  1. Stannis' scene with his daughter was sweet and really showed why although Stannis is not charismatic as others he really would make a good king.

  2. I thought it was a terrific scene and really showed us a side that we don't get to see from him.

  3. For me the two highlights were exposition scenes about Rhaegar Targaryen.
    - Selmy telling Danny about Rhaegar enjoyed playing his harp and disliked killing...
    - Baelish telling Sansa how Rhaegar crowned Lyanna Queen of Love and Beauty at Harrenhal.
That backstory is arguably the most important piece of history to the series.

  4. - Stanis/Shireen FTW!
    - Everything Bronn/Jamie
    - Grey Worm and Barristan VS Sons of the Harpy

  5. They were both too exposition-y for my taste but I agree that the backstory was necessary so I get it. Can't call either them of the "favourites" though, because they were more mandatory rather than good scenes.

  6. Stannis would be an AMAZING King if he ditched Melissandre and got himself an adviser with a more gentle touch. He's stern but fair and an excellent strategist. And if he was juuuuuust a weeee bit less stubborn about some things stuff would be so much better...

  7. Lots of great scenes, making it my favourite ep of the season. I loved the Stannis/Shireen scene, that was just so lovely. And well all the Bronn/Jaime scenes.

  8. What can I say about that Stannis scene that hasn't been said already. Each episode the rightful heir to the throne becomes more and more likeable, and him expressing his pride to Shireen officially made him my favorite character on this show.

  9. Jon says he still love Ygritte. ❤️

  10. The chat with the High Sparrow - Cersei is desperately trying to stay on top and she'd losing the assets she used to employ. Now she's turning to something that has the potential to get out of control in the zelous Faith Militant. Some ugliness unfolded there.

  11. It was so hard to choose! Lots of great funny scenes plus drama and touching!

  12. Those were both on my long list! Thanks for adding them here! Now I want the prequel...

  13. It was a wonderful scene and I loved it but I am not so sure a king manipulated by one fire god obsessed enchantress who torches Stannis' own followers( old scene on the beach) for her crazed offerings is such a good idea. And remember what he let her do to Renley.

  14. Tough call. I was strongly tempted by the Grey Worm/Barristan scene and the Stannis scene, but surprised myself a bit by voting for the Bailish/Sansa one--surprised because I am not much of a Sansa fan. but that was such a well-shot, well-designed, meaty scene that I just had to give it the nod.

  15. Indeed. I find it interesting that the genesis of the rearming of the Faith Militant is rather different than in the book, but I expect it will end up in the same place, more or less. "All sinners are equal in the eyes of the gods" indeed!

  16. They were, but I enjoy exposition, often times more than action scenes! XD

In this case I liked them for more than just their connection to the past though.
    - I liked the Dany scene because it was one of the few times a Targaryen was mentioned in a positive light. Dany actually smiled hearing about Rhaegar. It was one of the few times I felt Emilia's acting and did not think she was a wooden cut out.
    - I liked the Sansa and Baelish scene for the subtext. Sansa seeking solace in a very Stark-like place of the crypts and Littlefinger smirking at Sansa repeating that old Northern rhetoric that Rhaegar kidnapped and raped Lyanna.

  17. Pretty much every season GOT pairs up characters which bring much comic joy, I just love them so much!

  18. How can Stannis, slave to Melissandre's machinations, be remotely likable. His daughter is the likable element in this game. And Davros.

  19. Well she's a snake... so I'm actually quite happy he turned her down...

  20. I personally find exposition scenes are hard to pull off in order to make them good. As I said I know you need them, so of course they'll be there. But it's very difficult to incorporate them in organically and have them not look so blatantly as exposition.

And as nice as those scenes were for the reasons you mentioned, it was painfully obvious they were inserted into the episode to give information the audience didn't have but needed. It's very hard for me to not hold them accountable for that.

  21. great episode keeps getting better this show.

  22. That's the thing: under the machinations of Melisandre, he is sadly misled. But he is honourable and he treats his daughter unlike how other men would treat a deformed daughter in that world, with love and respect.
