. It has survived all season with him barely here.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful episode. I thought last weeks episode was horrible but this one was one of my favourites, I found it oddly relaxing too. Loved Alex & Meredith! It was a really nice 2 hours for me :)

Actually, Alex said that she [Cristina] hasn't "heard" from Mer since the funeral, so for all we know they just talked on the phone or Skyped.

The clear indication was that she was there, I believe Sandra Oh, Tyne Daly and Kate Walsh's absence is the only reason they skipped over the funeral.

ReplyDeleteThe whispers, secrets and lies, OUAT. That's all I can remember. I don't remember seeing revenge.
ReplyDeleteHi everybody. I have a question. Who was the old woman appearing in flash backs? was she the future Meredith with alzheimer?
ReplyDeleteI think it was meant to parallel the love between Richard and Ellis and Meridith and Derrick now realizing what her mother went through and going thru the same thing now in a way (but Weber was dead he just left Ellis)
ReplyDeleteI think it was permanent but thats okay because I think they were a couple of years behind anyway because season 1 and 2 were in the same year if im not mistaken.
ReplyDeleteWell we saw Easter-Valentines day at least so crazy.
ReplyDeleteYeah I wanted a junior. They really want us to forget Derek.
ReplyDeleteLmao Ur right they did make that pregnancy too long! I just thought of that
ReplyDeleteIt did feel like a series finale!!!!
ReplyDeleteEllis. Mer's mother.
ReplyDeleteMeredith leaves before Easter, most likely Early April and returns after Valentines day Mid February no wonder she was so huge.
ReplyDeleteThey do tha. I remember George's being just one scene and then cut it where they were all sitting tehre laughing their asses off.
ReplyDeleteThey used the same formula for the first hour as they did with George's dead. They showed how they moved on from everything. Im not fond of that i hate it actually but i see what she tries to do.
