McDreamy 2.0?
In the wake of Patrick Dempsey’s surprise departure from Grey’s Anatomy, ABC’s still-durable medical soap is looking to add a major new male presence in Season 12, TVLine has learned exclusively.
According to fresh casting intel, Shonda Rhimes & Co. are searching for a “name” actor in his late 30s to late 40s to portray the series-regular role of a doctor. Among the requirements of said performer: He must be good-looking, charismatic and believable as a surgeon.
Rhimes acknowledged back in April that “the entire Grey’s Anatomy family” is entering “uncharted territory as we head into this new” post-Derek era, adding that, “The possibilities for what may come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say: the carousel never stops turning.”

The show biggest flaw is having too much characters, get rid of Steph, Jo, and 1 more character. Focus on the core group
ReplyDeleteI don't like the way they worded the article "McDreamy 2.0" :( I also don't want a new love interest or anything for Meredith please. (I know they did the time jump but it still feels recent.)
ReplyDeleteR.I.P. Derek :( Every character that dies on this show is just too sad.
Let's see how long this one lives.
ReplyDeleteToo bad Dave Annable is in Heartbreaker. He would be perfect in Grey's!
ReplyDeleteThose were 100% my thoughts when I read this!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling they might go with a big name for ratings sake
ReplyDeleteNo comment.
ReplyDeleteand he already played a doctor on red band society this past season so he would be believable in Grey's too. i wonder what kind of doctor they're looking to add also.
ReplyDeleteI would go with Eric Winter, Dave in all his grace is a bit to bland to stand off the GA cast.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, but I just don't know who they would get. Everyone I can think of already has a show.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see life imitating art ( Ellen's husband is African American ) with Sam ( Taye Diggs ) Bennett taking a job at Grey Sloan Memorial after his marriage to Naomi fails again. After working side by side and becoming friends ... Meredith & Sam fall in love ... and ... become Saredith / Seredith.
ReplyDeleteI do like Eric Winter.
ReplyDeleteWho could it be can't really think of anyone that could fit those requirements.
ReplyDeleteMatt Davis is a series regular in TVD.
ReplyDeleteNo words.Urgh!
ReplyDeleteI know ... but ... they could kill him off .... also we don't know if he has signed on for season seven yet.
ReplyDeleteJulie has confirmed all of them have signed.Except Paul & Ian,every other cast will appear for 17 episodes.
ReplyDeleteThen kill him off .... if I didn't love the character of Elijah so much on The Originals I'd say kill him off and bring Daniel Gillies over. to Grey's.
ReplyDeletewhat about ioan guffurd. he's incredible actor and he has a very loyal following. he would be great a british doctor
ReplyDeleteWHAT? Screw GA.Without Elijah, there is no TO.No one from CW bandwagon is going to Greys-Mark my word.
ReplyDeleteThat's who I'm rooting for too.
ReplyDelete"McDreamy 2.0?"
ReplyDeleteDON'T!!!
Unlikely, especially if Forever gets revived.
ReplyDeleteI know ... I KNOW ... but I can wish better ( 3 times the money / acclaim / respect ) for my favorite CW actors ... as well as all the guys I picked would work well as Meredith's new love interest in the future.
ReplyDeletewutttttttttt? Bitch betetr dont do that. A t thsi point i preffer Mer alone.
ReplyDelete"He must be good-looking, charismatic," looks to me that's exactly who they're hiring.
ReplyDeleteI just hope Shonda doesn't turn this new guy into a love interest for Meredith. It's frustrating when you see a widow find love again only a year or so after their husbands die. It would be an insult to everything that Meredith and Derek had. Meredith should remain single.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is,i didn't want any type of romantic SL for Meredith for at least the 1st half of next season but here we are. So,anyone taking place of Derek would be easier to hate for me if the actor is not among my fav CW actors,if you know what i mean!
ReplyDeleteBut will it be revived? No news means bad news.
ReplyDeleteNoah Wyle maybe?
ReplyDeleteBack when Patrick left, I wrote that ABC would try to replace him and sure enough, as predicted, they are doing just that. However, it's likely going to be an epic disaster. The last thing Grey's Anatomy will be able to do is find a replacement for McDreamy. They should just leave the character and focus on others.
ReplyDeleteMore of the issue is going to be finding a "name" actor that is willing to be constantly in Patrick's shadow (good luck not being asked about him in every single interview this actor does). If they have any name value at all or any leverage, he wouldn't want to deal with all of the baggage. Instead, they would start fresh with a new project or one that wouldn't drag the person down.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that he gets attached to Chicago Med for pure nostalgic reasons.
ReplyDeleteMcDreamy 2.0? Don't you even, TVLine.
ReplyDeleteThe last thing this show needs are more new characters. The only way I can bring myself to be excited by this news is if he is gay or at least bi. Considering how present male gay characters are on the two other TGIT shows, I'm kind of surprised Grey's Anatomy never had a gay male character.
ReplyDeleteImagining Rob Lowe showing up and the fun begins. Personally think Rhimes shot herself in the foot letting Dempsey out of his contract. Unless she could get Anthony Edwards or Eriq La Salle that credible as doctor remark is unlikely. I would kill if they could pull off Hugh Laurie.
ReplyDeleteNo. Bad Idea.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like they're looking for a new male lead. And the last thing I want is heavy focus on a new character. They need to focus on the characters they already have.
Screw McDreamy 2.0. Give me Kepner 2.0. Sarah Drew needs more to do this year. As do many other regulars.
As much as I'm not a fan of this, they could always try for Noah Wyle, since Falling Skies is over.
ReplyDeleteBring back Dr Carter!!
McDreamy 2.0? Are you kidding me??
ReplyDeleteOh no she better don't!
ReplyDeletehmmm.. and Meredith will fall in love of him? haha
ReplyDeleteThey don't need this... They have a pretty big cast already... Stephanie's new interns would be more than enough, and they would only have to use them as recurring characters anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnd honestly? If he is there as Mer's new love interest, frankly I'd prefer for her to be looking outside the hospital...
Derek's body not even cold yet omg
ReplyDeleteim rooting for it to get revived but if it doesnt then by all means he should come to grey's
ReplyDeleteAnd he was sooooo cute as Doctor Carter.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe they will pair someone up with Meredith so soon anyway. Burke was waaaaay smaller thing than Derek ever was and Shonda had Christina "grieving" alone for an entire year before Owen was introduced in Season 5. I will choose to believe they won't go there until I see it.
ReplyDeleteFigured this would happen. Pres of ABC said that they wanted Grey's to go on for years to come.....Dear lord I hope not.
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda hoping this whole plan of Rhimes' is going to tank b/c that's what she deserves. It's freaking rediculous that the hospital has lost more doctors than patients. It's like by killing off their regulars they're trying to make up for their bad writing. Every idiot can kill off characters; character development, interesting storylines....those are the things people like to see and bringing someone new in instead of working with the cast won't help the matter bc by s13 that new character is going to be just as useless and uninterssting as the rest of them.
ReplyDeleteSimon Baker just came on the market, he's seasoned, gentle and witty. Perfect compliment to what Meredith needs right now and he's the same age as Ellen
ReplyDeleteUgh -___-'
