As the broadcast networks finalize pilot pickup decisions, a handful of this year’s freshman series are still awaiting the yea or nay for a season two.
ABC’s “Agent Carter” and NBC’s “The Mysteries of Laura” are said to be looking better for renewals but are not slam dunks. CBS’ “Battle Creek” may be on the rebound toward a second season order. “Cristela,” on the other hand, is likely heading for the exit at ABC. Same is true for “Marry Me” at NBC.
Among other returning series still on the bubble, the decision at Fox on “The Mindy Project” is going down to the wire. The end of the road is also said to be coming at Fox for “The Following.”
ABC’s “Last Man Standing” is living up to its name and said to be getting a nod for season five. The betting is that CBS’ “CSI” will get a farewell 16th season order, if perhaps shorter than a full 22 episodes. Meanwhile, the latest addition to the franchise, “CSI: Cyber,” is a lock to renew.
As for the latest pilot pickup chatter, here’s a rundown:
ABC
ABC is expected to make most of its series pickup calls on Friday. Drama-wise, “Runner” remains a heavy favorite, as is the Shondaland-produced “The Catch.” Biblical epic “Of Kings and Prophets” has come on strong. And then there are the Marvel entries: a spinoff of “Agents of SHIELD” and a top-secret project from “American Crime” creator John Ridley. Can’t count anything with “Marvel” in the title out as it is a powerful driver of international and digital sales.

Battke creek renewal would be the shocker of the century
ReplyDeletecome on Agent Carter you can do it!!
ReplyDeleteBATB two season renewal may be close to that.
ReplyDeleteI'd love Agent Carter to come back!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that Agent Carter and TMoL are having a better chance. They also say CSI will get a final season and Cyber will be renewed. UGH! Also if Battle Creek somehow gets renewed, the world might end.
ReplyDeleteAmazing news about Fuentes Women
ReplyDeleteDisappointed that there is nothing about Cheerleader Squad
Also disappnted with ABC ... Boom, Kingmakers and The Advocate are being ignored
If it happened, the world would probably come to an end.
ReplyDeleteBattle Creek” may be on the rebound toward a second season order and “CSI: Cyber,” is a lock to renew.
ReplyDeleteThat has to be a joke. Is Variety high right now?
it better be. I don't believe any of this info.
ReplyDeleteLol Battle Creek renewed? April fools was last month Variety.
ReplyDeleteHow the hell is Cyber a lock?
ReplyDeleteI think they might have forgotten.
ReplyDeleteIt should be cancelled.
ReplyDeleteOmabin, I don't know if you had a chance to read the article, but it says that it's possible that NBC will pass on Game of Silence and Sony may shop it to cable nets.
ReplyDeletePersonally I really hope that, that happens because GOS sounds like an amazingly gritty drama that deserves a chance.
Battle Creek a possibility and Cyber a lock..............?
ReplyDeleteThey on crack or something?
The article is complete nonsense.
ReplyDeleteThis looks completely unbelievable but i hope they're right about Agent Carter!
ReplyDeleteIt is. I'm LMAO.
ReplyDeleteI don't see Game of Slience having a chance on NBC its way too dark,
ReplyDeleteFX seems as a good fit
This article is either BS or CBS is on crack
ReplyDeleteC'mon. tell me that Cheerleader's death Squad has a chance. It's teh only interesting new show i can see happening in the CW.
ReplyDeleteGlas that Curse of the Fuentes Women is still in play hope NBC picks it up and suceed.
No word on Kingmakers D: no good news there.
I mean,i stopped taking it seriously when they said Battle Creek is almost a sure renewal.Say what now?
ReplyDeleteAhah, my reaction as well
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see Chris Wood in Cordon!
ReplyDeleteI see we have the same taste :)
ReplyDeleteI think it is a bunch of lies. I dare anyone to justify the battle creek renewal, not even sony could make that happen
ReplyDeleteYes i saw it! That sucks so, so much. I really hope some cable net picks it up. I was looking forward to it so much!!
ReplyDeleteI hope it doesn't turn out like iZombie did for me, a cast I love but the show itself I can't stand :/
ReplyDeleteCyber and Battle Creek ??? WTF ! If they want to keep CSI just renew CSI Vegas for a full and final season but what the point to keep Cyber which is low and destroyed by the critics ?!
ReplyDeleteNo, i think this would be way worse. I gave batb odds of higher than 40% last year. I have given battle creek 0% this year!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it may have a chance to get away from NBC and Greenblatt though.
ReplyDeleteGOS could be next season's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, in that it's a gem that NBC passed on that is getting a chance on a better suited platform/network.
Cyber is more possible, it is a bubble show at least. Battle creek i cannot imagine
ReplyDeleteI dropped iZombie after the pilot, hated it.
ReplyDeleteSame, I was especially annoyed since I love The Messengers and it got treated so badly.
ReplyDeleteBattle Creek does horrible in ratings... I can't believe they'd like it for a second season...
ReplyDeleteCDS and teh one of teh guy that see dead people are the only ones that interest me on the CW.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of BS in my times, but this is just too much.
ReplyDeleteIt is probably a mistake, i really cant believe it
ReplyDeleteIt's just bull. No way in hell it gets renewed.
ReplyDeleteI also like The messengers but it will get axed,so at this point i'm just watching it for fun!
ReplyDeleteSadly, Dead People seems to have no buzz at all so it is probably dead. I really like the cast
ReplyDelete100% agreed.
ReplyDeleteNothing is unbelievable from CBS in those days lol
ReplyDeleteapparently it sold well for CBS international
ReplyDeleteHope they are right about Agent Carter. I want it back!
ReplyDeleteIt also says Cristela and Marry Me are likely heading for the exits. Those are sure cancellations. Just more proof that the article is BS.
ReplyDeleteI think that is the reason. Even CSI, it's still a huge amount of money worldwide !
ReplyDeleteArgh, they're doing my head in.
ReplyDelete"ABC’s “Agent Carter” and NBC’s “The Mysteries of Laura” are said to be looking better for renewals but are not slam dunks." - #plsrewnewagentcarter this is the only show where i seriously have no idea if it will be renewed or cancelled? I'd love to see Hayley Atwell, Lyndsy Fonseca and James D'Arcy on my screen again :')
ReplyDeleteSo much crap in 1 article.
ReplyDeleteLOL AT BATTLE CREEK BEING CONSIDERED FOR RENEWAL.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, Fox also is renewing Weird Loners and resurrecting Glee; NBC is planning a second season for A to Z and also a two-year renewal for American Odyssey.
And that's what happens when you smoke weed close to the Variety offices' windows when they are opened.
I shall keep my finger crossed for Agent Carter! It's the sole superhero themed show I like! Kick ass female leads FTW.
ReplyDeleteBattle creek shouldn't even get a summer renewal, it does that badly
ReplyDeleteIt has pathetic ratings. It's not coming back.
ReplyDeletethough Cyber could be a summer renewal...
ReplyDelete#RenewMysteriesofLaura
ReplyDeleteBattle Creek is SO dead and have chance, this is MADNESS
ReplyDeleteI wish this was the case. :(
ReplyDeleteBattle Creek will definitely be cancelled in this universe, make that every universe.
ReplyDelete#SaveConstantine
ReplyDelete#RenewMulaney
ReplyDeleteNo no no!!! I feared for The Following! Please don't!
ReplyDeleteYes, Battle Creek will get a shortened 0-episode second season lol.
ReplyDeleteIt's dead,i'm afraid. No one accidentally announces it as series finale.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a cancellation.
ReplyDeleteI need kingmakers, cheerleader death squad and quantico to get picked up.
ReplyDeleteIf everyone is begging, i will beg as well. Save Agent Carter!!!
ReplyDeleteUSA or TNT are probably more realistic than FX.
ReplyDeleteIt is the show i am most nervous about!
ReplyDeleteLol
ReplyDeleteI am very sad with that one as well but I don't have many hopes. I don't think it is 100% dead yet (a renewal wouldn't shock me) but I expect a cancellation. Very sadly!
ReplyDelete#SaveAgentCarter !!!
ReplyDeleteI want Agent Carter back too! I am here for the begging!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Mulaney, which has been renewed and will have one hour episodes airing Wednesdays at 8. Empire was cancelled after the early renewal since FOX realized there was no room for it on the schedule!
ReplyDeleteThis! I don't give a damn about Laura, but I would so want Agent Carter back!
ReplyDeleteIn my country, Portugal, the amount of promotion that Cyber got was somehow unprecedented. I don't remember an american tv show getting promotion like that. There were outdoors literally everywhere, in multiple cities. It was crazy.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity though, I quite like it. But I understand the cw. The show has very limited appeal and is a horrible concept to market .I don't think it would have survived even if it launched on a decent day.
ReplyDeleteI am with you, crossing my fingers for Agent Carter until the end!
ReplyDeleteSomeone save Agent Carter!
ReplyDeleteYes, that would be awesome. I am really interested in the show. David is a big big draw for me, but even aside from that, everything I've read about it sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I will binge watch Kimmy Schmidt this summer ;) Did you like it?
Wow, that's surprising! I thought they would pull a CBS and move it to Saturdays! 6.0 is the new 0.9.
ReplyDeleteJust read the review of the script at season zero for Game of Silence. If it goes to cable they can ditch the likely procedural element and they will most likely have to redo the music score (network shows often use way too much music to try to tell you how to FEEL in every single scene).
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to say that now but i do get your point.
ReplyDeleteLoved Kimmy Schmidt! I highly recommend it!
ReplyDeleteThe show could really become even more epic and amazing on cable or Netflix.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the type of show that could easily be an Emmy contender on the right network, actually.
Ahah
ReplyDeleteI hear Commissioner Loeb is a Battle Creek fan, he has dirt on everyone ;)
ReplyDeleteCan anyone seriously justify a Mysteries of Laura renewal? The numbers are horrible, why would NBC give it a slot in the fall? It won't benefit any show airing after it. Fridays won't work will it? That's Dateline and Grimm day.
ReplyDeleteLast Man Standing has probably been renewed. Deadline reports that a new show-runner has just been appointed and it would be really weird if they bothered to do it just to cancel it a day later.
ReplyDeleteAhah good one
ReplyDeletePlz tell me that Battle Creek news is a joke... Is CBS trying to kill itself?? Considering to renew a show with ratings of 0.7???
ReplyDeleteThat surprises me—guess we'll find out for sure soon. Looks like prospects just got better for Delores & Jermaine and/or Dr Ken
ReplyDeleteThe show has ratings for renewal and it will be a good syndication performer so 20th would have to be damn greedy to ask for a licensee fee that ABC wouldn't agree on. Which was always a possibility, but one less likely I would say.
ReplyDeleteBut we should find out soon, although at this point I would be surprised. It's weird to replace a showrunner if the show is not moving forward.
By the way, it is possible that Chevy Chase steals the spot of the second multicam.
ReplyDeleteSure they could. Game of Silence is too gritty for NBC so Sony is going to shop it around to replace Helix. (The cable property that was just cancelled). They feel confident about their "package" with The Player (which obviously includes The Night Shift and maybe their comedy, Take it From us) as hinted heavily in the article. This gives them free time to figure out Battle Creek.
ReplyDeleteEven after what happened to the The Neighbors?
ReplyDeleteI think it is possible, yes. And you know how I feel about the Chevy show, I wouldn't want it anywhere on the schedule, but if it has to be somewhere, I think here it makes the least damage.
ReplyDeleteC'mon, Tales From the Darkside. That's what I want from The CW (and a second season of The Messengers but that's asking for too much I guess), CBS is not renewing Battle Creek with a 0.7 demo rating. And I hope NBC passes on most of its pilots and opts for a season 2 of Constantine.
ReplyDeleteI feel like NBC would be the one making a Chevy Chase show...funny how that works
ReplyDeleteIn my humble and 100% biased opinion, no network should be making a Chevy Chase show.
ReplyDeleteAnd live from New York, it's...well, it's ABC execs looking to make the wrong decision
ReplyDeleteSorry, had to work the signature phrase in there somewhere lol
Maybe next fall we all eat crow when Chevy becomes a shocking hit LOL. I seriously can't imagine!
ReplyDeleteAlbeit not hits, Jane the Virgin and Laura both received way more episodes than I thougt they would. This cominf from the guy who predicted The Voice would be DOA while Utopia and Mulaney would be big hits. I'm not even kidding.
ReplyDeleteTNT wants to go darker/edgier and GOS would fit their new direction. USA also is going serialized and it could use a drama to build their new direction around apart from Suits (though Mr Robot could be that show).
ReplyDeleteI'd rather see GOS go to AMC or FX, rather than basic cable nets like USA or TNT.
ReplyDeleteEven Netflix would be a good option
It was cancelled so would be Revived instead of renewed lol
ReplyDeleteUh CBS did that with CSI but released a statement saying it wasn't lol
ReplyDeleteSame here; with Revenge done for good, Agent Carter is the only show I watch left on the bubble. Hope it leans to renewal, if not on ABC then somewhere else
ReplyDeleteSeriously Battle Creek? It's getting CW level ratings on CBS gosh!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see that announcement?? Link??
ReplyDelete#SaveRinger ? Lol :(
ReplyDeleteThis was a joke, but seriously, it'd be wrapping up s4 right now, along with Secret Circle :(
Agent Carter is the one I'm clinging onto, please please please.
ReplyDeleteThis is what happened-FOX officially released season finale's pics under the heading Series finale promotional pics.Later when STV contacted them, they replied it was a mistake and it will be season finale after all. So,you know, get ready for the bad news....
ReplyDeleteWell then, I'll believe it's a series finale when FOX officially announces it. Until then, I'll keep my little bit of hope that it can have a season 4. Although, again, I'll repeat myself on what iI said two weeks ago. "I'm not sure how with Joe gone" but we'll see. TBH, there were things I wanted to see in season 4.
ReplyDeleteWhat were you wish list for season 4?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I wanted to see what Joey is up to, along with Claire. I know she went off to start a new life and all that, but iI still wanted some more info on it. And I really would like to see Joey again before the series ended.
ReplyDeleteRyan now being a father, I'd like to see him attempt to handle that. (with the help of Max and Jenny Once he gets help) In season 4. Give him some peace, finally! I feel he won't find out Gwen's pregnant til season 4 anyway.
Mike definitely having some happy ending. Maybe he gets promoted or something. Idk but I love Mike, so he can't die.
It's little things, but I still wanted to see them. I think there's still things to tell and it won't be happening in the next three episodes. I won't get any closure if it ends on a cliffhanger and won't return. I hate that. I really do love this show, 3 seasons are just too short for me.
I get what you're saying. However, given that i had to look up Who Joey & Jenny was in the first place after you mentioned them(Coz i completely forgot about them),i think i won't miss the show as much as you will.
ReplyDeleteIt's the only show I am nervous about. All the others I am either sure that they will get renewed or I don't care if they get another run or not.
ReplyDeletethis franchise is still earning a lot of money worldwide, no real surprise if both Vegas and Cyber would be renewed... My real big surprise would be Battle Creek though...
ReplyDeleteI have more shows on the bubble but this is the one I am most nervous about.
ReplyDeleteAhah, kuddos for being upfront about it (but Mulaney? Seriously? ahah). I have been wrong plenty of times before too though.
ReplyDeleteThis!
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too. Only one of my shows which is on the bubble.
ReplyDeleteSad to hear that :/, I got lucky this season and very few shows got in the bubble. Marry Me which I made peace with early on with its death, Revenge which is ending, and Agent Carter is the only one waiting for a renewal. Hopefully it'll get it
ReplyDeleteI watch a lot of TV so I put myself vulnerable to this. My biggest loss of all, by far, is Revenge. Other huge losses are The Following and About a Boy (it is going down as one of the most underrated comedies of all time to me). Agent Carter and H50 would go here if cancelled.
ReplyDeleteFrom freshmans, I really liked Stalker, Cristela and Selfie. There are other I have lost/ can loose too but I have made peace with it like A to Z, Galavant, Manhattan Love Story. I would like The Night Shift renewed too since it is an inoffensive but enjoyable show, although I wont loose it if cancelled. Oh and The Messengers.
But in short: Revenge, About a Boy, The Following, Agent Carter, H50 (though I believe this one will make it), with Stalker and Cristela being worrhy of an honorable mention.
Same here for the most part (i dont think the following is totally dead but it is more likely to be cancelled than renewed)
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy if it did...i'm enjoying the series. There are enough dark and dreary cop shows on TV; it's nice to have one that doesn't take itself too seriously and really has a great cast that hopefully will have a chance to shine in season 2.
ReplyDeleteMe too for Battle Creek.... CSI;Cyber would be a shock...they really need to step things up in Season 2 is this were true. IT's dreadful right now.
ReplyDeleteHa, wow!
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoy BattleCreek and it bothers me that renewals may be based on the demo rating of 18-49. I feel like this show caters towards an older crowd and it would be a shame if it got cancelled because younger people don't watch it. More viewers watch this show than Agents of Shield. That should be enough to renew it...sigh.
ReplyDeleteCrossing my fingers for Agent Carter!
ReplyDeleteBut a good shocker none the less.... the show has been getting so good with every passing episode.
ReplyDeleteI have never watched it, so I can't comment there.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for Peggy.
ReplyDeleteBattle Creek is such a loooooong shot, I know, but OMG if it gets renewed I'll be so super happy! Don't give me false hope Variety!
Oh it's sooooo good!
ReplyDeleteYou're one of the handful of Battle Creek fans I have seen on SpoilerTV. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's not a great show but I found it to be quite enjoyable. I honestly think it would have worked best as a summer series. Let's see what happens.
I love Battle Creek!
ReplyDeleteI'll be the first to admit that it started out weak, but it's been growing and has gotten continuously better with each passing episode.
ReplyDelete
