Thanks to Jovan and Mr. Edmodo for the heads up.
A few hours ago, word was that FOX had passed on Studio City.
This has been one of the biggest shockers so far this upfront season — the generally well received Fox drama pilot Studio City coming short at the end. Instead, the little talked about Lucifer adaptation had a meteoric last-minute rise and appears headed to the Fox schedule, to be joined by already picked up medical drama Rosewood and pending Minority Report and Frankenstein. While Fox is yet to make the final calls on its drama pilots, Studio City star Eric McCormack confirmed its demise at Fox on Twitter. “So wanted to share good news. But no: Fox is NOT picking up #StudioCity,” he wrote. “America, you’d have LOVED this f**king show.
Also not going forward at Fox are comedy pilots Fantasy Life, 48 Hours ‘Til Monday, Detour and The Perfect Stanleys.

That may no longer be the case:
This may be the most twisty story this upfront. After looking like a lock for weeks, Fox’s drugs-and-music drama pilot Studio City started to fade fast a couple of days ago when dark horse Lucifer began its rapid rise. Things were not looking good for Studio City, which was facing the possibility of being the only Fox drama pilot this season not to get a series order. Fox had not made all of its its drama calls yet last night when Studio City star Eric McCormack announced on Twitter that Fox was not picking up the show, with creator Krista Vernoff indicating that the pilot would be shopped elsewhere.
That may turn out to be one big misunderstanding, which won’t be surprising given the craziness and confusion in the final days before the upfronts when the fate of dozens of pilots and series are decided, with news and speculation sometime getting mixed up. While Studio City indeed will not be picked up heading into Fox’s upfront presentation on Monday and won’t be announced as part of the network’s 2015-16 schedule, I hear the project won’t be released and may be revisited after the upfronts, possibly for midseason.

NBC just got FOX-blocked over Studio City!
ReplyDeleteAnd the plot thickens......
ReplyDeleteI know at least one person who is going to be editing/deleting his tweets... cough *Eric McCormack* cough.

ReplyDeleteLooks like Fox don't want anyone to have the Studio City series, very cheeky! Warner are not going to be impressed with this.
ReplyDeleteSo NBC was bidding on Studio City. FOX needs to make a quick call on Studio City, or else they are going to lose it.
ReplyDeleteNBC wanted to buy it?
ReplyDeleteIt's a keep away move, hoping to drive the bidding war down when they let it go. Right now, everyone wants Studio City, it's hot.
ReplyDeleteIf rumors are correct, yes. And package it with their other not renewed WB shows Undateable, The Mysteries Of Laura, and Constantine. That's why Undateable hasn't been renewed yet.
ReplyDeleteWell, Desperate Housewives actresses have definitly no luck on Fox !
ReplyDeleteFelicity Huffman two years ago, Marcia Cross last year and now Vanessa Williams...
Too bad for them.
Can you tell me from which site is it?
ReplyDeleteSocial media. It started last night over twitter, and it spread.
ReplyDelete... there's not, that rumor was never reported in any trade, etc. but is pure fan speculation.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the rest of the renewals/cancellations later today.
ReplyDeleteAgain, fan speculation.
ReplyDeleteNot from fan sources. It wasn't Constantine fan #45. It was highlighted by contributors of Vulture, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter. Twitter spreads faster than print articles.
ReplyDeleteHappy its not dead, but sad for NBC if the rumors are true because it would be a great pairing with The Voice.
ReplyDeletePlease link or write one "contributor" because I have not seen any.
ReplyDeleteCan't provide links (against the forum rules). Just search twitter WB package. It's there. And you referenced it.
ReplyDeleteI did, it's not there. Infact, the first mention is your post on the SpoilerTV ratings thread. nice try, though.
ReplyDeleteOK, it's not there, despite you referencing it. Cool. Whatever floats your boat. FOX didn't act quickly in holding it for "rumors". The business doesn't hold up. But if that's your take, cool. No use arguing over it as FOX is keeping it from NBC for any reason that you want to believe.
ReplyDeleteRather see the show go to cable. TNT and USA both could use a new hit.
ReplyDeleteAgain, no link was provided. Anytime you decide to prove to claim, feel free to edit it in.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly it. Studio City likely would have killed after The Voice. And FOX came to that realization. You don't want to give a competitor an asset to their schedule.
ReplyDeleteThe "claim" is the deadline article. Why else would they hold it less than 12 hours after the rejected it? Again, I think that you are missing the context completely because you don't want to believe the decision making behind keeping the hold on it. This wasn't a random decision, it's a chain of events.
ReplyDeleteNBC: Yes, we're going to get it. Fox: Realizes that NBC really needs it. No so fast. NBC: Sh*t
ReplyDeleteGlad it's not dead
ReplyDeleteThere will be blood on the dance floor!!!
ReplyDeleteMORTAL KOMBAT BITCHES!!!!
Again, you are missing the point. I am saying to reference one article where WB was going to package Undateable, MOL, Constantine, and Studio City, as you claim. You haven't provided one because it doesn't exist. The rest is needless bait arguing.
ReplyDeleteLOL! The best fighting game series.
ReplyDeletePity about Fantasy Life. I wanted to see Vanessa Williams in a comedy.
ReplyDeleteAnd as I posted before, links aren't allowed. Search around twitter. The package exists and it was the catalyst for this hold. We know Undataeble has not been renewed. We know that Constantine were in discussions right now and that Studio City was presented to NBC. All of them happened at the same time. Now FOX decided to hold Studio City, and keep it away from all competitors.
ReplyDeleteIt all adds up. To have a full recap article to state the obvious isn't needed. It's all on twitter for reference. Again, I think that you are just trying to be combative in this point. You can argue that the package didn't exist, but if it didn't FOX wouldn't take Studio City back.
And all of that is speculation and conjecture of how you are interpreting the data. As I said before, you have no concrete proof beyond how you believe the dots to be connected. Speculation is not proof. Of which you've provided none.
ReplyDeleteAgain, this is going no where. Your opinion is I don't read the article I want to read so the package doesn't exist. You want to believe that it doesn't exist, so it must not.
ReplyDeleteWhat is worse is Fantasy Life was amazing. It would have worked on FOX, especially during football season.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I wouldn't be surprised if FOX searched twitter, found out that industry sources were saying FOX handed NBC the next Empire and they ran to the phone to hold it up.
ReplyDeleteOf course links are allowed :) As long as they are relevant and not spam etc.
ReplyDeleteLMAO.
ReplyDeleteNBC just ordered another Dick Wolf show. This time a reality show called You The Jury.
ReplyDeleteNBC has become the Dick Wolf network. If Law and Order revival goes through, that's 6 shows.
NBC was one at one point during the L&O franchise' height, with a movie, a UK remake, multiple crossover and reality spin-off to boot. :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Fun times. And we're gone full circle.
ReplyDeleteAccording to SeasonZero Fantasy Life could be reworked for the next season.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see it reworked. It has a lot of potential.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Fox really wants a show they own in the post-Empire slot. But I think this show is the best companion for Empire.
ReplyDeletehmm there is still hope!
ReplyDeleteEspecially when Chris Daughtry, an American Idol alum is involved in the project.
ReplyDeleteI wish ABC would do something like this with The Kingmakers..
ReplyDeleteI was curious about Studio City, but not very interested. And I'm gatherting
ReplyDeleteFrom the rest just a bit bummed for 48 hours, but still not devastated in any shape or form.
