Another major character from Heroes is returning for NBC’s revivial.
EW has exclusively learned that Greg Grunberg—who played the telepathic detective Matt Parkman throughout the first iteration of the series—is officially on board for Heroes Reborn.
We’re told Grunberg will have a guest star arc on the new series, which airs Thursday nights this fall on NBC.

Urgh, why are they picking the worst characters to return? I know it's rhetorical since they can't get the big ones like Ali, Milo, Hayden and Zachary but I would rather stick with Noah and the Haitian then. Hiro and Matt are not necessary at all imo.
ReplyDeleteParkman! I'm glad he's returning. I love his character and his power is great!
ReplyDeletePerfect! He's one of the ones that I wanted to return.
ReplyDeleteI never cared about him in the first place. It's like they're picking up the leftover characters when their first choices didn't agree to return,no offense!
ReplyDeleteHmm, Matt wasn't one of my favorite characters. I want Tracy, Peter, Angela and Claire.
ReplyDeleteAnd I want the damn promo, already! Waiting for it is plain annoying right now. Hoping it leaks like the SQ promo.
Yep, that's exactly how I feel. They made a list of all the characters they would like to return, and when they all rejected (excpet HRG), then they went with plan B.
ReplyDeleteI'm finding hard to get excited when none of my favorites, besides HRG, are coming back... Sure is cool we're getting Parkmand back, but I'd rather have Peter or Claire, even if it's only for an arc...
ReplyDeleteMatt, seriously? After seeing the first season of Heroes I'm disappointed that Claire is not going to be on the show, but I thought "hey, there are plenty of other rich cast options and characters! Maybe we'll see something interesting!" But they had to go with Matt?
ReplyDeleteAt least Hiro is going to be fun to watch, but Matt can be incredibly bland. I rather have some other characters back
ReplyDeleteGreat news !!!
ReplyDeleteMatt is a great character.
I hope 20 year old Noah Gray-Cabey reprises his role as Micah Sanders
I haven't seen Heroes yet, but I usually do enjoy Greg Grunberg. But after reading through these comments, I think I am more interested in his 3-year Star Wars role. Oh well, at least maybe there will be some SLUSHO screen time!?!
ReplyDeleteIKR? He was always so bland... I'm rewatching season 1 as we speak, the only one I bought, and at this moment I'm not sure there is Heroes without Milo and Hayden...
ReplyDeleteMost annoying character from Heroes, for me personally
ReplyDeleteIt would be really weird going into Heroes without Milo since he was essentially the main character, but I could give it a pass. Hayde, however, was a character that truly clicked with me and I think she could carry the show. Without them I only have Masi Oka's Hiro, who I honestly really like, but I don't think he's strong enough to carry the show, he is better served on supporting roles.
ReplyDeleteWell, we do have Noah and he's pretty interesting. But Matt is one of the most "meh" characters they could bring in. There were plenty of others that could make up for more interesting directions.
Not really a fan of his character but why not !
ReplyDeleteIt's not an actor issue, it's the material he is stuck with. He is usually left with the most bland character arcs, and that's coming from someone who just saw season 1 (supposedly the best of the show), so it's not looking good.
ReplyDeleteThe guy does a good job with the material he is given, and it's not going to be bad to have him on the show, it's just that his character is pretty "meh" and forgetable, so while people were expecting for some other actors to step in (Hayden, Milo), we get the one who has the blandest character arc on the show. So that's why the comments are mostly negative
Agreed. I want to see the promo that everyone keeps talking about.
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer Matt but I really was annoyed with Hiro.
ReplyDeleteBtw, have you caught up then? I thought you had yet to watch the series. Or am I confusing you with someone else?
From what I heard, some was referred to as Micah in the promo and it was a new actor, so they either recast Micah, or their is more of time jump then the amount of years the show was off the air.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Parkman returned to sell a procedural element to the international markets. I assume he's still going to be a detective.
ReplyDeleteProduction on Nashville has been over for a while, surely if Hayden wanted to return, she could. Maybe she does return and they are keeping it a surprise since apparently Claire is supposed to be dead per the promo
ReplyDeleteYou have that promo handy ?
ReplyDeleteI saw one of the reporters who watched the promos during the upfronts mention it on twitter.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless,if i don't like the pilot,i'm out instantly.I pretty upset neither Milo nor Hayden joined this one :-(
ReplyDeleteI'm starting season 2 (which is off to a rocky start), and I plan to continue until it gets to an unbearable point (but who knows? I may sit through the whole thing)
ReplyDeleteAs for Hiro, ever since the episode "Six Months Ago" he just grew in me and he has steadily been one of my favorites, though he is better off as supportinh rather than carry the narrative, but I like him a lot
I think it is better that we wait for you to finish the whole thing to comment then :P Season 1 Hiro was merely passable to me, he hadn't actually gotten to the point of me really being annoyed and angry with him taking up room on the screen. But it got pretty bad in Season 2 already!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, how did you find Season 1? I think it is such an amazing season
Do you know where can I find this promo?
ReplyDeleteI think it was a pretty great freshman season, but it had a couple of issues:
ReplyDelete1) There were plenty of times it was predictable, I knew what was going to happen most of the times, but that made me appreciate the unexpected twist all the more, yet it still felt like they could have worked it out a bit better.
2) There were characters I simply couldn't stand watching: I hated Nathan more than I hated Sylar! It was something I could just not believe, there's only been few times I have felt so strongly negative about a character such as Nathan. And while sometimes I simply wished Sylar would disappear and be over with him, Nathan is the one I just wanted to forget he ever existed.
But aside from that, the first season was fairly great, I was amazed by how the writing team managed to connect all the storylines and it was pretty engaging and fun to see everything come together. There were plenty of characters that I connected with (Claire, Hiro and Ando whose dynamic together I loved, Noah, Peter, among others), and I honestly felt I was watching something unique, so I appreciated it.
I think my expectations were far too high coming into the first season and they fell short, but as a whole I regret nothing, it was a pretty good season altogether... which makes me a bit sad that I know the quality will take a deep dive from here onwards, but I'm still interested on see what happens.
It better be like that, because killing off Claire would be soo weird... I mean, you'd have to take her brain out in order to do so, right? (I'm guessing)
ReplyDeleteWhen they first announced this I was sure Milo was coming back, he didn't have anything new coming, so I figured it was a done deal. Not so much with Hayden because of Nashville, but I figured she's at least make guest appearance or two... It was such a dissapointment when they announced none of them where coming back...
ReplyDeleteNoah Bennet is the only reason I'm going to give the pilot a chance, but I'm not sure he's going to be enough to keep me coming, no matter how much I like him. I mean, his driving force was Claire, if she's dead then what is he fighting for really? why isn't he away, with the family he still has, trying to have a life with them? IDK... I just can't see his motivation in all this. I just really hope he's not trying to avenge Claire.
Well, she was killed once, she was dead until the m.e. removed the branch, so I guess that could work again.
ReplyDeleteI actually think that on this very particular topic that aspect gets better in later seasons. He has more to do and his character gets more developed. But he still remains one of the most forgettable ones compared to the likes of Hayden and Milo.
ReplyDeleteSomeone commented here on the site that it was the same actor after all. I don't know if it is true.
ReplyDeleteThat's my feeling too
ReplyDeleteHasn't been released for the public yet.
ReplyDeleteBut like several people commented, wouldn't someone (Jack most likely) find her body and remove whatever has been lodged in her brain?
ReplyDeleteI like your theory, as a matter of fact I'm sticking with it until we know different :-) I'm just saying that she's been killed before, so it could happen.
ReplyDeleteEven though I haven't seen Heroes yet (planning on it over the summer--and yes I have been warned about season 2 in particular! :D), I know this is a miniseries with only 13 episodes, so I kind of thought the idea was to take Heroes concepts and juxtapose them into it's own new story....
ReplyDeleteBut at the same time I see the dilemma, because it might have been better to bring one or two iconic characters back just to launch into the new era with primarily new characters, but it does seem like they're trying harder to connect it back to former series with all of this second or third-hand character casting. And unless those characters are suddenly going to be at forefront, the way they weren't in Heroes, then it does seem more like an unnecessary gimmick.
IMO they should have gotten some of the lesser developed characters like Todd Stashwick as Eli or ressurect Kristen Bells and David Anders characters. They were fun to watch
ReplyDeleteIf I were you I would skip season 2 altogether, there's nothing to see there. I watched up to season 3, so I'm going to binge watch season 4 once I'm done rewatching season 1.
ReplyDeleteI get what they were trying to do bringing back only HRG, but for the original fanbase that's not enough, and when they realized that, they started trying to bring in some of the more secondary characters. Truth is they should've built this on the shoulders of one of main characters: Peter, Claire, Sylar or Hiro, preferebly Peter or Claire. That way it would've received a much warmer welcome, imo. I will watch the first episode or two, and I really hope Babar is right about Claire, but I'm not keeping my hopes up.
Id prefer no old characters return really, though I can understand them bringing back HRG.
ReplyDeleteI just really didn't like Matt. The character should have ended his tenure when he and wife rekindled themselves early on or when he found out he had a child, or even when the speedster died. But it really felt they didn't know what to do with him aside from making him all-powerful...
ReplyDeleteId honestly would prefer they abandon all former characters to have has little connection to previous stories as possible. Im not to fond of the characters they brought back anyway, except HRG. Hopefully, they are not important characters anymore though.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I love all of the original characters that have been announced, including Matt! Those of you complaining about them 'not bringing back' characters like Peter, Sylar, Tracy - it's not the fault of those making the show. Quinto was asked but turned it down, Milo made it clear he doesn't want to return and Ali said she's far too busy.
ReplyDeleteMost importantly, remember that this will focus heavily on the new characters. Of the 4 returning, only HRG looks to be regular - the rest are guest arcs. It is the new characters we'll spend every week with, so much of the show's success will be down to how successful they are.
Anyway, I'm so excited for this. Can't wait to go back into the Heroes universe, see the new characters, new stories, and for HRG, the Haitian, Hiro and Parkman to play their part!
That´s great! I liked him. I hope they wrap up loose ends.
ReplyDeleteWow Matt is coming back. Ya know, out of all the original characters coming back, i wasn't thinking of him coming back at all. Hmm. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteI said that to him weeks back actually, and it would be true. Someone would remove it, thus she would live, so that's not it. I also told Babar, that w/e it is that killed her would have to be permanent, (possibly with her somehow turning human to make it so) it would be a permanent death, otherwise they wouldn't have put it in the promo so easily. W/e happened to Claire was huge, can't wait to see what it is.
ReplyDeleteUsually how it goes. Whaddaya gonna do? Shrugs.
ReplyDelete:-( I'm sorry to hear that! Very boring character!
ReplyDeleteI liked Tracy but i wouldn't compare Ali to the Big Three: Milo, Hayden and Zachary
ReplyDeleteI love Greg Grunberg but Matt was such a boring character.
ReplyDeleteI suppose you are right, I was probably letting my personal preference bias me here. But I would say that Ali Larter was as much of a big name for the show back then as those 3. However, if we are talking about characters that had ore focus and all, Masi Oka would have to go up there with the other 3, even though I really don't care for the Hiro character.
ReplyDeleteIm glad to see we got more of the originals returnin
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised. He's fiercely loyal to his shows...
ReplyDeleteAt this point, any original would be great to see again. For me, I just don't want to see Hayden. She complained and threatened to quit if she didn't have more air time, well she got it and ruined the show.
