This episode was about who the true king is: Sansa and littlefinger talking about: Lyanna Stark - the woman who caused the war Danaerys and Ser Barristan talking about: Rhaegar Targaryen - The heir who never would have kidnapped a woman against her will Lady Melisandre talking about: Jon - the child who knows nothing
Great episode - exhilirating action scenes with Jaime and Bronn in Dorne and the Harpy sons. Melisandre's tits. Heartfelt scenes with Stannis talking to his daughter. A little bit of everything.
Oh yeah I know, but I for one will immediately stop watching the second they start spoiling the books. I just think it is a very bad way of promoting both the show and the written saga. Viewers/readers will have to choose whether to wait or not, and many people will be pissed, because they'd rather wait, but will live in constant fear of being spoiled by their friends... overall, just terrible for business.
Never read the books myself so it doesn't bother me at all, if only because of the length of tine in releases stopped me from reading the books yet. I could honestly say they might finish the series in 3 years before another release.
I loved all the exposition callbacks to the past with mentions of Rhaeger playing his harp in the streets and the tourney at Harrenhall with The Mad King Aerys, Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark,.. Even Littlefinger's look to Sansa at her mention of Rhaegar's alleged kidnapping and raping of Lyanna. Oh Sansa Stark, you know nothing!
Speaking of knowing nothing.... Jon Snow once again being told he knows nothing by a woman kissed by fire. Although this particular redhead has done even more with fire than kiss it XD
They are laying the groundwork nicely for future plot points (or plot twists)!
I enjoyed seeing Ser Barristan Selmy show off his sword skill!! Afterall he is (maybe was) one of the best swordsman on Westeros or Essos. If he is dead as appearances suggest, he will be missed! His death would denote even more drastic changes to Dany's arc in the upcoming episodes!
Speaking of swordsmanship... Bronn was awesome, but poor Jaime! At least his gold prosthetic comes in *ahem* handy once in a while. I would think he could also use it as a bludgeon in combat if he wanted..
Maybe he could bludgeon Cersei with it? XD She is just spiraling out of control and I for one will rejoice when her plans backfire on her!
I liked the episode, but I will admit that the first 4 episodes this year feel like tablesetters for the rest of the season. I don't mind that honestly since there is a lot to recap and explore with so many characters in transition moving to new regions. I've enjoyed the slow burn and flow of the beginning of this season a great deal more than I expected.
I think by season's end it's quite possible that a number of book spoilers will have come out, but the show may be different enough to not spoil things in the books too much for you... Maybe. Here's hoping!
This this episode 99% confirmed the grand old fan theory that R + L = J, I mean most book readers believed it but they would not have included two scenes mentioning Rhaegar if they weren't going there in the future. Which is great, I mean if that hadn't been true I think fans might have rioted!
Anyway I loved this episode, the fighting at the end was great, we had the introduction of the Sand Snakes, Jaime and Bronn being wonderful, Stannis showing he has a heart, just a lot of great stuff.
I found it creepy that Melisandre managed to capture Ygritte's words verbatim. She knew somehow exactly what that would do to Jon.
I suppose I'll never get over the idea that certain scenes from the books may not play out.... Then again, they might just happen to a different character.
-Well looks like it IS L + R = J, although given Misandre's interest, maybe it could also hint at Baratheon bloodline, especially if we are to take Bannister's sugar coated story about R for truth, although I think he lied to keep Dany at peace and to protect the secret same as whatt I thought in the books
- Again, as much as Melesandre can be irritating, looks like the writers of the show threw us a bone in telling us, she's not completely dishonest and "knows something" about somethings...:p (Thank the Gods Jon rejected her!!!)
RIP- Bannister Selmy and Greyworm! Well this is different than we know, but then again, we don't know what ends they might have met, so it could be the same difference, but I think this makes Dany's upcoming story more acceptable and I like the contrast with The Sparrows turning militant at the same time the Sons of the Harpy attack Marreen!
Interesting to see that it was Sansa who was used as a way to give us that history some of us have been waiting for...It makes me more curious about the S = LSH theory and a juxtaposition to The Mad King and RT...maybe even deeper karma-like revenge, than how the books used LSH???
- Didn't really enjoy Jorah and Tyrion as I had hoped. Kind of hope Jorah gets more conversational! LOL!
-It's hard not to root for Stannis, so YAY Stannis!! -Especially because his love for Shireen was so enduring, but this def makes me think he will die when he gets to Winterfell...
Cersei, I care for you, but lady, you really have it coming now...
Petyr, I want to like you, but I don't. if Sansa doesn't make it out as Sansa, I hope you burn or freeze to death...
Even though they keep saying that they will spoil the books, I'm not sure if they "exactly" will?! Like things that happened in this episode didn't happen that way in the book, as characters that were still alive at the end of ADWD are dead now...so unless they meet rather similar deaths later in the next two books, we could have an all paths lead here situation, where maybe it will still be a little different in terms of HOW the remaining characters will get to that place...
I don't really trust what any of the producers say to us at this point...
That's precisely the point: it might or it might not. And worse even, we will never know for sure, because there are things they change and things they don't. That is the reason why I'm inclined to stop watching if Martin doesn't release another book in 2016.
The Bronn/Jaimie dynamic is really working for me.
Shocked they killed off Selmy... But his sacrifice was worth it for the wake up call it will give to Danny. Seriously any little nudge from her high horse makes me happy.
That scene with Shireen, proving one more time Stannis is a great man and would make a great king. Seriously, if he ditches Melisandre he's the man for the job.
It was so funny to see Tommen so out of his league and stuck between his mother and his wife... Poor kid...
Speaking off: Cersei, is just digging her own grave. I didn't care in the books, but I love her so much in the show, and I feel and understand her so much, it pains me to see this mess being set up.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
This episode was about who the true king is:
ReplyDeleteSansa and littlefinger talking about: Lyanna Stark - the woman who caused the war
Danaerys and Ser Barristan talking about: Rhaegar Targaryen - The heir who never would have kidnapped a woman against her will
Lady Melisandre talking about: Jon - the child who knows nothing
Very good episode - next week looks to continue to be riveting
ReplyDeleteThat was the best episode of the season so far. Intense and thrilling. Also, this season is probably the first time I like Jon and Stannis.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode - exhilirating action scenes with Jaime and Bronn in Dorne and the Harpy sons. Melisandre's tits. Heartfelt scenes with Stannis talking to his daughter. A little bit of everything.
ReplyDeleteJust a quick comment: if they keep this up (the pace, I mean), they'll surpass Martin before the season ends. No kidding.
ReplyDeleteThey are supposed to been given all the crucial info and thending from Martin, so it seems like they can.

ReplyDeleteVery good episode. Too bad that Sir Barristan had to die, but he went out FIGHTING
ReplyDeleteNever read the books myself so it doesn't bother me at all, if only because of the length of tine in releases stopped me from reading the books yet. I could honestly say they might finish the series in 3 years before another release.
ReplyDeleteWell Jon has at least Stark blood so I well at least give her that one.
ReplyDeleteSolid episode, but not awesome.

ReplyDeleteSounds about right.

Not now...
ReplyDeleteThere was also this scene when Melisandre found out that Jon has even "better blood" than Stannis.
ReplyDeleteI found it creepy that Melisandre managed to capture Ygritte's words verbatim. She knew somehow exactly what that would do to Jon.

Both Depressing and Awesome!
