Thanks to Mr. Edmodo for the heads up.
It won’t be an upfront if we don’t get a last-minute surprise. We may having one in the making at Fox, with drama Lucifer coming from behind en route to a potential series order. That underlines the fact that you can never bet against Len Wiseman. He took a script that had only been getting lukewarm reception at Fox 2 years ago, Sleepy Hollow, and directed it into a slam-dunk pilot. The route was even more twisted for the Warner Bros. TV-produced Lucifer, written by Tom Kapinos and executive produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Just like the studio scored a last-minute upset a few years ago when Alcatraz, also from an A-list producer, JJ Abrams, landed a surprise 11-th hour pickup, WBTV may have done it again if buzz is any indication. That is despite talk that Kapinos had not been very involved in the pilot — I hear the project is looking for a new showrunner.

YES!
ReplyDeleteDidn't see this coming.
ReplyDeleteWow that must have been written in a hurry! So many errors!
ReplyDeleteAs I wrote in the other pilot pickup topic, it's classic studio politics. If Studio City was produced by FOX, it would be picked up. It happens everywhere, but it sends a message that FOX is not really open to outside pilots.
ReplyDeleteAs for Studio City, I'm sure WB is pitching is elsewhere right now.
Why would FOX pass on Studio City. It sounds like the perfect companion for Empire. But I guess. FOX want to give a new show they own the Empire lead-in.
ReplyDeleteWow. Hell yeah. This news kinda makes up for the sad news about TFtD.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the issue is that they wanted it to be a to good fit for Empire and lost itself within,
ReplyDeleteBut who knows. We'll have to wait and see, this is still buzz and buzz is there to be wrong.
Huh surprised lucifer still has a shot. And noooooo I wanted studio city to get picked up :(.
ReplyDeleteExactly how bad was Studio city?LOL!
ReplyDeleteEric McCormack would be the only reason for me to watch a show on Fox.
ReplyDeleteIt seemed good, had positive buzz! This is a really sudden change of events.
ReplyDeleteFOX might have decided that they don't want to give a show they don't even own their best lead-in in years.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense.I'm quite surprised Lucifer is nearing a pickup though.
ReplyDeleteSo am I...
ReplyDeleteLucifer sounds more interesting than Frankenstein or Rosewood. Shame about Studio City.
ReplyDeleteBecause FOX doesn't own it. Studio City is perfect for Empire. If they passed, I really think that FOX let the competition have a huge asset.
ReplyDelete"Lucifer's unlikely rise..."
ReplyDeleteHa!
I agree. It seems like the most interesting pilot from FOX this year (Not counting Scream Queens)
ReplyDeleteOh,the irony!
ReplyDeleteSince Constantine hasn't been doing well on NBC I don't see why FOX is so sure about Lucifer
ReplyDeleteUgh! Studio City would be good pair for Empire and wanted to see Daughtry acting!
ReplyDeleteApologies in advance but this is the first thing I thought of:

Makes sense, they don't want to be like say CBS who are entirely reliant on Warner Bros for their sitcoms pretty much.
ReplyDeleteSleepy Hollow Season 1 was a good example of there being an audience there for that kind of show.
ReplyDeleteWTF is this?!?Hahaha!!
ReplyDeleteBecause the shows are completely different? That might have something to do with it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I'm happy or terrified about Lucifer. Probably both.
ReplyDeleteI'm really torn on Lucifer. I love the IP, the cast is good and the showrunner seems like a perfect guy for the job. On the other hand what little we've heard about the pilot seems terrible. So I'm conflicted.
Well..for one thing..Lucifer's lead character is a lot more likable one :D
ReplyDeleteSad for Studio City but i'm happy for Lucifer (never thought i'd say that lol)
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe that South Park movie is 16 years old already. After all this time it's still funny that one of the songs in the film was nominated for an Oscar.
ReplyDeleteBeauty per beauty. You should see his love interest in the film.
ReplyDeleteAnd season 2 proved that you could lose them quickly
ReplyDeletesame universe, similar threats
ReplyDeleteHave you read up on the pilot? They deviated quite a bit. This is a procedural where Lucifer helps the LAPD punish criminals.
ReplyDeletedo you mean to tell me that you don't know south park? ^^
ReplyDeleteI blame the writing for that, but yes you're right. Season 1 and 2 are nothing alike, they got rid of everything that made Season 1 good lol
ReplyDeleteReading that summary was like having deja vu. Reading that summary was like having deja vu....
ReplyDeleteMoving on.
Always glad to see something "different" than cop or medical dramas, but FOX has not done Sci-Fi right in a long time... Wait and see, but I do have interest.
wait....WHAT?! Damnit
ReplyDeleteI see that the news stopped coming again .. hopefully a lot of news coming in a few minutes
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. Originally Lucifer was supposed to own a piano bar called Lux but they changed the concept and now he assists the police on cases. This will have no resemblance to Constantine and probably have little resemblance to the comics either.
ReplyDeleteI think Fox will announce what they're doing with The Following in the next 24hrs.
ReplyDeleteHeard of it but never watched it.I'm from India and only started watching English TV shows from 2010 only.
ReplyDeleteI really hope they pick up Lucifer.
ReplyDeleteOr... Fox could give pick up every pilot and then cancel the ones they don't like before production starts. #Sarcasm
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to see Lucifer, hopefully it'll air.
Len Wiseman is a great visual director so I'm hoping this show is as visually appealing as Sleepy Hollow is.
ReplyDeleteSo...what'll go with EMPIRE?
ReplyDeleteI would love for NBC to snatch it up and air it on Mondays after the Voice.
ReplyDeleteProbably Autopsy aka Rosewood. They seem to think it will be compatible just because the lead actor is black.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, i guess.
ReplyDeleteI am holding out hope that there is some negotiations drama and that Studio City will still pull through and get ordered to pair with Empire.
ReplyDeleteThere's also that Fox would be smarter to not pick it up and diversify their genres a bit. Another music-driven show on after Empire diminishes the power of Empire and doesn't use their big hit as a lead-in in a way that allows them to build a following for another show. Put Rosewood on after Empire and it'll get big exposure, generating them a potential hit that is a medical procedural drama. That's like a network's bread and butter. They can build a following for that and then move it around wherever they need it on the schedule in the future, pairing it with other new shows along the way. But put Studio City on after Empire and now you've just made two musical shows. It's a good night but it's not easily separable. You don't need two musical soaps but you do need one musical soap megahit and a decent procedural.
ReplyDeleteFox would take more risks with Lucifer than NBC took with Constantine. Part of the issue is that NBC made a tv series out of a comic character who should never have been on network tv. Constantine made on cable would be a smash. They won't even let the character smoke on NBC. It's a stripped down, dehydrated version of the original so the core audience who would normally be all over this is skipping it. Fox is better with riskier content-- probably the most progressive of the networks. They could make Lucifer happen and they need something to stick with Gotham, which is hanging out all by its lonely self as Fox's lone superhero-driven show. If it's decently made, Lucifer would probably eclipse Gotham pretty quickly, as it has less of a hokey concept. Either way, the two shows paired together would make a night of it and that's better than the piece-y collection of random stuff they've got at the moment.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll go for the shallow comment: he's hotter than hell.
ReplyDeleteYou got a sugar-induced bad unintentional pun there as a bonus. :)
Hopefully killing it so Kevin Bacon can go back to actually good stuff.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's quite that crass. They need to launch a procedural and Empire is their only real way of doing that at the moment.
ReplyDeleteNot as bad as not knowing of The Simpsons but yeah still bad.
ReplyDeleteBut...Lucifer sounded like the absolute worst comic book adaption in TV history. It'll be a complete trainwreck.
ReplyDeleteThough the Preacher pilot is not look too hot either.
Mac, Lucifer will be an epic trainwreck. Quite possibly the worst comic book adaption in TV history and a complete bastardization of the source material..
ReplyDeleteLucifer solving crimes for the LAPAD together with a singe mom cop.......*facepalm*
While also being partnered with a single mom cop.
ReplyDeleteSo there will be Lucifer but not another season of Constantine? Or am I wrong?
ReplyDeleteAfter all the negative traction Lucifer had been getting I am quite surprised by this... Curious to see how it plays out in the end.
ReplyDeleteI quite liked the sound of Lucifer, hoping it gets picked up
