Writer Graham Moore, whose first feature, The Imitation Game, earned him an Oscar, is making another debut, as TV series creator. NBC has given a 10-episode, straight-to-series order to a drama from Moore, World War Z director Marc Forster and Endemol Shine Studios. The untitled thriller (fka Patient Zero) was co-developed by Sky, which will serve as the series’ UK network.
Created and written by Moore and to be directed by Forster, the series is described as a candid look at an outbreak that pushes its characters to extremes, revealing the best – and very worst – humanity has to offer. When a woman exhibits mysterious symptoms, she and her loved ones find themselves in the center of an epidemic with global consequences. Meanwhile, across the world, an FBI agent investigates a seemingly unrelated terrorist attack that leads him to the brink of madness.

I don't understand the fascination with wanting to do an outbreak series on television, how long can they really last? Containment seems like it would be a good miniseries but knowing it's supposed to be ongoing puts my interest level at about a zero.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds terrible. Didn't NBC hear that The CW has "Containment"?
ReplyDeleteIsn't The Last Ship the same premise too, basically? Except I didn't finish watching the pilot for that one but I've heard nothing that indicates differently, ha.
ReplyDeleteAnother outbreak series? I mean The Last Ship is fantastic but off the top my head this makes 4 now.

ReplyDeleteStrange way to describe the characters. :P ;) :)
I watched the first few episodes of The Last Ship and then lost interest. There are too many TV shows nowadays with the same or very similar plot lines.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree.
ReplyDeleteLol, fixed :D
ReplyDeleteThere are too many TV shows about outbreaks. Helix, The Last Ship, The Walking Dead, The Strain, Z Nation to name a few.
ReplyDeleteVery true. Television is becoming Very repetative. I am Glad we still have many many shows though that are unique even if the premise is similar to other shows
ReplyDeleteSo the same show that we already have, like 5 of them.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't they go with something original, like Curse of Fuentes Women?
NBC doesn't know what "original" means.
ReplyDeleteI also think it's quite funny that NBC is trying to force two completely different storylines into one show because they think it'll be a "hit".
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be NBC if you didn't have a Mary Sue-type FBI agent!
ReplyDeleteAlso, isn't this the second apocalypse-esque show NBC has already ordered to series? Pretty sure the other's also a co-production with Sky.
NBC has "You, Me and the End of the World" for the mid-season/summer.
ReplyDelete'American Outbreak'. Coming soon to NBC.
ReplyDeleteLOL
Well this sounds familiar...
ReplyDeleteOkay that said, I also think this sounds better than every recent outbreak drama, upcoming and those airing currently. Not including TWD of course.
I like the creative team, but maybe it's just the fact this is still a vague concept in my mind so I don't have much to criticize... Wait and see.
If they focus on the psychological impact of an outbreak, this could be very interesting. I can see why NBC picked it up.
ReplyDeleteHowever, where is NBC going to place all of these series? They have a full schedule and they will at least add another season of I Can Do That if it has any hold at all.
On my schedule prediction scorecard I have:
Little Big Shots Monday at 8 PM in between The Voice cycles
First Dates or I Can Do That Season 2 Tuesdays at 8 PM in between The Voice cycles
Shades Of Blue Wednesdays at 8 PM replacing The Mysteries Of Laura
Game Of Silence Thursdays at 10 PM replacing The Player
Emerald City or You Me and The End Of The World Thursdays at 8 PM replacing Heroes: Reborn Thursdays at 8 PM
After that, it gets interesting. Chicago Med could go Mondays at 10 PM or Tuesdays at 9 PM, Hot & Bothered/Coach will have to go somewhere (basically in Monday/Tuesday timeslot they didn't put Chicago Med), Celebrity Apprentice probably goes back to Sundays with The Reaper/Dolly Parton movies/specials. The Biggest Loser likely pushed as a summer tentpole (perhaps Wednesdays since American Ninja Warrior is holding down Mondays/America's Got Talent Tuesdays.)
Why is everyone so fascinated with Epidemic & virus crap?NBC-Nothing original in their life.No surprise here!
ReplyDeleteIf it makes it on the fall/midseason schedule, then Chicago Outbreak. If it makes it on the summer schedule, then America's Got Outbreak.
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting
ReplyDeleteAt least it's not a another ol' cop show.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I love outbreak movies/books, so sign me up for any epidemic tv show.
ReplyDeleteWhat is it? A zombie outbreak or vampire outbreak?
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes. I love survival theme movies, books, and shows. Anything about a pandemic has my attention!! I can't wait to see what this is about!
ReplyDeleteCordon NBC version then?
ReplyDeleteCould be quite interesting.I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteIt is the recent fad I guess, so I get it, but "meh" is my response to the idea...
